Definitions
- the invention relates to an arrangement for influencing the kinetics of chemical reactions by means of surface acoustic waves according to claim 1 and a method according to claim 5.
- the invention relates to a method based on the use of surface acoustic waves, which in particular chemical reactions can be influenced in their course and thus the efficiency of these reactions can be increased (acceleration of the reaction processes, increased material turnover, etc.).
- the slowest reaction step determines the kinetics of the overall reaction.
- the speed of the overall reaction is therefore mainly due to the Rate determines with which the electrochemically active particles are transported to the working electrode. If this rate is insufficient, the current decreases continuously over time with constant voltage. This dependence of the speed is described in the literature ( VM Schmidt: Electrochemical Process Engineering. Basics, Reaction Engineering, Process Optimization. WILEY-VHC publishing house, 2004; ISBN No .: 9783527299584 )
- This gradient is the driving force for the subsequent delivery of further electrochemically active particles to the electrode and determines the rate at which the reaction proceeds. It is known from the literature that the use of ultrasound can influence the forming boundary layer and thus the chemical reaction. As a rule, high-power ultrasound in the frequency range from 20 kHz to 2 MHz is applied to the electrode with the aid of ultrasonic horns (so-called sonotrodes), but the sonotrode must be brought directly to or in the vicinity of the electrode, usually by immersing the sonotrode happens in the electrolyte.
- DE 10 2007 043563 A1 a method of etching, plating, cleaning and developing photoresist with ultrasound support. This relates to a method for metal deposition. From the US 2004/0168706 A1 For example, a cleaning method using ultrasonic waves is known.
- the problem underlying the invention is to provide an arrangement and a method which make it possible to influence chemical reactions in the simplest and most effective manner possible.
- the means for generating surface waves comprise an acoustic transducer which converts an electrical signal into vibrations which are transmitted to the active surface.
- the converter is an interdigital transducer with which, for example, surface acoustic waves can also be excited in active areas made of a non-piezoelectric material.
- Another field of application of the arrangement according to the invention is polymer chemistry.
- an improved emulsion of substances needed for polymerization reactions can be achieved.
- the Formation of thin polymer films on the active surface are prevented (eg on an electrode surface), which influence the further electrode reaction.
- the catalytic activity could be increased during a reaction.
- the transducer can be externally mounted (fixed) on the active surface in the form of an electrode, which may also consist of a non-piezoelectric material, and surface waves are generated in the active surface.
- an electrode which may also consist of a non-piezoelectric material
- surface waves are generated in the active surface.
- the type of surface waves excited in the active area depends in particular on the thickness of the substrates used and the acoustic wavelength.
- surface waves of the Rayleigh-wave type can be excited, in particular with thick substrates, i. if the substrate thickness (the thickness of the active area) is greater than the acoustic wavelength.
- Surface waves of the lamb wave type can be excited with thin substrates, wherein the substrate thickness must be smaller than the acoustic wavelength.
- the bulk waves are thus radiated into the liquid at the Rayleigh angle, thereby reducing the energy of the remaining surface acoustic wave.
- An "active surface” is to be understood in particular as meaning the surface of a solid (for example of metal, glass, plastic, ceramic) on or in whose immediate vicinity a chemical reaction or a physical process takes place and / or is excited or influenced can.
- the fluid disposed within the reaction vessel may be, for example, gases, but also liquids which may contain dissolved organic or inorganic substances (such as salts). Such liquids would be, for example, water, ammonia, THF, acetone, acetonitrile, DMSO, hexane, toluene or benzene. Alternatively, the fluid may also be a melt of organic or inorganic substances or metals.
- the reaction vessel has a bottom, wherein an opening for filling in the fluid is present in relation to the bottom. From the bottom of a side wall of the reaction vessel from which, together with the bottom of an inner volume of the Reaction vessel limited.
- the active surface is located, for example, at least partially in the inner volume of the reaction vessel.
- the arrangement for performing a chemical reaction further comprises a means for generating surface acoustic waves, which is suitable to excite surface acoustic waves within the at least one active surface, wherein at least a portion of the surface waves excited in the at least one active surface are transformed into bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves ) is converted within the fluid.
- the means for generating surface acoustic waves comprise at least one transmitter.
- the transmitter is designed in particular in the form of an interdigital transducer.
- an electrically insulating substrate extends on the side facing the reaction vessel (the mounting side) of the at least one active surface.
