Definitions
- the invention describes a method for operating a burner according to the preamble of claim 1. It further describes a burner which is suitable for carrying out the method.
- EP 0 321 809, EP 0 780 629, WO 9317279 and EP 0 945 677 have disclosed premix burners in which a combustion air flow is introduced tangentially into a burner interior via a swirl generator and mixed with fuel at the burner outlet the resulting vortex flow at a cross-sectional jump, whereby a remindströmzone is induced, which serves to stabilize a flame during operation of the burner.
- the axial position of the self-adjusting remindströmzone is crucial for the stabilization of the flame, and in turn is essentially determined by the axial flow in the center of the burner. If this axial flow is too weak, the recirculation area and therefore the flame migrate into the burner interior. There is a risk of backflushing the Flame and successive overheating of the burner. If, conversely, the axial flow is too strong, the backflow zone can become detached from the burner outlet and become unstable. The result can be severe harmful combustion pulsations or even extinguishment of the flame.
- the invention aims to remedy this situation.
- the invention as characterized in the claims, the object underlying the invention to provide a method of the type mentioned, which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art. Furthermore, a burner is to be specified, which is suitable for carrying out the method.
- the core of the invention is therefore to adapt the axial momentum of the central flow to the thermal burner load. This makes it possible to specifically influence the position and intensity of the backflow zone.
- the centrally introduced amount of air is reduced at low burner load in such a way that the return flow zone forms very close to the burner or even partially even in the burner interior, resulting in a superior flame stability results.
- the flame itself is inherently more stable.
- the centrally introduced amount of air is increased, such that the backflow zone reliably a Route downstream of the Brenner estuary comes to rest. Thermal overload of the burner is thereby avoided.
- the invention is preferably carried out using premix burners which are well-known and familiar to those skilled in the art as such from the cited prior art.
- the invention can be readily combined with all of the publications cited therein, and further developed from these writings, known in the art, swirl generator and burner designs, which are reflected by the specified in the device sub-claims preferred variants only incompletely.
- variable central geometry in conjunction with the familiar to the expert operating concepts for gas turbines with premix burners continues to ensure a low-emission and at the same time stable, pulsation-free operation.
- a variation of the conditions on individual burners can finally be used selectively in order to prevent acoustic resonances in the combustion chamber by detuning individual burners.
- FIG. 1 shows a premix burner suitable for implementing the method according to the invention, as has become known per se from EP 0 321 809.
- the burner essentially consists of a swirl generator 100 for a combustion air stream, which is formed from two conical partial bodies 101, 102.
- a swirl generator 100 for a combustion air stream which is formed from two conical partial bodies 101, 102.
- FIG. 2 it can be seen that the partial bodies 101 and 102 with their axes 101a and 102a are offset relative to the burner axis 100a as well as mutually offset laterally. Due to this lateral offset of the partial bodies, tangential inlet slots 121 are formed between the partial bodies. Through the tangential inlet slots 121, a combustion air flow 141 flows substantially tangentially into the interior 122 of the swirl generator.
- Fig. 3 is the completely analogous structure with, for example shown four swirler-part bodies 101, 102, 103 and 104, with the staggered axes 101 a, 102 a, 103 a, 104 a of the partial body.
- a swirl flow 144 is formed inwardly of the swirl generator, the axial flow component of which faces toward a downstream orifice of the swirl generator.
- the body parts 101, 102 adjoin a front plate 108 at a downstream end of the swirl generator.
- the front plate 108 usually forms the end wall of a combustion chamber 50, and is often cooled in a manner not shown in the figure and not essential to the invention.
- the interior 122 of the swirl generator has substantially the shape of a truncated cone extending from an upstream to a downstream end of the swirl generator or burner.
- the axial flow cross-section formed in this way has a sudden cross-sectional widening at a downstream end, at the mouth into the combustion chamber 50. Due to the jump in the cross section, the vortex flow 144 bursts open and a return flow zone 123 forms in the region of the burner mouth.
