Doppelkomplex-Salze als Absorber in OSC/OPV-Vorrichtungen Double complex salts as absorbers in OSC / OPV devices
The present invention relates to double-complex salts in opto-electronic components and, in particular, oligomers formed from charged metal complexes for use in OSCs or OPVs.
Aufbau und Funktionsprinzip von OSCs (organic solar cells)Structure and functional principle of OSCs (organic solar cells)
Allgemeiner Hinweis:General remark:
Frequently, the abbreviation OPV (= organic photo voltaic) is used for organic solar cells (OSCs).
IR-Spektralbereich reichen. An important aim of the invention is the efficient conversion of solar energy into electrical energy. The associated requirements for the device structure are in many ways similar to those for the construction of an OLED. Thus, in the OLEDs care must be taken that holes coming from the anode and electrons coming from the cathode recombine on the dyes (= metal-organic emitters) and emit light. Conversely, in the case of OSCs (organic solar cells), starting from the dye molecules excited by sunlight, care must be taken to ensure that no new light emission occurs, but that holes and electrons are formed and migrate to the anode or cathode. Surprisingly, under certain conditions, the same dye materials can be used for OLEDs and OSCs if their absorptions reach far enough into the red or IR spectral region.
Dabei unterscheidet man drei verschiedene Typen von OSCs:Several techniques and device architectures have already been proposed to realize OSCs. There are three different types of OSCs:
1 ) OSCs1 bei denen die organischen Schichten aus sog. „small molecules" bestehen. (SM-Solarzellen werden durch Vakuumdeposition hergestellt.)1) OSCs 1 in which the organic layers consist of so-called "small molecules" (SM solar cells are produced by vacuum deposition).
Grätzel-Zelle.).2) OSCs in which the organic layers consist inter alia of polymers (polymer solar cells are produced by spin-coating or ink-jet printing.) 3) "Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells", which have a highly porous OO 2 electron conduction layer (these are prepared by sintering O 2 O and covered with the dye.) (Principle realized in the so-called Grätzel cell). ,
In addition to these three different types of OSC OSCs can also be distinguished according to their operating principle. In general, after absorption of the photon, separation of the electric charge occurs, followed by migration of the resulting hole and electron to the respective electrodes (see FIG. 1). Depending on the functional principle, the separation of the charge carriers is realized in different ways. In a Grätzel cell, the dye molecule on the surface of the electrode acts as a photosensitizer. Upon absorption of a photon, electron transfer from the excited dye molecule to the electrode occurs. The oxidized dye molecule is subsequently reduced again by redox-active substances present in the electrolyte.
In the so-called solid solar cells (heterojunction, bulk heterojunction and p-i-n solar cells), the charge carriers (electron and hole) are separated at an interface between different layers of the device. In this case, the exciton (excited state of the dye) either directly at the interface between the hole and electron conduction layer arise (heterojunction solar cell), or an additional photoactive layer is introduced (p-i-n solar cell). In the latter case, the exciton inside this photoactive layer is generated by absorption of the photon and then travels towards the hole or electron conducting layer where charge separation occurs at the interface by a heterogeneous electron / hole transfer. The photoactive layer may also be realized in the form of a "bulk heterojunction" which is a mixture of hole and electron conductor material.
H) vergleichsweise niedrige Fertigungstemperaturen,The key benefits of OSCs are: i) a relatively simple manufacturing process (eg, no large ultra-pure crystals need to be grown), H) comparatively low production temperatures,
Hi) the use of organic / organometallic materials, iv) the small thickness of the individual layers, v) a low use of material (for example only 0.1 g of organic materials for one square meter of solar cell) vi) and the possibility of producing flexible devices on plastic substrates.
The structure of an organic solar cell is very similar to that of an OLED, as shown in FIG. 1. A cell is fabricated in a sandwich geometry, with one electrode being a transparent semiconductor layer, mostly made of indium tin oxide (ITO). One or more organic layers are applied to this electrode: hole-line layer, light-absorption layer, electron-line layer, and the final metal electrode.
Aus diesem Funktions-Prinzip ergeben sich die Anforderungen an die im Device verwendeten Substanzen: i) eine sehr hohe Absorption des Farbstoffs über das ganze sichtbareIn summary, the process that leads to the generation of the photoelectric current in an organic solar cell and consists of several "elementary" steps is explained here once again: A photon of the incident light is absorbed by a dye molecule in the absorption layer. Since the excited state molecule (exciton) has different redox properties than the ground state, the hole conductor and the electron conductor layer in HOMO and LUMO layers, which are suitably selected, are relative to the HOMO / LUMO layers The resulting electrons and holes travel through the respective electron or hole-line layer in the direction of the electrodes, whereby an electrical voltage is generated at the electrodes. From this functional principle, the requirements arise the substances used in the device: i) a very high absorption of the dye over the whole visible

