- the profiled pin member 19 forming the fourth engagement member is positioned at one end of an arm 20, the other end of which is pivotally connected with the rail member of the second fitting member 12 at a distance from the end thereof, at which the profiled pin member 15 is positioned.
- the profiled pin member 19 is generally of circular cross-sectional form, but is provided underneath its head part 19a with a circumferential groove 19b.
- a releasable blocking means for the engagement of profiled pin member 19 in the hole 17 in the block member 16 forming the third engagement means comprises a spring wire member 21 arranged underneath the block member 16 and crossing both of the holes 17 and 18.
- This locking engagement of the spring wire member 21 with the circumferential groove 19b of the profiled pin member 19 may be released, by pressing on the part of the spring wire member 21 crossing underneath the hole 18 in the block member 16 by means of any suitable tool, such as a screw driver or the like, introduced into the hole 18.
- the sash component 10 may be connected with main frame component 4 as shown in figs. 6 to 8 by the engagement of profiled pin member 15 forming the second engagement member in the dovetailed recess 8 forming the first engagement means.
- this engagement will only be possible with a certain range of angular positions of the sash component 10 with respect to the main frame component 4 surrounding the angular position, at which the sash component 10 is substantially at right angles with respect to the main frame component 4. For other angular positions outside this range the sash component 10 will be retained against disengagement from the main frame component 4.
- the sash component 10 With the sash component 10 retained in engagement with the main frame component 4 in the manner described the sash component 10 may now be turned into a lower angular position as shown in fig. 9, in which the profiled pin member 19 provided by the arm 20 may be allowed to engage the hole 17 in the block member 16 of the first fitting member to become retained in a releasably locked engagement therewith.
- the sash component 10 may subsequently be turned into a closed position with respect to the main fame component and locked in this position by further conventional locking means not forming part of the invention.
- the sash component 10 When it is desired to have the sash component 10 separated from the main frame component, e.g. for manipulation of the main frame component in connection with its installation in a window opening in a wall of a building without any risk of damaging the sash component including the glazing element or elements carried by it, the sash component will first be opened with respect to the main frame component to a position offering exposure of the hole 18 in the block member 16 of the third engagement means to allow introduction of a tool for operation of the spring wire member 21 for disengagement of the profiled pin member 19 from its engagement in the hole 17.
- the sash component 10 may be turned again into an angular position with respect to the main frame component 4 within the range, in which disengagement of the profiled pin member 15 from the dove-tailed recess 8 is possible.
- the fitting assembly may without substantial modification be applied to a centre-pivoted structure with a horizontal pivot axis and also for releasable locking the sash or wing component with respect to the main frame component of a side-hung window structure, in which the sash component is connected with the main frame component for pivotal motion about a vertical axis.
- the first and second fitting members of the invention may be interposed between the top members and the bottom members of the sash and main frame components.