- the combustion air flow is supplied with a suitable amount of fuel.
- fuel lines 111 are arranged along the part bodies in the axial direction of the swirl generator, in the region of the tangential inlet slots 121. In the exemplary embodiment, rows of fuel outlet holes 1111 can be seen.
- a fuel quantity 142 is supplied via the fuel lines 111, and flows via the fuel outlet openings 1111 into the interior 122 of the swirl generator 100.
- This type of fuel admixture is frequently and preferably used with gaseous fuels.
- In the interior of the swirl generator there is an intensive mixing of the amount of fuel 142 with the tangentially incoming combustion air 141.
- At the outlet from the burner into the combustion chamber 50 in the swirl flow 144 is a very homogeneous mixture of air and fuel. In the region of the return flow zone 123, a flame from the premixed air-fuel mixture can stabilize.
- Vortex Breakdown the purely aerodynamic flame stabilization by the bursting of the vortex flow 144
- Vortex Breakdown By dispensing with mechanical flame holders, no mechanical components come into contact with the flame per se. The dreaded failure of mechanical flame holders due to overheating with possibly subsequent serious accidents of machine sets is thus excluded. Furthermore, the flame loses no heat except on cold walls due to radiation. This also contributes to the uniformity of the flame temperature and thus low pollutant emissions and good combustion stability.
- a decisive factor for the operating behavior of such a burner, as indicated in the figure, is the position of the return flow zone 123.
- a flip-flop effect of the flame can oscillate between two combustion modes inside and outside the burner. Furthermore, a spatially larger combustion zone is desired for a high load.
- a smaller swirl number of the swirling flow 144 is desirable and feasible, but this restricts the operating range to small loads.
- the flow parameters of the combustion air flow which are to be given constructively must always be a compromise, not least because of the fact that, for example, when used in gas turbines, the inflow conditions of the combustion air to the burner with respect to the mass flow, the temperature and the pressure vary greatly anyway difficult to create a defined combustion air flow.
- an axial central flow 145 is introduced into the center of the burner along the burner axis, respectively the swirler axis 100a. To adapt to the operating conditions, the central flow is variable.
- the injection device shown here consists of a Naturalström stresses 1121.
- the bottom 1124 has.
- the bottom 1124 has an opening 1125 whose diameter is smaller than the inner diameter of the cylinder bore.
- the throughflow body 1121 ends flush with the open side at an upstream, ie upstream end of the burner or the swirl generator 100, while the bottom 1124 points with its opening to the interior 122 of the burner.
- the axial central flow 145 can be controlled and thus the position and intensity the remindströmzone 123 are changed. This makes it possible, the Adjust the intensity of the central flow to the operating conditions of the burner.
- the stable and safe operating range of the burner is thus significantly expanded again.
- the axial central flow is comparatively strongly throttled at low loads, such that the return flow zone comes to lie close to the burner mouth.
- the thermal load of the burner increases, which can be expressed, for example, by an increasing fuel supply to the burner, the axial flow is released more, whereby the return flow zone is further driven away from the burner mouth.
- liquid fuel or so-called pilot gas for the fuel gas operation of the burner is introduced into the combustion air flow in the lowest part-load range via such a central nozzle; it can also be combined.
- the centrally introduced fuel 146 is supplied to the fuel nozzle 113 via a fuel line 1131.
- a fuel cone 147 Shown in the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 4 is a fuel cone 147, for example a liquid fuel spray, which extends from the central fuel nozzle 113 in the interior 122 of the swirl generator, and further downstream mixed successively with the swirl flow 144.
- a fuel cone 147 for example a liquid fuel spray
- the central fuel supply can be used, on the one hand to supply the above-mentioned so-called pilot gas.
- burners it is known to carry out such burners as dual-fuel burners which can be operated with both gaseous and liquid fuels; in this case a central liquid fuel nozzle is used in practice.
- both liquid fuel nozzles and pilot gas supplies in the head area of a burner.
