  • Querleimwerke known for high-speed paper webs on rotary printing machines, which apply a liquid adhesive trace on a paper or board web. This is accomplished by guiding the paper web around a rotating application cylinder, on which outlet valves are arranged, which apply a defined amount of the liquid adhesive to the paper web in cycles per revolution of the application cylinder.
  • the control of these Querleimwerke is usually done via a synchronous drive, which is connected to an upstream printing machine or the like.

  • material web This includes both the mentioned running paper webs, etc., material flows of individual items, as well as the transient or stationary arrangement of individual materials or objects.
  • the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are present in a grid structure on the support.
  • This has the advantage that when the carrier is pressed together with the material web, the shear-proof pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are removed from the carrier in a precisely controllable amount and local distribution and transferred to the material web or to the by-product. In this case, exactly as many pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are removed as are covered by the pressed-on material or by-product. Pressure-sensitive adhesive drops that do not come into contact with the material or by-product remain on the carrier. As a result, precisely limited to the contact surface and thus accurately controlled adhesive surfaces are transmitted. This also ensures a uniform full-surface bonding, which is not achievable with the usual adhesive beads.
  • the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops have a high cohesion, whereby they have a high dimensional stability, which prevents them from merging with adjacent pressure-sensitive adhesive drops and form larger drops, as is the case with liquid adhesives. Furthermore, the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops to the carrier have a relatively low adhesion, which is dimensioned so that the drops adhere strongly enough on the carrier so as not to fall off even at high carrier movement speeds, but when compressing the carrier with the material web to which they have a higher adhesion, detach from the carrier and transferred to the web or the by-product.

From the WO 96/26148 are Querleimwerke known for high-speed paper webs on rotary printing machines, which apply a liquid adhesive trace on a paper or board web. This is accomplished by guiding the paper web around a rotating application cylinder, on which outlet valves are arranged, which apply a defined amount of the liquid adhesive to the paper web in cycles per revolution of the application cylinder. The control of these Querleimwerke is usually done via a synchronous drive, which is connected to an upstream printing machine or the like.

Furthermore, from the DE-297 13 744 U1 Longitudinal and cross-gluing plants are known for the same field of application in which a liquid adhesive is applied to the high-speed paper web via stationary nozzles with fast-controlled piezo drives.

Out CH 648497 A5 a method according to the preamble of claim 1 is known. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved technique for mechanical adhesive transfer.

This object is achieved with the features of claims 1 and 6.

The claimed application technique has the advantage that instead of liquid adhesives, very small and dimensionally stable pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are used. The problems of safe handling, control, nozzle and line clogging, cleaning, etc. associated with liquid adhesives can thus be circumvented. The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops provide immediate adhesion and adhesion without cooling and drying times.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops of the transfer adhesive can alternatively be transferred directly or indirectly to a material web moved relative to the application device. This can be done to a variety of purposes and process requirements.

In the case of direct transfer, the adhesive is applied directly to the material web after detachment from the support and is then available as an open adhesive surface for a wide variety of tasks. The direct order can be made directly from the carrier to the material web or indirectly via an intermediate transmission element.

In the case of indirect transfer, the adhesive is first applied to a by-product to be bonded to the material web and then to the material web with it.

The applicator has a wide range of uses including any types and relative speeds of webs as well as application techniques. A material web can be, for example, a more or less fast-moving paper, film or board web or a continuously or intermittently moved sequence of individual objects, eg packaging blanks, cartons or the like, in the sense of a material flow. There is a relative movement between the application device and the material or the material web. In most applications, in this case the application device is arranged stationary, with the adhering to Material on the applicator as moving material web or material flow past. The kinematic mapping may also be reversed with the applicator moving relative to the material. This is z. As with large-sized materials or objects of the case, which are at rest or can move at a low speed.

The adhesive may be applied directly and openly to the web of material for subsequent adhesive bonding of portions of the web, e.g. packaging slices of a set-up box or of folded or cut sides of a paper web. Alternatively or additionally, by-products, e.g. Samples, data carriers or the like., Glued to the web, which is also possible later on a previously applied glue line or adhesive surface.

In the following description, all materials and applications are uniformly referred to as material web. This includes both the mentioned running paper webs, etc., material flows of individual items, as well as the transient or stationary arrangement of individual materials or objects.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are present in a grid structure on the support. This has the advantage that when the carrier is pressed together with the material web, the shear-proof pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are removed from the carrier in a precisely controllable amount and local distribution and transferred to the material web or to the by-product.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops have a high cohesion, whereby they have a high dimensional stability, which prevents them from merging with adjacent pressure-sensitive adhesive drops and form larger drops, as is the case with liquid adhesives.

