Description

  • The present invention relates to a doorstop device for vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1. A doorstop device of this kind is known from the document EP-A-1 319 783 by the same Applicant.
  • In doorstop devices of this kind, a tie rod articulated to the vehicle body slides between a pair of rollers borne by a base structure fastened to the door. The two rollers are elastically pressed against opposite rolling surfaces of the tie rod. In the prior art solution described in the document EP-A-1 319 783, a first roller is mounted rotatable, with the interposition of a bushing, on a pivot that is fixed relative to the base structure made of stamped plate. The second roller is mounted rotatable on the end of a bent bar made of metallic material forming the elastic element which produces the force that thrusts the two roller towards each other. The second roller is mounted on a coating of plastic material co-moulded on the end of the elastic element.
  • The Applicant has verified that the roller mounted on the plastic coating co-moulded on the end of the elastic element can occasionally become stuck on the coating, causing the roller to seize.
  • The object of the present invention is to provide an enhanced doorstop device which allows to overcome the aforesaid drawback.
  • According to the present invention, said object is achieved by a doorstop device having the characteristics set out in the main claim.
  • The features and the advantages of the present invention shall become readily apparent from the detailed description that follows, provided purely by way of non limiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
    • Figure 1 is a perspective view of a doorstop device according to the present invention,
    • Figure 2 is an elevation view according to the arrow II of Figure 1,
    • Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the doorstop device of Figure. 1,
    • Figure 4 is a plan view of the doorstop device of Figure 1, and
    • Figures 4, 5, 6 and 7 are sections respectively according to the lines V-V, VI-VI and VII-VII of Figure 4.
  • With reference to Figures 1 through 3, the number 10 designates a doorstop device for vehicles according to the present invention. The doorstop device 10 comprises a base structure 12 made of stamped plate and having two parallel sides 14, 16 mutually joined by a bottom wall 18. The parallel walls 14, 16 have respective portions bent by 90° to form tabs 20, 22 provided with holes for fastening the base structure 12 to the door of a vehicle (not shown).
  • Two rollers 26, 28 with mutually parallel axes are positioned in the space between the two parallel walls 14, 16. The two rollers 26, 28 are freely rotatable around their respective axes and are elastically thrust towards each other in the manner described hereafter. A metal tie rod 30 is positioned between the two parallel walls 14, 16 of the base structure 12 and is capable of sliding in the direction of its own longitudinal axis between the two rollers 26, 28. The tie rod 30 is preferably formed by a metal core 32 provided with a plastic coating 34 preferably co-moulded on the core 32. The tie rod 30 is provided with two opposite rolling surfaces 36, 38 against which are pressed in rolling contact the two rollers 26, 28. A first end of the tie rod 30 is articulated to a flange 40 destined to be fastened to an upright of the vehicle (not shown). The opposite end of the tie rod 30 is shaped as a hook to form an arrest against the first roller 26. At least one of the rolling surfaces 36, 38 has one or more positioning notches able to define one or more stable retaining positions of the tie rod 30 relative to the base structure 12. Said stable retaining positions correspond to as many positions of partially open door. A position of fully open door is defined by the contact position between the hook shaped end of the tie rod 30 against the roller 26.
  • The first roller 26, preferably made of metallic material, is mounted rotatable around a pivot 42 fastened to the two parallel walls 14, 16. Preferably, between the inner surface of the roller 26 and the outer surface of the pivot 42 is positioned a bushing made of anti-friction material 44 (see also Figure 7) . A preferred embodiment of the mounting of the roller 26 on the pivot 42 is described in detail in European patent application no. 1 319 783 by the same Applicant.
  • The device 10 comprises an elastic element 46 formed by a metallic bar with circular cross section, bent to present two rectilinear end segments 48, 50, a central rectilinear segment 52 with two arched segments 54, 56 which join the central segment 52 to the end segments 48, 50. The end segments 48, 50 are both parallel to the central segment 52. A part of the central segment 52 is preferably provided with a coating made of co-moulded plastic material 58. The central branch 52 of the elastic element 46 is borne by the bottom wall 18 of the base structure 12. The end portion 48 reacts against the bottom of an opening formed in the wall 14.
  • The second roller 28 is mounted in freely rotatable fashion on the rectilinear end portion 50 of the elastic element 46. The second roller 28 comprises an internal rolling element 60 made of plastic material which is mounted in freely rotatable fashion on the end portion 50 of the elastic element 46 without the interposition of bushings or other anti-friction material. An external rolling element 62 made of metallic element is mounted in freely rotatable fashion on the outer surface of the internal rolling element 60. The two rolling elements 60, 62 are mutually coaxial and are mutually coupled with play. The internal rolling element is also mounted with play on the end portion 50.
  • The roller 28 comprises two small lids 64, 66 applied to the front ends of the outer rolling element 62. The lids 64, 66 essentially have the function of containing a lubricant inside the rolling elements 60, 62 and prevent the entry of dust. The two lids 64, 66 are provided with respective holes that engage with slight friction the end portion 50 of the elastic elements 46. The slight friction between the lids 64, 66 and the portion 60 is sufficient to hold in the axial direction the roller 28 on the end portion 50 during the mounting of the device. Once mounting is complete, the roller 28 is held in the axial direction against the extraction from the parallel walls 14, 16 of the base structure 12.
  • Providing two rolling elements 60, 62 mounted rotatable with respect to each other and with the inner rolling element freely rotatable on the end portion 50 of the elastic element 46 allows completely to eliminate the risk of seizure of the roller 28 relative to the elastic element. The structure formed by the two rolling elements 60, 62 is substantially equivalent, from the cinematic viewpoint, to a rolling bearing in which the outer rolling element 62 constitutes the outer ring of the bearing and the inner rolling element 60 behaves as a rim of rolling elements.
