Definitions
- the present invention relates to a cutting device with a retractable blade. comprising a blade and a handle in which it is likely to be retract.
- Cutting devices with retractable blade comprising a blade sliding in a slide handle are well known.
- instruments of this type called cutter, allow to cut the paper, the cardboard or any other material generally in the form of sheets or plates.
- the blades used in these devices are very sharp to ensure efficient cutting and they are generally interchangeable to keep a fully operational instrument. So these instruments are relatively dangerous and many accidents occur during use. Usually, the user must exert a strong pressure on the neck of the instrument and print it a quick move to obtain a clean cut of the material to be cut. So when the blade contact with material ceases, user must also cease to move the said instrument with as much energy as is necessary for cutting. However, accidents generally occur when the contact of the blade with the material ceases and that carried away in its momentum, the user carries the instrument against him.
- a problem which arises and which the present invention aims to solve is then to make a cutting device with a retractable blade or the blade retracts into the handle before the clumsy user wears the device against him or any other person.
- a blade cutting device retractable comprising: blade support means, having means forming a drive stop, capable of sliding along the axis said handle between a first rest position where the blade is retracted and a first working position where the blade is extended outside said handle, said support means being, in said first position of work, likely to be brought from a second rest position to a second working position, spaced from the axis of said handle, passing through a second intermediate position; first elastic return means capable of holding said blade support means in said first rest position; controllable displacement means mounted on said handle, capable of cooperating with said means supports and to bear against said means forming a stop drive to drive said blade supports of said first rest position towards said first working position; support means capable of receiving said blade support means in said second working position to block them in translation; and the blade drive by means of said handle against a surface to be cut causes said support means in said second working position and causes the disengagement of said controllable displacement means engaged in said means forming a drive stop so that said means elastic return
- a characteristic of the cutting device resides in the mode of cooperation of the blade support means with the means controllable movement and with the support means, allowing simultaneously blocking the blade support means in translation in the second working position and disengagement of the means of movement controllable engaged in the means forming a drive stop.
- the support means release the blade support means which, driven by the elastic return means return to the first rest position in which the blade is fully retracted into the handle. Thanks to that characteristic, the user of the device cannot be injured since the blade is shrinks when it leaves the surface to be cut.
- said support means for blade having an upper part and a lower part, extend longitudinally and has a first end in which the blade is maintained in the extension of said blade support means, a intermediate part comprising said means forming a drive stop and a second guide end of said support means.
- the blade support means are capable of being guided in translation in the handle along their longitudinal axis between the rest position and the working position with controllable displacement means which apply in the middle part.
- the means forming a drive stop are consisting of two lug-shaped means arranged on the lateral faces of said intermediate part in its lower part, opposite one another and whose bearing surface is substantially perpendicular to said means supports.
- the lug means constitute stopping points perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the blade support means against which the controllable displacement means are supported when are controlled in translation.
- said displacement means controllable have a first part projecting out of the handle to order them, and a second part dividing into two branches symmetrical facing each other, likely to overlap said part at least in said intermediate portion and said first extremity, the branches being capable of bearing on the surfaces support means forming lug.
- the second part of the displacement means controllable must necessarily allow the passage of the first end of the blade support means and a fortiori of the blade so that they retract under the effect of elastic means when the means of movement are kept in the working position.
- said branches of said second part of said controllable displacement means are inclined one with respect to each other and with respect to a plane of symmetry which separates them, and the walls lateral of said upper part of said intermediate part constitute areas of friction against which the branches are likely to apply to deviate from each other when said support means of blade are driven towards said controllable displacement means, and disengage from said lug means.
- the second part of controllable displacement means forms a flared fork, the inner wall of the branches, at least in their middle position, comes in support against the upper side walls of the intermediate part.
- the ends of the branches may be engaged in the drive stop means located in the lower part of the intermediate part, when the blade support means are in the first working position.
- the second part of said means controllable displacement between the branches of which said part upper of said intermediate part is likely to be engaged constitutes said support means capable of blocking said means blade supports in said second working position. So when the blade is applied against the surface to be cut and the displacement means controllable are kept in their working position, the walls upper side of the intermediate part are embedded between the fork branches and spread them apart, but they also allow, as will be explained in more detail in the following description, the blocking in translation of the blade support means with respect to the means controllable travel.
- said first elastic return means are constituted by a helical spring, which drives the blade support means in the rest position when they are free from the fork.
- the device also comprises second elastic return means capable of maintaining said means of movement controllable in a rest position.
- the blade support means and the controllable means of movement are likely to be obtained by molding.
- Figure 1 illustrates a cutting device according to the invention in a resting state. It consists of a handle 10 and a retracted blade 12 in the sleeve 10.
- the blade 12 is mounted at the end 14 of means blade supports 16 or blade holder, which extend longitudinally according to their axis A.
- the blade holder 16 is capable of sliding inside the handle 10 along its longitudinal axis A to bring out the blade 12 to the open end 18 of the handle 10 and it is held in a first rest position, as illustrated in FIG. 1, by a helical spring 19.
- the blade holder 16 has an intermediate portion 20 and a second guide end 22, allowing both guiding in translation of the blade holder 16 and the maintenance of the blade 12 relative to the handle 10.
- the handle has a longitudinal housing 24, oriented towards the open end 18 of the handle 10, into which the blade holder 16 so as to guide it in translation.
