Description

Gebiet der ErfindungField of the invention

The present invention relates generally to the field of controlling operating parameters of lighting apparatus such as LED, gas discharge lamps or halogen lamps. In particular, the invention can be applied in the field of so-called retrofit LED lamps, which are substituted for e.g. used by incandescent or halogen lamps. Retrofit lamps accordingly have connection pedestals with which they are incorporated into known lamp holders, e.g. screwed or plugged, can be.

In the following, "LED" is also understood to mean "OLED".

Hintergrund der ErfindungBackground of the invention

In the following, the invention is described above all with regard to retrofit lamps, in particular retrofit LED lamps. However, it is to be understood that other, appropriately designed operating devices for lighting means should be included.

For retrofit lamps, it is important that they essentially reproduce the functionalities known from incandescent lamps. One of these known functionalities is the dimming function. Conventionally, a Dimming is performed as a phase dimming, which brings in particular when using retrofit LED lamps various problems.

In common LED lamps, dimming is usually done via separate control lines by transmitting dimming information, e.g. a dimming level value, to the LED lamp. In the retrofit area, this is not possible, since already the necessary control lines are not available, but there is only a two-wire connection to the lamp.

Are known lamps that can be switched by certain on / off sequences of a power or operating voltage in two discrete light modes. Such a lamp according to the prior art can be switched by simply turning it into a first lighting mode, in which the lamp is operated until it is switched off at full power. By a series of successive on / off operations, e.g. On-Off On, the lamp can be switched to a second lighting mode in which the lamp is e.g. is operated with a predetermined lower power, ie dimmed. Switching off brings the lamp back to the initial state, from which again either the first or the second lighting mode can be selected.

This functionality is also known by the term "double click", in which the lamp evaluates fast, repeated (for example two times) switching on and off of the operating voltage as information, in particular as dimming information. With a two-fold fast switching on and off of the operating voltage evaluates the ballast electronics of the bulb so to the effect that the lamp with reduced power (dimmed) is operated. In the known lamps, however, only two predetermined light modes are available and the user can only choose between these light modes (eg 100% power or 80% power). If a dimming to another level is desired, then another lamp must be selected and / or the lamp replaced.

Aufgabe der ErfindungObject of the invention

The object of the invention is thus to provide an alternative control method for lighting means such as, for example, for LED lamps and in particular, but not exclusively, retrofit LED lamps without the disadvantages described above.

This object is achieved by the features of the independent claims. The dependent claims further develop the central idea of the invention.

Instead of the lighting means 15, another operating means can also be used which generates an optical or acoustic emission.

The operating device 10 comprises a manipulation sequence detector 11, e.g. a switching sequence detector, a modulator 12, a memory 13 and a power converter 14. The lighting means 15 can be connected either directly or via conductor 16 to the operating device 10. The LED 15 is driven via the power converter 14, which is clocked at high frequency.

The power converter 14 may be formed by a switching regulator and has at least one power switch, which is clocked at high frequency. The power converter 14 can be, for example, an inverter (buck-boost converter), a buck converter (buck converter), an isolating flyback converter (flyback converter) or else an insulated or non-isolated half-bridge converter.

The power converter 14, shown schematically as a block, may be single-stage or multi-stage. One or more stages may be actively clocked by one or more switches by one or more switches. An example of a multi-stage design is a two-stage design in which the first stage is an actively clocked PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit that provides a DC output voltage, which is preferably regulated. The DC output voltage of the PFC circuit supplies a second converter stage as intermediate circuit voltage or bus voltage, which is a DC / DC converter (for example in the case of LEDs as lamps) or a DC / AC converter (for example an inverter in the case of LEDs) of gas discharge lamps). Likewise, the second converter stage can also be actively clocked by one or more switches. For example. For example, the second stage may be a PWM (Pulse Width) modulator.

The manipulation sequence detector 11 is configured to recognize manipulation sequences or switching sequences which are generated by the switching on / off of the switching element 3. The manipulation sequence detector 11 monitors criteria such as time constants and / or repetition rates in order to discriminate different sequences.

The manipulation sequence detector 11 can be combined with a circuit that is already used in so-called emergency lighting devices in order to detect an emergency light case, which now has no DC voltage but a DC voltage as the supply voltage for the operating device.

Such a circuit is known from the DE 10 2007 040555 A1 , the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference.

On the one hand, therefore, such an AC / DC detection circuit can be used to implement solely the function of detecting the manipulation sequence. As an exemplary embodiment, the operating device is an emergency lighting device in which an AC / DC detection circuit is used both for detecting the AC / DC voltage and for detecting the temporary (not replaced by DC) switching off the AC supply.

