Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for generating calibration signals for calibration spatially distant signal branches of antenna systems.
For the calibration of signal branches of antenna systems, the calibration signals are usually generated centrally with the corresponding frequency at which the calibration is to be carried out. The problem here is that the distribution lines have a dispersive behavior over frequency, ie the signal propagation times are frequency and temperature-dependent, the higher the absolute frequency, the greater the dependence. In addition, a signal line has different attenuation depending on the frequency, temperature, bending radius of the lines and age.
Due to imprecise impedance adaptations, standing waves occur in known methods, as a result of which a wave-shaped amplitude behavior of the signals occurs. This makes calibration difficult.
Known calibration measuring devices are usually installed in a fixed position in the antenna system to be measured. The disadvantage here is the high space requirement of the measuring devices and the difficult and changing environmental conditions, for example when installing the measuring devices in the wing tips of an aircraft.
Another disadvantage is that frequency-selective filters are used in known systems, which leads to insufficient time accuracy due to frequency-specific group delays. These group terms are also temperature and aging dependent.
For certain measuring methods, however, high time accuracy is required because the time differences of the arrival of the received signals at the different ones Signal branches of the antenna system are used to determine the direction of reception become. This is also known as the delta time of arrival method. The direction of reception is an important criterion for the localization of transmitters.
The object of the invention is to provide a method with which it is possible to use calibration signals for calibration of spatially distant signal branches of antenna systems to generate, the transit time and amplitude fluctuations of the calibration signals, if possible is kept low.
This object is achieved with the method according to
According to the invention, a base signal is generated by means of a clock generator Distribution unit for distributing the base signal to amplifier circuits on them each assigned signal distribution lines is supplied. Besides, will According to the invention, one calibration signal each at the output of the amplifier circuits by amplifying the base signal within a predeterminable upper amplitude limit and a predeterminable lower amplitude limit, which corresponds to the respective an input point of the amplifier to be calibrated Signal branch is supplied.
With the method according to the invention, amplitude-stable high-frequency (in GHz range) calibration signals with a defined amplitude behavior for spatial distributed entry points are generated in reception branches to be calibrated. In addition, with the method according to the invention, time-accurate calibration signals at any frequencies, e.g. pulsed RF signals in the GHz range become. The time accuracy of the invention is in the frequency range from 1 GHz to 20 GHz generated calibration signals in the sub-nanosecond range.
The base signal is e.g. generated with a clock divider and can be a pulsed Signal (for time calibration) or a continuous signal (for amplitude calibration correction) can be with a frequency depending on the application in the range between 200 and 750 MHz (to to 5 GHz) A pulse burst in a J-K flip-flop is advantageous for time calibration is produced. The J-K flip-flop can e.g. by the output signal of the Clock dividers can be controlled. An advantage here is that the pulse bursts are always start in phase and that all pulses of a pulse burst have the same pulse width and Have duty cycles as long as the reference clock, e.g. a constant from the clock divider Frequency. This ensures that up to the bandwidth limit a symmetrical pulse sequence is generated.
The frequency components of the calibration signal behave according to the Fourier series development:
An example of the output power of each harmonic Frequencies are shown in Fig. 3.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the amplifier circuit has a short group delay for generating the square-wave signals, in particular the driver amplifier group delay is less than 50 ps. Thereby a high time accuracy of the calibration signal is achieved. Since in the invention If the amplifier circuit does not use frequency-selective components, e.g. Has filter, the transit time dispersion of the calibration signal is low.
With the calibration method according to the invention, a high measurement accuracy is achieved of the reception times based on the antenna positions guaranteed, whereby the direction of reception of a signal can be determined precisely. A possible one Field of application of the method according to the invention is e.g. a radar warning receiver or an education recipient (ESM), which is known to be ready to receive from all directions. The high determination accuracy allows the direction of reception of a signal with the inventive method thus an exact determination of the position of the transmitter.
The runtime on the signal distribution lines, which is especially impedance-adapted Lines are to be detected, the amplifier circuit advantageously comprises a calibration switch, which is arranged directly in front of the respective driver amplifier is. The calibration switch KLS is advantageous between one Passage state and a signal reflecting state switchable. For determination the cable runtime is now with the calibration switch set to "reflective" KLS a pulse signal is fed into the signal distribution line and at the same time, both the injected signal and the reflected signal component with one Evaluation unit measured with a in the respective signal distribution line resistance matrix connected between the amplifier circuit and the distribution unit connected is. This evaluation unit is e.g. a high speed broadband A / D converter with downstream digital signal recorder.
The use of a pulse signal with a pulse width smaller is expedient here than the smallest double line runtime (runtime until the reflected Signal components at the feed point).

The exemplary circuit arrangement shown in FIG. 1 of a calibration circuit for Implementation of the method according to the invention comprises a clock generator TG, which by means of an integrated so-called clock divider a base signal with a predefinable one Reference act generated. The output A of the clock generator TG is with the input K of a J / K flip-flop FF connected. The J / K flip-flop FF is a so-called controlled 2/1 frequency divider. With the flip-flop FF used it is therefore possible to generate exactly the same pulse without further adjustment work must be made on the generated pulses. This ensures that all pulses are of the same length. Instead of a J / K flip-flop FF can a delay line and a Schmitt trigger gate can also be used.

