Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a centrifugal pump, or turbo pump, in particular for household appliances, with pumping chamber in which the liquid crossing it is heated.
  • a liquid typically water
  • forced circulation and heated for the operations for which they are designed.
  • centrifugal pump which pumping chamber accommodates a bladed impeller, which impresses a centrifugal push to the water.
  • a centrifugal pump having a bladed impeller is disclosed in DE-A-102007017271 .
  • the suction of the water in centrifugal pumps takes place in axial direction, while the delivery is in radial or tangential direction.
  • the water crosses an axial suction conduit thus reaching the pumping chamber, where it acquires kinetic energy and pressure energy, to then cross a delivery conduit with axis which is substantially orthogonal to the suction conduit and directed tangentially to the perimeter of the pumping chamber.
  • Centrifugal pumps for household appliances operate together with a heating element, such as for example, a heating resistor.
  • the heating element is generally at the upper part of the pumping chamber, that is approximately at the axial elevation of the outlet of the suction conduit.
  • the main disadvantage associated with traditional centrifugal pumps relates to heating the liquid circulating inside the pumping chamber, and in particular relates to the heat exchange that takes place between the heating element and the liquid. Indeed, while the liquid which is close to the heating element is effectively heated, the efficiency of the heat exchange decreases with the distance of the liquid from the heating element.
  • a further disadvantage of traditional centrifugal pumps relates to the establishment of a turbulent flow inside the pumping chamber, with the relative formation of flow vortexes, which negatively affects the efficiency of the centrifugal pump, furthermore generating undesired vibrations and deteriorating the overall performance of the household appliance. For this reason, snail-shell shaped pumping chambers have been proposed.
  • centrifugal pumps for household appliances are not known in which the efficiency of the heat exchange is optimized between the heating element and the liquid circulating inside the pumping chamber and in which good circulation of the fluid is promoted.
  • the main object of the present invention is to provide a centrifugal pump for household appliances, in which the heat exchange is optimized between the water circulating in the centrifugal pump and the heating element adapted to heat the liquid which is typically the water.
  • a further object of the present invention is to provide a centrifugal pump in which there is increased circulation of the water inside the pumping chamber.
  • centrifugal pump comprising:
  • the heat exchange between the heating element and the liquid crossing the centrifugal pump according to the invention is indeed significantly optimized due to the presence of the helical fins.
  • the centrifugal pump 1 comprises a substantially cylindrical pumping chamber 20, or flow channel, delimited by a substantially cylindrical tubular body 2. Inside the pumping chamber 20 there is a bladed impeller 3 defining an axis Y, which is keyed onto a rotating shaft arranged in a relative housing. Axis Y passes through the middle of the tubular body 2, and is parallel to the cylindrical lateral wall. On the cylindrical lateral wall of the pumping chamber 20, and therefore of the tubular body 2 delimiting it, there is an opening from which a delivery conduit 5 branches off of the fluid to be pumped, which is typically water. The axis of the delivery conduit 5 is approximately orthogonal with respect to axis Y and parallel to the tangent at the outer perimeter of the pumping chamber 20 at the point in which the delivery conduit 5 branches off.
  • a suction conduit 4,or inlet conduit of the fluid having a first stretch coaxial to the longitudinal axis Y, to then bend by approximately 90° thus forming a second stretch.
  • the suction conduit 4 may be straight, or may not be present.
  • the diameter of the suction conduit 4 is less than the diameter of the pumping chamber 2.
  • the tubular body 2 has a lower closing element or closing disk, not shown, which is fixed to a lower end 8 of the tubular body 2.
  • the term height or the term elevation is intended as the distance along the longitudinal axis Y, taking as reference the lower end 8 of the tubular body 2.
  • the tubular body 2 is provided with an upper closing element, or cover 7, provided with a central opening.
  • the peripheral edge of cover 7 is restrained to the upper peripheral edge of the tubular body 2, and the central opening of the cover 7 is restrained about the lower end of the suction conduit 4, which is the end where there is the opening from which the fluid leaves the suction conduit 4 to be emitted into the pumping chamber 20.
  • the lower closing element and cover 7 provide an airtight closure of the pumping chamber 20.
  • Cover 7 is provided with an annular groove 9, that is a substantially circular groove, if seen in plan view, which extends deep toward direction parallel to axis Y and toward the pumping chamber 20.
  • the extension of the pumping chamber 20 along axis Y is constant at the annular groove 9.
  • a heating element preferably a heating resistor, of substantially annular shape is accommodated inside the annular groove 9 of cover 7.
  • Cover 7 is preferably made of material with adequate heat conductivity for such a function, for example a metallic material.