The manipulation sequence detector 11 is connected to the modulator 12 and the memory 13. The modulator 12 is connected to the memory 13 and the power converter 14.

The modulator 12 is adapted to provide an operating parameter, e.g. a voltage for the lighting means 15 between a first value, e.g. a first dimming level, and a second value, e.g. a second dimming level, or to operate the power converter 14 with values between the first value and the second value or at these values. These values are converted by the power converter 14 such that the lighting means 15 connected to the power converter 14 generates a desired emission which lies between or the first and the second value or thereupon. In particular, the operating parameter influences the timing, for example the frequency or the duty cycle of the power converter 14.

The operating parameter, in the case of the multi-stage embodiment of the power converter, the timing of the / the switch be one of the stages or several stages. For example. For example, the operating parameter may be the timing of the switch of a PFC circuit (as first or only stage), wherein preferably the timing changes the DC output voltage of the PFC circuit, which preferably has an influence on the light output of the lamps (dimming over amplitude). However, this dimmability can also be achieved by other dimming techniques or, if appropriate, combined with further dimming techniques of a further stage, such as PWM dimming (preferably for LEDs) or dimming via the frequency in the case of a half-bridge converter (for example for LEDs).

In one embodiment, the first value corresponds to 100% of the possible emission, e.g. 100% light emission, and the second value to a much lower percentage of the possible emission, e.g. a dimming to 5% light emission. However, for the first and second values, all values from 0-100% of the possible emission can be selected.

It is also possible for the modulator 12 to detect a change in the values at the second value, e.g. at the second dimming level, begins.

The modulator 12 may be further configured to cyclically change the operating parameter between the first and second values, thereby causing a continuous change in emission.

The modulator 12 may be further configured to cyclically change the operating parameter between the first and second values, with the first value again being reached at the end of the cyclic change, which may also be repeated several times. This way you can be sure be that an unwanted or faulty triggering of the cyclic change without influence on the continuous operation remains.

The memory 13 is connected to the manipulation sequence detector 11, the modulator 12, and the power converter 14. A value can be stored in it which indicates the current value for the operating parameter, e.g. a dimming level for a lighting means 15. With this value it can be determined how the power converter 14 operates the lighting means 15, i. which emission is to be set on the illuminant 15.

The operating parameter set by the manipulation of the power supply of the operating device by a user may also constitute a mode selection so that one of at least two modes of operation may be selected. Preferably, the plurality of operating modes are already stored in advance (for example, by the manufacturer) in the operating device.

In this case, for example, by the manufacturer set default setting ("Default Setting") are present, i. in the case of a standard run-up (without a user-selected operating mode), the operating device (preferably in terms of software), for example, is configured such that it responds to a (light) sensor ("sensor mode"), ie. Depending on the output signal of the sensor, the mode of operation of the lighting means changed, in particular their brightness or light output adapts.

On the other hand, if the user selects a mode of operation by a particular sequence (as described) by voltage manipulation generated, the system changes into a mode deviating from the basic mode, called "User Mode". This user mode can be an operating mode in which the lamps are operated with constant power.

The user can thus choose between an operating mode in which the operating device dims the lamps, and a operating bit, in which the lamps are always operated at a constant power ("fixed output").

It may also be contemplated that the user may selectively activate or deactivate certain operating blocks (e.g., heating the filaments of a gas discharge lamp) in one of the operating modes through said supply voltage manipulation of the operating device. Thus, if necessary, different energy efficiency levels can be selected.

Fig. 2):
This invention now allows, for example, a dynamic dimming according to the following principle (see. Fig. 2 ):
The switching element 3, for example, the power switch, is actuated to turn on the lamp or the operating device according to the invention and cause a light emission to the light source.

This switching on is detected by the manipulation sequence detector 11. If no further action takes place within a certain time after the voltage has been switched on, the switching on of the manipulation sequence detector 11 becomes, for example, normal switching on (normal on, Fig. 2 above) and the light source is operated at a predetermined power value, eg 100% power. This can eg also be done so that in the memory 13, a certain default value (default) is present, which corresponds to the predetermined power value.

However, after switching on, within the specified time, another switching action, e.g. another switching on and off (sequence), this is also detected by the manipulation sequence detector 11 and interpreted as an instruction to switch to a dimming mode. If the manipulation sequence detector 11 detects the instruction to change to the dimming mode, it instructs the modulator 12 to cyclically control the power converter 14 with values between the first and the second dimming level. This has the consequence that the light emission at the light source is changed continuously (upward and downward dimming).

Typical time constants for the downward or upward dimming flank are in the range of a few seconds, for example 2 to 10 seconds.

