Definitions
- the invention relates to cams for built-up camshafts for the valve control of an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
- camshafts are known from the prior art.
- cams are sintered as individual parts ( DE 3 717 190 C2 ), forged ( DE 4 121 951 C1 ) or bent from metal strips, which are then welded. The cams are then pushed onto a shaft, connected to the shaft and thus installed to camshafts.
- the mounting of the cams on the support shaft takes place in different ways.
- the support shaft is slightly widened by rolling at the axial positions at which the cams are to be fastened, and subsequently the cams are pushed over the tube to the intended axial position corresponding to the widened region.
- a positive and / or frictional connection between the support shaft and cam is generated.
- camshafts of low weight and high strength.
- One way to save weight is to produce cams in which the cam, in addition to the required functional surfaces for contact with the cam follower and for producing the joint connection with the support shaft, requires as little volume and associated weight.
- Forged cams also have disadvantages regarding the production of lightweight cams. Such steel cams are forged and then annealed to achieve a certain microstructure, then the outer contour is hardened and the bore turned out. However, the cams are forged only with certain minimum radii at the end faces, so that the actually available as tread width is smaller than the cam width. The width that can not be used for the cam track depends greatly on the cam contour, the material used and other parameters and is usually in a range of 1 mm to about 1.5 mm. Forging dies by forging is a very preferred method in the art. One of the reasons for this is the very high strengths that can be achieved with such cams and the robustness of the method.
- Forging in this context is generally to be understood as meaning a process in which a pressure deformation of the material or of the workpiece takes place with mutually moving molds. This can be done cold or hot, depending on the requirements of the material to be formed.
- the extrusion press falls accordingly under the term forging. Accordingly, the production of the cam can be done in any known manner by means of cold or hot forging of a ring or a blank.
- Such cams are used in valve drives with roller taps, such as roller drag levers and roller rocker arms, and endure on the surface Hertzian surface pressures of greater than 1000 N / m 2 .
- the width of the cam running surface LB as shown in Fig. 7, given by the roller contact.
- the cam 1 has a circular receiving opening with its edge 4 for receiving the shaft with its axis of rotation 5.
- the cams 1 can only be forged with radii R at the end faces. This creates a loss volume 15, 15 'on the two side surfaces 16, 16' whose volume is dependent on the size of the Nockenkantenradius R.
- the object is to realize a cam by forging with less weight, without causing corresponding material losses, the weight reduction should be achieved within the possibly multi-stage forging process and this with high quality of the cam and high efficiency in the production.
- cams by forging according to the features of claim 1.
- dependent claims define further advantageous embodiments of the cams.
- the cams for built camshafts for the valve control of an internal combustion engine with a cam surrounding the outer contour as a cam surface, which each has a front side face with a receiving opening for a shaft, wherein the cam is formed by forging.
- An indentation is formed on at least one of the two side surfaces, wherein a cam edge is formed between the indentation and the outer contour such that the width of the cam is reduced in the region of the indentation and the cam edge always has a width which is greater than zero and the indentation have in the transition region to the cam edge Auslaufradien.
- a cam 1 is seen in plan view from the side surface ago.
- the cam 1 has a round receiving opening 2 for the camshaft with
- a cam 1 has an eccentrically arranged outer contour with a cam surface 3, by which which upon rotation of the cam about the axis of rotation 5 of the contact with the cam cam follower, his Movement on the valve transmits directly or indirectly, is actuated.
- the cam follower may be a roller pick, such as roller rocker arms, or roller rocker arms, the roller of which rolls on the cam surface 3. Shown is a typical for such cam shape with which the valve lift to be controlled is achieved.
- the cam outer contour is usually subdivided into a base circle region 20 and a stroke region.
- the cam 1 thus has a cam length L and a cam width B, which corresponds to the diameter of the base circle 20 of the cam.
- the cam length L is typically about 56 mm and the cam width B about 50 mm, wherein the recess 2, for example, has a diameter of 27 mm.
- the width LB of the cam surface 3 is typically about 12 mm.
- the edge 4 of the receiving opening 2 is preferably, as in the DE 4 121 951 C2 proposed to be pressed during assembly with the shaft over a portion of the shaft having a slightly enlarged diameter, which is slightly widened by knurling or rolling, so that a secure positive and form-liquid connection with the shaft is achieved.
- a cam insert 7, 7 ' is preferably simultaneously produced on at least one of the side faces 16, 16' of the cam, as is also shown in the sectional view AA in FIG. 2a.
- the indentations 7, 7 ' must not reach out to the outer contour of the cam running surface 3 of the cam.
- material is displaced and thereby saved. The saving is based on the fact that already the operating weight of the blank in the forging deformation is chosen smaller by a corresponding amount. It just is not just subsequently removed material to simply reduce the weight of the prefabricated component.
- a cam edge 6 remains along the cam surface 3 opposite the edge of the indentation 7, 7 ', which preferably reaches widths (19) in the range of 1.5 to 7% of the cam width B, as far as this value is greater than 1.5 mm, such an edge is preferably maintained over the entire circumference. Compliance with such a small cam edge 6 without imprinting is possible, for example, if the indentation as shown in Figs.
- cam edge 6 is not wider than 3mm.
- a larger value is adjustable, but then the benefits of material savings in terms of the cost of the higher tooling costs would be too low.
- Fig. 2a the two Eingargungsformen 7, 7 'are shown for comparison in a single figure, symmetrically to the plane of rotation 17 of the cam 1.
- the symmetrical arrangement and shaping of the indentations 7, 7' to the plane of rotation 17 is preferred, thus also the impression depth 8, 8 'is chosen the same.
