Definitions
- the invention relates to novel compounds derived from 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol useful for the manufacture of polymers. More particularly, the invention relates to the use of these compounds derived from 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol for the manufacture of polymer coating.
- compositions for making polymers for example in the form of polymeric coatings. It may be for example protective coatings, decorative, or surface treatment.
- crosslinkable compositions for this use in the literature and in commerce. These compositions consist for the most part of a mixture of polymerizable monomers manufactured by the chemical industry from petroleum derivatives.
- the polymers can either be dissolved or suspended with a crosslinking agent, then applied to the substrate, and finally crosslinked after evaporation of the solvent, either deposited by standard "powder coating” techniques, or melted to be deposited. In all cases, these deposition techniques require a post-crosslinking step. The fact that the realization of the coating requires several successive steps is binding.
- the document DE 19939403 A1 discloses a family of compounds useful in the manufacture of composite parts for use in human and veterinary medicine, for example for the manufacture of implants. These compounds are not used for the manufacture of coatings.
- the exemplified compounds are all made from lactide.
- compositions comprising cyclic (meth) acrylate compounds having a specific general formula, said compounds obtainable by (meth) acrylation of isosorbide. These compounds are monomers capable of polymerizing them by radical means. This is called homopolymerization.
- the advantage of using such (meth) acrylic derivatives is to allow rapid crosslinking, thermally or photochemically.
- coatings obtained from these compositions by homopolymerization have a fairly low impact resistance and are very brittle as demonstrated below.
- the cyclic compounds are obtained by prior modification with alkylene oxide before being subsequently (meth) acrylated.
- the alkylene oxides are in gaseous form at ambient temperature and pressure.
- the prior modification reaction is therefore difficult to achieve, especially in industrial installations.
- this prior reaction with alkylene oxide can pose safety problems. No advantage of this particular variant is advanced in this application and no coating from these compounds has been realized and characterized.
- WO 2011/048739 aims according to another variant compositions based on derivatives (meth) acrylates of isosorbide and polyurethane (meth) acrylate derivatives.
- the use of polymers carrying urethane type functions can be problematic because of the thermal instability of the urethane bond (thermally reversible at temperatures of the order of 180-200 ° C.), the release of products. toxic in case of fire and the toxicity of the diisocyanate reagents used.
- polymers such as polyurethanes bearing (meth) acrylate functions in isosorbide (meth) acrylate compositions decreases the abrasion resistance of the polymer obtained from this composition.
- the coatings obtained from these isosorbide (meth) acrylate derivatives have a fairly low impact resistance and are very brittle.
- One of the objectives of the present invention is also to provide a crosslinkable composition making it easier to manufacture coatings, preferably without drying step or not requiring melting the product to be applied to the support.
- the compound (A) described above can take different forms and be obtained by the methods described below.
- groups C m H 2m of the compound (A) are alkylene groups with 5 carbon atoms which can be linear or branched, preferably linear.
- the compound (A) can be obtained via a compound (A ') of formula:
- This compound (A ') can be obtained by a process comprising a polymerization step by reacting a 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol with at least one reagent, called "polymerization reagent", which is a compound chosen from lactones. , hydroxy acids or a mixture of these compounds.
- polymerization reagent which is a compound chosen from lactones. , hydroxy acids or a mixture of these compounds.
- the 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol may be chosen from isosorbide, isomannide and isoidide, and is preferably isosorbide.
- the process for producing (A ') generally comprises a preliminary step of adding in a reactor 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol and the polymerization reagent, that is to say lactone and / or hydroxy acid .
- These reagents can be introduced separately or in a mixture.
- from 0.1 to 100 moles of polymerization reagent are used per mole of 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol, preferably from 0.5 to 15 moles, preferably from 1 to 5 moles, for example 1, 5 to 4.5.
- the compound (A ') can thus be obtained according to a first variant by making, during the polymerization step, reacting a lactone with a 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol according to the following reaction scheme 1:
- the lactone is advantageously ⁇ -caprolactone.
- the choice of the lactone determines, for the compounds (A) and (A '), whether these groups are linear or branched.
- the alkylene group C m H 2m of the compound (A '), and therefore of (A) has 5 carbon atoms and is linear.