- in the head region of the burner often find still nozzles for water or steam injection, which is often used to achieve a further reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions in the oil or pilot gas operation of the burner. In such cases, there are sometimes very cramped spaces in the head area of the burner, which make it impossible to use a central air supply of the type shown in FIG. 1 in the first preferred embodiment.
- FIG. 5 Fuel line 1131 with the fuel nozzle 113, a substantially annular flow body 1121 is arranged.
- the fürström stresses 1121 is provided with a number of inner control bores, and arranged concentrically in an outer body 1126.
- the outer body 1126 is provided with a number of outer control bores 1127, wherein each outer control bore 1127 of the outer body 1126 is associated with an inner control bore 1128 of the fürström stressess 1121.
- the central flow flows through pairs of control bores into the annular gap formed between the fuel line 1131 or the fuel nozzle 113 and the flow-through body 1121, and from there axially into the interior 122 of the swirl generator.
- the outer body 1126 and the modifiability 1121 are relative to each other rotatable and / or arranged axially displaceable.
- the degree of overlap of inner control bores 1128 and outer control bores 1127 thus thus the flow area and the mass flow of the central flow 145, can be varied.
- FIG. 1 Another exemplary burner is shown in FIG.
- the burner 1 is arranged on a combustion chamber 20, for example a gas turbine, and opens into a combustion chamber 50. Air flows from a compressor, not shown, into an air chamber 60, which is enclosed by a housing 4. Within the housing 4, a burner hood 5 is arranged, which in turn encloses the burner 1. Within the burner hood a plenum 55 is formed which is in fluid communication with the air chamber 60. A combustion air flow 141 flows from the air chamber 60 into the plenum 55, and from there through tangential inlet slots into the interior of the burner 1, where this air in the manner described above forms a swirling flow and is mixed with fuel.
- the burner is provided with a central injection device 112 in the manner described above.
- the central injection device is connected to a central air supply line 1129.
- the air chamber 60 is provided with a bypass line 61.
- the bypass line 61 and the central air supply line 1129 are connected to one another such that a central air flow 145 can flow from the bypass line 61 to the central air supply line 1129.
- an adjustable throttle member 62 is arranged as an actuator for the central air flow 145.
- the central air flow can also be varied as described above and adapted to the load conditions of the burner.
- the exemplary embodiment shown here requires, on the one hand, an increased amount of equipment, since a line system has to be arranged; in return, the mechanically comparatively sensitive actuator can be arranged at a suitable and less thermally stressed point.
- FIG. 7 A special embodiment of the central air supply with actuator is shown in Fig. 7. Both the air bypass 61 and the central air supply line 1129 open into an overflow 63. Within the overflow a throttle valve 64 is arranged. This is rotatably mounted about an axis, as indicated by the arrow in the drawing. By rotating the throttle flap 64, the free flow cross section of the overflow space can be changed, resulting in a variation of the central air flow 145 results.
- Premix burners are familiar to the person skilled in various designs, which differ from the burners shown in FIGS. 1, 4, 6 and 7, which essentially consist of a conical swirl generator, in the concrete embodiment. However, all these burners are based on a common principle: they have a swirl generator in the form of a hollow body with a longitudinal extent, which encloses a swirl generator interior. The swirl generator further has inlet slots extending in the direction of the swirl generator longitudinal axis or inlet openings arranged in the direction of the longitudinal axis, whose flow cross-section essentially defines a tangential flow direction.
- combustion air flows with a strong tangential velocity component in the swirler interior, where it forms a swirl flow with a certain to Brennermündung directed into the combustion chamber axial component.
- the axial flow cross section of the swirl generator interior is widened toward the burner mouth.
- This design is favorable in order to achieve a constant swirl number of the swirl flow in the direction of the swirl generator axis increasing combustion air mass flow in the swirl generator interior.
- these burners have means for introducing fuel into the combustion air flow, which mixes as homogeneously as possible with the twisted combustion air in the swirl generator and in a mixing zone, for example a mixing tube, to be arranged downstream of the swirl generator.
