Definitions
- the present invention relates to a new flexible waterproof strip with a multiaxial configuration, the object of which is to improve the seal of gaskets in sanitary installations, such as the gaskets at the perimeter edges of shower trays, bathtubs, washbasins, etc., although it may also be applied to different facilities and facing where there are critical gaskets in damp areas and where optimal sealing conditions are required, such as delivering window frames to the worksite, etc.
- the invention consists of a new flexible waterproof strip with a multiaxial configuration, which enables a sealed joint to be obtained between at least a first element (shower tray, bathtub, etc.), a second element (facing, floor, etc.) and a third element (coating), the main novelty of which lies in the fact that it comprises a first sheet and a second sheet with a flexible and waterproof multilayer structure, which are joined to each other in a first area from where they separate, thus defining each flexible branches. Furthermore, the branches are covered, at least partially, on their inner surfaces by an adhesive sheet, which in turn is covered by a protective film, which must be removed before installing the waterproof strip.
- Each one of the branches covered with adhesive sheet is stuck onto one of the two contiguous faces of the first element (shower tray, bathtub, etc.) around the entire perimeter, its position being adjusted as required in order to cover the gasket with the second element (wall or floor).
- the waterproof strip is stuck with an adhesive, preferably of the C2 cement contact type, onto the surface of the second element (facing, floor, etc.) such that both elements are joined and then the third element (coating, paving) is stuck onto the second element (facing, floor, etc.), preferably with the C2 cement contact type, in such a way that the first area formed of the joining of the first and second sheets is hidden between both second and third elements, and such that the branches are hidden in the joint between the second element (facing, floor, etc.) and the first and third element (coating, paving), which means that the entire sheet is hidden and provides a sealed joint between the first, second and third element, unlike the state of the art in which the sealed joint is visible from the outside, as explained in the background of the invention.
- an adhesive preferably of the C2 cement contact type
- This configuration has the advantage that the sealing gasket is completely hidden by the first, second and third element that may be the coating or paving itself as well as the sanitary installation or facing where it is mounted.
- the preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the first and second sheets are equipped with a waterproof layer, which includes a reinforcing mesh on the rear surface thereof.
- the waterproof layer of the first and second sheets is a polymer material and the reinforcing mesh is a textile material such that the strip is completely flexible, thus adapting to any surface contour, not only straight planes in facings or pavings, therefore enabling sanitary installations, such as round shower trays, etc., to be surrounded. Moreover, given that they are flexible, this configuration enables the branches to adopt any angle, among them, acute, right angle or obtuse, which makes them adaptable to any surface design to be joined in a sealed manner.
- the adhesive sheets are arranged forming a single, continuous adhesive sheet.
- the adhesive sheet is made by means of a resin, preferably of the butyl type.
- the invention provides that the flexible branches may have different widths according to the configuration of the surfaces on which they must be stuck.
- the main advantage of this device is that it seals said critical areas on two planes, whether they are at right angles to each other (orthogonal ) or not, unlike the current sealing methods such as coating the gaskets with silicone and incorporating profiles over the perimeter of the sanitary installations, among others.
- the strip may adapt to any contour of the installations, not only straight planes in facings or pavings, therefore meaning that it can surround sanitary installations such as round shower trays, etc.
- Figure 1 shows the configuration of the waterproof strip of the invention where the main novelty lies in the fact that it is made up of two sheets; a first sheet (1) and a second sheet (2), both flexible and waterproof, which are joined to each other in a first area (3) from where they separate, thus defining each flexible branch (4), in such a way that said branches form a variable angle between one another due to their flexibility, which may adapt to any corner and with the purpose of waterproofing on two different planes, as shall be described below.
- both branches (4) are covered by an adhesive sheet (5), upon which a removable protective film (6) is comprised.
- the strip is used to carry out a sealed gasket joint between a first element (11), a second element (9) and a third element (10).
- the first element (11) is a shower tray
- the second element (9) is a facing
- the third element (10) is the coating.
- the protective films (6) are removed and each of the adhesive sheets (5) are stuck onto each one of the two contiguous faces of the shower tray (11).
- the first area (3) is arranged hidden between the facing (9) and the coating (10), which are subsequently joined to each other, as may be seen in said figure 3 . In this arrangement, it may be seen that the entire strip is hidden, thus improving the aesthetic of the assembly at the same time as carrying out the sealed joint of the different elements (9, 10, 11).
- the first element is a shower tray (11), the second element is a floor (12) and the third element is the paving (13).
- the adhesive sheets (5) are stuck onto the two contiguous faces of the shower tray (11) and the first area (3) is arranged hidden between the floor (12) and the paving (13), as may be seen in said figure 4 . Furthermore, the entire strip is hidden.
- the branches (4) have different width sizes in order to adapt to the dimensions of the shower tray (11) surfaces. This width adapts to the dimensions of the surface on which it must be stuck.
- the flexible branches of figures 3 and 4 form a right angle but, due to being flexible, they may form any angle and adapt to any surface contour, such as round shower trays, for example.
- Both the first (1) and the second sheet (2) comprise a waterproof layer (7) realised with a polymer material that includes a reinforcing mesh (8) on the rear surface thereof, which is also flexible and made of a textile material, and which provides the strip with greater consistency.
- the adhesive strips (5) are made by means of a butyl-type resin.

Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a new flexible waterproof strip with a multiaxial configuration, the object of which is to improve the seal of gaskets in sanitary installations, such as the gaskets at the perimeter edges of shower trays, bathtubs, washbasins, etc., although it may also be applied to different facilities and facing where there are critical gaskets in damp areas and where optimal sealing conditions are required, such as delivering window frames to the worksite, etc.
