Description

The present invention is a bodyboard with a thermal engine, able to evolve in planing and in the waves.

Its function and its characteristics aim at towing the user in the water, beyond the planing speed of the bodyboard, so planing, and to sail at a speed around 15 km / h in position of bodydrag. Thus the user can evolve in the waves, catch up and overtake them, in ventral surfing, ensuring if possible that they do not break on the machine.

ART ANTERIEUR :PRIOR ART:

Solutions of light and motorized watercraft, which do not come under the name of boat (no buoyancy sufficient to board a person standing, sitting or lying) are few.

HONDA ( JP 2007203866 ) distributes an underwater motor scooter which, in navigation, is completely submerged under water except its snorkel: it is the version with thermal engine of electric underwater scooters. This concept remains remote and incompatible with the requirements necessary for the present invention, and which are:
  • the existence of a nautical hull, which must remain visible in navigation,
  • an electric starter, as opposed to a manual launcher, for speed and for the necessary engine range
  • a system to prevent backflow of water into the engine by the exhaust, when it is cut
  • and other equipment required for the intended planing and wave program, which is described below.

CAYAGO ( www.cayago.com ) is another reference to the more comparable sensations, in electric version : the company offers an electric boating solo electric, performing on the surface with a speed of 15 to 20 km / h for 5 to 6 hp, and can also go down to 50 m depth, and thus abandoning the flat shape for a form of shells suitable for diving the craft. However, given the electric batteries required for a diving program and the good performance delivered, the product displays a weight of 60 kg, for a remaining autonomy limited to one hour of use, besides a rather dissuasive cost of these technologies.

The English patent N ° GB2270282i generally presents a bodyboard with a heat engine. However, four important points for the viability of the machine, for its interest and its extension to a program of use in speed and waves, have not been identified or solved to date:
  • since the engine as well as the exhaust gas are located under the line of floatation, since the aircraft plans to be able to stop and remain stationary in water possibly agitated, one faces a problem of certain reassembly of the water in the engine by the exhaust, this very after the cooling and the retraction of the burned gases present in the exhaust, the exhaust being very short, that is to say of only a few centimeters, with gas all the more burning, which can convey the oil of the 2-stroke engine (mixing at 2 to 3%), the machine must have a system that counteracts or blocks the arrival of water into the engine, which is not very sensitive in time to the high temperature and the oil, and without maintenance.
  • to target a planning and wave speed program, a craft of this nature, which is slowed by the significant turbulence of the user's body in the water, requires a mechanical thrust available from an engine power of the order of 5 hp or more. Such engine power is not reasonably bootable by anyone with a manual launcher, let alone at sea without firm support on the ground. The debauchery of human energy would compromise the safety of the user: cramps, fast fatigue, big wave approaching ... with a very low probability of being able to start on the first try. The invention aimed here at a speed and wave program therefore requires that the invention be compulsorily provided with an automatic start (electric motor starter).
  • to access a wave navigation program with the inherent risks of capsize and brittle wave on the craft, it must have a device for automatically shutting off the air intake by the snorkel on manual release or a sensor
  • finally to keep the engine idling without wishing any displacement, a clutch device can be useful.

So there is currently no invention that brings these solutions to the needs and key points previously discussed.

  • it could be used to equip the surveillance of dangerous beaches for swimming
  • it can be used to tow without a license boat surfers or kitesurfers
  • it also allows a form of fast and fun hiking, sea, lake or river ..

The technical invention that it requires is also very particular in the arrangement of the constituent parts and in the devices that it embeds.

L'INVENTION:THE INVENTION

L'invention concerne un bodyboard à moteur thermique selon la revendication 1.The invention relates to a motor-driven bodyboard according to claim 1.

The user is therefore flat on the water, gripping the machine by hands, which may be handles or other located on the top of the upper bodyboard, called the hull. Part of the hull remains emerged at the stop as in navigation. The shape and material of the hull may vary (bodyboard, small ventral surf as non-limiting examples): any hull that gives buoyancy to the user, but which remains insufficient for a user of 80 kg to allow him a position of standing navigation, and also insufficient for the craft to float with a user out of water of 80 kg lying on the machine. Thus, under the most current legislation, the craft is not a boat, but a propeller. The machine is less than 2 meters long.