- the actual mixing tube 230 is arranged.
- the mixing tube if necessary, it comes to a further homogenization of the mixing of combustion air and fuel. Due to the uniform provision of an ignitable mixture over the Throughout the flow cross-section of the mixing tube, there is the danger that a flame ignites back into the mixing tube along the low-impulse wall boundary layers. Therefore, the mixing tube is provided with running at an acute angle to the burner axis wall film holes 231. About this flows an amount of air 150 in the mixing tube, where it forms a wall film.
- the mixing tube 230 has at the mouth into the combustion chamber 50 via a tear-off edge 232, which also stabilizes the shape and position of forming at the burner mouth scrubströmzone 123.
- the mixing tube is fastened to a front segment 108 that simultaneously forms a combustion chamber wall, which in this example is impact-cooled by impact cooling plates 109 and impingement cooling air 149.
- a front segment 108 that simultaneously forms a combustion chamber wall, which in this example is impact-cooled by impact cooling plates 109 and impingement cooling air 149.
- the burner shown in FIG. 8 is also equipped with a controllable injection device (not shown in detail) for an axial central flow 145, which acts as in the exemplary embodiments described above.
- a controllable injection device for an axial central flow 145, which acts as in the exemplary embodiments described above.
- this can also be combined here with a central fuel nozzle.
- WO 93/17279 and EP 0 945 677 likewise disclose burners which have cylindrical swirl generators with tangential combustion air inlets.
- a displacement body tapering towards the burner mouth inside a cylindrical swirl generator.
- a swirl generator inner body can continue the above-mentioned favorable criteria for the axial flow cross-section of the swirl generator, namely, that the axial flow cross-section in axial Flow direction increases, are met.
- FIGS. 9 and 10 The first embodiment in Figure 9 shows the principle of such a burner. The operation is well known and explained in principle in connection with Figure 1; Notwithstanding the embodiment of a burner according to the invention shown in FIG. 1, however, the embodiment shown in FIG.
- the injection device 112 for axial central flow 145 is expediently arranged in the region of the downstream end of this displacement body.
- the inflow to the injection device 112 can be advantageously arranged in the interior of the displacement body; There is also room for the invention to be arranged on the burner control means.
- central fuel injections can of course be arranged here without problems, if required.
- Fig. 10 shows in more detail such an embodiment of the burner as described in detail in the basic form in EP 0 945 677.
- the displacement body 105 is hollow and formed bluntly at its end facing the combustion chamber 50.
- the axial central flow injection device 112 is disposed within the hollow displacement body 105 open to the upstream upstream side of the burner.
- the mass flow of the axial flow 145 can be changed by means of an axially displaceable central body 1122 with a control cone 1123.
- the actual control mechanism with the cone for reasons of space in the upstream part of the displacement body interior is arranged.
- a chamber is arranged inside. To this chamber passes through the hollow displacement body through a fuel line 1131 through which the chamber, a fuel amount 146 is supplied.
- This fuel can flow into the twisted combustion air stream 144 as centrally injected fuel via outlet openings 113 acting as a central fuel nozzle.
- the position of the remindströmzone 123 can be adapted to the respective operating conditions of the burner.
- embodiments of the fuel injection and the injection of the axial central flow are also possible, in which the fuel along the burner axis 100a is introduced, and the injection device for the central flow is arranged annularly, approximately analogous to the embodiments shown in Figures 4 and 5.
- the burner can be provided with a cylindrical swirl generator with a swirl generator downstream mixing section, without departing from the spirit.
- a swirl generator with a central displacement body also makes it possible to make the swirl generator itself convergent to the mouth, and nevertheless to make the axial Diurchströmquerrough the swirler interior divergent.
- This variant, shown in FIG. 11, permits a course of the transverse velocity component of the swirl flow 144 directed toward the burner axis 100a.
- the central body 105 can advantageously be provided with an injection device 112 for introducing a controllable axial central flow.
- Swirl generators with tangential combustion air inlets can be constructed in different ways.
