Claims (16)
- A road system apparatus for a manhole cover comprising at least one cover (2) mounted articulated so as to tilt to the side (3) of the support frame (1) by at least one articulating hinge (4) between a position closing the support frame (1) and an approximately vertical upright position opening that frame, and for each cover (2), a safety device comprising a self-locking arm (16) whereof one end is mounted pivotably to the side (3) of the frame (1) around a pivot axis (9) and the other end is connected to the cover (2) by an axis (18) secured to the cover (2) and mounted sliding in a longitudinal oblong aperture (19) of the self-locking arm (16) so as to allow the rotational driving of that arm around its pivot axis (9) during the tilting of the cover (2) between its open and closed positions and to automatically lock the cover (2) in its upright open position, characterized in that the axis (18) connecting the self-locking arm (16) to the cover (2) comprises two adjacent cylindrical parts respectively with a smaller diameter (22) and a larger diameter (23) and is axially movable relative to the cover (2) under the action of an elastic member (27) that biases the part with the smaller diameter (22) of the connecting axis (18) to engage slidingly in the oblong aperture (19) of the self-locking arm (16) during the tilting of the cover (2) between its two open and closed positions and the part with the larger diameter (23) of the connecting axis (18) to engage locked in a circular orifice (19a) of the end of the self-locking arm (16) in the extension of the oblong aperture (19) of that arm when the cover (2) is brought to its upright open position.

- The apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that the connecting axis (18) is axially slidingly supported by a yoke (14) of the cover (2) and an end part of which protruding from one side of the yoke (14) includes the two adjacent cylindrical parts with different diameters (22, 23).
- The apparatus according to claim 4, characterized in that the connecting axis (18) is mounted axially sliding in a sheath (20) secured to the yoke (14) of the cover (2) and whereof an end part (20a) situated on the same side as the two adjacent cylindrical parts (22, 23) is able to receive the cylindrical part with the smaller diameter (22) of the connecting axis (18) when its part with a larger diameter (23) is engaged in the circular orifice (19a) of the self-locking arm (16) with the connecting shoulder (29) between those two cylindrical parts (22, 23) abutting on the free end of the end part (20a) of the sheath (20) under the action of the elastic member (27).
- The apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that the self-locking arm (16) rotates around its pivot axis (9) between the shoulder (29) and the free end of the protruding end part (20a) of the sheath (20).
- The apparatus according to claim 5 or 6, characterized in that the sheath (20) is fastened to the yoke (14) by a nut (21) engaged on an outwardly threaded part of the protruding end part (20a) of the sheath (20) and a head (20b) secured to the opposite end of the sheath (20) and bearing on the corresponding branch (14a) of the yoke (14).
- The apparatus according to one of claims 5 to 7, characterized in that the elastic member (27) is a helical compression spring mounted coaxially around an end part of the connecting axis (18) protruding from the yoke (14) opposite the end part of that axis including the two cylindrical parts with different diameters (22, 23) and which is pre-stressed between the sheath (20) and a nut (30) fastened to the free end of the corresponding end part of the connecting axis (18).
- The apparatus according to claim 5 or 6, characterized in that the sheath (20) is fixed to the yoke (14) by two nuts (46, 47) secured to an outwardly threaded part of the sheath (20) and gripping the branch (14a) of the yoke (14) opposite the other branch (14a) adjacent to the self-locking arm (16).
- The apparatus according to claim 9, characterized in that the elastic member (27) is a helical compression spring mounted coaxially around an end part of the connecting axis (18) protruding from the yoke (14) opposite the end part of that axis including the two cylindrical parts with different diameters (22, 23) and which is pre-stressed between one (47) of the nuts fixing the sheath (20) to the branch (14a) of the yoke (14) and a nut (30) fixed to the free end of the corresponding end part of the connecting axis (18).
- The apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a gripping handle (26) secured to the end of the connecting axis (18) and making it possible to exert a pulling force on that axis to free the part with the larger diameter (23) from the circular orifice (19a) of the self-locking arm (16).
- The apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the connecting axis (18) is parallel to the pivot axis (9) of the self-locking arm (16) on the side (3) of the frame (1) and the pivot axis (9) of that arm is positioned below the hinge (4) articulating the cover (2) to the frame (1).
- The apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises at least one jack (7) assisting with opening of the cover (2) and mounted pivoting on the one hand to the side (3) of the frame (1) on the same pivot axis (9) of that self-locking arm (16) and on the other hand to the cover (2) on an axis coaxial to the connecting axis (18).
- The apparatus according to claim 13 when considered in combination with claim 5, characterized in that the assistance jack (7) is mounted pivoting around the sheath (20) between the two branches (14a) of the yoke (14).
- The apparatus according to one of claims 2 to 14, characterized in that it comprises means (40, 42, 43, 44, 45) secured to the cover (2) and able to laterally maintain the self-locking arm (16) when the part with the larger diameter (23) of the connecting axis (18) is released from the circular orifice (19a) of the arm (16).
- The apparatus according to one of claims 5 to 15, characterized in that it comprises a rigid assistance tag (50) secured to the sheath (20) perpendicular thereto.