The user rest his forearms and possibly part of his bust on the hull, legs dragging in the water behind the machine, because it is directed by pulling on one or the other of his arms to guide his navigation, his legs acting as a rudder. The user accelerates and slows down by means of an acceleration command.

For reasons of acoustic optimization, stability and cooling, all or part of the engine is below the waterline of the machine.

Under the hull or integrated into the hull, depending on the thickness of it during production, is therefore the propulsive part of the machine. This block of propulsion may find it advantageous to be located at a distance of a few centimeters (at least 2 cm) below the planing hull of the hull, so as not to alter the water flows on which the hull of the hull is supported and ricocheted. navigation phase. In this case, the propulsion unit can be connected to the bodyboard by rigid and profiled connecting pieces, or spacers.

Due to its vocation, it is also necessary that the machine is restarted quickly between two waves, and in the water, where the user does not necessarily foot, so electrically. An electric starter also allows access to the engine power range of 5 to 7 hp here needed for the gear for the target speed.

The machine must also embark a system to compensate for the possible water infiltration by the air intake towards the carburetor of the engine, in this program of waves where the projections of water can often occur, and side exhausts, taking into account turbulent movements. When the engine speed is idle, so that the machine stops while remaining in operation, it can be provided with a clutch between the propeller to the motor shaft, centrifugal type or other. For reasons of noise and odor nuisance, the engine exhaust gas duct opens below the waterline of the vehicle when put into the water. In addition, the user must be able to leave the machine off for a long time in the water, then take it back at this location and restart it. The machine must therefore embark a system to prevent upwelling harmful seawater to the engine, due to the retraction of flue gases (600-700 °) during cooling, and their exfiltrations. Indeed, the circuit traversed by the air-fuel mixture of a 2-stroke engine is not very tight, in the opposite direction to the tuba. The solution provides for the use of an electric micro-pump, periodically blowing air into the exhaust, and / or a manual or automatic tilted valve.

When the user can be evicted out of reach of his machine, a device can be provided for the double security of the user and the machine:
  • detection of the eviction of the user, by releasing a trigger on the handle, a safety cord torn off, or another sensor
  • an automatic closing of the air intake supplying the engine, by releasing a valve, with an immediate stop of the engine.

Finally, for reasons of transport by plane, or to use the bodyboard alone without a motor in a conventional manner, it can be expected to quickly and easily separate the motor part of the bodyboard part, at the connecting parts of the propulsion unit soft-boiled. The machine aims for an ultra-light empty weight around 10 kg, which allows the machine to be pleasantly portable in a backpack.

REALISATION :PRODUCTION :

The embodiment presented as an example of implementation consists of 2 parts: the propulsion unit and the shell.

The two parts are separated by a few centimeters and connected by some connecting pieces (8) or spacers.

The attached diagram gives the illustration of an embodiment from a bodyboard, but this could only be a simple example of the form of the ventral surf. It describes the principle of mounting the machine, without its fairing or its handles, and with a non-integrated tank.

The surface part includes:
  • a planing hull hull (1) here 1.20 meters long, which is generally flat, but which may have artifices that increase its ability to planing or heading: a cut in light V, tunnels, recesses ... or a slightly spatulate shape at the front to better pass the waves
  • the planing hull is lightweight and rigid enough for the desired mechanical qualities. This hull is not translucent and does not concede anything for any purpose other than described, it does not allow the use of this machine for the purpose of viewing the underwater scenery
  • a snorkel (2) bringing the surface air into the sealed air chamber (9) isolating the carburettor from the seawater. A wide snorkel optionally allows the passage to the propulsion unit of the throttle control (5), fuel line and power supply wires
  • a check valve in the engine air intake, which is optional, and is tilted to the closed position when user eviction is detected: by releasing a trigger, a safety cord torn off, or 'another sensor, the engine is stopped
  • the inserts of the struts (7) in the bodyboard: by pinching the rigid foam of the bodyboard by large washers on either side, or inserts embedded in the resin, on the basis of a small ventral surf in stiffer material
  • a gas tank of 2 or 3 liters (3), ideally molded in the emergent part. The tank may be equipped with baffles to reduce the movement of gasoline due to navigation
  • a battery pack (4) supplying the electronic ignition of the gasoline engine (10), the starter (11) and the micro-pump (15), and the electronic or electromechanical servocontrol systems of the valve and the micro- pump
  • some control functions associated with the handles, including:
    • o a circuit breaker indicating the eviction of the user
    • o a starter start and stop button o an engine throttle trigger
    • o There may be a system for attaching a harness carried by the user, behind the bodyboard, this for high speeds pulling too long on the arms. This activity can be very physical depending on the pace of changes of trajectories and rhythms chained.

