Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for the delivery and admission of a liquid product, or semi-liquid, preferably pharmaceutical or cosmetic, via a metering chamber of a pump body.
- Such devices are usually designed for the dosed distribution of liquid product, and to seal the neck of a vial containing said liquid product to be delivered.
- devices of this type forming a pump and comprising a pump body, a fixed piston mounted in the pump body, a variable volume metering chamber in which the end of the piston opens, the chamber communicating with the outside by an exhaust valve enclosed in a push button and whose actuation allows the delivery of a dose of product. Furthermore, the end of the piston is closed by a valve or a second inlet valve of the liquid product in the chamber.
- the pump when such devices are implemented on bottles without air intake, for example with deformable walls, the pump must have a suction power necessary to reduce the volume of the container. This requirement is difficult to meet, and this can prevent the accuracy of doses of delivered products.
- the known devices have problems with the priming of the pump. Indeed, by design, it is difficult to evacuate the air in the metering chamber before a first use of the dispenser.
- the present invention overcomes the disadvantages of such pumps.
- It relates in particular to a device designed to be implemented independently on a bottle with an upgradable capacity, that is to say a flexible bottle, or deformable bag, or on a mobile scraper bottle, or on a bottle rigid to constant capacity, requiring or not a return air.
- the device according to the invention comprises a piston which is fixedly mounted in the pump body and which has an end sealingly engaged in the chamber, the end of the piston being capped with an elastically deformable membrane.
- the membrane comprises:
- a transverse wall forming an intake valve being provided with a central supply orifice, able to be sealed off by a projecting element forming a seat of the valve at the end of the piston, and
- a cylindrical fixing skirt provided with at least one peripheral sealing lip in sliding contact with the inner wall of the chamber; the skirt forms a valve by deformation in contact with a boss carried by the inner wall of the chamber, to release the compressed air by the piston in the chamber at the priming of the pump.
- the boss consists of at least one axial rib projecting on the inner wall of the chamber.
- the underside of the transverse wall of the membrane advantageously comprises an annular bead centered on the central orifice, and bearing against the element projecting from the end of the piston in the closed position of the valve.
- the device according to the invention comprises a connecting element of the piston to the pump body, provided with a retaining bearing of the membrane.
- the retaining bearing comprises latching means of the skirt of the membrane.
- the detent means preferably consist of a peripheral groove formed in the side wall of the element and cooperating with a snap ring carried by the inner wall of the skirt.
- the connecting element is an independent piece, designed to be attached to the lower part of the pump body.
- the connecting element carries a transverse wall forming a bottom, intended to close the body at the bottom.
- the connecting element comprises a cylindrical bore in which is fitted a product gripping tube.
- the connecting element preferably comprises an axial supply duct communicating at the bottom with the cylindrical bore.
- the connecting element has a peripheral shoulder against which the lower edge of the skirt of the membrane abuts.
- the peripheral sealing lip is made in the vicinity of the peripheral shoulder. This makes it possible to reinforce the tightness of the device by limiting any radial movement of the membrane, which can off-set the protruding element with respect to the central orifice of the membrane.
- the device according to the invention comprises an expansion cavity in which is housed the element projecting from the end of the piston. This cavity is being sealed at the bottom by the projecting element and at the top by the membrane.
- the projecting element consists of a ball movable between a closed position of the valve and an open position where it allows the liquid product to enter the chamber.
- the device according to the invention comprises centering elements of the element projecting in the axis of the supply orifice.
- the device according to the invention ensures not only an easy and quick priming of the pump before a first use, but also a perfect seal between the end of the piston and the metering chamber, independently of the support force and how it is exerted by the user on the push button, or the area of the push button on which the user presses to operate the pump.
- the device of the invention finds a particularly efficient application in the field of pump sprayers whose nozzle cooperates with a needle valve end.
- FIG. 1 shows, in partial sectional view, a device according to the invention mounted in a pump
- FIG. 2 illustrates an embodiment of a membrane that comprises a device according to the invention, in profile view
- FIG. 3 shows a second embodiment of the device according to the invention, in profile, the membrane being partially shown so as to show various elements of the device according to the invention
- FIG. 4 shows, in sectional view, the device shown in Figure 3 and mounted in a pump body, at the time of priming the pump;
- FIG. 5 shows, in sectional view, the device of Figures 3 and 4 before priming the pump
- FIG. 6 is a sectional view of the device of FIG. 5 along the E-E plane shown in FIG. 5;
- FIG. 7 is a sectional view of the device of FIG. 5 along the D-D plane shown in FIG. 5;
- FIG. 8 is a sectional view of the device of FIG. 5 along the plane CC shown in FIG.
