Daneben werden zur Anpassung der nicht ETCS-kompatiblen nationalen Zugsicherungssysteme an das ETCS-Fahrzeuggerät STMs - Specific Transmission Moduls - eingesetzt. Diese ermöglichen die Weiterbenutzung der nationalen Zugsicherungssysteme in einer Übergangsphase.
