A cylindrical encapsulated, pressure-resistance overvoltage conductor comprises two electrodes (3,4) and an isolating section (5) and has an external current supply (1,2) with leads forming a part of the capsule. At least one of the electrode comprises a device to reverse or alter the current flow within or outside the capsule.