- the device which will now be described is particularly suitable for the delivery of a pharmaceutical product, of the drug type, contained in a reservoir bottle.
- the device according to the invention does not apply solely to the pharmaceutical product distribution, and that it concerns any device that meets the definition of the invention that can be used in any type of body. pump.
- FIG. 1 illustrates a first embodiment of the device according to the invention
- FIGS. 3 to 8 illustrate a second embodiment.
- the device according to the invention is designed to deliver a dose of liquid or semi-liquid product via a metering chamber 1 of a pump body 2.
- the pump body 2 comprises a hollow cylinder 21, of such dimensions that it can accommodate the device according to the invention.
- the hollow cylinder 21 is open at a first end to accommodate an exhaust system, not shown in detail in the figures, which is equipped in particular with a push button 22 and which comprises the metering chamber 1.
- the push button 22 is mounted movably in displacement between a depressed position and a high rest position in a guide sleeve 23 connected to the hollow cylinder 21 of the pump body 2.
- a spring 24 working in compression in the sleeve 23 here provides the elastic return of the push button 22 from its depressed position to its rest position.
- the first end of the hollow cylinder 21 has a flange 26 for hooking on the neck of a reservoir flask.
- An annular seal 27 is optionally provided under the attachment flange 26 to seal the neck of the flask.
- an outer ring 28 here serves to crimp the pump on the reservoir bottle.
- a second end of the cylinder 21 of the pump body is closed around a conduit 25 for connecting the end of a receptacle tube 76 of liquid product contained in the reservoir bottle on which the pump is mounted.
- the device according to the invention which is mounted in the pump body 2, comprises in particular a piston 3.
- the piston 3 which is fixedly mounted in the lower part of the pump body 2, has an upper end 31 sealingly engaged in the chamber 1.
- the end 31 of the piston is capped with an at least partially elastically deformable membrane 4, which is more particularly shown in FIG.
- the membrane 4 comprises, on the one hand, a deformable transverse wall 41 forming an intake valve being provided with a central supply orifice 42, able to be closed in a sealed manner by a projecting element 5 forming a seat of the valve at the end of the piston 3 (see Figure 3).
- the membrane 4 comprises a cylindrical mounting skirt 43, provided with at least one, and here two peripheral sealing lips 44, in sliding contact with the inner wall of the chamber 1.
- the skirt 43 may be made of a different material that is more rigid than that of the wall 41.
- peripheral lips are made in the lower part of the cylindrical skirt of the membrane, to ensure an optimum seal that will be more explicitly detailed later.
- the membrane 4 allows the introduction of the liquid product into the metering chamber 1, when it creates a vacuum in this chamber 1. Indeed, its deformable character of the wall 41 allows it to lift away from the protruding element under the pressure of the liquid, releasing the orifice 42 and thus allowing the liquid to enter the metering chamber.
- the skirt 43 forms a valve by deformation of at least the lips 44 in contact with a boss 6 carried by the inner wall of the chamber 1, to release the compressed air by said piston 3 in the chamber 1 at priming of the pump.
- the boss here consists of at least one axial rib 6 projecting on the inner wall of the chamber 1.
- the axial rib 6 comprises a channel 61 which is longitudinal and of very small section, allowing the passage of the air removed from the metering chamber 1 at the priming of the pump.
- Figure 4 shows in particular the shape that takes the membrane 4 when the piston 3 is pressed into the metering chamber.
- the rib 6 crushes the sealing lips 44, without causing leakage of the liquid product. Indeed, the support contact between the groove 6 and the lips 44 does not create any passage for the liquid. Only the channel 61 forming capillary ensures the escape of the compressed air in the initial phase of priming of the pump, said exhaust being effected by bypassing the sealing lips 44 and towards the outside of the chamber 1.
- the lower face of the transverse wall 41 comprises an annular bead 45 centered on said central orifice 42, and bearing against the element projection 5.
