Abstract

The insertion process involves dividing the book block (1) into at least two outer part blocks and one inner part block by means of a dividing device. The marker tape, of preset length, is laid in the path of the inner part block transversely to the transporting direction (21). It is attached by a holding device directly adjacent to the path of the inner part block by a guide device.

Description

The invention relates to a method for inserting at least one reading tape in book blocks according to the preamble of claim 1 and to an apparatus for carrying out the method according to the preamble of claim 14.

With books upscale equipment, it is common to provide so-called read or Einmerkerbänder that allow the reader to mark by inserting between two pages a particular place in the book book. They are attached to the top of the book block spine inside the cover at the book block spine. Such reading tapes are chosen in length so that their free end protrudes a bit beyond the book block foot side so that the reader can grab the reading tape there and open the book on the marked side. In the delivery condition of a book, however, the free end of the tape reading should not hang out below the book block foot page, but some pages of the book to be folded back with the free end in the book block. In book production, the prescribed insertion and folding of the reading tapes is performed by machine.

In a known method according to DE-OS 20 100 74, for example, the book block is transported seated with the book block back on a conveyor belt and divided by a dividing device into two sub-blocks, between which a wedge-shaped gap is formed. In this wedge-shaped gap, the reading tape is then inserted so that it protrudes a bit both on the book block head page and on the Buchblockfußseite. In a next step, the reading tape is cut off in the area of the book block foot, so that the free end protrudes a bit. In a next step, the free end of the reading tape is applied by compressed air to the book block and beaten back with a folding device in the book block. The end of the reading tape protruding from the book block head is turned over to the outside of the book block back by means of a transfer device and glued there. Such a method is performed clocked and is complicated and expensive due to the separate Umfaltschrittes. Known devices for driving through this process require a high maintenance and require a relatively large amount of space. A clocked production process also places high demands on the accuracy of the conveyor drives and their control.
In another known method, the book blocks are consecutively moved a minimum distance continuously from a conveyor belt. Also in this method, the reading tape is first inserted into the wedge-shaped gap of a divided book block, wherein the reading tape is fed in the parting plane. Subsequently, the inserted reading tape is cut and folded in the gaps between the book blocks by means of clocked cutting and gripping devices. In this method, it is disadvantageous that, although not the drive means for the book blocks must work clocking, but it is necessary to let the cutting and gripping devices clocked intervene in the gaps between the book blocks. Also in this method, the folding back of the free end of the tape reading only after inserting the reading tape in the book block.

In the following the operation of the device according to the invention will be explained in more detail.

Dabei weist die Buchblockfußseite 5 in Richtung der Förderrichtung 23 und die Buchblockkopfseite 4 in Richtung des Einlaufbereichs 31.During a first method section A (FIG. 1), the book block 1 to be processed rests with the book block back 7 on the conveyor toothed belt 22 and is transported standing in the conveying direction 23 by means of a driving web 27. In this case, the book block foot side 5 points in the direction of the conveying direction 23 and the book block head side 4 in the direction of the inlet region 31.

In a subsequent process section B (FIG. 1), the book block 1 runs onto the divider device 32, so that the sharpened tips 34 hit the book block 1, preferably on the book block foot side 5, either in the area of the book block front 8 or possibly in the area of the book block back 7 the book block 1 in three sub-blocks, ie in a first outer sub-block 101, a second outer sub-block 102 and a split between these arranged inner sub-block 103, wherein the inner sub-block 103 passes through the vertical gap 35 of the divider 32 and the outer sub-blocks 101, 102 are pressed by the divider blades 33, 34 to the outside and supported on the guide rods 30. During further transport, the inner sub-block 103 passes into the guide gap 43 of the guide 40, wherein the guide walls 41 and 42 respectively engage in the V-shaped gaps 104 and 105 of the book block 1 formed by the inner sub-block 103 and the outer sub-blocks 101 and 102 ,

