US2013047346 , a steam generator for a washing apparatus is disclosed in which a housing is filled with water during a given water supply time. Next, a heater is operated until the temperature of the housing surpasses a predetermined value which indicates that the water in the housing has completely been evaporated. If the operation time of the heater is shorter than a predetermined limit, this indicates an initial water amount below a normal value, due to a low pressure in the water supply line, and the water supply time for the next filling phase is increased. - The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance comprising a steam generator, of which the production and assembly costs are decreased.
- The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a control unit that enables water to be taken into the steam generator by deciding that the water level has fallen under the minimum water level if the time period the heater reaches from the cut-in temperature to the cut-off temperature is less than a time period prerecorded in its memory.
- In the following description, the expression "cut-off" and "cut-out" are used as synonyms.
- In accordance with the present invention, a channel is situated that extend from the inlet opening on the reservoir into the reservoir and towards under the predetermined minimum water level. Thus, when the steam generator generates steam, steam is not discharged from the inlet opening in any way and the generated steam is enabled to be utilized almost entirely. Furthermore, since steam is not discharged from the inlet opening, water condensation is prevented in undesired areas, for example in the water inlet line, in areas where the electronic components of the household appliance are located.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, a thermal fuse is used in order to cut off the current supplied to the heater in case of any problems. For example, in the situation wherein the temperature sensor malfunctions and the heater is supplied with continuous current, the thermal fuse blows out and the household appliance is prevented from damage.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the heater is of helical configuration wound around the reservoir. That the heater is wound around the reservoir provides a smaller contact area and water is heated faster with the same amount of power.
- The household appliance of the present invention can be a washing machine, laundry washer dryer, dishwasher or a cooking device like oven.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the steam generator is controlled by the steps of:
- Receiving water from the inlet opening,
- Cutting water intake as water is discharged from the outlet opening,
- Operating the heater,
- Operating the heater until the surface of the heater reaches the cut-off temperature
- Turning off the heater when the surface of the heater reaches the cut-off temperature,
- Operating the heater again when the temperature of the surface of the heater falls to reach the cut-in temperature,
- Repeating the last two steps for a certain time period.
- In the household appliance of the present invention, the thermal fuse is used in order to stop operation of the heater in any kind of problem. The channel, extending below the minimum water level, stays continuously in the water thanks to the control unit detecting the temperature change rate on the surface of the heater and it is not required to use a water level sensor in the reservoir. Production and assembly costs are enabled to be decreased by not using extra equipments, for example liquid level sensors, on the steam generator except the reservoir, the heater, the temperature sensor that are required for steam generation.
