Abstract
A safety multipole electric connector construction is characterized in that said connector construction comprises a housing body and a connector block including electric connectors for a cable to be connected to electric connecting elements between a plug and a socket, said housing body being made as a single-piece and comprising a handle portion and a protective neck for protecting the electric connecting elements, said connector block being engaged in said housing body by a bayonet coupling and the connecting elements being protected by a protective body.
Description
- The present invention relates to a safety multipole electric connector construction.
- Multipole electric connectors which are mainly used in industrial and handicraft fields are already known.
- The above mentioned connectors, which are usually called "sockets/plugs" can be coupled to a respective end portion of an electric cable, and each conventionally comprising two parts: a connector block and a handle.
- More specifically, the electric cable is engaged in the handle and the conductor wire ends are affixed to the electric terminal of the connector block.
- The construction of the above mentioned sockets/plugs is subjected to precise regulations, related to their size, and connector element number and type.
- With respect to safety regulations, the above mentioned rules provides, inter alia, that said sockets/plugs assure impermeableness with respect to outer agents, such as water and powder.
- In conventional movable sockets/plugs, the connector handle and block are simply coupled by coupling screws.
- For meeting impermeableness or waterproofing rules, between the handle and connector block of the above mentioned sockets/plugs is conventionally provided a sealing gasket or their complementary contours are specifically shaped, in particular with respect to the portions contacting one another as the connector block is coupled to the connector handle, for preventing any infiltrations or leakages.
- Accordingly, the aim of the present invention is to provide a safety multipole electric connector construction which is improved with respect to commercially available prior connectors.
- Within the scope of the above mentioned aim, a main object of the invention is to provide such a safety multipole electric connector construction which is adapted to efficiently and simply insulate the electric connection region with respect to the outside environment.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide such a connector which is very simple construction-wise and reliable in operation, and which, moreover, can be made at a competitive cost.
- According to one aspect of the present invention, the above mentioned aim and objects, as well as yet other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a safety multipole electric connector construction, characterized in that said connector construction comprises a housing body and a connector block including electric connectors for a cable to be connected to electric connecting elements between a plug and a socket, said housing body being made as a single-piece and comprising a handle portion and a protective neck for protecting the electric connecting elements, said connector block being engaged in said housing body by a bayonet coupling and the connecting elements being protected by a protective body.
- Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become more apparent hereinafter from the following detailed disclosure of a preferred, though not exclusive, embodiment of the invention which is illustrated, by way of an indicative, but not limitative, example in the accompanying drawings, where:

- With reference to the number references of the above mentioned figures, the electric connector construction according to the present invention comprises a socket or
receptacle 2 and acorresponding plug 3 of a three-pole type. - More specifically, said socket or
receptacle 2 comprises a housing orholding body 4 for housing therein aconnector block 5 comprising a plurality of electric connector or connectingelements 6 for an electric cable to be connected, not herein shown. - The
housing body 4 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 7 and aprotective neck portion 8 for protecting the electric connectingelements 6. - The
connector block 5, in turn, comprises aprotective body 9 for protecting the connectingelements 6 and being engaged in the housing or holdingbody 4 by means of a bayonet type of coupling. - The housing body further comprises removable locking means for removably coupling the
socket 2 with thecorresponding plug 3, said removable locking means comprising, more specifically, resilient hook-like means 10, designed for engagingcorresponding abutments 11 as provided on thehousing body 12 of theplug 3. - The
plug 3, which corresponds to the above disclosed socket orreceptacle 2, comprises saidhousing body 12 for housing aconnector block 13 therein, which comprises a plurality ofelectric connector elements 14 for a cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The housing or
holding body 12 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 15 and aprotective neck portion 16 for protecting the electric connectingelements 14. - The
connector block 13 comprises aprotective body 17 for protecting the connecting orcoupling elements 14 and being engaged in thehousing body 12 by a bayonet type of coupling. - Figures 5 to 8 show a connector construction analogous to the connector above disclosed, but of a five-pole type, instead of a three-pole type.
- In particular, said electric connector construction comprises a socket or
receptacle 102 and acorresponding plug 103, of a five pole type. - The
socket 102, in turn, comprises a housing orholding body 104 for housing therein aconnector block 105, comprising a plurality ofelectric connector elements 106 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The
housing body 104 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 107 and aprotective neck portion 108 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 106. - The
connector block 105 comprises aprotective body 109 for protecting thecoupling elements 106 and is engaged in the housing or holdingbody 104 by a bayonet type of coupling. - The housing body further comprises removable locking means for removably locking the
socket 102 with thecorresponding plug 103, said removable coupling means comprising, in particular, resilient hook-like means 110 designed for engagingcorresponding abutments 111 on thehousing body 112 of theplug 103. - The
plug 103, corresponding to the above disclosed socket orreceptacle 102, comprises saidhousing body 112 for housing therein aconnector block 113, which comprises a plurality ofelectric connector elements 114 for an electric cable to be coupled, not shown. - The
housing body 112 is made as a single-piece and comprises ahandle portion 115 and aprotective neck portion 116 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 114. - The
connector block 113 comprises, in turn, aprotective body 117 for protecting thecoupling elements 114 and is engaged in saidhousing body 112 by a bayonet type of coupling. - Figures 9 to 12 show a five-pole connector construction, according to a further aspect of the present invention, with a fixed socket.
