Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for monitoring a display unit, in particular a display unit in a vehicle, preferably in a rail vehicle.
- a redundant display of the value on independent routes of action is generated in the cockpit at the operator station of the rail vehicle.
- the speed of the rail vehicle is reproduced on an analogue tachometer via a needle display and, secondly, as a digital value on a liquid crystal screen. If the two values deviate, a failure can be detected by the operator of the rail vehicle.
- the operator of the rail vehicle constantly has to monitor the displayed values and has to react on his own initiative in the event of a value failure or a deviation of the values from one another. The operator must thus perform another monitoring function, which he under Forget circumstances or which distracts him from the control of the rail vehicle.
- the object of the invention is to provide monitoring of a display unit which automatically recognizes errors in the display of values on the display unit.
- the method according to the invention is used in particular for monitoring a display unit in a rail vehicle, but it can also be used in any other vehicles or means of transport, such as vehicles. Motor vehicles (cars and trucks), aircraft, ships and the like can be used. In addition to vehicles, the method according to the invention can also be used for other technical systems in which a correct display on a display unit is of relevance.
- a further field of application is, for example, the use of the method in a technical production plant or process control plant, for example by to supervise the production to ensure the quality of the manufactured products.
- a display output on the display unit to be monitored is optically detected with a detection means.
- an actual value displayed on the display unit is determined from the optically detected display, and finally in a step c) the determined actual value is compared with a setpoint value to be displayed on the display unit and in normal operation corresponding to the actual value, an error being detected when the actual value deviates by a predetermined amount or more from the target value to be displayed.
- the term "deviation of the actual value from the nominal value” is to be interpreted broadly and includes not only differences between the two values, but also the case that the actual value, for example in case of failure of the display unit, can not be determined at all. If appropriate, the predetermined dimension can also be selected to be arbitrarily small (even zero), so that even small changes between setpoint and actual value can be detected.
- the method according to the invention is characterized by an automatic monitoring of the communication path between a nominal value initially generated and the target value to be displayed up to its display as an actual value on a display unit.
- the actual value provided at the end of the communication path is determined by optically detecting the display on which the actual value is reproduced, whereby errors can be detected automatically by comparing the actual value with the actual target value to be displayed without an operator having to monitor a plurality of redundant displays.
- the method has the additional advantage that no technical components on the effective path between generation of the setpoint and display of the actual value must be monitored with regard to occurring errors. Such monitoring is very complex or technically partly not feasible.
- the optical detection of the display output on the display unit takes place in that an image of the display unit is recorded with a camera device, in particular a digital camera device.
- This image may then be suitably analyzed by any image recognition method known in the art to extract the actual value from the captured image.
- the display unit to be monitored is a screen, in particular a Liquid crystal screen, wherein in step a) the screen is optically detected.
- a camera device in combination with an image recognition method is preferably used as detection means. That is, the camera device captures an image of the screen and this image is analyzed by a suitable image recognition method to determine the displayed actual value.
- the display unit comprises an analog pointer display, wherein in step a), the analog pointer display is optically detected.
- a plurality of light-dark sensors can be used in one embodiment of the invention.
- the use of light-dark sensors is particularly in the case of a display unit to be monitored in the form of an analog pointer display into consideration.
- the light-dark sensors are preferably arranged on the analog pointer display such that the position of the pointer of the analog pointer display and, therefrom, the displayed actual value are determined via the light-dark detection of the sensors.
- a band of a plurality of light-dark sensors could be arranged, whereby a corresponding sensor is covered by the tip of the pointer. From the dark detection of this sensor and its predetermined position then the actual value of the pointer display can be determined.
- the desired value to be displayed is a state value detected by a detection device, in particular a state value detected on a vehicle and preferably on a rail vehicle.
- the state value could indicate the speed of the vehicle, which is determined, for example, via a corresponding measuring device on the wheels of the vehicle or with GPS.
- the desired value to be displayed is read out via a bus or another physical transmission channel.
- a bus system such a bus system generally always being provided when the method according to the invention is used in a vehicle.
- one or more measures are performed after the detection of a fault in step c). For example, a warning signal may be issued to the operator to inform him that the value on the display unit may not be correct. Likewise, the display unit may be switched off or darkened or the display unit may be reset and reinitialized to thereby possibly correct the error.
- step b not only a single actual value is determined in step b), but several actual values of different parts of the display unit are determined. These actual values are then compared in step c) with a plurality of corresponding desired values, an error being detected for each deviation between the respective actual values and desired values.
- the invention further relates to a device for monitoring a display unit, in particular a display unit in a vehicle, preferably in a rail vehicle, comprising detection means for optically detecting a display output on the display unit and an evaluation means which in operation on the Display unit displayed from the optically detected display and compares the determined actual value with a displayed on the display unit setpoint.
- the evaluation means detects a Error if the actual value deviates by a predetermined amount or more from the setpoint to be displayed.
- the evaluation means can be distributed over several technical components.
- the device according to the invention is designed such that any desired variant of the method according to the invention described above can be carried out with the device.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows a device for carrying out an embodiment of the method according to the invention.