- monolithic constructions with inlet openings are also possible.
- Such an embodiment is shown in cross-section in FIG.
- the swirl generator is constructed from a hollow cylindrical monolith.
- inlet openings 121 are incorporated in the form of axially and tangentially extending slots through which a combustion air stream 141 flows tangentially into the swirl generator interior 122.
- fuel feeds 111 are in the form of axially extending, in the region of Inlet openings arranged to detect bores, which have outlet bores 1111, via which a fuel quantity 142 can flow into the combustion air flow 141.
- FIG. 13 shows a conical swirl generator 100 made of a monolithic hollow body. Of course, this could also be cylindrical.
- tangential openings such as holes, incorporated, which also serve as tangential inlet openings 121 for a combustion air flow 141.
- a first, easy-to-use operation is shown.
- the burner 1 is operated with a fuel amount 142.
- the mass flow of this fuel is determined at a measuring point 2.
- the resulting mass flow signal X ⁇ is processed in a control unit 3, and converted into a control signal Y for the adjustment mechanism of the axial Monufteindüsung the burner 1.

- the compressor 10 is equipped with an adjustable Vorleit Herbert 11.
- a combustion chamber 20 is arranged in the flow path of a working medium between the compressor 10 and the turbine 30, arranged.
- the combustion chamber 20 is operated with at least one burner 1. From a control unit 3, a control signal Y is guided to the adjustable device for injection of the axial central flow.
- the control unit 3 receives a power signal X P , signals X AMB of sensors, not shown, which ambient conditions - temperature, humidity, pressure and other - determine the ambient air, and a signal X VLE , which reproduces the position of Vorleit Herbert 11.
- a whole series of other, machine-operationally relevant data can be led to the control unit 3;
- the generator power signal could be replaced by fuel mass flow signals. From these quantities, the control unit 3 is able to form a combustion air-specific burner load and to determine the control signal Y therefrom.
- FIG. 16 again shows a gas turbine group with a compressor 10, a turbine 30, and a generator 40 arranged on a common shaft.

- the burner 1 is provided with a temperature measuring point for determining the material temperature, which generates a temperature signal X T.
- the combustion chamber 20 is provided with a pulsation measuring device for determining the combustion pressure fluctuations, which generates a pulsation signal X pulse .
- the signals X T and X pulse are fed to a control unit 3, which generates a control signal Y for controlling the intensity of the axial central flow.
- the centrally injected mass flow is increased, thus the flame is expelled a bit from the burner mouth, which reduces the heat load of the burner. On the other hand, this can lead to an undesirable reduction in flame stability. This is detected by the Pulsationsmessstelle.
- the centrally injected mass flow can be reduced to increase the combustion stability and counteract the increase of the combustion pressure fluctuations. In this way, the central injection can be regulated as a function of measured relevant data.

Description
The invention describes a method for operating a burner according to the preamble of
The axial position of the self-adjusting Rückströmzone is crucial for the stabilization of the flame, and in turn is essentially determined by the axial flow in the center of the burner.
In DE 195 27 453 a burner for a heat generator has become known, which allows a variation of an axial air flow, by means of which the position of the return flow zone was the influence. From this document it is also known to adjust the axial air flow as a function of measured combustion pulsations. However, this operating method requires a potentially fault-prone measurement of the combustion pulsations. Furthermore, this method of operation may cause the flame to be placed too close to the burner so as to overheat the burner.
Hier will die Erfindung Abhilfe schaffen. The invention aims to remedy this situation. The invention, as characterized in the claims, the object underlying the invention to provide a method of the type mentioned, which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art. Furthermore, a burner is to be specified, which is suitable for carrying out the method.