The propulsion block comprises:
  • an assembly frame (17) of the various elements and the fairing
  • a disengageable electric starter (11)
  • a light and powerful engine (10)
  • an exhaust duct (13) with a downward inclination of its outlet (air siphon) and evacuating the flue gases at the powerful stream of water leaving the hydrojet, in fine bubbles thus reducing the noise generated and several meters behind the user
  • possibly, a clutch to initially facilitate the work of the starter, and subsequently be able to leave the machine stationary while remaining engine running at the speed of slow motion
  • a hydrojet system (12) consisting of a propeller housed in a nozzle, such as a jet-ski,
  • a seawater anti-return system to the engine, in the exhaust duct, here making the choice of a micro-electric air pump (15), blowing air into the exhaust, and which can be functional when the machine is running or also stopped at anchor
  • a system for purging water infiltrations into the engine air intake, at the level of the tuba or the bottom of the carburetor insulation bell, which can be constituted by the same electric micro-pump, drawing air here and sometimes the water infiltrated to reject everything in the exhaust.
  • a fairing specific to the propulsion unit (here removed in the figure), attached to it, and which does not cover the board, so as not to reduce the surface of the hull offering the planing, It has openings to guide the flow water to the engine crankcase for cooling purposes, and to the hydrojet system, for propulsion purposes.
  • an electronic ignition (16), preferably, supplies the spark plug of the engine
  • the frame (17) supports the assembly of the mechanical elements and transmits the thrust to the bodyboard, through the 4 spacers (8) of attachment. The frame here consists of 2 longitudinal members of carbon profiles joined together, section 20x10 mm and 50 cm long.
  • the propeller shaft will be centered on its length by the ball bearings and a bearing stop, housed in a pylon (14). The axial thrust created by the hydrojet propulsion is transmitted to the frame by the pylon, itself securely screwed to the frame. So the gas engine does not have to endure significant axial force

Precautions are required to operate underwater a gasoline engine that is not a natural candidate to operate in this element. Here are the special features to plan around the propulsion system to make this technically bold choice viable:
  • the motor shaft output seal is favored by the choice of a 2-stroke engine, rather than 4-stroke: in the case of a 2-stroke engine, the seal is natively ensured by sealed ball bearings. the depressions and overpressures of the gaseous air-gasoline-oil mixture circulating in the crankcase of the crankcase, before being injected towards the cylinder. This seal can possibly be doubled by a greased lip seal.
  • the electric starter will ideally be in the motor housing, otherwise it will have to be adapted to the constraints of the underwater environment due to the existence of moving parts.
  • the parts are preferably composite materials to remain insensitive to corrosion problems
  • the surfaces of the metal parts can be protected by the usual anti-corrosion techniques: anodizing, surface treatment, sacrificial anode zinc or magnesium, surface coating, resin casting ... Marine corrosion is however not as important as in the ports with a high presence of metallic masses: in the present case of intended use, the intermittent launching and daily rinsing added to the other precautions above are sufficient to limit the corrosion accordingly

The main weight items are located in the following items:
  • the heat engine will count 2 kg, for 5 to 7 HP
  • the electric starter will unfortunately count about 1 kg
  • the battery will be 0.5 to 1 kg
  • the addition of a compact and sealed centrifugal clutch, similar in size to what exists in some rotary garden weed cutters, will be 0.5 kg

It is therefore possible to realize the invention for a total empty weight (excluding fuel) of less than 10 kg, bodyboard included, as the assembly attached schematic. Depending on the rotational speed of the engine selected, and to minimize the cavitation phenomena in the stirred water flow, it will be necessary to adopt a good combination of the elements influencing the load and the efficiency of the engine: the pitch of the propeller and the surface propeller, the adoption of anti-cavitation propeller cones in front of and behind the propeller, and at worst, a possible reduction box on the propeller axis.

The user puts his thruster into the water, switches on the general electric switch, engages the machine and presses the push button of the electric starter to start the engine. Then it regulates its speed by the manual control of acceleration.