- a display unit in the form of a TFT screen is designated by reference numeral 1.
- measured values are to be reproduced, which are measured by a corresponding measuring unit 6 in the rail vehicle.
- the measured values thus represent desired values in the sense of claim 1.
- a measured value from the measuring unit 6 is supplied to a bus system 5, such a bus system normally being always provided in a rail vehicle.
- the measured value is then tapped by the display unit 1 and the display unit generates from the setpoint a corresponding display of an actual value, wherein in normal operation the actual value corresponds to the desired value.
- a digital camera 2 which receives the display unit 1.
- the camera is preferably a video camera, in particular a digital one Video camera which generates a picture stream from a sequence of pictures.
- the camera may also be a single-frame camera, which takes a picture of the display unit at predetermined intervals.
- the captured images are automatically calibrated and subjected to image analysis.
- the setpoint determined with the evaluation unit 3 is subsequently supplied to a control unit 4, which compares the actual value with the desired value and carries out appropriate countermeasures if there is a sufficient deviation between these values, for example a dark switching of the display unit, a reboot of the display unit or other measures to bring about a safe condition.
- the actual value generated in the evaluation unit 3 can also be supplied, alternatively or additionally, to the measuring unit 6, which itself carries out a comparison between the actual value and the desired value and can then also initiate equivalent countermeasures.
- the TFT screen should provide a high-contrast display, so that the values displayed on it with the image recognition process can be recognized well.
- the method can also be used for any other display units, for example, for an analog speedometer display, for example, by high-contrast markers or landmarks on the display, such as center, pointer display, zero position and the like, an image recognition is enabled by the camera device, from which the displayed Actual value can be derived.
- the method described above has a number of advantages.
- no redundant output of safety-relevant values in the cockpit of a rail vehicle must be used, as a result of which display elements can be saved, if necessary.
- the security responsibility for the values to be monitored promptly on the display unit is shifted by the operator to a machine recognition, whereby the security can be significantly increased.
- the method according to the invention can be used not only in rail vehicles, but also for any other displays in technical systems. Particularly advantageous is the use of the method according to the invention for display units, on which values are displayed which require constant monitoring for up-to-dateness and correct output.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for monitoring a display unit, in particular a display unit in a vehicle, preferably in a rail vehicle.
In a variety of technical fields, certain parameters of technical components of a technical information or control system are communicated to an operator via a display unit. Often these are safety-relevant parameters which should be displayed to the operator correctly. In particular with means of transport, such as Rail vehicles, it is particularly important that certain display units reflect the correct value, since a wrong control of the rail vehicle due to an incorrectly reproduced value serious consequences, such as. Collisions with other rail vehicles, derailments and the like, can result.
In rail vehicles, in order to ensure that a display also reflects a correct value, a redundant display of the value on independent routes of action is generated in the cockpit at the operator station of the rail vehicle. By way of example, the speed of the rail vehicle is reproduced on an analogue tachometer via a needle display and, secondly, as a digital value on a liquid crystal screen. If the two values deviate, a failure can be detected by the operator of the rail vehicle. In this case, it is disadvantageous that the operator of the rail vehicle constantly has to monitor the displayed values and has to react on his own initiative in the event of a value failure or a deviation of the values from one another. The operator must thus perform another monitoring function, which he under Forget circumstances or which distracts him from the control of the rail vehicle.
The object of the invention is to provide monitoring of a display unit which automatically recognizes errors in the display of values on the display unit.
This object is achieved by the features of the method according to claim 1 or by the features of the device according to claim 13. Further developments of the invention are defined in the dependent claims.
The method according to the invention is used in particular for monitoring a display unit in a rail vehicle, but it can also be used in any other vehicles or means of transport, such as vehicles. Motor vehicles (cars and trucks), aircraft, ships and the like can be used. In addition to vehicles, the method according to the invention can also be used for other technical systems in which a correct display on a display unit is of relevance. A further field of application is, for example, the use of the method in a technical production plant or process control plant, for example by to supervise the production to ensure the quality of the manufactured products.
In the method according to the invention, in a step a), a display output on the display unit to be monitored is optically detected with a detection means. In a step b), an actual value displayed on the display unit is determined from the optically detected display, and finally in a step c) the determined actual value is compared with a setpoint value to be displayed on the display unit and in normal operation corresponding to the actual value, an error being detected when the actual value deviates by a predetermined amount or more from the target value to be displayed. The term "deviation of the actual value from the nominal value" is to be interpreted broadly and includes not only differences between the two values, but also the case that the actual value, for example in case of failure of the display unit, can not be determined at all. If appropriate, the predetermined dimension can also be selected to be arbitrarily small (even zero), so that even small changes between setpoint and actual value can be detected.