- the cutting device comprises displacement means controllable 26, presenting a first part 28, or cursor, making protrusion out of the handle 10 and a second part 30 dividing in two symmetrical branches which will be detailed in the following description and which overlaps the upper part 32 of the blade holder 16 to extend up to look at the lower part 34 of the blade holder 16.
- the second part 30 is located opposite the intermediate part of the blade holder 16.
- the lower part 34 of the door blade 16 has, in the intermediate part 20, means forming a stop 36 which will also be detailed in the following description.
- controllable displacement means are shown on the Figure 1, in their rest position and they are likely to be moved parallel to the handle 10 on which they are mounted and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis A of the blade holder 16. Furthermore, they are held in their rest position by a helical spring 38.
- controllable displacement means 26 comprising the first part 28 forming a cursor, capable of being driven by the fingers of the hand and the second part 30 dividing into two symmetrical branches 30 a and 30 b with respect to a plane P and facing each other. It is understood that the first part 28 is located outside of the handle 10 and that the second part 30 is inserted into the handle 10.
- the branches 30 a and 30 b each have an end 39 and a middle portion 40 and 42 inclined relative to each other and relative to the plane P which separates them, so that the second part 30 forms a fork substantially flared.
- the branches 30 a and 30 b are elastically movable relative to each other perpendicular to the plane P and more particularly, they are capable of being spaced from one another and of returning to their initial position. when the constraint ceases. This characteristic is obtained by producing the controllable displacement means 26 made of plastic, for example polyamide.
- the controllable displacement means 26 cooperate with the blade support means 16 or blade holder, which can be found illustrated in perspective in FIG. 6 and which will now be described in more detail.
- the first end, devoid of blade, is extended by the intermediate part 20, itself extended by the second guide end 22.
- the intermediate part 20 comprises the means forming drive stop 36, located in the lower part 34 of the side wall of the blade holder 16. Obviously, means forming an identical drive stop 36 are located symmetrically on the opposite side wall.
- FIG 6A a detail view from below, illustrates the means forming a drive stop 36 integral with the intermediate portion 20 which itself is extended by the first end 14.
- the stop means 36 constitute a lug the bearing face 44 is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis A of the blade support 16.
- the lug 36 is located against the lateral face of the intermediate part 20 near the edge that the first end 14 extends. In this way, the intermediate part 20 has a lateral support face 46, against which the branch 30b of the second part 30 of the controllable displacement means is capable of being applied.
- FIG. 6 also shows the second end 22, which extends the intermediate part, with a profile of type "IPE" so as to stiffen and facilitate guidance.
- the side walls of said part upper 32 of said intermediate portion 20 are slightly truncated so as to form inclined surfaces 48 symmetrical with respect to the plane T, on each side of the blade holder 16. These inclined surfaces 48 constitute friction zones against which the branches are likely to apply as explained in the following description with reference in Figures 7A and 7B.
- the inclined surfaces 48 are entrained against the internal walls of the inclined median portions 40 and 42, and slides while rubbing against them while spreading the branches 30 a and 30 b since the width of the intermediate part 20 is constant and that fork formed by the branches 30 a and 30 b is flared.
- the end 38 of the branches 30 a and 30 b comes off the lateral support faces 46 so that the edges of the ends 39 disengage from the support faces 44 of the lugs 36 and the translational locking of the blade holder 16 relative to the controllable displacement means 26 is no longer ensured by the cooperation of the lugs 36 and the edges of the end 39 of the branches 30 a and 30 b .
- the blade holder 16 is locked in translation by the branches 30a and 30b, the inner wall of middle portions 40, 42 blocks by friction the intermediate part 20 and therefore, the longitudinal movement of the blade holder 16.
- Figure 1 illustrates the cutting device according to the invention at rest.
- the blade holder 16 is located in a first rest position corresponding to a position in which the blade 12 is retracted. In this position, the controllable displacement means 26 are also in a rest position. And the position of the second part 30 of the controllable displacement means 26 relative to the blade holder 16, is that which is shown in FIG. 7A.
- the ends 39 of the branches 30 a and 30 b are then in abutment against the lateral bearing faces 46 and their edge is opposite the bearing surfaces 44 of the pins 36.
- This first working position corresponds to a second position of rest, and only in a second working position illustrated on the Figure 3 in which the blade 12 is applied against the surface to be cut that the actual cutting takes place.
- the internal wall of the middle portions 40, 42 blocks by friction the intermediate part 20 and therefore, the longitudinal movement of the blade holder 16.
- the blade holder 16 is released in translation by the edges of the ends 39 which cooperate with the lugs and locked in translation by the inclined median portions 40 and 42 of the branches 30 a and 30 b .
- This second working position is maintained as long as the blade 12 is held against the surface to be cut, and the cursor 28 is held in position.
- the blade support 16 is no longer forcibly moved against the internal wall of the middle portions 40, 42, and it moves from the second position working towards a second intermediate position due to the approximation of the branches 30 a and 30 b from one to the other.
- the middle portions 40, 42 no longer block in translation the blade support 16 and the pins 36 do not engage in the branches 30 a and 30 b .
- the blade support is driven in the first rest position, as shown in Figure 4.
- the slider 28 is held in position , the blade is retracted.
- the blade support means have fork means and the controllable displacement means have a part capable of cooperating with said fork means, and in particular they comprise means forming a lug.