The carrier is fed by a feed device and brought by means of a feed device into contact with the material web and is further moved by a transport drive during rest periods and / or during the web contact. The carrier can be pressed in variable clock rates or permanently on the relatively moving material web. When the carrier is circulated around the pressure roller and at the same time this pressure roller is pressed onto the material web, pressure-sensitive adhesive droplets are transferred from the carrier to the material web, whereby short or long stretched adhesive surfaces are produced depending on the temporal contact pressure and relative speed to the material web.

By varying the beam width and varying the Anpresslänge adhesive surfaces of pressure-sensitive adhesive drops both strip-like in the transverse or longitudinal direction of the Material web flow and be applied over a large area. If a narrow carrier is pressed on for a relatively long time, a strip-shaped adhesive surface extending longitudinally of the material web flow results. If a broad carrier is pressed on over a very short period of time, a strip-like adhesive surface is created which extends transversely to the material web flow. Thus, both longitudinal and transverse adhesions are possible with the same device.

Furthermore, the device described is subject to less wear due to lower running speeds, and the adhesion of the adhesive drops to the carrier ensures that unresolved pressure-sensitive adhesive drops remain on the carrier, which is rolled up as used material on the take-up roll and thus do not produce any impurities or false bonds , Thus, the device is far less maintenance intensive and universal use than previously known longitudinal and transverse gluing plants.

The control and the drive of the mechanical application device are preferably designed such that there is an independent drive for the application device, which is controlled, for example, by optical scanning of material identifiers on the relatively moving material web. As a result, can be dispensed with complex synchronization drives.

In order to enable fast and possibly high-frequency movements of the feed device or the pressure roller, the drive may be preferably designed as a combination of some piezo elements to an activator or in another convenient form.

In order to achieve the shortest stroke possible with high-frequency movement of the pressure roller, the material web can preferably extend in sheet guide with tension rollers under the pressure roller or be guided over a suction roller. This ensures that the material web retains a discrete relative to the stroke direction of the pressure roller layer, whereby even with a small stroke of the pressure roller is ensured that no contact between the carrier and web exists.

As an alternative to the movement of the pressure roller, a statically arranged pressure roller is provided in a further embodiment of the invention. In order to enable a cyclic compression of carrier and material web, in this case the material web is guided, for example, stretched over a herausölbbaren or undeliverable substrate, wherein the web is pressed at each buckling of the substrate to the pressure roller.

Other embodiments of the applicator are provided for the adhesive transfer to by-products and their subsequent attachment to the web. Alternatively, the by-products can be applied to a previously provided with adhesive drops material web.

In the drawings, devices for the mechanical transfer of an adhesive or so-called transfer adhesive in the form of pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) from at least one supplied carrier (1) to a relatively moving Material web (3) shown in various embodiments and functional variants. They are each equipped with an applicator (9). The adhesive transfer can be carried out directly on the material web (3) and directly from the carrier (1). In a variant, a direct application to the material web (3) in indirect form via a controlled movable transfer element is possible. In a third functional variant, an indirect transfer takes place, wherein first a by-product (13) is provided with the adhesive and then applied to the material web (3).

Für den Träger (1) ist ein Zuführeinrichtung (12,19) vorgesehen.FIG. 1 shows in a side view a first variant of an applicator device (9) for producing e.g. Longitudinal and / or transverse bonding. The material web (3) may be a flexible paper, foil or cardboard web or a sequence of other and possibly also rigid workpieces. For the carrier (1) a feed device (12,19) is provided.

A preferred field of application are printing or packaging machines. These are e.g. to rotary printing machines, in particular web or sheet-fed offset presses for more or less fast-moving paper webs in newspaper or Akzedenzdruck or wrapping paper webs or blanks. The application device (9) can be designed here as a cross-glue unit or as a longitudinal gluing unit or as a combined device. In the high relative speed embodiments, e.g. occur in newspaper or Akzedenzdruck, the applicator is preferably arranged stationary relative to the moving material web (3).

In the field of packaging technology, the application device (9) can also be assigned to a printing press or another processing machine. Because of As a rule, the transport speed of the moving material web is lower for the more rigid packaging material. Here, for example, cardboard webs can be provided with adhesive. Likewise, individual packing material blanks can be pasted in the packaging technology.