The ligands L1 - L8 must be chosen so that the specified and required total charge of the complex is maintained.
In particular, the invention relates to the use of oligomers of differently charged metal complexes in optoelectronic components, preferably in OSCs, lasers, diodes or transistors. Preferably, the electronic component is selected from OSCs 1 organic diode, organic transistor or organic laser. According to the invention, the optoelectronic component is preferably not an OLED (organic light emitting device).
Oligomers preferably comprise at least 3, more preferably at least 4, more preferably at least 5, even more preferably at least 10, and most preferably at least 20 metal complexes. Preferably, oligomers have at most 200, in particular at most 100 metal complexes. By increasing the number of metal complexes in the oligomers, it is often possible to shift absorption further into the red spectral range in the case of absorber materials. Preference is given to trimers and tetramers of the metal complexes.
The common structural feature of all the complexes used in the double complex salts is that the central ions M are square-planar coordinated four-fold, where the coordinations may be symmetric or asymmetric, with asymmetric arrangements being preferred.
This invention relates to the use of a class of compounds in which an extremely intense absorption can arise only through a pronounced metal-metal interaction between planar, oppositely charged metal complexes. The transitions leading to absorption are thus based on metal-metal interactions of the individual complexes in the oligomer in this class of compounds. This is a huge difference to previous systems where light absorption is based on isolated, neutral molecules.
Square-planar coordinated, oppositely charged Pt (II) complexes and structurally related second- and third-generation complexes of transition metals with a d 8 electron configuration (Pd (II), Ir (I), Rh (I), and limited Au (III )) show a tendency to form metal-metal interactions and form trimers, tetramers, .... or in general oligomers or columnar structures (the terms columnar structures, stacking arrangement, oligomers and aggregates are used synonymously here). such As a solid, compounds show intense absorptions resulting from states that arise from metal-metal interactions.
The invention is based on the use of differently charged metal complexes, ie, double-complex salts, which form trimers, tetramers, etc., or generally oligomers, in opto-electronic devices, which are preferably hermetically sealed to the outside. The permeability of the housing is particularly preferred for water vapor <10 " ^ g * m '2 * d " 1 and particularly preferably for oxygen <10 "6 cm 3 * m " 2 * d "1 * bar ' 1 , so that no gas exchange with the environment.

gebildet. Die Metallzentren M1 und M2 der Metall-Komplexe werden unabhängig ausgewählt aus Ir(I), Rh(I), Pt(II), Pd(II) oder Au(III), bevorzugt aus Pt(II) und Pd(II).educated. The metal centers M1 and M2 of the metal complexes are independently selected from Ir (I), Rh (I), Pt (II), Pd (II) or Au (III), preferably Pt (II) and Pd (II).
According to the invention, M1 = M2 or M1 ≠ M2. Any combinations are possible, the charges of the individual complex building blocks must add up to zero.
Da erfindungsgemäß die zur Absorption führenden Zustände im Wesentlichen aus M-M-Wechselwirkungen resultieren, müssen die Liganden selbst keine chromophoren π-Systeme aufweisen.L1, L2, L3 and L4 and L5, L6, L7 and L8 are each independently a neutral or charged ligand, especially a monodentate or multidentate ligand. In the following discussion NL denotes neutral monodentate ligands and AL denotes anionic monodentate ligands (for a more detailed definition of ligands see below). For explanation, it should be noted that the ligands Ll 1 L2, L3 and L4 in the general formula [L1 L2L3L4M1] n + are not necessarily identical to the ligands also designated L1 to L4 of another general formula [L1 L2L3L4M1] n + . Since, according to the invention, the states leading to the absorption essentially result from MM interactions, the ligands themselves do not have to have any chromophoric .pi. Systems.
Preferred structures of the oligomers to be used according to the invention are explained in more detail below. Preference is given to using oligomers / columnar structures which have comparatively small M-M distances in order to ensure the high absorptions, which are important for OSCs, as far as the red or the near IR spectral range. Also preferred are oligomers / columnar structures with medium and larger M-M distances, with which high absorptions z. B. in the green or blue spectral range.