- the substrate may be formed in the form of a portion of a wall of the reaction vessel.
- an intermediate layer to be arranged between the substrate and the at least one active surface, via which at least part of the surface wave excited in the substrate couples into the at least one active surface.
- the active surface is partially in contact with the fluid, and the surface acoustic wave generating means is disposed on the active surface in the region which is not in contact with the fluid.
- a temperature control means is arranged on the reaction vessel, which is suitable for increasing or decreasing the temperature of the at least one active surface and / or of the fluid.
- reaction vessel is disposed within a housing, wherein on the housing, a pressure control means is provided, which is adapted to set a pressure within the housing or within the reaction vessel above or below the atmospheric pressure. This can be done for example by means of conventional high-pressure pumps or vacuum pumps.
- a second active surface is arranged inside the reaction vessel, wherein the fluid is arranged between the first and the second active surface.
- the means for generating surface acoustic waves in the first and / or the second active surface excite surface acoustic waves, wherein at least a part of the surface waves excited in the first and / or the second active surface are reflected in bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves) in the one between the two active surface fluid is converted.
- the first and second active surfaces are each formed as an electrode, which are connected to each other via voltage sources.
- the fluid is formed as an electrolyte.
- the means for generating surface acoustic waves in the first and / or the second electrode generates surface acoustic waves, wherein at least part of the surface waves applied in the first and / or the second electrode are in bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves) in the electrolyte located between the electrodes is converted.
- a chemical reaction in the electrolyte is influenced by the surface waves in the first and / or the second electrode and / or the volume sound waves in the electrolyte. In particular, the chemical reaction is accelerated.
- the means for generating surface acoustic waves comprise at least one transmitter, as mentioned, in particular in the form of an interdigital transducer.
- the transmitter is arranged on a side of the first electrode facing away from the electrolyte.
- an electrically insulating substrate may extend on a side of the first electrode facing away from the electrolyte.
- the electrically insulating substrate may be provided in particular in the form of a portion of a wall of a reaction vessel.
- surface acoustic waves are transmitted directly to the chemically active surface (an electrode), where they specifically influence the reaction.
- the sound is introduced into the reaction system from the outside, so that the sound transducers which generate the surface waves, including the associated electronics, do not come into direct contact with the chemically active substances or any built-in components impair the experimental setup.
- the process according to the invention is intended to be used primarily in electrochemical processes, but is also suitable for other chemical reaction processes.
- the method is flexibly adaptable to different experimental setups, so that existing chemical plants can remain unchanged.
- surface acoustic waves are transmitted directly to the chemically active surface (an electrode) in order to specifically influence the reaction there.
- the sound is ideally from the outside into the reaction system introduced, so that the sound transducer, which generate the surface waves including the associated electronics does not come into direct contact with the chemically active substances or affect any built-in parts of the experimental setup.
- the new in the inventive method and the arrangement according to the invention consists on the one hand, that the sound irradiation in the reaction system does not happen via introduced into the system components (eg sonotrodes), but the sound on the outside of the system directly to the electrode attached special piezoelectric Interdigital transducers, which stimulate surface acoustic waves, happens. That is, an internal reaction can be influenced via an externally mounted component, which could already be shown in individual experiments by a strong increase in the reaction rate, as already explained above.
- the sound irradiation is not diffusely directed to the electrode or other chemically active surface, as is the case with an ultrasonic horn; Rather, the sound is directed directly to the electrode, in particular via effects such as mode conversion and reverse mode conversion, where again a surface wave is generated.
- a simple piezoelectric component together with associated drive electronics is also applied to non-piezoelectric substrates, and surface waves are excited on these substrates and thus reactions which take place outside the piezoelectric substrate are influenced.
- a piezoelectric interdigital transducer can be used, which can be attached to the system "from the outside".
- no additional components must be introduced into the reaction system, which significantly minimizes problems with chemical resistance of the components or special adaptations of the component to the geometry of the experimental setup (so that the reaction is not disturbed by the component).
- the method according to the invention has the advantage that it can be flexibly adapted to different constructions and furthermore it is not fixed to a very specific area of chemistry or a very specific chemical process but can be applied in a variety of ways. The same is true for the arrangement according to the invention.
- a chemical reaction or a physical process within a reaction vessel is influenced, in particular accelerated, by targeted excitation of surface acoustic waves within at least one or more active surfaces and / or volume sound waves generated in a fluid. It is not necessary that the means for generating surface acoustic waves within the reaction vessel, in particular within the reaction fluid must be attached. This avoids that the means for generating surface acoustic waves is attacked by particularly aggressive chemical processes or such built-in parts affect the experimental design.