Another area of application in the preferred field of printing and packaging technology lies in the finishing area of the products. This concerns e.g. the attachment of by-products (13) to printed products, e.g. Magazines. The by-products (13) may be data carriers in the form of CDs or the like. By-products (13) may also be product samples, e.g. Trial packs of detergents, perfumes or the like in flat, flexible plastic sleeves. These parts can be connected by means of the claimed adhesive technique with the printed product. The adhesive can be attached either on the printed product or the by-product (13) or on both.

In packaging technology, for example, film packaging can be provided with a strip-shaped adhesive and then sealed. In one application example, these are protective plastic film bags which, for transport purposes, encase any products, for example magazines or other printed products. In packaging technology, otherwise, packaging blanks can be pasted in various stages of production. The packaging blank can on the one hand be a flat material. It can also be a cubic structure, eg a partially erected cardboard or the like. A particularly favorable field of use are packaging made of plastics, in particular colorless and transparent or opaque plastics. The likewise preferably colorless adhesive is particularly useful here and does not disturb the appearance of the finished packaging. In the case of larger and, in particular, partially erected packaging means, it is also advantageous to move the application device (9) relative to the stationary or slowly moving packaging means.

The adhesive consists of very small pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2), which are arranged individually in a two-dimensional grid (20) and contactless but close to each other. The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) may be colorless or colored as desired. The carrier (1), on which the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) are guided, is preferably designed to be elastically flexible in band or sheet form and is suitably stored and stored in a feed device (12, 19). By means of a controllable feed device (7), the carrier (1) with its pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) is brought into touching contact with the material web (3).

In the feeder (12) the carrier (1) is e.g. stored on a storage roll (4). From this storage roll (4), the carrier (1) in the direction of the arrow about a transversely to the material web (3) deliverable, rotatable about its own axis and possibly rotationally driven pressure roller (7 ') guided tightly and tightly and further to a take-up roll ( 5), which resumes and stores the spent, empty carrier material.

For the transport of the carrier (1), one or more suitable transport drives may be present. The rollers (4,5) can e.g. have a controllable rotary drive. The transport drive can be operated at rest or during the order contact. The carrier is preferably moved along the material web (3) in the contact and transfer region.

The pressure roller (7 ') is at a small distance above the Material web (3) deliverable, in particular arranged vertically movable and drivable and controllable so that they can be pressed in very fast movement for intervals of any length on the material web (3). In the region of the pressure roller (7 '), a flat or curved counter-pressure surface (6) is arranged under the material web, which can be stationary or movable, for example in the form of a rotating counter-pressure roller.

In order to allow in a further embodiment of the invention, a close concern of the material web (3) to the counter-pressure surface (6), for example, the material web (3) with tensioning rollers on an arcuate counter-surface (6) out or the counter-surface are replaced by a suction roller. This ensures that the pressure roller (7) together with the carrier (1) can quickly detach again from the material web (3) after the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) have been transferred.

Demnach können je nach Wahl der Trägerbreite und je nach Steuerung der Andrückwalze (7') beliebig dimensionierte Klebeflächen auf die Materialbahn (3) aufgebracht werden.FIG. 2 shows a side view of the pressure roller (7 ') of the application device (9) of FIG. As indicated by the dashed lines, one or more different carriers (1) can be arranged in any width and position. For short-term pressing a wide beam (1) on the material web (3) is a narrow transverse bonding produced. For a longer pressing of a narrow support (1) a longitudinal bond can be produced. Accordingly, depending on the choice of the beam width and depending on the control of the pressure roller (7 ') arbitrarily dimensioned adhesive surfaces can be applied to the material web (3).

In a further embodiment, instead of a movement of the pressure roller (7 '), the counter-pressure surface can be movable and be replaced, for example, by a buckling hose structure which bulges in the direction of a fixed pressure roller and thus the material web (3). briefly pressed against the carrier (1).

It has a movable transfer element (8), e.g. a controlled rotatable transfer roller, which decreases the pressure-sensitive adhesive points (2) on one side of a carrier (1) and on another side to a material web (3) spaced from the carrier (1).