Also preferred is a doping of charged, square-planar Pt complexes (D), which are incorporated in low concentration in a chain of charged, square-planar Pd complexes (Ki, K2). This allows the absorption range of the Pt compound to be shifted. The Pd complex stack acts like a matrix interacting with the doped Pt complex. Due to this principle, the absorption maxima shift and the emissions change. The doping can be carried out on columnar structures, which are composed of singly or doubly charged complexes (Kt, K 2 ).
Doped columnar structures are preferably suitable for use in optoelectronic components, such as lasers, diodes or transistors.
Doped columnar structures are particularly suitable for achieving a blue emission. A shift or influence on the emission wavelength towards blue wavelengths is often desired, especially in laser applications.

But it is also possible in columnar structures, built up from single or double charged Pt complexes, single or double charged Pd complexes install. Thereby, the size of the oligomers responsible for the light absorption and thus the absorption wavelength can be varied. According to the invention, the concept of doping can also be applied to columnar structures constructed from charged complexes of the elements Ir (I) and Rh (I). Each square-planar complex with the appropriate charge can be doped into the respective columnar structure.
The complex used for the doping is in the oligomer matrix preferably in a molar ratio of at most 1: 3, preferably at most 1: 10, preferably at most 1: 50 and in particular at most 1: 100, based on the oligomer matrix-forming complexes, in front. The complex used for the doping is preferably present in the oligomer matrix in a molar ratio of at least 1: 100,000, preferably at least 1: 10,000, more preferably at least 1: 1,000, based on the oligomer matrix-forming complexes.
The illustrated concept of doping columnar structures can be used primarily to control the absorption and emission wavelengths and is therefore of great importance for OSC applications. This inventive concept is particularly characterized by the fact that due to the defined charge of the doped complexes, D1 or D2, in the inventive construction principle no -D1-D1 or -D2-D2 neighbor arrangements can occur.

In addition to the double-complex salts already mentioned above, double-complex salts with different metal centers in stoichiometric composition (undoped) may also occur. In a further preferred form, a further component is doped.

The organic groups may in particular be selected from: hydrogen, halogen or groups which are bonded via oxygen (-OR), nitrogen (-NR 2) or silicon (-SiR 3 ), as well as alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl and alkenyl Groups or substituted alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl and alkenyl groups having substituents such as halogens, alkyl groups and other well-known donor and acceptor groups. The organic groups R1 -R20 can also lead to fused ring systems. The groups R1-R20 preferably contain 1 to 30 C atoms, more preferably 1 to 20 C atoms. In order to ensure the solubility are preferred long chain - and branched - alkyl chains (Ci- C 3 0) and short chain polyether [for example, polymers (-OCH 2 CH 2 O-) n, n <500]. The alkyl chains can also be modified with polar groups, for example with alcohols, aldehydes, amines, carboxylic acids, ethers, phosphoric esters, phosphonic acids, which allow a further increase in the solubility.
As used herein, the radical R is organic groups (analogous to the definition of R 1 -R 2 O). CNR bezeichnet gängige Isonitril-LigandenCNR denotes common isonitrile ligands
Because of the opposite charges of the metal complexes used in the invention, the electrostatic interaction (ionic bonding) leads to a pronounced stabilization of the MMB indung, which among other things, the very poor solubility of such compounds is due. Although this fact simplifies the synthesis substantially, since in the union of each soluble components, the double complex salts usually turn out instantaneously. However, this makes more thorough analysis and various applications more difficult. Since vacuum sublimation is usually out of the question for salts because of their low volatility, wet-chemical processes (eg spin coating, printing) remain for the production of thin layers. However, these in turn require some solubility of the compounds. However, this does not apply if the double-complex salts are used as dispersions or if the method of diffusion is chosen.
Wegen ihrer herausragenden photophysikalischen Eigenschaften sind gemäß dieser Erfindung diese Doppelkomplex-Salze gute Kandidaten für optoelektronische Anwendungen (OSCs).Platinum-double complex salts of the general form [L1 L2L3L4Pt] 2+ [Pt (AL1) 4 ] 2 " are generally insoluble In this example, the ligands L1-L4 are neutral, L1-L4 may also be interconnected, ie, multidentate They form complexes that contain, for example, either a) a bidentate and two monodentate ligands, b) two bidentate ligands, c) a tridentate and a monodentate ligand, or d) a tetradentate ligand Ligands to α-diimines, such as 2,2'-bipyridine or 1, 10-phenanthroline, and AL1 is a cyanide, chloride, bromide or iodide ion. Because of their outstanding photophysical properties, this invention provides this double complex Salts are good candidates for optoelectronic applications (OSCs).

