- Apparatus for automatic loading of a book cover magazine (2) of a book production line, with a feed device (4), arranged upstream of the book cover magazine (2), transporting book covers (3) in a transport direction (7) to the book cover magazine (2), and with a separating device (15) for book covers (3) present in the book cover magazine (2), wherein the book cover magazine (2) has a magazine bottom (12) for stacking book covers (3), bounding the book cover magazine (2) underneath and forming a substantially horizontal plane, and wherein a pick-off element (5) forming a further substantially horizontal plane is insertable into the book cover magazine (2) in a region between the feed device (4) and the magazine bottom (12), characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is located at or below the level of the magazine bottom (12) when the book cover magazine (2) is filled with book covers (3).
- Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that the magazine bottom (12) has at least one recess (26) in which a substantially horizontally orientated pick-off element (5) is arranged so as to be vertically positionable substantially parallel with the plane of the magazine bottom (12).
- Apparatus according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is arranged centrally in the book cover magazine (2) as viewed from above and at right angles to the transport direction (7).
- Apparatus according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) can be raised to a predetermined level in the book cover magazine (2) by means of a lifting device (23).
- Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is mounted insertably on the lifting device (23).
- Apparatus according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that a drive (25) of the pick-off element (5) is intermittently operable so as to generate a kind of jogging motion.
- Apparatus according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is connected to a vibration element (24).

- Method according to Claim 9, characterized in that insertion of the pick-off element (5) into the book cover magazine (2) is effected before book covers (3) are fed to the book cover magazine (2).
- Method according to Claim 9 or Claim 10, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is withdrawn again from the book cover magazine (2) after at least one book cover (3) is fed.
- Method according to any one of Claims 9 to 11, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is inserted substantially vertically into the book cover magazine (2) and withdrawn substantially vertically from the book cover magazine (2).
- Method according to any one of Claims 9 to 12, characterized in that the pick-off element (5) is vibrated during its insertion into the book cover magazine (2).
