Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for processing mailpieces provided with a faulty recipient address, in which the faulty recipient address is determined from a recorded image of a mailing surface.
  • Address errors are generally present when an outdated or permanently invalid address has been applied to the mailpieces.
  • the German Offenlegungsschrift DE 196 44 163 A1 describes a method for online processing of broadcasts to be forwarded.
  • the recipient's name and address, sender's address, forwarding labels and return notices of a delivery person are read in on a mail item while the item of mail is in a buffer located.
  • the details of the recipient are checked in a name-address database and in case of non-compliance in a forwarding file, and the programs leaving the buffer are optionally printed with a changed address and forwarding instructions.
  • Each return identified by recognizing a pre-notification or a delivery note as return is also the return reason, if known, printed in plain text on the shipments, and a database entry with sender address and new and old recipient address is created for each shipment. If requested by the sender, address change reports will be sent to him regularly.
  • WO 02/093323 A2 a method in which a sender of a mailing is notified when the recipient's address has been changed in a routing system.
  • the mail items are provided by the sender with a code that also contains an address in addition to him and the recipient identifying information to be sent to the notifications of changes in the recipient address electronically.
  • the known methods make it possible to detect mailpieces to be forwarded by matching the recipient address located on the mail item with addresses present in a forwarding database and to determine changed addresses. They also allow the sender to be informed automatically about the change of address.
  • the recipient may be undecided or deceased unknown, or a company used as a recipient may be extinguished.
  • the recipient address applied to a mailpiece may be an invalid address at any time.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object to enable fast and reliable processing of mail with address errors, taking into account prior dispatches of the sender.
  • the invention provides that a method for processing mailpieces provided with a faulty recipient address, in which the defective recipient address is determined from a captured image of a surface of the mailpieces, is carried out such that a code containing information on preemptive instructions on the surface of the Is detected, the erroneous address is compared with address information in at least one selected in dependence on the pre-orders from a plurality of databases database and a forwarding information depending on the result of the Comparison and depending on the pre-orders on the mail is applied.
  • a notification about the result of the comparison of the faulty recipient address with the addresses in one or more databases is transmitted as a function of the advance instructions.
  • the present invention thus provides an advantageous method which extends the known method for the subsequent addressing of broadcasts by taking into account in advance the sender's advance instructions.
  • the comparison according to the invention of erroneous recipient addresses with addresses in one or more databases is adapted dynamically as a function of the advance directives, so that the method is implemented as quickly as possible.
  • the pre-instructions contain information about the sender's desired fate of a wrongly addressed item and information on whether, to what extent and in what manner a notification about the reason for the address error is to be transmitted.
  • the advance orders are advantageously applied as a code to the mailpieces in order to achieve standardization and increase the readability in an automated processing process.
  • the code containing the pre-instructions is a matrix code which, in addition to the pre-instructions, has at least one code Sender identifying information and possibly other information.
  • the possible shipment destinies include a delivery due to a corrected recipient address, a return and a destruction of incorrectly addressed shipments.
  • the destruction is only for advertising and press shipments in question, which are sent in large numbers as identical shipments and the sender does not attach importance to a return of the shipments in the event of an address error.
  • an alignment of the erroneous recipient address with addresses in one or more databases is provided in order to determine a reason for the address error and to correct the address.
  • the scope of the reconciliation is based on the advance dispositions depending on the information about which shipment destiny the sender desires in the event of an address error and to what extent he would like to receive information about the reason for the address error.
  • forwarding information in the form of the corrected address is preferably applied to the mailpiece.
  • the pre-order includes the transmission of a notification of an address change
  • a message including the erroneous and the corrected recipient address is transmitted to an address specified by the pre-disposition.
  • This address is preferably an electronic address, such as an e-mail address.
  • the notification via another user interface, for example a web portal.
  • Shipments that are correctable for a database that contains errors and that does not contain a match to the valid addresses Have recipient address, are supplied after matching the address with the addresses in the database containing valid addresses further processing using the inventive method, while shipments whose recipient address matches one of the addresses contained in this database, get into an ordinary processing process for delivery.
  • the erroneous recipient addresses are compared with address information in at least one relocation database, which contains outdated and new addresses of recipients, depending on the prior instructions.
  • the database may include information regarding all address changes in a particular area and may include the addresses for which no forwarding order exists. However, it is preferred to set up two relocation databases, one of which contains addresses for which there is a forwarding order, and the other database contains information about address changes without retransmissions.
  • An additional comparison of the recipient address with the relocation database containing the addresses in the address change without resendings is performed if the pre-orders contain an indication of an address change.