- a mixture of lactones it is possible to obtain compounds (A ') and consequently compounds (A) having alkylene units which differ from each other.
- the compound (A ') can also be obtained, according to a second variant, by making, during the polymerization step, reacting a hydroxy acid with a 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol according to the following reaction scheme 2:
- the hydroxy acid is chosen from hydroxycaproic acid, 2-hydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutyric acid or 2-hydroxyisocaproic acid, advantageously hydroxycaproic acid.
- the choice of the hydroxy acid determines, for the compounds (A) and (A '), the number of carbons of the alkylene groups and whether these groups are linear or branched. In the case where a mixture of hydroxy acids is used, it is possible to obtain compounds (A ') and consequently compounds (A) having alkylene units which differ from each other.
- This polymerization step is generally carried out in the presence of a catalyst in order to facilitate the reaction.
- a biocatalyst such as Yarrowia lipolytica lipase may be used as described in document Macromolecular Symposia, 2009, Vol 283-284, Pages 144-151 where the lipase is immobilized on a support resin.
- a chemical catalyst for example sodium metal or a tin catalyst, as described in the "Examples" section below. It is possible to use between 0.001 to 10% by weight of catalyst relative to the total mass of the reactants.
- This reaction may in particular be in the solvent phase, for example in tetrahydrofuran, toluene or dimethylformamide.
- the total concentration of reagents in the solvent which depends on the solubility of the reagents in this solvent, is conventionally adjusted and may especially range from 10 to 2000 g / l, for example from 100 to 350 g / l.
- the reaction medium may be adjusted to a temperature ranging from 25 to 180 ° C, for example from 60 to 120 ° C, for example from 60 to 80 ° C.
- the reaction can optionally be carried out under reflux.
- the solvent can be removed after the polymerization, generally by distillation which can be carried out under reduced pressure.
- the composition obtained at the end of the polymerization may comprise various compounds (A ') and optionally unreacted reagents, for example 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol and or polymers of lactones or hydroxy acids, these polymers possibly being cyclized.
- one or more washing steps of the composition obtained can be carried out, for example with water, in particular with salt water. It is also possible to use other separation techniques, for example distillation, chromatography, crystallization or precipitation techniques in one or more solvents.
- the composition resulting from the polymerization may be precipitated in an alcohol solvent, said alcohol solvent being advantageously an aliphatic alcohol comprising from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, for example in methanol.
- the compounds (A ') precipitate in the alcohol solvent.
- ether solvent advantageously an aliphatic ether comprising from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, preferably from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, for example ethyl ether.
- the manufacturing process comprises a step of recovering the compound (A ') or the composition comprising (A') resulting from the polymerization.
- the composition obtained comprises compounds (A ') which are either compounds of type (A'1) when the value x or y is equal to 0, or compounds of type (A'2) when the value of x and y is greater than or equal to 1.
- the composition comprises compounds (A'1) of which a single OH function of 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol has reacted with the polymerization reagent and compounds (A'2) whose the two OH functions of 1: 4, 3: 6 dianhydrohexitol reacted with the polymerization reagent.
- composition obtained at the end of the polymerization can thus comprise compounds (A'1) and (A'2) in a molar ratio (A'2) / ((A'1) + (A'2)) which can from 0 to 1, preferably from 0.05 to 0.8, especially from 0.2 to 0.6.
- the molar ratio (A'2) / ((A'1) + (A'2)) can be calculated by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of Proton ( 1 H NMR).
- the characteristic peak of the compounds (A'2) has a chemical shift of 4.8 ppm

Description
On parle alors d'homopolymérisation.

- x est un entier allant de 0 à 100, avantageusement allant de 0 à 49, préférentiellement allant de 0 à 14, par exemple de 1 à 14 ;
- y est un entier allant de 0 à 100, avantageusement allant de 0 à 49, préférentiellement allant de 0 à 14, par exemple de 1 à 14 ;
- x+y est un entier supérieur ou égal à 1, avantageusement allant de 1 à 50, préférentiellement allant de 2 à 15, voire de 2 à 8 ;

- de 1 à 99,99 % monomère (A), avantageusement de 20 à 85%, de préférence de 40 à 60 % ;
- de 0 à 98,99 % monomère (B), avantageusement de 15 à 80%, de préférence de 40 à 60 % ;
- de 0,01 à 20 % d'amorceur ;
- de 0 à 10 % de constituant non copolymérisable ;
- une bonne transparence ;
- une brillance élevée ;
- une bonne adhésion au substrat ;
- une dureté élevée ;
- une bonne résistance à l'abrasion ou à l'usure ;
- une bonne résistance chimique, aux solvants ou une bonne tenue à l'eau, mais aussi aux bases et aux acides ;
- une bonne tenue à l'impact/au choc ;
