Abstract

A device for applying mascara comprising a container (1) provided with a cylindrical body sealedly closed by a closing capsule (3) from which a cylindrical wand (3) extends, which wand (3) is provided near a base thereof with an applicator tool (4) for applying a product contained in the container (1), the applicator tool (4) comprising a surface (43,46) for retaining the mascara, in a form of a grooved surface or a cylindrical brush, and a pointed element.

Description

  • The present invention relates to devices used for applying mascara to eyelashes and eyeliner to eyelids.
  • The mascara and eyeliner are generally of the same colour.
  • The devices usually comprise an elongate container of any shape, the opening of which is closed by a capsule from which a wand extends axially, bearing either a small comb for applying mascara at the end thereof, or a thin point for applying eyeliner.
  • The wand is sufficiently long for the comb or brush or the point to be positioned near the bottom of the container.
  • In order to save users from having to carry two separate containers in their handbag, devices for combining application of mascara and eyeliner are known which comprise two distinct identical containers of product in a shared capsule.
  • The capsule is provided with two aligned wands, predisposed in opposite directions. One wand has a comb for applying mascara, and the other has a point for applying eyeliner.
  • The capsule comprises a double-acting means for hermetically closing the assembly in opposite positions, each side of the double-acting means engages with one of the two containers: the capsule is substantially a double cap.
  • In the closed position the package assembly has the appearance of two identical containers, aligned and closed by the cap arranged between them.
  • The known assembly exhibits drawbacks caused by the large number of parts making it up, the subdivision of the product into two distinct containers which increases the possibility of deterioration over time, and a certain awkwardness in use.
  • The aim of this invention is provide a package assembly which eliminates the above-mentioned drawbacks within the ambit of a simple, reliable and economical solution.
  • The aim of the invention is achieved by a package assembly having the characteristics listed in claim 1.
  • The merits and the constructive and functional characteristics of the invention will emerge from the following detailed description, illustrated in the accompanying figures of the drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention, provided by way of a non-limiting example thereof, in which:
    • Figure 1 shows a partially sectioned view of the device.
    • Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the device in Figure 1.
    • Figure 3 shows a possible alternative embodiment to that in Figure 1.
  • The figures show an elongate and cylindrical container 1 provided with a neck 11 upon which a block 12 bearing a helix in relief is fashioned.
  • A shaped sleeve 2 provided with a tapered end 21 is stably inserted, by force-fit, into the neck 11.
  • A closing capsule 3, cylindrical and having a same external diameter as the container 1, exhibits an open cavity 31 provided with a helical groove 32 enmeshing with the block 12; the capsule 3 is destined to be tightly screwed into a sealed closed position on the neck 11 of the container.
  • A foot 31 of a wand 3 is destined to be fitted into a portion of the closing capsule located beyond the helical groove, where it is force-fitted into a blocked position.
  • The foot 31 is beaker-shaped with the cavity thereof facing in an opposite direction to the wand.
  • The wand 3, in an opposite position to the beaker, has a tapered end and is provided with an axial hole 32.
  • A cylindrical tail 41 of a shaft of an applicator tool 4 is received and held in position by forced pressure in the axial hole 32. The applicator tool 4 is suitable for retaining and distributing mascara.
  • The applicator tool 4 comprises a portion 42 provided externally with a helical relief 43 for applying the mascara. The height of the helical relief from the diameter of the shaft is approximately 0.6-0.8mm, and a step between a helical summit and a next helical summit is of the same dimension.
  • The helical relief 43 can be replaced by a cylindrical brush 46 made of radial bristles as shown in Figure 3.
  • A portion 42 of the applicator tool 4 located at the end furthest from the tail 41 affords an axial hole 44 capable of receiving and holding by force-fit a soft point 45 for applying the eyeliner. The point 45 can also have the form of a thin brush, not shown in the figures of the drawings.
  • Alternatively, a stiff point 47 such as that illustrated in figure 3, made of a synthetic material, can be inserted into the axial hole 44.
  • The length of the wand and of the container 1 are such that, when the container is closed, the point 45, 47 is near the base of the container.
  • An internal diameter of the tapered end 21 of the sleeve 2 is equal to the external diameter of the wand 3, with slight interference of approximately 0.1-0.3mm, and is also equal to the external diameter of the helical relief fashioned on the wand 3, with a slight interference of approximately 0.3-0.5mm.
  • How the applicator device functions is obvious.
  • A certain quantity of a usual product suitable for application to the eyelashes as mascara or to the eyelids as eyeliner is put into the container 1.
  • Both functions are made possible by the point 45, 47 and by the helical portion 43 of the applicator tool 4, or by the brush 46.
  • Whenever the tool is extracted from the container, the tapered part of the sleeve 2 scrapes away the superfluous product from the wand 3, and from the portion 43, 46.
  • Thanks to this invention all of the aims of the invention are achieved.
  • In particular, the user has at her disposal, in a single container, the means for applying both mascara and eyeliner.
  • Thanks to the special shape of the helical relief 43 of the tool 4, distribution of the mascara on the eyelashes is greatly facilitated.
  • Obviously, variants and improvements of a various nature may be brought to the device without its forsaking the ambit of protection sought for the patent, as defined in the following claims.