- the arrangement according to the invention and the method according to the invention are characterized in that a targeted and controlled excitation of the active surfaces by means of surface acoustic waves, for example, a better influence on the chemical reactions allows as a "sonication" over a wide area by means of, for example, an ultrasonic horn.
- a targeted and controlled excitation of the active surfaces by means of surface acoustic waves for example, a better influence on the chemical reactions allows as a "sonication" over a wide area by means of, for example, an ultrasonic horn.
- the process can be flexibly adapted to different experimental setups so that existing chemical plants can essentially remain unchanged.
- FIG. 1 shows an embodiment for performing a chemical reaction in a schematic view.
- the arrangement has a reaction vessel 8, in which a first and a second active area in the form of a first electrode 11 and a second electrode 12 are arranged.
- a fluid in the form of an electrolyte 31 is arranged between the first and the second electrode 11, 12.
- the arrangement has a means for generating surface acoustic waves - here an interdigital transducer 4 - arranged on a side wall 81 of the reaction vessel 8, wherein the interdigital transducer 4 is attached to the side (outer side) of the side wall 81 of the reaction vessel 8, that of the first Electrode 11 is turned away.
- the interdigital transducer 81 surface waves 6 are excited in the side wall, wherein it is the excited surface waves in particular Lamb waves, which are then excited when the thickness of the substrate is smaller than the wavelength.
- the reaction vessel 8 which is e.g. consists of an electrically insulating substance (for example, a reaction vessel made of glass) produces surface waves.
- the first electrode 11, on which a diffusion boundary layer 311 is formed is connected via an intermediate layer 51.
- This intermediate layer 51 may consist, for example, of a liquid or a gas. It is also conceivable that the intermediate layer 51 is formed by the electrolyte 31.
- the surface acoustic waves excited in the side wall 81 couple partly into the intermediate layer 51 at the Rayleigh angle (mode conversion) and then vice versa again into the electrode 11, wherein surface waves 6 'are also excited in the electrode 11.
- the excited surface wave 6 thus decouples into the intermediate layer 51 and in the intermediate layer 51 produces as it were a volume sound wave (small arrows), which in turn can be coupled into the first electrode 11 in order to again generate a surface acoustic wave 6 'there.
- volume sound wave 7 Due to the interaction of the sound wave (volume sound wave 7) with the diffusion boundary layer 311, the chemical reactions taking place there are positively influenced. Once the surface acoustic wave 6 'has been coupled out into the electrolyte 31, the sound wave (volume sound wave 7) is coupled in again into the second electrode 12, which again generates the excitation of surface waves 6 "there.
- FIG. 2 shows the current-voltage curve of an arrangement comparable to FIG. 1 in comparison with a standard arrangement (without generation of surface acoustic waves).
- the experimental set-up consisted of a Cu / Au electropolishing cell in which material was to be removed from a copper plate by applying a DC voltage.
- the copper acted here as an anode (corresponds to electrode 11 in FIG. 1 )
- the cathode consisted of a pure gold plate (corresponds to electrode 12 in FIG. 1 ).
- the polishing cell itself is a beaker in which a copper sheet has been attached to the inner bottom. At about 1 cm from the copper sheet, a gold sheet was positioned parallel to the copper sheet.
- the electrolyte 31 was a solution of nitric acid (65%) and methanol in a mixing ratio of 1: 2, which is filled in the beaker, so that the gold sheet is covered with it.
- an interdigital transducer 4 was glued, with which surface waves. 6 were generated.
- the interdigital transducer 4 was in this case driven by a continuous signal with a voltage of 100 V peak-to-peak and a frequency of 1 MHz.
- FIG. 2 shows the course of an electropolishing curve with and without ultrasound entry (SAW).
- SAW ultrasound entry
- FIG. 3 shows a current-voltage curve in a Elektropolier bath upon excitation of surface acoustic waves 6 via an externally attached to the reaction vessel 8 interdigital transducer 4.
- the illustrated current-voltage characteristic over the duration of a complete Elektropolier baths also again shows that by stimulating surface acoustic waves 6, the power consumption can be increased can.