The method according to the invention is characterized by an automatic monitoring of the communication path between a nominal value initially generated and the target value to be displayed up to its display as an actual value on a display unit. The actual value provided at the end of the communication path is determined by optically detecting the display on which the actual value is reproduced, whereby errors can be detected automatically by comparing the actual value with the actual target value to be displayed without an operator having to monitor a plurality of redundant displays. The method has the additional advantage that no technical components on the effective path between generation of the setpoint and display of the actual value must be monitored with regard to occurring errors. Such monitoring is very complex or technically partly not feasible.
In a preferred variant of the method according to the invention, the optical detection of the display output on the display unit takes place in that an image of the display unit is recorded with a camera device, in particular a digital camera device. This image may then be suitably analyzed by any image recognition method known in the art to extract the actual value from the captured image.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the display unit to be monitored is a screen, in particular a Liquid crystal screen, wherein in step a) the screen is optically detected. In this case, a camera device in combination with an image recognition method is preferably used as detection means. That is, the camera device captures an image of the screen and this image is analyzed by a suitable image recognition method to determine the displayed actual value. Additionally or alternatively, however, it is also possible that the display unit comprises an analog pointer display, wherein in step a), the analog pointer display is optically detected.
In addition to or as an alternative to an optical detection means in the form of a camera, a plurality of light-dark sensors can be used in one embodiment of the invention. The use of light-dark sensors is particularly in the case of a display unit to be monitored in the form of an analog pointer display into consideration. In this case, the light-dark sensors are preferably arranged on the analog pointer display such that the position of the pointer of the analog pointer display and, therefrom, the displayed actual value are determined via the light-dark detection of the sensors. For example, along the circumference of the pointer display, a band of a plurality of light-dark sensors could be arranged, whereby a corresponding sensor is covered by the tip of the pointer. From the dark detection of this sensor and its predetermined position then the actual value of the pointer display can be determined.
In a further, preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the desired value to be displayed is a state value detected by a detection device, in particular a state value detected on a vehicle and preferably on a rail vehicle. For example, the state value could indicate the speed of the vehicle, which is determined, for example, via a corresponding measuring device on the wheels of the vehicle or with GPS.
In a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the desired value to be displayed is read out via a bus or another physical transmission channel. As a result, a particularly simple access to the desired value is made possible by means of a bus system, such a bus system generally always being provided when the method according to the invention is used in a vehicle.
In one embodiment of the invention, one or more measures are performed after the detection of a fault in step c). For example, a warning signal may be issued to the operator to inform him that the value on the display unit may not be correct. Likewise, the display unit may be switched off or darkened or the display unit may be reset and reinitialized to thereby possibly correct the error.
In a further, preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention not only a single actual value is determined in step b), but several actual values of different parts of the display unit are determined. These actual values are then compared in step c) with a plurality of corresponding desired values, an error being detected for each deviation between the respective actual values and desired values.
In addition to the method described above, the invention further relates to a device for monitoring a display unit, in particular a display unit in a vehicle, preferably in a rail vehicle, comprising detection means for optically detecting a display output on the display unit and an evaluation means which in operation on the Display unit displayed from the optically detected display and compares the determined actual value with a displayed on the display unit setpoint. In this case, the evaluation means detects a Error if the actual value deviates by a predetermined amount or more from the setpoint to be displayed. If appropriate, the evaluation means can be distributed over several technical components. Preferably, the device according to the invention is designed such that any desired variant of the method according to the invention described above can be carried out with the device.
Exemplary embodiments of the invention are explained below with reference to the accompanying FIG. 1, which schematically shows a device for carrying out an embodiment of the method according to the invention.
The method according to the invention in relation to the monitoring of a display unit in a rail vehicle will be described below. In the cockpit of such a rail vehicle, a plurality of display units are provided, wherein certain display units provide safety-relevant data, such as e.g. the speed of the vehicle or the condition of certain technical components of the vehicle. In Fig. 1, such a display unit in the form of a TFT screen is designated by reference numeral 1. On this display unit 1 measured values are to be reproduced, which are measured by a corresponding measuring unit 6 in the rail vehicle. The measured values thus represent desired values in the sense of claim 1. In the scenario of FIG. 1, a measured value from the measuring unit 6 is supplied to a
In order to determine a deviation from normal operation, in the embodiment of FIG. 1, a
With the
With reference to Fig. 1, a method has been described in which the display of a TFT screen has been detected. The TFT screen should provide a high-contrast display, so that the values displayed on it with the image recognition process can be recognized well. However, the method can also be used for any other display units, for example, for an analog speedometer display, for example, by high-contrast markers or landmarks on the display, such as center, pointer display, zero position and the like, an image recognition is enabled by the camera device, from which the displayed Actual value can be derived.
The method described above has a number of advantages. In particular, no redundant output of safety-relevant values in the cockpit of a rail vehicle must be used, as a result of which display elements can be saved, if necessary. In addition, the security responsibility for the values to be monitored promptly on the display unit is shifted by the operator to a machine recognition, whereby the security can be significantly increased. As already mentioned, the method according to the invention can be used not only in rail vehicles, but also for any other displays in technical systems. Particularly advantageous is the use of the method according to the invention for display units, on which values are displayed which require constant monitoring for up-to-dateness and correct output.