  • the sender it is also possible for the sender to have a forwarding of transmissions in the event of a known new address of the receiver. In this case, a comparison is also made with this database.
  • the new address associated with the obsolete addresses is determined. If there is a forwarding order of the addressee not suppressed by the sender's prior instructions and / or a sender's forwarding order, forwarding information in the form of the new address is applied to the mail item and the item is delivered to this address. If the pre-instructions provide for the return or destruction of the shipment in the event of an address change, forwarding information is applied to the shipment in the form of a return address or annotation indicated in the pre-instructions, and the shipment is delivered or destroyed at the return address. The return address may differ from the sender address.
  • a notification containing the outdated and the new address is transmitted to an address specified in the pre-instructions, if the pre-order includes transmitting a corresponding notification.
  • the erroneous recipient address is compared with addresses in a death database containing addresses of deceased recipients or extinct companies.
  • This comparison is preferably carried out when it emerges from the determined advance decision that the sender would like to be informed of the reason of the error in the event of an address error even if there is no change of address. If the comparison results in a match of the erroneous recipient address with an address stored in the death database, a notification that the recipient has died or the recipient company has expired is sent to an address specified in the advance notice. Depending on the desired consignment fate, forwarding information in the form of a return address specified in the advance ruling or in the form of an extermination note is also applied to the item.
  • a very advantageous implementation of the method according to the invention is further characterized in that a comparison of the erroneous recipient address with addresses in a second database after comparing the recipient address with addresses in a first database is only performed if the comparison based on the first database no match has yielded the recipient address with an address contained in this database.
  • the image of the consignment address surface containing the recipient address and the code containing the pre-instructions are detected by the deliverer with the aid of a scanner and transmitted to a central server.
  • the comparisons of the erroneous recipient address with the address information in various databases are then made, as explained above, in the area of the central server, after the addresses have been determined from the image.
  • the advantage is achieved that a transport of the shipments to a distribution center during processing initially deleted and only then takes place, if the shipment destiny and the changed address are known, which is transmitted from the central server to a computer to be operated by the deliverer and by the deliverer, for example, based on a printed with the new address label is applied to the mail. For consignments which have to be destroyed in accordance with the pre-orders, no further transport is required.
  • the address error is determined by a delivery person at the delivery location, there is also the possibility of creating delivery notes and also of transmitting them to the central server. These can advantageously be taken into account in the identification of the database comparisons to be performed and in the determination of their sequence. For example, if an address match is made with a plurality of databases containing the death database because of the existing preemptive instructions, the comparison of the erroneous recipient address with the address data in the death database can be made before all other database comparisons if the deliverer indicates in the delivery notice that the Receiver should have died.
  • the invention thus provides an advantageous method which makes it possible to comprehensively take into account prior dispatches of the sender in the processing of mailpieces and which is distinguished by rapid and effective execution.
  • the method according to the invention provides that advance instructions of the sender in the form of a code are applied to the mailpieces.
  • this is any machine-readable code that can carry a sufficient amount of information, it is possible that the code contains only an identifying the sender information and the advance instructions of the sender are stored under this indication in a database and can be retrieved.
  • the code used for the franking is a matrix code (DMC) containing information about the Customer, an identification number for unique identification of a consignment, a billing number, an indication of franking and the date of franking contains.
  • DMC matrix code
  • the matrix code is suitably encrypted in order to prevent misuse of the franking method.
  • DMC matrix code
  • the customer should preferably subscribe to these services from a delivery company and conclude a corresponding contract with the delivery company. Unauthorized use of pre-injunctions by third parties can be ruled out using the encrypted matrix code (DMC).
  • DMC encrypted matrix code
  • the matrix code (DMC) contains at least information about the pre-orders subscribed by the customer.
  • the method according to the invention also makes it possible to specify a return address that is different from the sender address for incorrectly addressed mailpieces, and it requires the specification of an address to which notifications are to be transmitted if the transmission is desired.
  • the preliminary rulings thus contain, in addition to information on various acts to be carried out, also different customer-specific information, and are defined in a contract between the customer and the delivery company.
  • the matrix code (DMC) thus contains an identification of the variant of the advance directive and an identification of the contractual part.
  • the part of the matrix code (DMC) which identifies the variant of the advance directive can thus be deduced which actions are to be carried out by a delivery company in the event of an address error. These actions affect the fate of misdirected shipments as well as the transmission of notifications.
  • DMC matrix code
  • the number of notifications in the scope of the notifications results from the different needs of the customers of a delivery company.
  • the contract part of the matrix code (DMC) can be taken from the address to which notifications are to be transmitted.