- FIG. 4 describes an embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention. Another alternative is the excitation of surface waves 6 directly on the first electrode surface 11 as shown in FIG FIG. 4 is shown schematically. Here, the surface waves 6 are generated in a region of the electrode 11 which is not in contact with the fluid (here in the form of an electrolyte 31). However, it is also conceivable that the interdigital transducer 4 used to generate the surface waves 6 is arranged elsewhere on the electrode 11.
- the electrode 11, on which the surface waves 6 run depends in this case freely and, for example, attached only via a clamping connection to the reaction vessel 8 in the electrolyte 31. It is for example not attached to the bottom of the reaction vessel 8.

Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for influencing the kinetics of chemical reactions by means of surface acoustic waves according to
This gradient is the driving force for the subsequent delivery of further electrochemically active particles to the electrode and determines the rate at which the reaction proceeds.

The problem underlying the invention is to provide an arrangement and a method which make it possible to influence chemical reactions in the simplest and most effective manner possible.
This problem is solved by the arrangement with the features of
- a reaction vessel in which at least one active surface, which is at least partially in contact with a fluid, is arranged,
- Means for generating surface acoustic waves in the at least one active surface, wherein at least a portion of the surface waves excited in the at least one active surface are converted into volume sound waves within the fluid, so that
- a chemical reaction preceding the at least one active surface or a physical process occurring there is influenced, in particular accelerated, by the surface waves in the at least one active surface and / or by the volume sound waves in the fluid.
In particular, the means for generating surface waves comprise an acoustic transducer which converts an electrical signal into vibrations which are transmitted to the active surface. By way of example, the converter is an interdigital transducer with which, for example, surface acoustic waves can also be excited in active areas made of a non-piezoelectric material. By sound input into the fluid in the form of an electrolyte, which is explained below by the conversion of surface acoustic waves in volume sound waves, at the interface between the active surface and the fluid "energy hotspots" arise in which various phenomena occur, the expiring can affect chemical reaction. This is on the one hand the effect of "Acoustic streaming", on the other hand turbulent convection, cavitation and microflow. Due to the mentioned effects, an increased mass transport could be detected experimentally, which can be justified by a thinning of the above-described Nernst diffusion layer.
- der Stoffumsatz wird bedingt durch die erhöhte Durchmischung und die ultraschallbedingte Bildung von Radikalen ebenfalls erhöht;
- die Reaktionsmechanismen an der aktiven Fläche werden verändert;
- es entsteht eine geringere Überspannung an der aktiven Fläche;
- es kann eine erhöhte Oberflächenaktivierung der aktiven Fläche auftreten;
- the mass transfer and heat exchange is increased, the diffusion processes taking place at the active surface are accelerated
- the turnover is also increased due to the increased mixing and the ultrasound-induced formation of radicals;
- the reaction mechanisms on the active surface are changed;
- it creates a lower overvoltage on the active surface;
- there may be an increased surface activation of the active area;
- By ultrasound, emulsions of immiscible systems can be generated
In addition, e.g. In the field of electroplating thickness, quality and rate of metal deposition can be increased. Also, the cathodic efficiency can be increased because the hydrogen bubbles or the formation of oxide layers on the active surface decreases. There are also applications in organic chemistry, e.g. in the electrosynthesis of various organic compounds.
Another field of application of the arrangement according to the invention is polymer chemistry. There, an improved emulsion of substances needed for polymerization reactions can be achieved. Furthermore, the Formation of thin polymer films on the active surface are prevented (eg on an electrode surface), which influence the further electrode reaction.
Furthermore, when using the arrangement according to the invention, the catalytic activity could be increased during a reaction.
With the aid of the arrangement according to the invention, it is in particular possible to influence reactions which do not take place directly on a piezoelectric substrate of an acoustic transducer. Rather, the transducer can be externally mounted (fixed) on the active surface in the form of an electrode, which may also consist of a non-piezoelectric material, and surface waves are generated in the active surface. With this technique, it is possible to produce surface acoustic waves on non-piezoelectric substrates via piezoelectric interdigital transducers externally applied to the substrate, whereby it is possible to excite surface acoustic waves in almost all technical substrates (metals, glass, plastics, ceramics).
The type of surface waves excited in the active area depends in particular on the thickness of the substrates used and the acoustic wavelength. For example, surface waves of the Rayleigh-wave type can be excited, in particular with thick substrates, i. if the substrate thickness (the thickness of the active area) is greater than the acoustic wavelength. Surface waves of the lamb wave type can be excited with thin substrates, wherein the substrate thickness must be smaller than the acoustic wavelength.