  • Impeller 3 is accommodated between an upper covering 10 and a lower covering 11, while laterally it faces directly into the pumping chamber 20, so that there is, between the upper covering 10 and the lower covering 11, a section from which the liquid is ejected by the blades of impeller 3.
  • the upper covering 10 has a central opening, or inlet section, coaxial to axis Y, which lets in the liquid originating from the suction conduit 4; the liquid is then pushed by impeller 3 in direction transversal to axis Y.
  • the outlet of the suction conduit 4 can be partly inside the inlet section of the upper covering 10, or facing the latter without overlapping.
  • the inner surface of the cylindrical wall of the tubular body 2 is provided with two helical profile fins 6a, 6b, which extend radially in transversal direction with respect to the lateral wall of the pumping chamber 20.
  • the fins 6a, 6b extend radially starting from the inner surface of the cylindrical lateral wall, toward impeller 3.
  • the fins 6a, 6b can be arranged at a height along axis Y equal to approximately half of the height of the pumping chamber 20, at the annular groove 9.
  • the radial extension, that is along a direction substantially orthogonal to axis Y, of the fins 6a, 6b can be greater than or equal to the radial extension of the annular groove 9.
  • each fin 6a, 6b increases constantly and progressively in clockwise direction, so that each fin 6a, 6b has a lower end 21, 21', having a minimum elevation along axis Y, and an upper end 22, 22' having a maximum elevation along axis Y.
  • the lower ends 21, 21' are distal from cover 7 and the upper ends 22, 22' are proximal to cover 7.
  • the two fins 6a, 6b are spaced from each other by a predetermined angular distance with respect to the longitudinal axis Y.
  • the fins 6a, 6b are arranged so that the minimum elevation of the first fin 6a corresponds to approximately the minimum elevation of the second fin 6b, and so that the maximum elevation of the first fin 6a corresponds to the maximum elevation of the second fin 6b.
  • each fin is arranged approximately at the peripheral edge of the lower covering 11 of impeller 3.
  • the fins 6a, 6b are integral to the tubular body 2 and therefore to the inner lateral wall of the pumping chamber 20.
  • the fins 6a, 6b each have an inner edge 23, 23' and each inner edge is spaced radially from the peripheral edge of the lower covering 11 of impeller 3.
  • the peripheral edge of impeller 3 faces directly onto the inner edge 23, 23' of each fin 6a, 6b.
  • the presence of the fins 6a, 6b and the arrangement thereof with respect to impeller 3 is particularly advantageous. Indeed, the liquid that is pushed by impeller 3 is emitted into the pumping chamber 20 and is guided by the fins 6a, 6b. In particular, the fins 6a, 6b guide and support the liquid let into the centrifugal pump 1 so that most thereof remains in the upper portion of the pumping chamber 20 for the longest time possible.
  • the upper portion of the pumping chamber 20, which is substantially the portion above the fins 6a, 6b, is the closest to the heat source provided by the heating resistor accommodated in the annular groove 9 of cover 7 of the tubular body 2. Thereby, the heat exchange between the heating element, that is the heating resistor, and the liquid that crosses the pumping chamber 20, is significantly optimized due to the presence of the fins 6a, 6b inside the pumping chamber 20.
  • the liquid then continues the path of forced circulation by crossing the delivery conduit 5.
  • the presence of the fins 6a, 6b is furthermore advantageous because it eliminates, or at least significantly reduces, the establishment of a turbulent flow operation, with which undesired flow vortexes are associated.
  • the centrifugal pump 1 allows the heating of the liquid circulating in the pumping chamber 20 to be optimized, the volume of the pumping chamber being equal and the speed of rotation of the impeller being equal.
  • the mass of water, and therefore the flow rate, that can be processed by the centrifugal pump of the invention is equal to the mass of water that can be processed with a traditional centrifugal pump, but by using the centrifugal pump of the invention, the heating of the liquid is obtained in significantly more efficient manner. Further construction variants apparent to a field technician do not depart from the scope of the present invention.
  • the number of fins can be varied, for example using a single fin or a plurality of fins, for example three or four fins. Preferably, there are only two fins.
  • Other construction details which can be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention are, solely by way of non-limiting example, the angular distance between the fins, the radial extension of the fins, the height of the fins along axis Y, and the difference in elevation between the upper end and the lower end of each fin.
  • the inner surface of the cylindrical lateral wall of the tubular body is preferably smooth, with the exception of the protrusions which are formed by the fins.
  • the fins 6a, 6b can also be reversibly restrained to the inner surface of the lateral wall of the pumping chamber 20 so as, for example, to be replaced should they deteriorate.
  • the fins can be engaged on, and detached from the inner surface of the cylindrical wall.
  • the fins can be welded or brazed to the inner surface of the cylindrical wall.