- the material saving is illustrated in FIG. 2b by the hatched area.
- the indentations 7, 7 ' have a flat bottom area 18, 18', which is designed in particular to be aligned flat and perpendicular to the cam running area 3.
- the flow behavior of the material must be taken into account.
- the indentation 7, 7 'in the transition region to the cam edge 6 Auslaufradien 11, 12 have.
- These outlet radii are preferably designed in the range of 0.5 mm. Runout radii in the range of 0.5mm to 5mm, however, also proved beneficial.
- Both the inner outlet radius 11, 11 'as well as the outer outlet radius 12, 12' can merge into one another and thereby form an arcuate embossing transition surface 10, 10 '.
- an inclined embossing transition surface 10, 10' is provided in its edge region, which is enclosed by the inner outlet radius 11, 11 'and the outer outlet radius 12, 12'.
- This embossing transition surface 10, 10 ' is shown in cross-section in Figs. 2a and 2b. The surface is arranged inclined relative to the bottom region 18, 18 'of the indentation 7, 7'.
- the average angle of inclination 13, 13 'of the embossing transition surface 10, 10' relative to the original cam side surface 16, 16 ' is in this case in a range between 20 ° and 60 °.
- the embossing depth 8, 8 ' should be as large as possible in order to displace as much material as possible and thus save.
- the achievable values are achieved on the one hand by the limits set by high-quality forging and massive forming and on the other hand by the necessary strength of the joint between shaft and cam 1.
- the depth 8, 8 'of the indentation 7, 7' is such set that a Nocken Stahl 9 is provided in the region of the receiving opening 2, so that the necessary assembly strength of the cam is not exceeded for a given width of the cam surface.
- the forging operation of the cam is preferably carried out in a follow-on composite tool, in which sections of defined weight are cut by a rod, in a first forming process a bale-shaped preform, in a second forming process the outer cam shape, comprising the indentation 7, 7 ', the cam outer contour 3 and the cam edge 6, forged with an impression for the recess 2 and punched out the recess 2 in the last forming step.
- the forming takes place depending on the material warm or cold. For particularly large cams or materials that are particularly difficult to shape, it may be expedient to provide an additional forming stage to achieve the impression 7, 7 '.
- Such cams can be added to the support shaft of the camshaft by various methods. So the connection can alternatively to the in the DE 4 121 951 C2 described form-adhesion also by welding, soldering, gluing or another process done. Depending on the selected joining method, the forged cam can be reworked accordingly.
- the cam surface 3 is cured, the receiving opening 2 rotated and / or cleared and often provided with a special inlet chamfer.
- a peripheral corrugation or small toothing is preferably introduced into the receiving opening 2 of the cam.
- the cam along the cam surface 3 is ground.

Generally, it is desired to have built-in camshafts of low weight and high strength. Forged cams also have disadvantages regarding the production of lightweight cams. There are various applications for internal combustion engines, for which camshafts with forged steel cams are practically required. However, forging has not yet been considered because of the limitations on manufacturability of any molds for making lightweight cams. The limited deformability of the steel can lead to undesirable stresses in the material with correspondingly complicated shapes during the forging process, but in particular to intolerable cracking. Additional Umformstufen with possibly even necessary Zwischenglühoperationen more expensive the cam.
Forging in this context is generally to be understood as meaning a process in which a pressure deformation of the material or of the workpiece takes place with mutually moving molds. This can be done cold or hot, depending on the requirements of the material to be formed. The extrusion press falls accordingly under the term forging. Accordingly, the production of the cam can be done in any known manner by means of cold or hot forging of a ring or a blank. When discussing forging in the description and also in the claims relating to the cams, the term is to be understood as defined herein.
Such cams are used in valve drives with roller taps, such as roller drag levers and roller rocker arms, and endure on the surface Hertzian surface pressures of greater than 1000 N / m 2 . Here, the width of the cam running surface LB, as shown in Fig. 7, given by the roller contact. The
It is an object of the invention to eliminate at least some disadvantages of the prior art. In particular, the object is to realize a cam by forging with less weight, without causing corresponding material losses, the weight reduction should be achieved within the possibly multi-stage forging process and this with high quality of the cam and high efficiency in the production.
The object is achieved according to the invention by the formation of cams by forging according to the features of
The object is achieved according to the invention that the cams for built camshafts for the valve control of an internal combustion engine with a cam surrounding the outer contour as a cam surface, which each has a front side face with a receiving opening for a shaft, wherein the cam is formed by forging. An indentation is formed on at least one of the two side surfaces, wherein a cam edge is formed between the indentation and the outer contour such that the width of the cam is reduced in the region of the indentation and the cam edge always has a width which is greater than zero and the indentation have in the transition region to the cam edge Auslaufradien.
By the inventive approach, it is possible to realize a cam with forging, which is lighter in weight and at the same time no material loss occurs in the production according to the material savings by the imprint and it is still possible the mounting width of the cam in the recessed area for the shaft to such Choose to ensure a secure connection to the shaft. In addition, the cam in high quality be made crack-free. By saving material in the production and by the simultaneous realization of the imprint in the side surfaces of the cam simultaneously with the forging process further cost optimization is achieved. The cost optimization is achieved in both multi-stage and single-stage forging operations.

For common values of cams for passenger cars of a cam width B and a base circle diameter of 50mm, the
In Fig. 2a, the two
The material saving is illustrated in FIG. 2b by the hatched area.
The forging operation of the cam is preferably carried out in a follow-on composite tool, in which sections of defined weight are cut by a rod, in a first forming process a bale-shaped preform, in a second forming process the outer cam shape, comprising the