Surprisingly, it is now possible to modify double-complex salts so that they go into solution either as oligomers or in polar solvents as ions. The object of this invention makes use of the fact that the bonds within the complex stacks are indeed strong due to the MM interactions, but essentially only weak van der Waals interactions exist between these stacks. By Substitution at the periphery of the ligands by large organic radicals R surprisingly does not hinder the MM interactions, but disturbs the arrangement of the various columns so that they no longer readily align themselves as crystal lattices. The substitution can be carried out on the positively charged complexes or on the negatively charged components. Also a substitution at both is possible. This solubility is achievable.
For all embodiments described herein, solubilization of the double complex salts is particularly preferred. It is therefore particularly preferred for at least one of the ligands to increase the solubilizability to have a large organic group, in particular one or more alkyl groups having 1 to 200 carbon atoms, preferably 9 to 30 carbon atoms, or / and one or more polysiloxane groups (-OSiR 2 ) n -OSiR'3 with n = 1 to 200, in particular n = 5 to 30 or / and one or more polyether groups, in particular (-OCH 2 -) n -OR or (-OCH 2 CH 2 ) I i-OR with n = 1 to 200, in particular n = 1 to 200, in particular n = 2 to 30, where R is as defined herein and R 'can have the meanings given for R, but R and R f are preferably C 1 - C6 alkyl groups.

Prinzipielle Erläuterung eines OSC-Aufbaus (Fig. 2)For simple OSCs-as illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3-it is important to achieve high absorptions over the near UV, the visible spectral range up to the red spectral range or up to the near IR spectral range. For these, preference is given to using oligomers / columnar structures which have comparatively small MM distances. For stacked OSCs, high absorptions in the blue, or in the green, or in the red spectral region of the solar spectrum are particularly preferred. The corresponding absorptions are determined by the appropriate choice of MM distances. Basic explanation of an OSC structure (FIG. 2)

