Definitions
- the invention relates to an internal combustion engine having a cylinder having a crankcase, which is covered by a block formed in gas exchange valves and gas exchange channels having cylinder head with insertion of a cylinder head gasket, wherein in each of the cylinders via a connecting rod on a crank shaft mounted in the crankcase cranked piston is movable, wherein the internal combustion engine comprises a cooling system and a lubrication system with an oil pump, and the cooling system has at least one cylinder head ring cooling space directly interacting with a cylinder crankcase space and an overlying cylinder head cooling space.
- Such an internal combustion engine is from the DE 203 16 124 U1 known.
- This internal combustion engine has a cylinder head, in which an effective cooling is ensured even at high power output of the internal combustion engine. This is achieved in particular in that a third return line for the cooling medium is arranged approximately parallel to a first and second return line along the cylinder head row.
- the invention has for its object to provide an internal combustion engine with a high number of identical parts, which can be interpreted for a variety of purposes.
- This object is achieved in that the cooling system of the internal combustion engine is charged with either water or oil.
- This solution is based on the finding that an oil-cooled internal combustion engine has the advantage that only a single fuel, namely oil, is present in the internal combustion engine and this fuel is used for the cooling and lubrication of the internal combustion engine.
- Such an internal combustion engine has the advantage that it can be designed particularly compact with integrated cooling system in the form of an oil cooler and a blower.
- Another advantage is that only a single fuel needs to be monitored and controlled and, for example, when used in areas prone to frost, no special preservation measures are required when not in use.
- a water-cooled internal combustion engine has the advantage that with the coolant water due to the lower temperature level than in oil more effective cooling and thus a lower operating temperature of the internal combustion engine is possible. This is advantageous in view of special requirements for low specific fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions. As a result, depending on the purpose, a water-cooled internal combustion engine or an oil-cooled internal combustion engine must be provided. For economic reasons, however, it is not possible for an engine manufacturer to provide two completely differently designed internal combustion engines in one performance class. This problem is solved by the present invention by charging the cooling system of an internal combustion engine either with water or with oil.
- the internal combustion engine is constructed so that the crankcase cooling chamber, the cylinder head ring cooling chamber and the cylinder head cooling chamber are identical in both cooling versions, while the coolant supply and coolant discharge to these cooling chambers are at least partially the same and optionally only connected differently.
- the same crankcase and the same cylinder head are used for both cooling versions, the different to be edited.
- the attachments are the same except for the cooling-specific attachments in both internal combustion engines.
- Fig. 1 shows the oil-cooled embodiment of the internal combustion engine according to the invention.
- the internal combustion engine has a crankcase 1, in which a crankshaft is rotatably mounted, are articulated in the exemplary running engine four pistons via connecting rods, which are movable in respective cylinders.
- the crankcase 1 is on the cylinder side of a cylinder head 2 and the crankshaft side of an oil pan 3 completed.
- the cylinder head 2 is in turn closed by a valve cover 4 and laterally, a fresh gas manifold 5 and an exhaust manifold 6 are attached to the cylinder head 2, which in turn are interconnected via an exhaust gas turbocharger 7.
- a starter motor 8 is arranged below the exhaust gas turbocharger 7, the starter pinion can be brought into contact with a flywheel attached to the crankshaft, wherein the flywheel in a SAE flange 9, to which, for example, a transmission can be attached, is arranged.
- a cover 10 is attached, behind which a drive, for example in the form of a toothed belt, is arranged for a camshaft. Before the cover 10, a pulley 11 is bolted to the crankshaft.
- the water-cooled internal combustion engine shown in FIG. 2 does not differ at least externally from the oil-cooled internal combustion engine.
- an oil cooler 12 is mounted in the internal combustion engine according to FIG. 1, through which cooling air is conveyed by a fan 13.
- the cooling air is also also conveyed past the cylinder head 2 and through channels through the cylinder head 2 through this and occurs on the gas exchange side in the area between the fresh gas manifold 5 and the exhaust manifold 6.
- the fan 13 is driven by a pulley 14 from the pulley with the involvement of a tension roller 15.
- FIG. 2 of the V-belt 14 In contrast to the oil-cooled internal combustion engine of FIG. 1 drives in the water-cooled internal combustion engine gem.
- the V-belt 14 is tensioned via an alternator 17, which is integrated in the fan 13 in the oil-cooled version.
- an adapter housing 19 is created.
- the adapter housing 19 extends axially between the water pump 16 and thedebergthermostatgephaseuse 18. As a secondary function, it is used for alternator suspension and for branching a partial flow of the cooling water for engine lubricating oil cooler admission.
- the cooling circuit of the oil-cooled internal combustion engine is reproduced at least with the essential parts.
- the coolant enters a first crankcase cooling chamber 21 and is forwarded by the latter into the remaining cylinder crankcase cooling chambers 21.
- the oil passes through transitions 22 in the cylinder head gasket in cylinder head cooling chambers 23, wherein the oil for intensive cooling of the thermally highly loaded areas by appropriate design of the crankcase cooling chambers 21 and the arrangement and design of the transitions 22 and the connection channels 24 a, 24 b explained below is influenced in the cylinder head gasket with respect to the flow direction and flow rate.
- the oil is passed through the V-shaped connecting channels 24a, 24b in a cylinder head cooling space 28 and in oil passages 25a, 25b, branching off from the oil passage 25b branch passages 26 for lubricating the moving parts of the valve train.
- the oil is derived from the oil passages 25a, 25b via the discharge channels 27a, 27b, 27c, 27d on the opposite cylinder head side.
- the coolant is discharged from the cylinder head cooling space 28 on the cylinder head side opposite the connection channels via a discharge line 29.
- the discharge line 29 is connected via a transverse line 30 with the discharge channels 27 a, 27 b, 27 c, 27 d and the derived coolant is via a thermostat 31 either in a heat exchanger or directly back into the cooling circuit or Passed oil circuit.
- the rear crankcase cooling chamber 21 is also connected via a branch line 32 with the discharge line 29.
- the water-cooled cooling circuit is shown in the essential parts, for better clarity, the cooling circuit and its components in the region of the parting plane crankcase - cylinder head, as shown in Figs. 3a and 3b, are shown spaced apart from each other.
- the coolant passes water through an end access 21 in the first crankcase cooling chamber 21 and is forwarded by this in the remaining crankcase cooling chambers 21.
- the water passes through transitions 22 in the cylinder head gasket into the cylinder head cooling chambers 23.
- the water is used for intensive cooling of the thermally highly stressed areas by appropriate design of the crankcase cooling chambers 21 and the arrangement and formation of the transitions 22 in the cylinder head gasket with respect to the flow direction and Flow rate influenced.
- the water passes essentially via the transfer openings 33 (1x per cylinder) and in particular for good flow through the cylinder head cooling space 28 existing V-shaped connecting channels 24a and 24b in the cylinder head cooling chamber 28, from which it flows through the same cylinder head end face on the openings
- the opening 34 can also be dispensed with and the outlet at a directly adjacent core-lock opening 36 on the cylinder longitudinal wall, which is arranged in extension to the outlet opening 35, emerge.
- the water channel 25 c which is identical to the oil passage 26 b, is supplied with water via supply passages 24 e and 24 f, which correspond to the discharge passages 24 a and 24 c and are in operative connection with the crankcase cooling space 21.
- the water channel 26c fulfills the function of the valve stem cooling in addition to the oil channel 25b (FIGS. 3a and 3b), not shown here, and it vents the cooling system such that the water discharged via an outlet opening 35 above the opening 34 flows in the direction of the cooling water thermostat.
- an amount of water for example, 50 liters per minute is promoted in the access 20a.
- an amount of water for example, 10 liters per minute is conveyed into an oil cooler line, not shown, which extends along the crankcase cooling chambers 21 and feeds an integrated on the internal combustion engine oil cooler. From the oil cooler, the water is supplied via the cylinder head cooling chamber 28 to the cooling water thermostat.
- the cylinder head cooling space 28 may be arranged over the entire area of the cylinder head floor area.
- the cylinder head cooling chamber 28 thus has the largest possible cooling surface, which is broken only by the corresponding passages for the gas exchange valves or gas exchange channels and other passages such as for the bumpers for actuating the gas exchange valves.
- the holder for the casting core can be configured unchanged as in the meandering design, it being sufficient to provide core hole openings 36 on the opposite cylinder head longitudinal sides.
- the cylinder head cooling space 28 can be made in one piece with the cylinder head ring cooling space 23.
- the two cooling chambers are formed as far as possible in one piece and this has particular advantages in the production by no further connection channels must be incorporated.

