Abstract

The procedure for assembling boxes from cut-out panels of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard uses a shaper (5) that is inserted into the partly-folded box while its last side panel (1) is glued onto a tab (4) on the adjacent panel to complete the side walls. The base flaps (2) are then folded over and fastened before the shaper is withdrawn, leaving the box with open top flaps (3) and ready to be filled. The shaper is one of a number moving along an endless drive system to provide continuous operation.

Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for shaping and partially continuous assembly of a package, from a pre-cut blank and repressed in a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard.

It relates more particularly to the realization by this method of a package comprising a plurality of side walls hinged together by first fold lines and at least some of which comprise, at at least one of their ends, a flap said "flap "articulated on the adjoining wall by a second fold line, the second fold lines associated with the flaps arranged at the same end being arranged in the same transverse plane of the packaging, so that the folded flaps are disposed substantially in this plane in contact with flaps contiguous and assembled and locked in this position by means known in the art.

The packages to which this process applies are in particular of the general type of American boxes or American half-boxes, straight prisms with parallel edges and polygonal section, or truncated truncated pyramid boxes with triangular base, quadrangular and , more generally, polygonal and, after setting volume, they remain open at one of their ends, so that we can proceed immediately to their filling.

Various continuous manufacturing processes have already been proposed for this purpose in the art, but one is always looking for a reliable and easy to implement process, even at high rates, which uses only mechanical means readily available.

Thus, FR 2 770 445 A discloses a method and a device for setting up the volume of cases or the like from a flat cut out of cardboard or corrugated cardboard, in which the different operations for shaping the cutting and gluing of a joining lug are carried out around a mandrel with a polygonal section similar to that of the box to be produced, which is rotated in a vertical plane relative to an axis horizontal, this chuck stopping at various stations (see pages 4, line 23 to page 5, line 17), before returning to its starting point.

The present invention aims to improve such methods by using a shaper such as a mandrel, around which a blank precut and repressed in a semi-rigid material is folded, shaped and assembled by gluing, while the mandrel moves in continuous, during these different operations, without any interruption of its movement.

L'invention a par conséquent pour objet un procédé selon la revendication 1.The subject of the invention is therefore a process according to claim 1.

The various shapers may be carried by a moving equipment moving along a closed path.

L'invention a également pour objet un dispositif selon la revendication 3.The invention also relates to a device according to claim 3.

The shapers, in number adapted to the rate of formation of the packages, serve to support the walls and flaps of the blank, when they are subjected to the thrust of the means which bring them into their assembly position on the shaper, and they also allow assembly by gluing or joining of these elements. These means may be for example fixed or mobile guides or controlled shutters.

One form of implementation of the method according to the invention will be described below in its application to a rectangular section of the type called "American box", but it will be clear to those skilled in the art that it applies to any other type of packaging with flaps and polygonal section, with or without parallel walls.

  • La figure 1 est une vue schématique de dessus du dispositif ;
In the description which follows, reference will be made to the attached schematic drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1 is a schematic top view of the device;
  • Figure 2 illustrates the setting volume and partial assembly of a package around the shaper.

In the example illustrated by the drawings, the corrugated cardboard blank comprises four walls 1 articulated to one another by first parallel fold lines and at each end of which are articulated by fold lines perpendicular to the preceding so-called shutters. "Flaps", respectively 2 and 3, intended to be folded perpendicularly to the adjacent walls.

A tongue 4 of bonding, which is articulated by a line parallel to the first fold lines following the free edge of a wall 1 not adjacent to the contiguous wall is intended to stick against the inner face of this contiguous wall.

The blanks precut and repressed are extracted one by one from a feeder 10 and are previously folded in J, as seen on the 2, before coming to cap a shaper 5 whose outer surface is substantially complementary to the inner surface of the American box to achieve, the folded blank J thus coming into contact with three contiguous walls 1 of this blank.

The shaper 5 is driven step-by-step, without interruption of movement, by a drive system at successive stations, between which or in which are provided means such as fixed or movable guides or controlled movable flaps, which bring the fourth wall 1 into contact with the shaper 5, with the tongue 4 previously glued in contact with the inner face of the wall 1 contiguous. These walls are then pressed against the shaper 5, so as to make them integral with the walls that are in contact.

The flaps 2 which are arranged in positions contiguous to one end of the shaper, after being glued, are then folded perpendicularly to the adjacent walls, to come into mutual contact and thus be assembled by gluing, while the flaps 2 arranged at the other end remain in the extension of the adjoining walls.

The American box 6 thus volume and partially assembled, but with an open end, is then released from the shaper 5 by relative sliding relative to one another, then it is straightened and discharged by a conveyor 7 to a filling station, while the shaper 5 is returned to its starting position to resume a new shaping cycle and assembly of a new blank.

Of course, a plurality of shapers 5 are used in synchronization, each in turn reaching one of the stations of the assembly and assembly cycle.

Each shaper 5 is carried by a moving element 8, which is driven continuously, without interruption of its movement, by a motor system, not shown, along a closed path, materialized by guides 9, of appropriate profile.

The method described here relates to a parallelepiped package, but it applies equally well to packagings with only three walls or more than four walls, the fold lines between the walls being parallel, as described herein, or arranged obliquely to form a volume of generally trapezoidal shape, or prism, or truncated pyramid.