Once the above conditions are met, at least a portion of the energy of the surface acoustic waves generated by a transmitter, such as an interdigital transducer, is converted to bulk waves within the fluid (mode conversion). The bulk waves are thus radiated into the liquid at the Rayleigh angle, thereby reducing the energy of the remaining surface acoustic wave.
This effect is combined with the ability of the surface waves to generate flows in liquids for the method according to the invention. In a combination of both effects, the kinetics of chemical processes are changed by the method according to the invention without having to intervene directly in the process via introduced components or the electronics coming into direct contact with the chemically active substances.
The problem with the known systems is that the sound transducers which generate the surface waves, including the associated electronics with the chemically active substances come into direct contact or any built-in parts interfere with the experimental setup.
It thus eliminates the need to provide on the active surface a coating with catalyst substances. Therefore, the disadvantage associated with a coating can also be reduced or eliminated, that the reaction which it has to influence via surface waves must take place directly in the vicinity or on the piezoelectric substrate and thus the complete experimental design and the reaction parameters to the geometry of the piezoelectric interdigital transducer must be adjusted. Already existing test procedures and abutments can not be influenced by this method without a massive change of the complete experimental setup.
In addition, the time required to produce the selective catalytic layer can be eliminated. Accordingly, there is no need for regular renewal of the catalytic protective layer.
An "active surface" is to be understood in particular as meaning the surface of a solid (for example of metal, glass, plastic, ceramic) on or in whose immediate vicinity a chemical reaction or a physical process takes place and / or is excited or influenced can.
Metalle handeln. In this case, for example, substances in the course of the chemical reaction can deposit on the active surface or the active surface can be consumed in the course of the chemical reaction. The fluid disposed within the reaction vessel may be, for example, gases, but also liquids which may contain dissolved organic or inorganic substances (such as salts). Such liquids would be, for example, water, ammonia, THF, acetone, acetonitrile, DMSO, hexane, toluene or benzene. Alternatively, the fluid may also be a melt of organic or inorganic substances or metals.
In particular, the reaction vessel has a bottom, wherein an opening for filling in the fluid is present in relation to the bottom. From the bottom of a side wall of the reaction vessel from which, together with the bottom of an inner volume of the Reaction vessel limited. The active surface is located, for example, at least partially in the inner volume of the reaction vessel.
The arrangement for performing a chemical reaction further comprises a means for generating surface acoustic waves, which is suitable to excite surface acoustic waves within the at least one active surface, wherein at least a portion of the surface waves excited in the at least one active surface are transformed into bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves ) is converted within the fluid.
This ensures that a chemical reaction preceding the at least one active surface or a preceding physical process are influenced by the surface waves in the at least one active surface and / or by the volume sound waves in the fluid. In particular, this increases the reaction rate. An increased mass transfer or heat exchange or increased mixing or a change in the reaction mechanisms are possible, for example.
According to the invention, the means for generating surface acoustic waves comprise at least one transmitter. In this case, the transmitter is designed in particular in the form of an interdigital transducer.
It is also conceivable that an electrically insulating substrate extends on the side facing the reaction vessel (the mounting side) of the at least one active surface. In particular, the substrate may be formed in the form of a portion of a wall of the reaction vessel.
It is also possible for an intermediate layer to be arranged between the substrate and the at least one active surface, via which at least part of the surface wave excited in the substrate couples into the at least one active surface.
The active surface is partially in contact with the fluid, and the surface acoustic wave generating means is disposed on the active surface in the region which is not in contact with the fluid.
In a further embodiment of the invention, a temperature control means is arranged on the reaction vessel, which is suitable for increasing or decreasing the temperature of the at least one active surface and / or of the fluid.
This can be done, for example, by providing a cavity within the active area, by means of which a coolant is introduced through the active area via a cooling circulation system and thus the active area is cooled. It is also possible for the fluid to undergo an increase in temperature directly, for example by means of an immersion heater or indirectly by means of oil or water baths, which first heat the reaction vessel and thus indirectly the fluid receives a temperature increase via heat conduction. It can also be a comparable cooling of the fluid through an ice or dry ice bath or for example by means of an acetone-ether mixture, which is cooled by means of liquid nitrogen to a low temperature range, take place.
