Zufolge dieser Ausgestaltung sind die Rückstellkräfte des komprimiert in der Umhüllungsfolie aufgenommenen Schaumstoffstreifens so verringert, dass der eingepackte Streifen in dieser komprimierten Stellung einen der dekomprimierten Querschnittsform adäquaten Querschnitt aufweist, so in bevorzugter Ausgestaltung einen rechteckigen, bevorzugt annähernd quadratischen Querschnitt. Der komprimierte Streifen braucht nicht in Richtung quer zur Komprimierung aus, was die Handhabung des komprimiert in der Umhüllung gefassten Streifens erleichtert. Die Kanten des Rechteckquerschnitts können hierbei durchaus verrundet sein. Der diesbezügliche Radius beträgt jedoch nur wenige Millimeter, so insbesondere 1 - 2 mm. Die Dekomprimierung nach Aufreißen der Umhüllungsfolie erfolgt in bekannter Weise nur in einer Erstreckungsrichtung. Durch die vorgeschlagene Ausgestaltung des Schaumstoffstreifens wird eine komprimierte, umhüllte Stellung desselben erreicht, in der die quer zur Dekomprimierungs- bzw. Aufstellrichtung gemessene Breite des Schaumstoffstreifens der Breite in der unkomprimierten Stellung im Wesentlichen entspricht. Dies kann zu einer vereinfachten Handhabung bspw. beim Einsetzen des komprimierten Schaumstoffstreifens in eine Bauwerksfuge führen. Der Schaumstoffstreifen ist weiter so eingestellt, dass dieser bereits bei einer Komprimierung von nur 10 % schlagregendicht ist (nach DIN 18543). Die nach Aufreißen der Umhüllungsfolie resultierende Aufstellung des Streifens kann demzufolge bis zu 90 % der ursprünglichen Streifendicke betragen.
