Description
Beschreibungdescription
Filter für elektromagnetisch übertragene SignaleFilters for electromagnetic signals
The invention relates to a filter for electromagnetically transmitted signals, in particular for signals to mobile telephones and similar consumer devices, according to the preamble of claim 1 and a telecommunication device according to the preamble of claim 14.
In the case of mobile telephones and similar portable telecommunication devices, for example also those used for the transmission of e-mails or other data to be transmitted via the Internet, faxes or other voice, text, image or other data, it is desirable to do so To be able to adapt devices to different transmission standards so that, for example, GSM-compatible devices can also be used outside of the GSM (Global System for mobile communication) standards, which expands the area of application considerably, particularly with mobile telecommunication devices. For this purpose, it is known, for example in so-called dual-band cell phones, to provide two complete transmitting and receiving units which are effective in the respective standard. This increases the weight and size of such devices. The manufacturing costs are also considerable. Equipping devices for more than two standards is usually too complex to open up market opportunities for such devices.
The invention is based on the problem of improving the usability of, in particular, mobile telecommunications devices.
The invention solves this problem by a filter with the features of claim 1 and by a telecommunications device with the features of claim 14. With regard to advantageous embodiments of the invention, reference is made to subclaims 2 to 13. With the adaptability of the filter according to the invention to different transmission standards, the installation of several filters which are effective independently of one another and depending on the respectively active standard is unnecessary. Instead, a filter or a filter group can be used for several, preferably for all transmission standards. This reduces weight, size and manufacturing costs. Depending on the degree of incidence, the filter characteristics can also be changed automatically within a transmission standard. In particular, it is not necessary for the same extensive filtering to be carried out in all transmission standards and with any reception quality. For example, suppression of interference in adjacent channels or attenuation of a blocking of interference occurring in far-lying frequency ranges may be necessary in individual cases and need not always be carried out with good transmission quality. Due to the adaptability of the filters, they can also be adapted to different transmission qualities.
If the filter or filters can advantageously be or are automatically adaptable to the respective transmission standard, this adaptation does not have to be carried out by a user. Incorrect operation due to incorrect filter adaptation, for example by shifting a filter center frequency in the wrong direction, is then excluded. In addition, controls for filter adaptation are completely unnecessary, which means that the manufacturing costs can be kept low.
The bit error rate, for example, can be used to adapt the filter, which increases when the filter adaptation is not optimal. Complete filter programs for the various standards can be stored, as well as ongoing fine-tuning and tracking as well as selection of the filter characteristics. The signal-to-noise ratio can also be used to control the filter characteristics. Risks are used, especially when a purely analog transmission takes place, such as the AMPS (analog mobile phone standard) that is widespread in the USA.
Alternatively or, for example, only for a rough setting, it is also possible to use a broadcast signal in the respective standard as a control signal for the selection of favorable filter parameters.
If the function describing the filter passage area is influenced, the filter can be adapted to various requirements. Neither the passage width nor the symmetry of the passage area need to be maintained in the different standards, but changing requirements can be adapted in each case. The set of coefficients of the function can also be adapted to fluctuating qualities within a transmission standard.
Further advantages and details of the subject matter of the invention result from an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention schematically shown in the drawing and described below.

The signal 3 to be processed by a filter 1 is a radio signal 3 emitted by a transmitter 2, for example a high-frequency signal. It can be received by an antenna 4 of a telecommunication device 5.
Bei einem Signal 3 beispielsweise im GSM-Standard liegt dieWith a signal 3, for example, in the GSM standard
A channel width is 200 kHz. The signal reception (downlink) of a telecommunications device 5 is then in the frequency range from 935 MHz to 960 MHz.
The filter 1 is characterized by a mathematical function 9 which has flanks 10, 11 falling towards the sides and has a pass band assigned to a filter center frequency 6.
When the currently effective transmission standard changes, for example, the transmission frequency is shifted. Correspondingly, the filter center frequency 6 must be tracked to participate in the current standard. The information about the shift of the filter center frequency 6 is carried out via the measures detailed below (evaluation of the bit error rate, the signal-to-noise ratio, or the like).
