Description

The invention relates to an arrangement of an armrest for a motor vehicle and more particularly to an arrangement of an armrest located next to a body element which comprises a glazed element.
As a general rule, motor vehicles comprise, in particular in the places situated at the front, a part of the interior trim of the door which forms an armrest for the forearm of the passengers. This armrest can be arranged at different heights depending on the desired position of the forearm.
Usually, the upper part of the door casing forms a substantially rounded surface on which it is possible, when the window is completely open, to support a part of the arm, this position is often used by certain conductors. Some people only place the forearm on the upper part of the door casing, without extending the elbow towards the outside of the vehicle, while holding the steering wheel. In order to be able to guarantee this type of position, the upper limit of the door casing, which also forms the lower limit of the glazed part, must be placed at a height sufficient to allow a comfortable position. In this position, the glass must not exceed the upper limit of the door casing so as not to rest the arm on the edge of said glass, which would be uncomfortable.
This driving position therefore influences the position of the upper limit of the door casing and therefore limits the aesthetic changes in the vehicles, and in particular the extension of the lateral glazed parts downwards.
In the case where the glass surface is enlarged and therefore the upper part of the door casing lowered, this driving position will no longer be possible, the upper part of the door casing no longer being at a height compatible with comfort criteria . In addition, if the glass surface drops sufficiently low, it can no longer be completely integrated into the door panel during maximum opening, the glass being larger than the volume provided for the receive in the door casing. Therefore the driver wishing to take the position where his elbow is located outside the vehicle or his forearm disposed on the upper part of the door casing, will be supported on the edge of the window down.
When the window is in the partially or fully closed position or the glass surface cannot descend, it is possible to position the arm against the inside of the glass surface, pressing on the upper edge of the door casing, the surface d support is then limited. In addition, this rim being generally of rounded shape, the arm is likely to slide more easily, which can be dangerous when driving the vehicle.
If the upper limit of the door casing is not compatible with a good position of the arm, in particular if the surface is not wide enough, accessories are proposed, as defined in the publication FR-A -2662402, to fit on the upper limit of the door casing or on the edge of the glass to form an armrest. Accessories of this type are suitable for vehicles which have not been designed to receive it, which generates problems of access to controls located on the door panel, such as for example window controls or for access storage located in the door. The installation of such an accessory can also disturb the operation of the opening and closing of the window.
The use of an accessory adaptable to different types of vehicle prohibits equipping it with additional control, or ventilation means intended, for example, for demisting the glazed surface.
In order to overcome these problems, the invention relates to an arrangement of an armrest arranged in front of a glazed part, said glazed part extending below the level of the armrest and said armrest being independent of the glazed surface. The invention also relates to the arrangement of an armrest which includes additional services, such as for example intended to ventilate the glazed surface.
According to a characteristic of the invention, the lower limit of the glass surface is located below a lower delimitation of the armrest, said lower delimitation of the armrest and the lower limit of the glass surface defining a lower glass space.

In the description which follows, the reference frame V, L, T will be used corresponding respectively to the Vertical, Longitudinal and Transversal directions. The lower and upper terms will be understood in the direction V. The front and rear terms will be understood in relation to the conventional location of the front part of a vehicle in the longitudinal direction L.
As shown in Figure 1, the vehicle has a side member 1 which defines the side of said vehicle, this side member 1 may consist of a part of the vehicle structure and / or at least one opening. The vehicle also includes a windshield 2 and a dashboard 3. The side element 1 may include trim elements. The lateral element 1 also comprises at least one glazed surface 10 which extends between a lower limit 11 and an upper limit 12. The lower limit 11 is formed for example by an upper part 7 of a door casing 6. The limitations according to the direction L of the glazed surface 10 can be defined for example by the edges of the opening or by any other limit. It is also possible to use, without changing the object of the invention, a glazed surface 10 consisting of at least two glazed elements comprising a separation in the direction V.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1 an armrest 20 is carried by an opening 4. The armrest 20 has the general shape of an arch linked to the opening by its front 21 and rear 22 ends, a space 5 more or less important being provided between the glazed surface 10 and one side 23 of the armrest 20 which faces it, as shown in FIG. 2.
The glass surface 10, in the embodiment shown in Figure 1, is movable in the direction V. The glass surface 10 being too high to be fully retractable in the box 6 of the opening 4, a glazed space lower 15 is kept between the armrest 20 and the lower limit 11 of the glazed surface 10 defined by the upper part 7 of the door casing 6. The lower limit 11 of the glazed surface 10 can be of curved or rectilinear shape. As shown in Figure 3, the upper limit 12 of the glass surface 10 does not necessarily have a shape complementary to that of the armrest 20, a space 16 may be present in certain places between the upper limit 12 of the glass and the lower delimitation 24 of the armrest 20. To facilitate understanding of the invention we will speak of lower glass space 15 for this part between the armrest 20 and the lower limit 11 of the glass surface 10, the purpose sought being not to exceed the edge of the glass above the armrest 20, in the location of the arm area so as not to interfere with the passenger. The window may possibly slightly protrude the armrest 20 at the front and / or at the rear of the latter without changing the effectiveness of the invention.
The armrest 20 also includes air outlets 26 arranged so as to distribute an air flow over the major part of the glazed surface 10. Such an arrangement of the air outlets 26 allows inter alia good demisting of this surface glazed 10 and thus obtain better visibility. In order to control the air flow and to select the active air outlets, the armrest includes means (not shown) for controlling and / or selecting these air outlets 26. These means can be mechanical or electrical . Other types of control (not shown) can be arranged on the armrest 20 such as, for example, the window regulator or mirror adjustment controls.
The armrest 20 can form a conduit for directing the air flow towards the rear of the vehicle.
The armrest 20 can also form a gripping means to close the door on which it is fixed. In another embodiment, not shown, the upper part of the door casing 7, and therefore the lower limit 11, can be formed by an anti-intrusion bar. The anti-intrusion bars being intended to limit the penetration into the passenger compartment, of a vehicle striking the door during a lateral collision. In such an embodiment, the lower part of the glazed surface 10 is therefore reinforced by the anti-intrusion bar, the armrest 20 forming a complementary reinforcement.