Description
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine having a cylinder having a crankcase, which is covered by a block formed in gas exchange valves and gas exchange channels having cylinder head with insertion of a cylinder head gasket, wherein in each of the cylinders via a connecting rod on a crank shaft mounted in the crankcase cranked piston is movable, wherein the internal combustion engine comprises a cooling system and a lubrication system with an oil pump, and the cooling system has at least one cylinder head ring cooling space directly interacting with a cylinder crankcase space and an overlying cylinder head cooling space.

The invention has for its object to provide an internal combustion engine with a high number of identical parts, which can be interpreted for a variety of purposes.
This object is achieved in that the cooling system of the internal combustion engine is charged with either water or oil. For economic reasons, however, it is not possible for an engine manufacturer to provide two completely differently designed internal combustion engines in one performance class. This problem is solved by the present invention by charging the cooling system of an internal combustion engine either with water or with oil. In this case, the internal combustion engine is constructed so that the crankcase cooling chamber, the cylinder head ring cooling chamber and the cylinder head cooling chamber are identical in both cooling versions, while the coolant supply and coolant discharge to these cooling chambers are at least partially the same and optionally only connected differently. The same crankcase and the same cylinder head are used for both cooling versions, the different to be edited. Also, the attachments are the same except for the cooling-specific attachments in both internal combustion engines. Thus, the highest possible number of identical parts is achieved for both cooling versions, so that it is possible as a result to produce an internal combustion engine in a power class with different cooling systems economically parallel.

Fig. 1 shows the oil-cooled embodiment of the internal combustion engine according to the invention. In contrast to the oil-cooled internal combustion engine of FIG. 1 drives in the water-cooled internal combustion engine gem. Another embodiment sees the adoption of existing in other internal combustion engine components such as
In Figs. 3a and 3b, the cooling circuit of the oil-cooled internal combustion engine is reproduced at least with the essential parts. From the cylinder
From the water pump, an amount of water, for example, 50 liters per minute is promoted in the
In an alternative embodiment, the cylinder
Furthermore, the cylinder