Filters 1 can suppress interference signals for signal processing and remedies against interference in adjacent channels (adjacent channel suppression). Damping of disturbances occurring at frequencies far away (blocking) is also possible by means of the filter or filters 1. This becomes necessary, for example, when interference signals with radio or TV frequencies, for example in the vicinity of corresponding transmitters, exert an excessive influence. Attenuation poles can also be targeted at strong interference frequencies can be used to hide only this particular frequency.
The characteristics of filter 1 can be described, for example, by a Chebyshev polynomial 9, the coefficient sets of which can be changed automatically in order to adapt to the various signals 3 received. By changing the coefficient sets, both the symmetry of the filter (falling of the edges 10, 11 to frequencies rising or falling from the center frequency 6) as well as the bandwidth of the pass band and the position 6 of the pass band (filter center frequency) can be tuned.
A control unit 7, which outputs a control signal for adapting the filter or filters 1, serves to implement the adaptability on the hardware side. The control unit 7 can in turn, for example, query the bit error rate, the signal-to-noise ratio, the signal-to-noise ratio or similar parameters reflecting the quality of the connection and thus determine the quality of the currently effective filtering and, if the quality is not optimal, scanning the filter center frequency 6 or, for example other relevant filter parameters. In order to determine the parameters mentioned for the quality of the connection, the control unit 7 contains a multiplexer, for example, which polls the parameters at timed intervals and compares them. In the event of deterioration, the filter 1 is adjusted. The filter parameters are preferably optimized one after the other in order to be able to carry out a superimposition of changes influencing one another in a controlled manner. A control loop is created with the above-mentioned input variable, since, depending on the adjustment of filter 1, the input variable (bit error rate, signal-to-noise ratio or the like) will show a corresponding change, on which the further filter adaptation depends. It is also possible to control the control unit 7 from a transmitted signal within the radio signal 3. Such a signal can, for example, Specify frequency 6 or, depending on the intensity of interference sources, specify a filter adaptation within a non-changing transmission standard.
In any case, the control unit 7 specifies the adaptation of the filter 1, so that this adaptation takes place automatically and as a function of a respective transmission. A user need not intervene here. A timed interrogation, for example, of the bit error rate or another parameter serving as a measure of the reception quality and a corresponding adjustment of the filter 1, if the quality is determined below a setpoint, ensures a constant quality of the signal transmission to the telecommunications device 5. This depends on the quality the control unit 7 is also activated within a transmission standard, as a result of which the filter or filters 1 can also be adapted during operation within a non-changing transmission standard. Only the filter functions that are currently required are particularly advantageously activated. A blocking that does not normally occur does not need to be taken into account in normal operation, and a damping pole only has to be activated when the control unit 7 sends a corresponding signal to the filter 1, for example in the vicinity of radio transmitters. The same applies, for example, to adjacent channel suppression.
The filter 1 comprises at least one, usually several, tunable resonant circuits 8. This means that the filter center frequency 6 can be shifted without increasing the installation effort. For this purpose, capacitors 12 with variable plate spacing (FIG. 3) or with changing capacitances depending on the state of a dielectric are known. The coefficient sets of the filter 1 can also be changed via the oscillating circuits 8 and the filter (s) 1 can thus be adapted to changed reception conditions. In addition to tuning one or more resonant circuits 8 can also be provided to switch additional oscillating circuits 8 on or off as required, for example in order to build up resonances.
This makes it clear that tunable capacitors 12 can be provided both in parallel and in series connection in differently designed resonant circuits 8. The more complex the filter structure, the more adjustments are possible. On the other hand, the manufacturing costs increase with increasing filter quality.
The hardware configuration of filters 1 is therefore dependent on several factors, including the space available in the telecommunications device, the transmission and reception performance, the extent of the desired adaptability, the production costs, etc. , Filters 1 with tunable resonant circuits 8 are also available as integrated circuits in order to be able to use them in a particularly space-saving manner.
The telecommunication device 5 can be a pure mobile phone or additionally or alternatively enable data transmission of any kind, in particular data exchange with the Internet or in local networks.
Regardless of the type of data exchange, only the filter characteristics that are needed at the same time are effective, not all the available filter options as before.
The invention results in a high large signal strength of the analog modules (power consumption, component costs).