The object is achieved by the method characterized in
The core of the invention is therefore to adapt the axial momentum of the central flow to the thermal burner load. This makes it possible to specifically influence the position and intensity of the backflow zone. In a particularly advantageous manner, the centrally introduced amount of air is reduced at low burner load in such a way that the return flow zone forms very close to the burner or even partially even in the burner interior, resulting in a superior flame stability results. At high load and high flame temperatures, however, the flame itself is inherently more stable. Here, the centrally introduced amount of air is increased, such that the backflow zone reliably a Route downstream of the Brenner estuary comes to rest. Thermal overload of the burner is thereby avoided.
The invention is preferably carried out using premix burners which are well-known and familiar to those skilled in the art as such from the cited prior art. The invention can be readily combined with all of the publications cited therein, and further developed from these writings, known in the art, swirl generator and burner designs, which are reflected by the specified in the device sub-claims preferred variants only incompletely.
A further development of the operating method according to the invention results from the advantageous operation in the combustion chambers of gas turbines. Here, the variable central geometry in conjunction with the familiar to the expert operating concepts for gas turbines with premix burners continues to ensure a low-emission and at the same time stable, pulsation-free operation. A variation of the conditions on individual burners can finally be used selectively in order to prevent acoustic resonances in the combustion chamber by detuning individual burners.
Damit werden die oben als günstig charakterisierten Betriebsmodi erreicht.FIG. 1 shows a premix burner suitable for implementing the method according to the invention, as has become known per se from
In the premix burners to which the invention is preferably applied, fuel is also often supplied centrally, said fuel supply is used both alternatively and in addition to the above-described fuel supply via the
Another exemplary burner is shown in FIG. The
A special embodiment of the central air supply with actuator is shown in Fig. 7. Premix burners are familiar to the person skilled in various designs, which differ from the burners shown in FIGS. Through these inlet openings combustion air flows with a strong tangential velocity component in the swirler interior, where it forms a swirl flow with a certain to Brennermündung directed into the combustion chamber axial component. At least in the area of the air inlet openings, the axial flow cross section of the swirl generator interior is widened toward the burner mouth. This design is favorable in order to achieve a constant swirl number of the swirl flow in the direction of the swirl generator axis increasing combustion air mass flow in the swirl generator interior. Furthermore, these burners have means for introducing fuel into the combustion air flow, which mixes as homogeneously as possible with the twisted combustion air in the swirl generator and in a mixing zone, for example a mixing tube, to be arranged downstream of the swirl generator. At the exit from the burner into the combustion chamber is a cross-sectional jump of the axial flow cross-section. Here, there is a bursting of the swirl flow, and the formation of a central backflow zone, which, as already described in detail above, can be used to stabilize a flame.
It is known, for example, from
Fig. 10 shows in more detail such an embodiment of the burner as described in detail in the basic form in
Of course, the burner can be provided with a cylindrical swirl generator with a swirl generator downstream mixing section, without departing from the spirit.
The use of a swirl generator with a central displacement body also makes it possible to make the swirl generator itself convergent to the mouth, and nevertheless to make the axial Diurchströmquerschnitt the swirler interior divergent. This variant, shown in FIG. 11, permits a course of the transverse velocity component of the
Swirl generators with tangential combustion air inlets can be constructed in different ways. In addition to the structure of several partial bodies shown in cross section in FIGS. 2 and 3, monolithic constructions with inlet openings are also possible. Such an embodiment is shown in cross-section in FIG. The swirl generator is constructed from a hollow cylindrical monolith. In these
In Fig. 14, a first, easy-to-use operation is shown. A second embodiment shown in FIG. 15 relates to the inventive use of a burner described above in gas turbine plants. In the example in FIG. 15, a
It goes without saying that the operating methods specified can also be part of much more complex, superordinate control concepts and can be integrated in them.
It is also conceivable to provide only individual burners of a multi-burner system with the inventive central air supply, or to operate the burners with different central air flows. As a result, symmetry breaking in multi-burner systems can be achieved in a targeted manner, which can be used for reducing or completely avoiding, in particular, azimuthal acoustic oscillations.
The statements made above serve as illustrative examples for the person skilled in the art for the multiplicity of possible embodiments of the modes of premix burners according to the invention and characterized in the claims.