The predetermined time may be a threshold, which is usually well below one second. Thus, after the quick restart, the operating device cyclically dimming from the nominal value 100% to a minimum dimming value of, for example, 5% and then dimming again upwards (see FIG Fig. 2 below).

This cyclic downward and upward dimming is repeated until the user manually sets the actual value manually by renewed rapid switching off and on (sequence) of the voltage supply, so to speak, freezes.

In this case, a further switching sequence is detected by the manipulation sequence detector 11. Subsequently, the instantaneous modulation value is stored in the memory 13 and the light source is operated by the power converter 14 with the modulation value, with correspondingly reduced light emission. The further off / on sequence may correspond to or be different from the first switching sequence.

After switching off the voltage for a further predetermined period of time, in one embodiment the operating device is reset to an initial state (in memory 13, for example, the default value is set).

The memory 13 may also be arranged outside of the operating device 10. For example, the operating device 10 may be connected via an interface with the memory 13 arranged outside the operating device 10. Thus, it may also be possible that when replacing the operating device 10, the memory 13 is connected to the newly inserted operating device and the stored in the memory 13 modulation value is transmitted back to the newly used operating device. The memory 13 may be arranged, for example, in a sensor connected to the operating device 10.

If a sensor is connected to the operating device 10 and a memory 13 is present, different modulation values can also be stored or also programmed in the memory 13 for different sensor values such as, for example, brightness values in the case of a light sensor. Thus, according to one embodiment, different values of the sensor (for example brightness values) can also be different by the method according to the invention (ie a manipulation sequence) Modulation values are stored in the memory and these specify as a kind of reference table the respective modulation value for the power converter 14.

But it can also be provided to restore the Ausganszustand by executing a reset sequence. Thus, the set operating parameter value (e.g., the dimming level) may also be kept above a normal off (normal off). Only after executing the reset sequence is the initial state restored.

The invention is to be distinguished from the Switch-Dim (TRIDONIC®) or Touch-Dim technology in that the information, i. the manual actuation of a switch takes place directly via the power supply. In the case of touch dim or switch dim, the dimming information is preferably supplied from a pushbutton or switch via a signal input of the operating device (the actual voltage supply is independent of this).

The electronics required for the implementation of the invention, which discriminates the rapid switching on and off of the normal switching on and off, is preferably housed in the base region of the lamp (or the retrofit LED lamp).

Furthermore, an energy buffer can be provided, for example a capacitor which bridges at least one "power failure", a switch-off, in the area of rapid on / off switching, so that the electronics can evaluate the switching sequence.

Thus, the user can set this setting by executing the second switching sequence at the time when a dimming setting desired by him is present.

The sensory reproduction does not necessarily have to be done by the lamps themselves (color temperature change, dimming, etc.), but can also be done by other elements (other optical elements, acoustic elements, etc.).

Thus, different operating parameter changes can take place by manipulations of the voltage supply, wherein these can be discriminated, for example, on the basis of different manipulation criteria (manipulation or switching sequences).

Alternatively, also different operating parameter changes can alternate cyclically, so that, for example, a first manipulation sequence (double-click) changes a cyclic first operating parameter change, e.g. a dimming value change, which is then replaced by a second operating parameter change, e.g. a color location change in the next double click, etc.

Further, it is possible to use another mode of operation, e.g. the dimming mode to be selected from the on state by a manipulation sequence (e.g., off-on or off-on-off on, in rapid succession, i.e. within a predetermined period of time).

Especially when using several lamps on a power supply, it is important that all lamps are operated with the same modulation values, eg at the same dimming level, ie an equal (light) emission value respectively. Normally different lamps will have a randomly distributed and therefore different time base. Thus, the bulbs behave differently in the modulation phase, resulting in a non-uniform light image.

According to the invention, any change in operating parameters (for example, down / up dimming) now takes place using an AC voltage, e.g. the mains voltage, as a time base. Preferably, the zero crossings of the voltage are the time base used to synchronize the operating parameter change.

More specifically, the gradient and thus also the time duration between the operating parameter values to be set, or the dimming levels, is defined to a predetermined number of voltage cycles, and not over an absolute time duration such as "10 seconds". This is in Fig. 3 illustrated. In the upper part of Fig. 3 Voltage cycles are shown. In the lower part of the Fig. 3 Fig. 2 shows how the operating parameter change (down and up dimming steps) is generated depending on the voltage cycles.

As already mentioned, the invention has been described above all with regard to LED lamps, in particular retrofit LED lamps. However, it is to be understood that the invention can also be applied to appropriately designed operating devices for other lamps.