The essential novelty and advantages of the present invention for OSCs (OPVs) by using columnar structure-forming double-complex salts.
Wie bereits genannt wurde, ergeben sich die aktuellen technischen Probleme bei der Herstellung effizienter OSCs im Wesentlichen aus den folgenden zwei Hauptgründen: i) Fehlen von Materialien mit hoher Lichtabsorption vom Sichtbaren bis in den nahen Infrarot-Spektralbereich und ii) Fehlen von Materialien mit hohen Exzitonen-Diffusionslängen (weiteAs has already been mentioned, the current technical problems in the fabrication of efficient OSCs arise for the following two main reasons: i) lack of materials with high light absorption from the visible to the near infrared spectral region and ii) absence of materials with high excitons Diffusion lengths (wide
Migration of excitation energy). This means that the materials should have a high exciton diffusion length to achieve effective transfer to the interface or dissociation area within the absorption layer after light absorption, i. E. H. the excitonic migration must be fast and wide enough to achieve exciton dissociation.
The light absorption strength of a material at a given wavelength λ is given by the Lambert-Beer law:
Damit sind die Extinktionskoeffizienten zu gering!- \ og (l / I 0 ) = ε (λ) cd with / = intensity of the transmitted light, / o = intensity of the incident / incident light, c = concentration of the absorbing substance and d = path length of the light in the material and ε ( λ) = molar decadic extinction coefficient. With the assumption that 99% of the incident light should be absorbed, ie UIo = 0.01 or -log (/// o) = 2 and the neglect of reflections and a value of c = 5 mol / l (typical solid concentrations of metal complexes / Mixtures, the subject of present invention) and d = 100 nm (thickness of the light absorption layer in an OSC), the required molar extinction coefficients in the amount of at least 10 4 - 10 5 1 mol "1 cm " 1 estimate. Typically, the ε (λ) values for most known materials in the visible or in the near IR are only 10 3 - 10 4 ] mol "1 cm '1 , which means that the extinction coefficients are too low!
Dementsprechend zeigen derartige Strukturen sehr hohe Exzitonenbeweglichkeiten. It has now surprisingly been found that when oligomeric or columnar structure-forming double-complex salts are used in the optically active layers, the abovementioned disadvantages do not exist. As mentioned above, square-planar coordinated Pt (II) sites have a very strong tendency to form metal-metal interactions. The resulting oligomers or columnar structures have new (compared to the monomer units) electronic states, and accordingly also new absorption bands. The corresponding extinction coefficients are extremely high and are in the ε (λ) range required above. On the other hand, columnar structures consisting of Pt (II) complexes can also be considered as one-dimensional semiconductors. Accordingly, such structures show very high exciton mobilities.
It should be emphasized that a change in the absorption properties can be achieved by using the above-mentioned metal complex salts. In particular, the MM distances in the oligomers / columnar structures and the average chain lengths of these oligomers / columnar structures can be varied almost as desired. As a result, the layers of the absorption bands can be selectively controlled over a wide range, and it is possible to produce new oligomers / columnar structures whose absorption can be adjusted over the entire spectral range (visible spectral range to the near infrared range). These high absorptions z. B. to the red or in the near IR range, can be realized with small MM intervals in the oligomers / columnar structures of the double complex salts. Thus, the absorber material can be optimally adapted to the solar spectrum. Such oligomers / columnar structures are especially well suited for use in the OSCs mentioned here and are not yet to be found in this form in the prior art. As examples thereof, the oligomers / columnar structures of the double-complex salts can be used, which are composed of monomers which are described above.
Another essential property is that the double-complex salts are chemically and photochemically particularly stable and are therefore particularly suitable for use as absorbers in OSCs (OPVs).
A further essential property is given by the fact that the oligomer / columnar structure double complex salts to be used according to the invention in optoelectronic devices have very good charge carrier mobilities. Due to the M-M interactions, the HOMO and LUMO are electronically delocalized over many molecules (building blocks of the oligomers / columnar structures). This also leads to a significant improvement in hole and electron mobility. As a result, the absorber layer does not require additional components to enhance mobility, i. the sometimes restrictive matrix requirements for good carrier mobility can be eliminated with the use of these double-complex salts in many applications. This makes it possible to achieve a large increase in efficiency and a cheaper production of OSCs (OPVs).
Verarbeitung der Doppelkomplex-Salze in OSCsProcessing of the double-complex salts in OSCs
A SolυbilisierungThe processing / use of the double complex salts in the optically relevant layers, ie the absorption layer in the OSC, is not obvious (simple) since the double complex salts are very difficult or not at all soluble. Surprisingly, it is now possible to process the materials in opto-electronic components in various approaches: A stabilization
By solubilizing the building components, the salts are readily soluble, but still retain the favorable optical properties. This is achieved by selecting a specific embodiment for at least one of the organic groups on the ligands. In particular, in order to ensure the solubility, preferably long-chain - also branched - alkyl chains (C1-C30) and short-chain polyether [eg polymers (-OCH 2 CH 2 O-) n, n <500]. be used. The alkyl chains can also be modified with polar groups, for example with alcohols, aldehydes, amines, carboxylic acids, ethers, phosphoric esters, phosphonic acids, which allow a further increase in the solubility.
B DispersionenB dispersions
For the inventive use of the oligomers / columnar structures, which are poor or insoluble, the application in the form of dispersions can be made. In this case, colloidal dispersions of the oligomers / columnar structures can be mixed in / mixed in a suitable polymer. The concentration of the oligomers in the polymer is 2 to 10 wt .-% or 10 to 90 wt .-%. However, it is also possible to apply the pure oligomers / columnar structures (i.e., without polymer) as dispersions, thus realizing 100% absorber or emitter layers. If necessary, the oligomer strands / columnar structures can be reduced in size prior to incorporation into the polymer by ultrasonic processing in the liquid phase. This is done by introducing the first component and adding the second, third, ... component in the ultrasonic bath. The double complex salts are then introduced into the polymer after filtering by micro / nanofilters. This also applies to the application as a 100% emitter layer.
C DiffusionsverfahrenC diffusion method
For the use according to the invention of the non-soluble or poorly soluble oligomers / columnar structures, the novel diffusion method proposed here for the first time is suitable for the production of the emission layers. First, one of the generally soluble components of the double complex salts is introduced into the optically relevant polymer layer. The second component is then applied to this layer. By diffusion through the polymer layer, the second component migrates to the first component where it forms the insoluble oligomer. By washing off the second complex salt component, the process is stopped when the desired double complex salt concentration is reached.
If the oligomers / columnar structures in one of the forms discussed above are used in the preparation of the OSCs, then the oligomer strands in the absorption layer are present in disordered relation to one another. If light strikes this layer, part of it is absorbed by one oligomer strand, the other part is reflected by it and strikes neighboring strands. There again a part is absorbed and reflected. Until the incident light has passed through the absorption layer, this process of absorption and reflection occurs many times, resulting in improved absorption efficiencies compared to conventional OSCs. In the case of OSCs which correspond to the state of the art, the incident light is often already reflected on the surface of the absorption layer and can thus no longer be used.

