Description

  • The present invention refers to a device for the separate conservation of a substance to be mixed with another substance contained in a bottle and possibly for closing said bottle.
  • Such devices are normally used for commercialising chemical products in general and pharmaceuticals in particular in which a substance - liquid, solid or powdered that in any case is soluble - must be mixed with a liquid only at or close to the time at which it is taken or used.
  • Italian patent N° 1.252.265 describes a device of this type for the separate conservation of a substance to be mixed with another substance contained in a container and for simultaneously closing said container.
  • Such a device comprises a first concave element provided on the outside with an edge portion suitable for sealably associating with the mouth of said container, closing it and defining, together with a second element contained in it, a chamber suitable for containing the substance to be mixed with the one contained in the container.
  • Said chamber opens by means of the downward sliding of the second element with respect to the first. Such sliding is generated by pressing on the top of the first concave element. The shape of the second element is such as not to allow it to completely separate from the first element and fall into the bottle below when it is pushed downwards. In particular, there are means for holding said wall in the first element when in removed position.
  • The tightness of the chamber is ensured by the conical configuration of the wall of the second element that inserts in the open bottom of the first element where there is a projection. Clearly, following the pushing from above on the top of the device, which pushes the second element downwards, the projection is passed by the wall and the chamber consequently opens.
  • Therefore, there are no elements that ensure a real seal of the chamber apart from the mechanical contact positioning between the two elements.
  • The aim of the present invention is to avoid the aforementioned drawbacks by providing a device of such a type in which the chamber remains effectively sealed until the moment at which the two substances - the one contained in the chamber itself and the one contained in the container, must be mixed.
  • An aspect of the present invention concerns a device for the separate conservation of a substance to be mixed with another substance contained in a container and for closing said container having the characteristics of the attached claim 1.
  • The characteristics and special features of the present invention will be specified in detail and highlighted by the following description, made with reference to the attached figures, which respectively illustrate:
    • figure 1 illustrates an exploded view of the various elements of the device according to the present invention;
    • figures 2a and 2b illustrate the steps of assembly of the device according to the present invention;
    • figure 3 illustrates the device associated with the mouth of a bottle during the step of fracturing the bottom of the chamber;
  • With reference to the quoted figures, the device according to the present invention comprises a plug 2, a fracturing element 3 and a membrane 4.
  • The plug 2 is generally concave and comprises a cylindrical portion 21 and an edge portion 22 preferably having an L-shaped section suitable for making a seal on the mouth 5 of a bottle 6, preferably a bottle on which the device of the invention can be mounted. The mouth of the container 6 is thus protected from possible bacterial contamination. The edge portion 22 also extends laterally to the mouth 5 of the container and is also provided on the lower part thereof with means 23, for sealing the device with respect to the mouth 5.
  • The edge portion 22 has an internal threading 23, so as to be able to screw the plug as a whole onto the bottle 6.
  • Inside such a cylindrical portion a cavity 25 is formed, also preferably cylindrical or frusto-conical, in which such a fracturing element 3 is inserted, which for such a purpose is externally shaped so as to match the cavity and is internally hollow to contain the first substance.
  • Preferably, the upper surface 24 of the substantially cylindrical portion 21 is flexible and is convex with respect to such a cavity 25.
  • The outer surface of the fracturing element 3 has strips 31 suitable for inserting in corresponding seats formed inside the cavity, so as to promote the relative movement from the top to the bottom and vice-versa between such an element 3 and the plug 2, but at the same time preventing the relative rotation between the two parts.
  • The top 32 of the fracturing element has the same convexity as the upper surface 24 of the plug, so that the two surfaces are substantially in contact with each other. In this way, when the top of the plug is pressed downwards, the contact between the upper surface 24 thereof with the top of the fracturing element 32 pushes the fracturing element itself downwards.
  • Alternatively, the cylindrical portion can be without such an upper surface 24. In this case, the pressing can be exerted directly on the top 32 of such a fracturing element.
  • The fracturing element is kept inside the cavity so that it cannot fall by gravity through annular projections 33 that engage with respective projections 26 present on the inner surface of the cavity 25.
  • The membrane 4 is fixedly connected to the plug so as to close the cavity 25, preferably, it is associated with the lower edge 26 of the cavity 25 through thermowelding and the fracturing element has a fracturing tip or edge 34 suitable for penetrating such a membrane when it is pushed downwards in the way indicated above. In this way, the cavity where the first substance is kept is substantially tight with respect to the surrounding environment.
  • The thermowelding of the membrane and the annular projections ensure the hermetic seal of the environment in which the first substance is kept inside the plug.
  • The preparation operations of the product occur in the following way. Starting from the three separate elements: plug 2, fracturing element 3 and membrane 4, the fracturing element is inserted into the inner cavity 25 of the plug. Thereafter, the first substance, usually in powder, liquid or gel form, is inserted into the cavity inside the fracturing element 3. Then, the membrane 4 is thermowelded onto the lower edge 26 of the cylindrical portion 21 of the plug 2.
  • Finally, the device thus assembled is associated with the bottle 6.
  • The operations of mixing and using the substance take place in the following way. The first operation to carry out is that of exerting a pressure on the top of the plug so as to bend the flexible upper surface 24 towards the inside of the plug and exert a pressure on the top 32 of the fracturing element. In the case in which the upper surface 24 is not present, a pressure is exerted directly on the fracturing element.
  • Following such pressing, such an element falls downwards, passing the obstacle formed by the aforementioned projections and the fracturing tip 34 perforates the membrane 4. Then, by the force of gravity the first substance comes out from the cavity inside the fracturing element, mixing with the content of the bottle (second substance). By then separating the plug from the bottle it is possible to use the product formed by the mixing of the two substances.