- This electric connector construction comprises a socket or
receptacle 202 and acorresponding plug 203, of a five-pole type. - More specifically, the
socket 202 comprises a housing orholding body 204 for housing aconnector block 205 therein, said connector block comprising a plurality ofelectric connector elements 206 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The holding or
housing body 204 is made as a single-piece and comprises abottom portion 207 which can be associated with a fixedbody 218 and aprotective neck portion 208 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 206. - The
connector block 205 comprises aprotective body 209 for protecting thecoupling elements 206 and can be engaged in said housing orholding body 204 by a bayonet type of coupling. - The housing body comprises moreover removable locking means for removably locking the socket or
receptacle 202 with thecorresponding plug 203, said removable locking means comprising, in particular, a threadedportion 212 designed for engaging with a corresponding threaded portion of asleeve 211 which can be associated with thehousing body 212 of theplug 203. - The
plug 203, corresponding to the above disclosed socket orreceptacle 202, comprises the above mentionedhousing body 212 for holding therein aconnector block 213, which connector block comprises a plurality ofelectric connector elements 214 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The housing or
holding body 212 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 215 and aprotective neck portion 216 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 214. - The
connector block 213 comprises aprotective body 217 for protecting thecoupling elements 214 and is engaged in thehousing body 212 by a bayonet type of coupling. - Figures 13-16 show a five-pole connector construction, according to a further aspect of the present invention.
- This electric connector construction comprises, in particular, a socket or
receptacle 302 and acorresponding plug 303, of a five-pole type. - The
socket 302 comprises, in turn, a housing or holdingbody 304 for holding aconnector block 305 therein, which connector block comprises a plurality ofelectric connector elements 306 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The holding
body 304 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 307 and aprotective neck 308 for protecting theelectric coupling element 306. - The
connector block 305 comprises aprotective body 309 for protecting thecoupling elements 306 and being engaged in thehousing body 304 by a bayonet type of coupling. - The housing body comprises moreover removable locking means for removably locking the socket or
receptacle 302 with thecorresponding plug 303, said removable locking means comprising, in particular, a threadedportion 310 designed for engaging with a corresponding threaded portion of asleeve 311 which can be associated with thehousing body 312 of theplug 303. - The
plug 303, corresponding to the above disclosed socket orreceptacle 302, comprises a housing or holdingbody 312 for housing therein aconnector block 313, said connector block comprising a plurality ofelectric connector elements 314 for an electric cable to be connected, not specifically shown. - The housing or holding
body 312 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 315 and a protective neck portion 316 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 314. - The
connector block 313 comprises aprotective body 317 for protecting thecoupling elements 314 and is engaged in thehousing body 312 by a bayonet type of coupling. - Figures 17-20 show a connector construction analogous to the connector shown in figures 5-8, but including modified removable locking means.
- More specifically, this electric connector construction comprises a socket or
receptacle 402 and acorresponding plug 403, of a five-pole type. - The
socket 402 comprises a housing or holdingbody 404 for holding aconnector block 405 therein, which comprises a plurality ofelectric connector elements 406 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The
housing body 404 is made as a single piece and comprises ahandle portion 407 and aprotective neck portion 408 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 406. - The
connector block 405 comprises, in turn, aprotective body 409 for protecting thecoupling elements 406 and being engaged in the housing or holdingbody 404 by a bayonet type of coupling. - The housing body comprises moreover removable locking means for removably locking the
socket 402 with thecorresponding plug 403, said removable locking means comprising, in particular, resilient hook-like means 410 designed for engagingcorresponding abutments 411 on the housing body 412 of theplug 403. - The
plug 403, corresponding to the above disclosedsocket 402, comprises said housing body 412 for housing therein aconnector block 413 which connector block comprises a plurality ofelectric connectors 414 for an electric cable to be coupled, not specifically shown. - The housing or holding body 412, in particular, is made as a single piece and comprises a
handle portion 415 andprotective neck portion 416 for protecting theelectric coupling elements 414. - The
connector block 413 comprises aprotective body 417 for protecting thecoupling elements 414 and is engaged in said housing body 412 by a bayonet type of coupling. - It has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects.
- In fact, the invention provides a safety multipole electric connector construction which, with respect to prior connector constructions, can be assembled in an easier manner and can be made at a lower cost.
- Moreover, the connector construction according to the present invention is provided with very good waterproof properties.
- In practicing the invention, the used materials, as well as the contingent size and shapes, can be any, according to requirements.
Claims (5)
- A safety multipole electric connector construction, characterized in that said connector construction comprises a housing body and a connector block including electric connectors for a cable to be connected to electric connecting elements between a plug and a socket, said housing body being made as a single-piece and comprising a handle portion and a protective neck for protecting the electric connecting elements, said connector block being engaged in said housing body by a bayonet coupling and the connecting elements being protected by a protective body.
- A connector construction, according to claim 1, characterized in that said housing body comprises a removable locking means for removably coupling said socket to said corresponding plug.
- A connector construction, according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said removable locking means for removably locking said socket with said corresponding plug comprises resilient hook means formed on said socket, designed for engaging corresponding abutments on said housing body of said plug.
- A connector construction, according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said removable locking means for removably locking said socket with said corresponding plug comprise a threaded portion formed on said housing body of said socket and adapted to engage a corresponding threaded portion of a sleeve which can be associated with said housing body of said plug.
- A connector construction, according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said connector construction comprises one or more of the disclosed and/or illustrated characteristics.