Dies wird anhand folgender Beispiele veranschaulicht: a) Kolumarstrukturen senkrecht zur Substratoberfläche:As quasi-1D structures, the electronic properties of the complex salts of the oligomers described herein are anisotropic. In the case of random installation of the columnar structures in a matrix or on a substrate, isotropic properties of the optoelectronic component result again parallel to the surface. In one embodiment of the invention, one makes use of the anisotropic nature of the substances in order to realize device nanoarchitectures which have special properties. This is illustrated by the following examples: a) Columar structures perpendicular to the substrate surface:
If the conditions are chosen such that the columnar structures grow up perpendicular to a substrate surface (eg, a (polymeric) conductor or semiconductor), an absorber layer is obtained, which in addition to the increased absorption also has a high charge carrier mobility in a defined direction. The increase in absorption is achieved in comparison to the random orientation of the columnar structures in that these layers can be oriented optimally to the irradiation direction of the light (see FIG. 6A, which is a schematic of a component with columnar structures aligned perpendicular to the substrate surface). (HTL: hole transport layer (FIG. Hole transport layer), ETL: electron transport layer)).
b) Kolumnarstrukturen parallel zu einer Vorzugsrichtung:b) Columnar structures parallel to a preferred direction:
Such structures can be conveniently prepared from a dispersion of already formed columnar structures (see item A or B) by applying the dispersion to the desired substrate and uniformly aligning the complex stacks by shear (e.g., by means of a brush or spatula).
If the columnar structures are introduced into a matrix, the complex stacks can also be aligned by stretching the film in the stretch direction (shown schematically in FIG. 6B).
c) Nutzung nano-strukturierter Oberflächen:c) Use of nano-structured surfaces:
Another possibility for aligning the columnar structures (perpendicular or parallel to a substrate surface) is the use of nanostructured surfaces. As is known to those skilled in the art, a number Metal oxides are structured by electrochemical etching, by vapor deposition or nanoscale lithographic processes. In these nanostructures, the columnar structures can either grow directly or already formed complex stacks can be introduced. An example of nanostructures formed perpendicular to a substrate surface is the honeycomb-structured surface of TiO 2 , which is a semiconductor. In nanostructures, which were produced eg by lithographic processes, columnar structures can grow in parallel or as existing column pile be introduced. Such structures are shown in Fig. 6C (Sources of Figures: http: //apchem.gifu- u.ac.jp/~pcl/minourahρ/research/research_e.htm and http: //

d) Kolumnarstrukturen als Gerüst für organische Substanzend) Columnar structures as scaffold for organic substances
Columnar structures can additionally act as a scaffold for polymeric (matrix) materials. As a result of the presence of the complex stacks embedded in a polymer, the polymers surrounding them can be excited to partially crystallize (analogously to corresponding additives in the case of polyolefins). Due to the presence of crystalline polymeric domains, the efficiency of e.g. Charge carrier materials can be increased because the order and thus the conjugation length of the polymers increases.
In the methods according to the above-described points a) - c) architectures are built, which have strong anisotropic properties. These are useful for special OSC, sensor, transistor or laser applications.