Fig. 2). During the division of the book block 1 in the sub-blocks 101, 102, 103, the free end 3 'of the reading tape 2' is detected by means of the gripping device 62 at the end of the Zuführstempels 60. Subsequently, the deduction cutting device 50 is moved a distance along the direction 51 counter to the conveying direction 23 and then cut the reading tape 2 to the desired length. Then, by means of the Zuführstempels 60, the free end 3 'of the now cut to length reading tape 2 through the free holes form 65, 66, until it projects beyond the guide cheek 42 a piece. Subsequently, the clamping lever 70 is pivoted, so that the reading tape is clamped in the region of the second guide cheek 42 in the vicinity of the end 3 ', wherein it passes through the guide gap 43 bridging the mold recess 65 in the first guide cheek 41 (method section C, see FIG 2). Thus, a part of the tape 2 is held transversely to the conveying direction 23 in one piece in the course of the inner sub-block 103, which meets with its Teilblockfußkante 106 (Fig. 3) on the guide gap 43 bridging portion of the tape reader 2.

In a subsequent process section D (FIG. 3), the further transport of the book block 1 captures the reading tape 2 from the front edge of the inner sub-block 103 and the unclamped area through the forming hole 65 of the first guide cheek 41 and thereby inevitably and fully automatically correctly inserted into the V-shaped gap 104, 105. In this case, a relative movement of the reading tape 2 relative to the Teilblockfußseite 106 takes place in the direction of arrow 110. Thus, the loose end of the reading tape 2 is pulled by the mold recess 65 around the front edge 106 of the inner sub-block 103.

If the book block 1 has passed through the mold recesses 65, 66 (method section E, FIG. 1), the cut length of the reading tape 2 is used up in such a way that the unclamped free end is located in the gap 104 near the book block foot side 5 (FIG. 1). The clamping lever 70 is then released and thus the read tape end 3 'released. The book block 1 with the inserted between the pages reading tape 2, which is inevitably turned over buchblockfußseitig is further transported. The book, which is still slightly open, is closed again following insertion of the reading tape 2 through successive guide elements 30, so that the end product of the book block 1 is inlaid reading tape 2 folded in at the free end 3 according to FIG. 1, with the fastening end 6 protrudes over the book block head page 4 a piece and subsequently folded in a known manner and glued to the book block back 7.

In the method according to the invention and the device according to the invention, it is of particular advantage that the reading tape can be cut to the desired length, regardless of the book format, and then fed to the book block as a single band. In addition, the length of the read tape is thereby freely selectable within very wide limits. In extreme cases, even reading tapes can be inserted, which are shorter than the book block format.

Furthermore, it is of particular advantage that the insertion and transfer of the reading tape is done in a single step, whereby the book block mechanically loaded only very low and thus spared. The previously necessary in such devices devices for transferring and wrapping the tape reading can thus be omitted. Due to the positive transport of the book block, which positively pending on the carrier web 27 during the entire funding period and also the book block 1 is on the belt 22, a particularly gentle mode of transport has been implemented because no grinding marks occur by rubbing conveyor belt.

With the method according to the invention, a plurality of reading tapes can be inserted simultaneously instead of one single reading tape (FIG. 6). This has the advantage that the book block for inserting multiple reading tapes only once must be divided twice. For example, for the simultaneous insertion of two reading tapes is starting from the arrangement in Fig. 1, a second unit with reading tape roll, welding device and guide roller laterally offset to the unit shown in Fig. 1 52 to 54 provided, for example, in Fig. 6 offset to the right , After the second reading tape is guided over its own deflection roller, it passes together with the reading belt 2 'via the guide roller 54 in the direction of the trigger / cutter 50. Subsequently, the second reading tape is fed together with the reading tape 2 of the guide 40 and there as explained for the reading tape 2 inserted into a book block. A particular advantage of these juxtaposed and each with its own Verschweißeinrichtung 53 equipped Lesebandzuführeinheiten is that the two reading tapes are welded separately from each other before they are merged, so that a mutual welding is avoided, as in the previously used common welding unit for multiple reading tapes the case may be.

With reference to FIG. 5, a variant of the device area or method section E (FIG. 1) together with a relevant modification of the device according to the invention explained.