- U High: output voltage of high signal
- U Low : output voltage low signal
- IMP: Impedance of the signal lines in ohms
- Setting the multiple switch MUX to
input 3, the output A of the clock generator TG being connected directly to the multiple switch MUX and the base signal of the clock generator having a frequency which is equal to or less than the frequency to be calibrated in the reception branches KE - Transmission of the base signal generated in this way to the output amplifier AT via the calibration line KL and the calibration line switch KLS switched to "continuity".
- Amplification of the base signal by the output amplifier AT, the output voltage being limited to the previously measured high and low output voltages. The output voltage comes very close to an ideal square wave output signal due to the high bandwidth of the output amplifier. In particular, this output signal has output powers defined in accordance with the Fourier series both on the fundamental frequency and on the odd multiples of the fundamental frequency, the frequency range for the validity of the Fourier relationship being restricted only by the rise and fall speed of the output signal and by symmetry errors in the basic signal ,
- Feeding the generated calibration signal into the receiving channel KE to be calibrated. Due to the specific frequency properties of the reception channels KE, the corresponding frequency components are selected and measured from the calibration signal. This can be done, for example, by a series of amplifier, filter and mixer arrangements to increase the useful frequency range of the reception channel KE.
- Calculation of the ratio of the known power of the calibration signal at the corresponding multiples of the fundamental frequency (or the fundamental frequency itself) and the power measured by the reception channel KE, which can be used as a calibration value for determining the actual input powers at the corresponding frequency.
- Setting the multiple switch MUX to input 4, which is connected to the output Q of the J / K flip-flop FF, and setting the calibration line switch KLS to the reflective state.
- Generation of a pulse packet by switching the J / K flip-flop from "hold" to "toggle" by changing the gate signal at the input J of the J / K flip-flop FF, the J / K flip-flop FF for the duration of the active activation by the gate signal at the input J of the JK flip-flop FF generates a pulse packet, the frequency of which corresponds to half the frequency of the base signal generated in the clock generator TG. All pulses within the pulse packet are of the same length.
- The pulse packet generated is forwarded to the resistance matrix WM via a distribution unit VN, which includes, for example, further driver amplifiers. The pulse packet is forwarded via the resistance matrix WM both directly to the evaluation unit AE, which is, for example, the analog-digital converter of the receiving unit, and to the calibration line KL.
- The signal forwarded to the calibration line KL is reflected on the calibration line switch KLS which is in a reflecting state and is also forwarded to the evaluation unit AE via the calibration line KL and the resistance matrix WM. The measured time difference between the reception of the first pulse packet and the reflected pulse packet corresponds exactly to twice the signal transit time on the calibration line KL.
The signal delay in the output amplifier AT is small compared to the delay in the calibration lines KL. In addition, the signal is over the frequency range Carrying out a runtime calibration is almost constant. The deviation is a few picoseconds. The signal transit time within the output amplifier AT can therefore be assumed to be constant for all reception branches to be calibrated become. Fluctuations in the signal runtime can therefore be neglected.
- Setting the multiple switch MUX to input 4, which is connected to the output Q of the J / K flip-flop FF, and setting the calibration line switch KLS to "continuity". In particular, the reception branch KE to be calibrated is set to the corresponding frequency range in which the calibration is to take place.
- Generation of a pulse packet by switching the J / K flip-flop FF from "hold" to "toggle" by changing the gate signal at the input J of the J / K flip-flop FF, the J / K flip-flop FF for the Duration of the active activation by the gate signal at the input J of the J / K flip-flop FF generates a pulse packet, the frequency of which corresponds to half the frequency of the base signal generated in the clock generator TG. All pulses within the pulse packet are also of the same length.
- The pulse packet generated is forwarded to the resistance matrices WM via a distributor unit VN, which includes, for example, further driver amplifiers. Each resistance matrix forwards the pulse packet both directly to the evaluation unit and to the respective calibration line KL.
- the signal forwarded to the calibration line KL is amplified by the output amplifier AT and shaped into a square-wave signal, the output voltage of the calibration signal being limited to the previously measured high and low output voltages. The output voltage of the calibration signal comes very close to an ideal square-wave output signal due to the high bandwidth of the output amplifier.
- Measuring the transit time difference of the two signals received in the evaluation unit AE, the transit time of the signal in the corresponding signal branch KE minus the time difference between the input time of the basic signal from the resistance matrix WM at the evaluation unit AE and the input time of the calibration signal by the signal branch KE to be calibrated corresponds to the self-running time between the VM distribution unit and the KLS calibration switch.
When determining the frequency-specific difference in transit time between two or several reception channels KE is used instead of the last bullet point temporal difference by direct comparison of the input times of the signals the respective evaluation units. The respective own term is the Calibration arrangement between the distribution unit and the amplifier circuit to be considered.
As already explained above, the signal transit time in the output amplifier AT is short compared to the run times in the KE calibration lines. With a similar design of the The output driver used for all reception channels KE to be calibrated can be used Signal transit time in the output amplifiers AT can be assumed to be constant. If differences in transit times of the KE reception channels (not absolute transit times) are measured the runtime of the output amplifier circuit can be neglected become.