Vakuumpumpen erfolgen.Alternatively or additionally, it may be provided that the reaction vessel is disposed within a housing, wherein on the housing, a pressure control means is provided, which is adapted to set a pressure within the housing or within the reaction vessel above or below the atmospheric pressure. This can be done for example by means of conventional high-pressure pumps or vacuum pumps.
According to the invention, a second active surface is arranged inside the reaction vessel, wherein the fluid is arranged between the first and the second active surface. The means for generating surface acoustic waves in the first and / or the second active surface excite surface acoustic waves, wherein at least a part of the surface waves excited in the first and / or the second active surface are reflected in bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves) in the one between the two active surface fluid is converted.
Thereby, a chemical reaction preceding the first and / or second active surface or a preceding physical process by the surface waves in the first and / or the second active surface and / or influenced by the volume sound waves in the fluid. In particular, the chemical reaction or the physical process is accelerated.
The first and second active surfaces are each formed as an electrode, which are connected to each other via voltage sources. In addition, the fluid is formed as an electrolyte. In this case, the means for generating surface acoustic waves in the first and / or the second electrode generates surface acoustic waves, wherein at least part of the surface waves applied in the first and / or the second electrode are in bulk acoustic waves (volume sound waves) in the electrolyte located between the electrodes is converted. As a result, a chemical reaction in the electrolyte is influenced by the surface waves in the first and / or the second electrode and / or the volume sound waves in the electrolyte. In particular, the chemical reaction is accelerated.
In this case, the means for generating surface acoustic waves comprise at least one transmitter, as mentioned, in particular in the form of an interdigital transducer. In an alternative embodiment, the transmitter is arranged on a side of the first electrode facing away from the electrolyte.
In a further arrangement, an electrically insulating substrate may extend on a side of the first electrode facing away from the electrolyte. In this case, the electrically insulating substrate may be provided in particular in the form of a portion of a wall of a reaction vessel.

In the method according to the invention, surface acoustic waves are transmitted directly to the chemically active surface (an electrode), where they specifically influence the reaction. Ideally, the sound is introduced into the reaction system from the outside, so that the sound transducers which generate the surface waves, including the associated electronics, do not come into direct contact with the chemically active substances or any built-in components impair the experimental setup. The process according to the invention is intended to be used primarily in electrochemical processes, but is also suitable for other chemical reaction processes. Furthermore, the method is flexibly adaptable to different experimental setups, so that existing chemical plants can remain unchanged.

- a chemical reaction occurring in the fluid or a preceding physical process is affected by the surface waves in the first active area and / or the volume sound waves in the fluid. In particular, the speeds can be increased.
- Applying a voltage to the first and second electrodes.
In the method according to the invention, surface acoustic waves are transmitted directly to the chemically active surface (an electrode) in order to specifically influence the reaction there. The sound is ideally from the outside into the reaction system introduced, so that the sound transducer, which generate the surface waves including the associated electronics does not come into direct contact with the chemically active substances or affect any built-in parts of the experimental setup.
In particular, by the ability of the surface waves to decouple in contact with liquids as a bulk wave and vice versa when impinging on solid substrates and re-generate a surface wave there, it is possible to transfer the sound directly to one or more chemically active surfaces. It is not necessary, as in most sonokinetic methods, to introduce a sonotrode into the medium, but instead a piezoelectric interdigital transducer is applied to the outside of the electrode, which generates the surface waves there. Use with gases is also possible.
The new in the inventive method and the arrangement according to the invention consists on the one hand, that the sound irradiation in the reaction system does not happen via introduced into the system components (eg sonotrodes), but the sound on the outside of the system directly to the electrode attached special piezoelectric Interdigital transducers, which stimulate surface acoustic waves, happens. That is, an internal reaction can be influenced via an externally mounted component, which could already be shown in individual experiments by a strong increase in the reaction rate, as already explained above.
Furthermore, the sound irradiation is not diffusely directed to the electrode or other chemically active surface, as is the case with an ultrasonic horn; Rather, the sound is directed directly to the electrode, in particular via effects such as mode conversion and reverse mode conversion, where again a surface wave is generated. These effects make it possible to influence the processes taking place directly at the electrode and thus to act specifically where boundary layers limiting transport of substances or similar phenomena are formed.
In the method according to the invention and the arrangement according to the invention, however, a simple piezoelectric component together with associated drive electronics is also applied to non-piezoelectric substrates, and surface waves are excited on these substrates and thus reactions which take place outside the piezoelectric substrate are influenced.
