Description

The invention relates to a filter cigarette, the filter of which is surrounded by a filter wrapping paper which encloses a tip coating, the inside of the filter wrapping paper being coated with metal, in particular with aluminum.

The development of cigarettes with reduced smoke constituents, in particular nicotine, condensate and carbon monoxide, has been driven forward globally by legal regulations, a higher level of consumer acceptance and an increased health awareness.

Highly tuft-permeable and easy-to-burn cigarette papers are usually used for the production of cigarettes with reduced smoke constituents and the cigarette filter was additionally ventilated through a perforated zone of the mouthpiece covering. Both technical measures dilute the main stream smoke through secondary air and thereby reduce the concentration of smoke constituents. The use of filter material with a high retention effect and high tensile resistance also results in a reduction in the smoke content, but comes up against limitations in consumer acceptance.

In the prior art, cigarette filters are known from DE 3038093 A1, WO 89/03183 A1 and CH 343865, in which metal is introduced into the filter. On the one hand, this means a considerable additional effort in the production of the filter, on the other hand, the effect achieved is only described very vaguely in its effect.

The invention is therefore based on a filter cigarette, the filter of which is surrounded by a filter wrapping paper which surrounds a tip coating, wherein air can penetrate into the filter through the filter wrapping paper. According to the invention it is provided that the coating is applied only to part of the filter wrapping paper so that air can penetrate through it into the filter.

The metallization can be carried out by applying in particulate form and / or by suitably applying flat patterns to the wrapping paper on the paper surface, but not by completely coating the filter wrapping paper. Surprisingly, a partial coating of the filter wrapping paper with metallic surfaces causes a selective reduction in the carbon monoxide content of the main stream smoke.

Dabei zeigt:

  • Fig. 1 ein erfindungsgemäßes Filterumwickelpapier mit Aluminiumstreifen und
Further features and details of the present invention result from the following description of the figures. It shows:
  • Fig. 1 is an inventive filter wrapping paper with aluminum strips and
  • Fig. 2 is an inventive filter wrapping paper with a finely divided and highly porous aluminum layer.

In FIG. 1, aluminum strips were applied to a commercially available highly porous paper for wrapping cigarette filters (Papierfabrik Wattens GmbH, QNo. 27400) with an air permeability of 6000 CU by means of a hot-foil process. The width of the wrapping paper was 26.5 mm, the width of the aluminum strip was 1 mm. The distance between the strips was 1 mm. Filter rods for cigarettes were produced in a manner known per se from a bobbin with a length of approx. 1000 m and with industrial acetate cable. In the drawing, the structure of such a filter rod made of acetate cable 1, wrapping paper 2 and mouthpiece covering 3 is shown, with 4 the aluminum strips according to the invention are designated.

For comparison purposes, cigarettes were produced on the basis of the same composition with regard to filters, cigarette paper and tobacco mixture, but without a previous zone-wise coating of the filter wrapping paper. The manufactured cigarettes were smoked in a smoke laboratory under standardized conditions. The smoke constituents of the main smoke stream have a selectively and significantly lower carbon monoxide content, as shown in Table 1. Fig. 2 zeigt eine andere erfindungsgemäße Ausführungsform. Here, the filter wrap paper 2 was coated with aluminum in a finely divided manner, with the structure of the filter rod remaining the same with respect to the acetate cable 1 and the mouthpiece covering 3, but the aluminum layer 5 was highly porous. This type of aluminum coating ensures that the air permeability of the filter wrapping paper is sufficiently maintained, so that, as in the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, sufficient air can enter the side of the cigarette filter.

Zugzahl Nikotin (mg/Zig) Nikotinfreies Trockenkondensat (mg/Zig.) CO (mg/Zig.) Modifiziertes Filterumwickelpapier 7,71 0,43 7,67 11,33 Standard Filterumwickelpapier 7,99 0,46 7,62 14,26 To compare and demonstrate the effect of the highly porous aluminum layer 5, in addition to the embodiments according to the invention shown in FIG. 2, otherwise identical cigarette filters were also produced on the wrapping paper 2 without the aluminum coating 5 according to the invention. With these filter sticks, equivalent cigarettes with and without the coating 5 according to the invention were otherwise machined. The cigarettes thus produced differ from one another only in the presence of the coating 5 according to the invention. The cigarettes thus produced were also smoked in a smoke laboratory under standardized conditions, as in the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1. The measured smoke constituents of the main smoke stream also have a selectively and significantly lower carbon monoxide content and thus the same effect as in the first embodiment. Table 2 shows the results of the measurement of the same parameters as in Table 1, however, in comparison between cigarettes with standard filter wrapping paper and with the filter wrapping paper 2 coated with a finely divided, highly porous aluminum layer 5 according to the invention. Tab. 2: Results of the standardized smoking of cigarettes with (modified) and without (standard) finely divided, highly porous aluminum coating 5 on the filter wrapping paper 2. puff number Nicotine (mg / cig) Nicotine-free dry condensate (mg / cig.) CO (mg / cig.) Modified filter wrapping paper 7.71 0.43 7.67 11.33 Standard filter wrapping paper 7.99 0.46 7.62 14,26

Obviously, the invention combines the known advantage of filter ventilation with an effect due to the metal coating. Here, the two exemplary embodiments show that the effect can be detected regardless of the type of metal coating, as long as the combination of air permeability of the filter wrapping paper and the metal coating of the filter wrapping paper mentioned in claim 1 is ensured. This makes it clear that the invention in this sense is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown, but rather includes all possible combinations of the exemplary embodiments shown here and other exemplary embodiments within the meaning of claim 1.

It remains to be determined which physical or chemical mechanism is responsible for this effect. A possible explanation would be the adsorption of carbon monoxide on the metal, whereas a purely catalytic effect is unlikely due to the low temperature in the filter.