The indirect transmission of Figure 3 has particular advantages when it comes to labile material webs (3) and / or high transport speeds of webs (3). In this case, a time buffer can be created, in particular if the bonds on the high-speed material web (3) have a sufficiently large repeat. In this case, the transfer roller (8) rotates at a peripheral speed substantially equal to the web running speed. In addition, the circumference or diameter of the transfer roller (8) is preferably selected so that it is sufficient for the application of an adhesive line in the desired width. The transfer roller (8) has a correspondingly suitable controllable rotary drive and also a delivery device. In the process, the preferably synchronously rotating transfer roller (8) transfers its accepted pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) to the material web (3) in the delivery position. Subsequently, the transfer roller (8) is withdrawn and brought into contact with the carrier (1), from which it takes over a new batch of pressure-sensitive adhesive dots (2). For this purpose, the transfer roller (8) turns correspondingly slower. After assembly, it is again delivered to the web (3) at the required time and passes this the pressure-sensitive adhesive points (2). If the repeat of the material web (3) is too short, a plurality of transfer rollers (8) in a magazine arrangement, for. B. a rotating star, be arranged to the time buffer between the fast-running Material web (3) and the correspondingly fast Klebypunktübergabe on the one hand and the slow movement of the carrier (1) and the local Klebypunktübergabe to create.

The plan views in Figure 4 show four possible different arrangements of pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) on a support (1) in the form of a planar grid (20). The adhesive drops (2) are very small and have e.g. a diameter of about 0.5 to 1 mm. The diameter may alternatively be smaller or larger and up to a few millimeters, e.g. up to 5 millimeters.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) are arranged in the planar grid (20) in several rows next to each other without mutual contact. The distances between the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) are about as large as their diameter or smaller. The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) can be arranged in uniform rows and columns and thus on the same longitudinal and transverse line with each other. The adhesive bead rows may alternatively be offset, thereby increasing the packing density.

Likewise, the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) can be applied in the form of dots, squares or the like and their distances from each other can be varied in such a way that regions of different packing densities are formed.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) can have any cubic shape. In the preferred embodiment, they have a spherical or drop-like shape with a round cross-section. Alternatively, the shape may also be cylindrical or tubular. Further, the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) may have a cubic shape with a prismatic cross-section.

The carrier (1) is repellent as one or both sides Carrier (1) formed with a very low adhesion to the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2). For this purpose, the carrier (1) may have on one or both sides, for example, a silicone-containing or silicone-free non-stick coating or the like.

When working with a multi-stage adhesive dot transfer and with one or more transfer rollers (8) or other suitable transfer means, it requires a graded adhesion effect. The carrier (1) has in this case the lowest and the finally adhered material web (3) the highest adhesion effect. The transfer roller (s) (8) has or have an intervening adhesion effect which makes it possible, on the one hand, to transfer the pressure-sensitive adhesive points from the carrier (1) to the transfer roller (8) and then to deliver it from there to the material web (3) , The adhesion effect is also chosen so large that during the free rotation of the transfer roller (8) no unwanted detachment takes place.

The adhesive drops (2) consist of a pressure-sensitive adhesive whose internal cohesive forces are greater than the external adhesion forces relative to the carrier (1). The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) can thereby be detached from the carrier (1) without destruction, when they come into contact with the material web (3) on their free side, which has a greater adhesion or adhesive action than the carrier (1). The pressure-sensitive adhesive can be made of any suitable material, for example dispersions, acrylates or synthetic rubber. The pressure-sensitive adhesive may also be formed by a hot-melt adhesive which is shock-cooled with cold or the like. The adhesive force or the cohesion and adhesion effect can be varied depending on the field of application and requirements, for example about the area size, the height and the distances of the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) as well as on the formulation of the Adhesive.

The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) have on the carrier (1) the above-described low adhesion, so that they stick to the material web (3) and can be easily detached from the carrier (1). Depending on the contact duration, diameter of the pressure roller and grid dimension more or less rows of drops are detached in the relative direction of the web (3) and transferred to the web (3). If the carrier (1) rotates in the web contact through the transport drive and moves in the relative direction with appropriate speed, the number of dispensed rows of drops and thus the length of the adhesive surface in the direction can be increased.

Figures 5, 6 and 7 show a second and third variant of the applicator (9), which serves here for indirect adhesive transfer and for applying a by-product (13) of the type described above on a material web (3). The material web (3) is moved by means of a conveyor (10), which also forms the counter-pressure surface, continuously or intermittently in the direction of the arrow. In the embodiment shown, the material web (3) consists of individual materials (11), arranged one behind the other in series, e.g. in sheet or blank form. These can be pages of a printed product, but also packaging blanks or the like. Instead of individual materials (11), a continuous material web may also be present.