- the device according to the invention comprises an element 7 ensuring the connection of the piston 3 to the pump body 2.
- the connecting element 7 is provided with a bearing 71 for retaining the membrane 4.
- the retaining bearing 71 comprises latching means of the skirt 43 of the membrane 4. These latching means consist of a peripheral groove 72, formed on the lateral wall of the element 7 and cooperating with a snap ring 73 carried by the inner wall of the skirt 43.
- the connecting element 7 is here embodied as an independent part of the pump body 2, which is designed to be introduced through the upper opening and housed in the lower part of said body.
- the connecting element 7 comprises a base 74 made in the form of a disk, to ensure the positioning and the coaxial wedging of the element.
- the connecting element 7 comprises, in the lower part, a cylindrical bore 75 in which the tube 76 for gripping the liquid product (FIGS. 1 and 4) engages.
- the connecting element 7 comprises, in the upper part, an internal conduit 77 for supplying the chamber 1 with product, the supply duct communicating with the cylindrical bore 75 (FIGS. 1, 4 and 5). .
- the connecting element 7 also has a peripheral shoulder 78 against which the lower edge of the skirt 43 of the membrane 4 abuts.
- an expansion cavity 8 is provided at the end of the piston 3 under the membrane 4, the cavity 8 being hermetically sealed by the projecting element 5 and by the membrane 4.
- the liquid product is introduced into this cavity before entering the metering chamber 1.
- the projecting element 5 of the end of the piston 3 is housed in the cavity 8.
- the projecting element 5 consists of a movable ball 5, resting between centering elements 51 in the closed position of the valve.
- the upper end of the supply duct 77 is made in such a way that it forms a bowl 9 (Figure 1) in the form of a truncated cone for supporting and centering the ball 5.
- the ball in the closed position of the valve, closes both the end of the supply duct 77 and the orifice of the membrane 4. It is thus immobilized between the bowl and the membrane. Thus, the ball prevents any entry of the liquid into the cavity 8, and any liquid inlet into the metering chamber.
- the upper end of the connecting element 7 comprises crenellations delimited here by two lugs 52 carried by the bearing 71 intended to extend the conduit 77.
- tabs 52 hold the projecting element 5 centered in the axis of the conduit 77 and away from its end.
- the projecting element 5 is then in the form of a solid cylinder whose diameter is substantially equal to, or slightly greater than, the separation distance of the two lugs 52, so that the projecting element is immobilized between the two legs 52.
- the liquid can be introduced into the expansion cavity 8.
- the cavity 8 can thus be used as a treatment chamber for the liquid product. To this end, it could be planned to introduce a chemical or biological agent with which the liquid product could interact by mutual contact or dispersion. This agent could be contained in the constituent material of the projecting element 5 or on the walls of the cavity 8.
- FIG. 8 illustrates each sectional views of the end of the piston along several transverse planes. These figures illustrate each zone occupied by the liquid when the projecting element 5 closes the orifice 42 of the membrane 4.
- FIG. 8 is a sectional view along the plane CC indicated in FIG. 5.
- FIG. 8 shows the (greyed) liquid occupying the supply duct 77.
- FIG. 7 is a sectional view along the plane DD indicated in FIG. 5. This figure shows that the liquid occupies the entire free volume of the cavity 8 situated under the projecting element 5 and on both sides of the protruding element 5, between the centering tabs 52.
- FIG. 6 is a sectional view along the plane EE indicated in FIG. 5. This figure shows that the liquid occupies the entire free volume of the cavity 8 located on either side of the projecting element 5, between the centering tabs 52.
- the centering tabs 52 ensure that the projecting element 5 is always centered on the axis of the supply duct 77, and also on the axis of the orifice 42, to ensure a smooth flow of the liquid and an optimum seal at the orifice 42 of the membrane 4.
- the position of the peripheral sealing lips 44 on the skirt 43 of the membrane 4 reinforces the sealing capacity of the membrane. Indeed, the more these lips 44 are at a level close to the shoulder 78, and the risk of displacement and misalignment of the membrane 4 relative to the axis of the supply duct is reduced.
- the maximum sealing is ensured by the combination of the sealing lips 44 positioned in the vicinity of the shoulder 78, on the one hand, and the centering elements 51 (or 52) of the projecting element 5 forming a seat from the valve to the end of the piston, on the other hand.