- It is known in the state of the art that in order to seal sanitary installations, a silicon gasket is applied in the joints of the different elements of the installation. In addition, metal or plastic material profiles are incorporated over the perimeter of the sanitary installation. In any of the cases, both the profile and the silicone gasket are visible from the outside, which worsens the aesthetic of the installation. Carrying out the seal from the outside leaves the used materials exposed to wear and tear caused by normal cleaning products and processes and, in particular, carrying out the seal by means of silicone requires periodic inspection and renewal.
- In order to achieve the objectives and solve the aforementioned drawbacks, the invention consists of a new flexible waterproof strip with a multiaxial configuration, which enables a sealed joint to be obtained between at least a first element (shower tray, bathtub, etc.), a second element (facing, floor, etc.) and a third element (coating), the main novelty of which lies in the fact that it comprises a first sheet and a second sheet with a flexible and waterproof multilayer structure, which are joined to each other in a first area from where they separate, thus defining each flexible branches.
- Once the waterproof strip has been placed, it is stuck with an adhesive, preferably of the C2 cement contact type, onto the surface of the second element (facing, floor, etc.) such that both elements are joined and then the third element (coating, paving) is stuck onto the second element (facing, floor, etc.), preferably with the C2 cement contact type, in such a way that the first area formed of the joining of the first and second sheets is hidden between both second and third elements, and such that the branches are hidden in the joint between the second element (facing, floor, etc.) and the first and third element (coating, paving), which means that the entire sheet is hidden and provides a sealed joint between the first, second and third element, unlike the state of the art in which the sealed joint is visible from the outside, as explained in the background of the invention.
- In the preferred embodiment of the adhesive sheets, it is provided that they are arranged forming a single, continuous adhesive sheet.
- The adhesive sheet, whether it is continuous or not, is made by means of a resin, preferably of the butyl type.
- The invention provides that the flexible branches may have different widths according to the configuration of the surfaces on which they must be stuck.
- As a result, the current sealing problems in critical areas, such as the perimeter edges of sanitary installations such as bathtubs and/or shower trays, window corners with outer rain guard, etc., are solved by means of the configuration described.
- The main advantage of this device is that it seals said critical areas on two planes, whether they are at right angles to each other (orthogonal ) or not, unlike the current sealing methods such as coating the gaskets with silicone and incorporating profiles over the perimeter of the sanitary installations, among others.
- Furthermore, due to its flexibility, the strip may adapt to any contour of the installations, not only straight planes in facings or pavings, therefore meaning that it can surround sanitary installations such as round shower trays, etc.
- For the purpose of helping to make this specification more readily understandable, a set of drawings constituting an integral part of the same has been included below, wherein the object of the invention is represented by way of illustrative and non-limiting examples.
-
-
Figure 1 .- Shows a schematic representation of the configuration of the strip of the invention. -
Figure 2 .- Shows a detailed cross-section of the configuration of the strip of the previous figure. -
Figure 3 .- Shows an exemplary application of the strip of the invention, in which it is used to carry out the sealed joint between a shower tray, the facing and the coating. -
Figure 4 .- Shows another exemplary application of the strip of the invention, in which it is used to carry out the sealed joint between a shower tray, the floor and paving. - Following, a description of the invention based on the aforementioned figures is detailed.
-
Figure 1 shows the configuration of the waterproof strip of the invention where the main novelty lies in the fact that it is made up of two sheets; a first sheet (1) and a second sheet (2), both flexible and waterproof, which are joined to each other in a first area (3) from where they separate, thus defining each flexible branch (4), in such a way that said branches form a variable angle between one another due to their flexibility, which may adapt to any corner and with the purpose of waterproofing on two different planes, as shall be described below. - The inner surfaces of both branches (4) are covered by an adhesive sheet (5), upon which a removable protective film (6) is comprised.
- In the preferred embodiment of
figure 3 , the strip is used to carry out a sealed gasket joint between a first element (11), a second element (9) and a third element (10). In the preferred embodiment, the first element (11) is a shower tray, the second element (9) is a facing and the third element (10) is the coating. - Before mounting the waterproof strip, the protective films (6) are removed and each of the adhesive sheets (5) are stuck onto each one of the two contiguous faces of the shower tray (11). The first area (3) is arranged hidden between the facing (9) and the coating (10), which are subsequently joined to each other, as may be seen in said
figure 3 . In this arrangement, it may be seen that the entire strip is hidden, thus improving the aesthetic of the assembly at the same time as carrying out the sealed joint of the different elements (9, 10, 11). - In the example of
figure 4 , the first element is a shower tray (11), the second element is a floor (12) and the third element is the paving (13). - In this case, and after the protective films (6) have been removed, the adhesive sheets (5) are stuck onto the two contiguous faces of the shower tray (11) and the first area (3) is arranged hidden between the floor (12) and the paving (13), as may be seen in said
figure 4 . Furthermore, the entire strip is hidden. - As may be seen in
figures 3 and4 , the branches (4) have different width sizes in order to adapt to the dimensions of the shower tray (11) surfaces. This width adapts to the dimensions of the surface on which it must be stuck. - Moreover, the flexible branches of
figures 3 and4 form a right angle but, due to being flexible, they may form any angle and adapt to any surface contour, such as round shower trays, for example. - Both the first (1) and the second sheet (2) comprise a waterproof layer (7) realised with a polymer material that includes a reinforcing mesh (8) on the rear surface thereof, which is also flexible and made of a textile material, and which provides the strip with greater consistency.
- Regarding the adhesive strips (5), they are made by means of a butyl-type resin.