The adhesive (2) is moved on a strip or sheet-shaped carrier (1) by means of the feed device in the form of a belt conveyor (12), preferably in parallel and with the same or opposite direction to the material web (3). The individual By-products (13) are also in a row one behind the other on a conveyor (14) with preferably parallel alignment in moved accordingly.

The application device (9) has a gripping device (15), which can be designed in any suitable manner and with any complexity. FIG. 5 schematically shows a variant as a linear axis device or so-called gantry robot. FIGS. 6 and 7 schematically show a modification as a so-called rotary robot with linear and rotary axes or as a multi-axis articulated-arm robot.

The gantry robot has a bridge (22) transversely spanning the conveyors (10, 12, 14) with a carriage (23) movable transversely thereto, which carries a gripping arm (16) at the end of which a suitable gripper (17) for the by-product (16) 13), eg a suction head, arranged and possibly articulated. The gripper arm (16) is mounted raised and lowered and can possibly rotate the gripper (17) or otherwise move. The bridge (22) and possibly the gripping arm (16) can also be moved in the conveyor running direction, for. with the conveyors (10,12,14) take a piece synchronously. Arrows indicate the potential movement possibilities.

The rotary robot has a stationary or movable base (24) with a gripping arm (16) together with grippers (17) for the by-product (13). The gripper arm (16) is rotatably mounted on the base (24) about a vertical axis (18) and can be raised and lowered and can be articulated in itself. The axis (18) is located between the conveyors (10,12,14), so that the gripper arm (16) reaches all three conveyors (10,12,14) with the pivoting movement shown in Figure 6 and illustrated by an arrow.

The gripping device (15) picks up a by-product (13) from the conveyor (14) with the gripping arm (16), pivots it over the carrier (1) and presses it onto the local pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2), which thereby reach the underside of the by-product (13) are adhesively transferred. Subsequently, the gripper arm (16) raises the by-product (13) again, moves it over the material web (3) or the individual material (11), optionally orientates it and then lowers it again, wherein it touches the material (11). is pressed and glued. Subsequently, the gripper (17) releases the by-product (13) and returns to the initial position above the conveyor (14) to grip the next by-product (13). The conveyors (10,12,14) can be moved continuously or intermittently.

Der leere Träger (1) wird abgeführt und entsorgt.FIG. 8 shows a fourth variant of the applicator (9). This has in addition to a gripping device (15) and another feed device (19) for the adhesive carrier (1) in the form of a stationary arranged and preferably motor-driven roller dispenser. The adhesive carrier (1) is wound in this embodiment on a storage roll (4) and is withdrawn intermittently via a motor-driven roller guide. On a deflection roller (21) with a small diameter of the support (1) for removing the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) of the gripping device (15) is presented, which in turn has a multi-axially movable gripping arm (16) with a gripper (17). The empty carrier (1) is removed and disposed of.

Also in this embodiment, a by-product (13) is held by the gripper (17) and pressed against the carrier (1). In this embodiment, a substantially line-shaped contact is produced by the deflection roller (21), wherein only one or a few rows of pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) are transferred to the underside of the by-product (13). The smaller the diameter or the narrower the curvature of the deflection roller (21), the narrower is the contact area and the fewer rows of drops are transferred. The by-product (13) is then pressed onto the material web (3) and glued.

In the exemplary embodiments of FIGS. 5 to 7, the underside of the by-product (13) is provided with adhesive over the grid (20) substantially over the entire area by the conveyor (12) which is flat in the transfer region. In the embodiment of Figure 7, the adhesive strip may be substantially smaller covering only part of the underside of the by-product (13).

Modifications of the embodiments shown are possible in various ways. This concerns the structural design of the gripping device (15), the dispenser (19) and other parts of the applicator device (9). For higher transfer speeds, rotating drums or rollers similar to the embodiment of Fig. 3 may be employed for the gripper (15), with the by-products (13) temporarily held on the drum by suction or the like. The pressure-sensitive adhesive drops are transferred from the pasted carrier (1) to the rotating by-products (13), which are subsequently dispensed onto the material web (3).

Furthermore, the type and configuration of the pressure-sensitive adhesive drops (2) and also their raster shape (20) can vary. Also, the shape, the material and the properties of the carrier (1) are modifiable.