  • the address is preferably an electronic address, such as an e-mail address.
  • the contract part contains the indication of the return address to which returns are to be delivered. This address is a valid postal address, which may differ from the sender address.
  • the possible address errors can be assigned to three different groups with regard to the possible fate of incorrectly addressed programs.
  • the first group (Group 1) comprises address errors that are attributable to a correctable defect in the address, such as an orthographic inadequacy.
  • the second group (group 2) can be assigned address errors that arise because an outdated address has been applied to the mail item for which there is a forwarding or forwarding order for forwarding the item to a changed address.
  • the third group (group 3) contains all address errors which are contained neither in group 1, nor in group 2, and thus includes address errors which prevent a delivery of the programs to a destination address determined on the basis of the applied receiver address. Such address errors occur when the recipient address is an outdated and replaced by a new address address for which there is no forwarding order, if the recipient died or the recipient company has expired or the recipient is unknown.
  • the group 3 can of course be subdivided further and differentiated into a group 3a and a group 3b.
  • the group 3a is thereby assigned address errors that result from the application of an outdated address for which a changed address can be determined, and the group 3b includes address errors that result from erroneous addresses that can not be corrected and for which none Address change can be determined.

  • the transmission of a notification in the table regardless of the content of the notification, marked with the suffix "+ Info", and group 3 is not divided into groups 3a and 3b.
  • a possible variant 2 differs from the variant 1 in that no notifications are transmitted to the sender. This corresponds largely to the procedure in the case in which there are no pre-orders of the sender, but includes the possibility of using the advance directives to specify a return address that differs from the sender address.
  • a variant 3 is preferably offered only for advertising mail with wrapping (Wm) and corresponds to variant 1 for letters (BS).
  • Variant 4 can be used for letters (BS) and for advertising mail with wrapping (Wm). It results in the following way:
  • a possible variant 5 for advertising shipments with and without wrapping includes the following combinations:
  • this memo may contain only a single letter - for example, a large "P".
  • the mailpieces are first transported from the job site to a mail center in which letters intended for a larger region are collected.
  • the items are sorted and transported to local delivery points, where they are handed over to a deliverer and delivered by him.
  • Address errors can be detected both by the deliverer during the preparation or during the delivery process, as well as the sorting of the items in a mail center.
  • FIG. 1 the sequence of the recognition of an address error and the transfer of incorrectly addressed items or of delivery reports to an evaluation system is shown, which can perform a processing of the items or the item data according to the inventive method.
  • the shipments are either delivered to a mail center or handed over to a delivery agent at a delivery center (105 or 105 ').
  • the recipient addresses applied to the mailpieces are automatically read in and compared with address data in a database containing all valid addresses of the region assigned to the letter center.
  • the database should also - with a corresponding note - contain outdated addresses for which there is a referral order. Further, the sorter should have a system capable of correcting detected erroneous addresses based on the information in the database. This makes it possible to distinguish address errors from groups 1 and 2 in the sorting device, and the errors can thus be assigned to one of the groups 1 to 3.
  • the matrix code After detecting an address error and assigning the address errors, the matrix code is read in and evaluated to detect the presence of preemptive instructions (115).
  • the program is sent for processing according to a standard procedure, which is not described here in detail (125).
  • the consignment will be marked with an appropriate that it is a group 2 or group 3 address error (145).
  • the consignments are then discharged according to their note at different points (150) and fed in separate streams to the evaluation system (155).
  • the detected addresses and the detected matrix code (DMC) are stored in a transmission record and a note is added to the transmission report indicating which one Groups 1 to 3 have been assigned the address error (165).
  • the transmission report is transmitted electronically to the evaluation system (170) and advantageously contains not only the recognized address but also an image of the faulty receiver address. This can later be transmitted to the sender and makes it easier for him to correct the address if it can not be read in or can not be read in automatically.
  • the shipment is checked whether the shipment is to be destroyed or whether it can be delivered due to the correction of the recipient's address (175), and according to the result, the shipment is given a notice that it is to be destroyed (190) or becomes based on the corrected address the standard delivery method supplied (180) and delivered (185).
  • the consignments bearing an annihilation note are removed from the processing process and destroyed (195).
  • This recognition is similar to the above-explained recognition in a letter center from and is also based on FIG. 1 shown.
  • the deliverer can also determine and specify other reasons for non-delivery of postal items. Such reasons are that acceptance of the shipment has been denied or that the shipment has not been picked up from a PO box.
  • an address error or an undeliverability is recognized (110 ') by the deliverer, who determines that the recipient can not be identified at the specified address or the consignment is not accepted or not picked up.