In particular, FIG. 5 shows only the parts of the device 20 of FIG. 1 required for explaining the variant in the region of the guide device 40 without showing the divider device 32 and the guide elements 30 and without depicting book blocks.

As already explained above with reference to FIG. 1, the reading belt 2, coming from its supply roll, after having passed through the associated sealing device, passes through the trigger / cutter 50. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the trigger / cutter device comprises guide means two in the transverse direction with respect to the conveying direction of the transport device 21 with respect to each other staggered deflection rollers 121, 122 and a pair of them in the conveying direction downstream squeezing rollers 123, 124. In the direction of tape follows the squeezing rollers 123, 124 a gripping means in the form of two jaws, of which is adjustable transversely to the tape running direction for gripping the tape 2 by an actuator 126. The gripping means 125 is followed immediately by a cutting device 127. These parts of the device 50 are arranged on a lifting carriage 50A, which is mounted reciprocatingly in the conveying direction of the conveying device 21 along the double arrow 51.

Based on the conveying direction of the conveyor 21, a gripping unit 128 is provided behind the guide 40, which serves to grasp the free front end 3 of the tape 2, by means of two jaws 129, 130, one of which in the transverse direction with respect to the tape running direction is movable and driven by an actuating device 130.

Instead of the feed punch 60 shown in FIG. 1 for feeding the free strip end 3 to the forming holes 65, 66 of the guide device 40, a feed slide 132 is provided in the variant of the inventive device according to FIG. 5, which extends transversely to the strip running direction and in one direction is oscillatingly movable transversely to the strip running direction. The feed carriage 132 has an elongated spatial form with an end 133 facing the guide 40, with which a gripping device with clamping jaws (not shown) for the free end 3 of the reading belt 2 is arranged. On the side of the gripping device (in Fig. 5, to the left of this) is located on the feed carriage 132, a tuyere 134 on the side facing away from the guide 40 side of the free reading tape end 3 at a distance from this. To the tuyere 134 is connected in a manner not shown via a control valve means a compressed air source and the tuyere 134 is arranged on the feed carriage 132 that the air jet generated by it passes through the holes 65, 66 in the guide 40.

The operation of the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 is as follows. In the initial state, the reading tape 2 is subtracted by an operator from the storage roll, guided around the pulleys 121, 122, between the pinch rollers 123, 124 and passed through the open gripping means 125, of which the band with its free end 3 typically 2 to 3 cm is allowed to stand up. Then, the gripping means 125 is activated to set the reading tape 2. Next, the lifting carriage 50a is activated and started in the direction of the feed carriage 132, the gripping device is in the open state, so that the free end of the tape 3 at the end of the stroke of the lifting carriage 50a between the open jaws 129, 130 of the gripping unit 128 to lie comes. Now, the gripping means 125 is opened, so that the reading tape 2 is held exclusively at its free end by the jaws 129, 130 of the clamping unit 131, while it is otherwise at its storage roll is fixed. Now there is a format-dependent return stroke of the lifting carriage 50A. As soon as the lifting carriage 50a has moved out of the collision area of the feed carriage 132 together with the other components of the trigger / cutter 50, the gripper device of the feed carriage 132 detects the reading belt 2. As soon as the trigger / cutter 50 is in the format position, it closes its gripping means 125 and the cutting means 127 cuts off the reading tape 2. The feed carriage 132 now moves the exclusively held by its gripping device free end of the tape 3 in the direction of the forming hole 65. Once the tape end 3 has reached its intended end position in front of the forming hole 65, the tape end 3 is passed through the die hole 65 and then through the tuyere 134 the molding hole 66 is blown until it protrudes above the latter molding hole as shown in FIG. Now, the method according to the invention proceeds in the same manner as explained above with reference to FIG. 2, after the gripper device of the feed carriage 132 has released the tape end 3, whereupon this carriage performs a return stroke in its starting position.

The method and the device can be used offline as well as preferably inline in book production lines. The book block sequence does not have to be continuous, as with other known methods, since each book block is assigned a single cut-to-length read tape.