In the method and the arrangement according to the invention, e.g. No changes to existing experimental setups or chemical processing equipment necessary, since as means for generating the surface acoustic waves, a piezoelectric interdigital transducer can be used, which can be attached to the system "from the outside". Thus, no additional components must be introduced into the reaction system, which significantly minimizes problems with chemical resistance of the components or special adaptations of the component to the geometry of the experimental setup (so that the reaction is not disturbed by the component).
Furthermore, the method according to the invention has the advantage that it can be flexibly adapted to different constructions and furthermore it is not fixed to a very specific area of chemistry or a very specific chemical process but can be applied in a variety of ways. The same is true for the arrangement according to the invention.
Consequently, in a simple manner, a chemical reaction or a physical process within a reaction vessel is influenced, in particular accelerated, by targeted excitation of surface acoustic waves within at least one or more active surfaces and / or volume sound waves generated in a fluid. It is not necessary that the means for generating surface acoustic waves within the reaction vessel, in particular within the reaction fluid must be attached. This avoids that the means for generating surface acoustic waves is attacked by particularly aggressive chemical processes or such built-in parts affect the experimental design.
In particular, the arrangement according to the invention and the method according to the invention are characterized in that a targeted and controlled excitation of the active surfaces by means of surface acoustic waves, for example, a better influence on the chemical reactions allows as a "sonication" over a wide area by means of, for example, an ultrasonic horn. Furthermore, the significantly lower space requirement of the device according to the invention and the method according to the invention makes no or only a slight change in one already possible known experimental setup.
- Elektrochemie (z.B. Galvanotechnik, Akkumulatorindustrie usw.)
- Technische Chemie (Prozessoptimierung)
- Organische Chemie (z.B. Synthese organischer Substanzen)
- Electrochemistry (eg electroplating, accumulator industry etc.)
- Technical Chemistry (Process Optimization)
- Organic chemistry (eg synthesis of organic substances)
The process can be flexibly adapted to different experimental setups so that existing chemical plants can essentially remain unchanged.

About the
With the
The surface acoustic waves excited in the
At the boundary layer between the
Due to the interaction of the sound wave (volume sound wave 7) with the
On the bottom of the beaker (on the opposite beaker wall as the Cu sheet) an

- 5: Nachdem I bei
- 7: Nachdem I auf
etwa 1,9 A abgefallen ist, wird derWandler 4 ein drittes Mal eingeschaltet, woraufI bis auf 2,35 A ansteigt. - 8:
- 1/2: First, a gradual increase in voltage takes place up to the time at which the current intensity remains relatively constant during voltage increase and a uniform material removal takes place from the copper and a yellow-green diffusion boundary layer forms above the Cu.
- 3: At a voltage of 2.2 V, a tough yellow-green boundary layer covers almost all of the Cu. The current value settles at a constant value of 0.82 A after a brief increase as the voltage is increased to 2.2 V. After I remains at 0.82 A, the
interdigital transducer 4 is first turned on at the bottom of the beaker. - 4: During converter operation, the current increases from 0.82 A to 1.90 A. After the
converter 4 has been put into operation, a visible strong reaction in the beaker can also be detected macroscopically. For example, small air bubbles increase from the Cu. At 1.90 A, theconverter 4 is turned off, I initially but still further increases to 2.2 A and begins to decelerate again delayed, ie even after switching off theconverter 4, the increased response is still on. In this case, however, I no longer returns to the value of 0.82 A, at which the current strength was before the first converter operation, but is leveled at around 1.6 A. - 5: After I remains at about 1.6 A and does not decrease further, the
interdigital transducer 4 is turned on again, whereupon the current increases to 1.96 A. - 6: After switching off the
converter 4 again shows that the reaction continues even more in retrospect and the current rises above 2 A and only delayed begins to decline again. - 7: After I has fallen to about 1.9 A, the
converter 4 is turned on a third time, whereupon I rises up to 2.35 A. - 8: At 2.35 A, the
converter 4 was switched off again and also in this case, the amplified reaction continued even after switching off theconverter 4 and I increases up to 2.45 A. Thereafter, I begins to sink sharply, as the Cu is almost completely eroded. - 9: Another attempt to turn on the
transducer 4 at 0.55 A again has no effect, since the Cu is now completely removed.
It should be noted that after decoupling the surface
The plate 100 together with the
It is also possible that the plate 100 extends beyond the curvature of the
