Abstract

Watch movement enables a rotating cylinder to be seen through the face of the watch. A cylinder makes a twelfth of a rotation in an hour, while a rotating plate rotates once per hour. Watch movement comprises a cylinder that drives a rotating plate via a gear wheel. A bridge is mounted on the plate and its index indicates minutes. A first part of the gear wheel comprises a planet gear that rotates between the drum of the cylinder and a bridge including an hour indicator. The planet gear rotates around a fixed coil and drives a fixed pinion on the rotating plate. A second part of the gear wheel drives an escape and a regulator.

Description

The present invention relates to a watch movement comprising a barrel delivering a driving force, a train driven by the barrel to transmit the driving force to an exhaust cooperating with a regulating member and indexes of hours and minutes, this movement being dressed in a box with an ice cream, a middle part and a bottom.

The movements found in a watch generally meet the generic definition mentioned above. The present invention does not escape this definition. The motor is constituted by a spring wound inside a cylinder. The train transmits the driving force to the escapement, which usually consists of an escape wheel, an anchor and a fork. The escapement maintains the oscillations of the regulator composed of a pendulum with its hairspring: it is a mechanical oscillator which receives from the exhaust the impulses necessary to maintain its march for a certain time, plus a reserve of safety of walk. The movement is completed by a winding and setting system as well as hour and minute indices. He is dressed by a box.

In a conventional watch, however, all the members described are supported by a fixed plate and bridges; the barrel is raised by a rod actuating a crown wheel engaged on a ratchet; the time display has hour and minute hands connected by a timer and surmounting a dial; the time setting is performed by a time setting rod generally coincides with the winding stem.

The movement of the present invention does not include any of the elements or features just enumerated. It is in fact a new and original movement to offer special and attractive effects that give the watch an unprecedented bill. Thus we will not hesitate to classify such a watch in the category of watches complicated by the high complexity of its mechanism.

Document is also known CH 38368 a watch movement whose entire exhaust is carried by a pivoted piece in the center of the movement and animated by a continuous rotational movement.

The present invention relates to a watch movement as defined by claim 1 of the patent.

The features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description, made with reference to the appended drawing and giving to be explanatory, but in no way limiting, several advantageous embodiments of the invention, drawings in which:
  • the figure 1 is a top view of the watch movement according to the invention,
  • the figure 2 is a cut made in the movement of the figure 1 ,
  • the figure 3 is a schematic plan view of the movement along line III - III of the figure 2 , and
  • the figure 4 is a schematic plan view of the movement along line IV - IV of the figure 2 .

The figures 1 and 2 show the first in plan and the second in section the watch movement according to the invention. This movement comprises a barrel 1 which delivers a driving force to the wheel. The barrel 1 is composed of a drum 31 having within it a spiral spring 43 whose outer end is attached to the drum wall and whose inner end 50 is attached to the shaft 12 of the barrel. The drum 31 is closed by a cover 51. A gear train 18, 19 which will be described in detail below, transmits the driving force of the barrel 1 to an escapement 2 which cooperates with a regulating member 3. The movement is completed by indexes d 40 hours and 41 minutes that appear on the figures 1 , 3 and 4 . Finally the movement is dressed by a box comprising an ice cream 6, a middle 7 and a bottom 8.

The invention is remarkable and original in that the barrel drives by a first portion 18 of the gear a turntable 9 on which are mounted a second portion 19 of the train, the exhaust 2 and the regulating member 3. The first 18 and second 19 parts of the gear are arranged in such a way that the cylinder 1 rotates at a rate of one twelfth of an hour and that the turntable 9 rotates at a rate of one revolution per hour.

Thus, through the lens 6, the wearer of the watch can he see a turntable that turns to the minute and a second part 19 of the train, the exhaust 2 and the regulator that rotate with it, this platinum at the same time causing the index of minutes as we will see below. No doubt that this is a remarkable aesthetic effect that reveals not only a minute hand turning on a dial as is the case of classical movements, but also the mechanism that drives this needle and especially the regulating member which rotates with it, this regulator member consisting mainly of a high frequency oscillating balance spring.

Preferred means will now be described in detail to achieve the result described above.

The figure 3 is a schematic plan view of the movement performed along line III-III of the figure 2 . The figure 3 shows that on the barrel 1 freely rotates a wheel 10 whose shaft 11 is eccentric with respect to the shaft 12 of the cylinder 1. The teeth 13 of the wheel 10 are engaged with an internal toothing 14 that has a first fixed ring 15 which is secured to the caseband 7. Thus, by turning in the clockwise direction, marked by the arrow A, the barrel 1 drives the wheel 10 which rolls on the ring 15 in the counterclockwise direction marked by the arrow C The teeth 13 of the wheel 10 are also engaged with the teeth 16 of a pinion 17 which is mounted coaxially with the shaft 12 of the barrel 1. It will be understood that the pinion 17, driven by the wheel 10, turns in the clockwise indicated by the arrow D.

Le balancier 59 oscille librement entre la platine tournante 9 et un coq 46.As shown in figure 4 , which is a schematic plan view of the movement, executed along line IV - IV of the figure 2 , the pinion 17 is secured to the turntable 9 which also rotates in the clockwise direction indicated by the arrow E. On this turntable 9 is mounted the second part 19 of the gear whose first wheel 20 is engaged with the internal toothing 21 is a second ring 22. This second ring 22 is secured to a time-setting bezel 23. As can be seen from FIG. figure 2 , the second part 19 of the train comprises after the first wheel 20 three mobile 55, 56 and 57 meshing one after the other. The last wheel 24 of the mobile 57 is engaged with an escape pinion 25 itself secured to an escape wheel 58. The escapement wheel 2 rotates freely between the turntable 9 and an exhaust bridge 47 Without being represented in the drawing, the escapement wheel 58 can cooperate, in the usual way, with an anchor provided with a fork, the latter transmitting driving pulses to the regulating member 3 whose balance 59 can be seen on the figures 1 and 4 . The rocker 59 oscillates freely between the turntable 9 and a cock 46.

Figure imgb0001
Figure imgb0002
If we go back to figure 3 it will be seen that there is a planetary gear system comprising a satellite 10 rolling inside a fixed ring 15, the satellite 10 being driven by the barrel 1 and then driving in turn the pinion 17. these conditions, if the number of revolutions of the crown 15 is equal to zero and if the number of revolutions of the barrel 1 is equal to one, the number of revolutions N 17 of the pinion 17 will be equal to: NOT 17 = 1 + Z 15 Z 17
Figure imgb0001
Z 15 expressing the number of teeth 14 of the ring 15 and Z 17 expressing the number of teeth 16 of the pinion 17. With Z 15 = 176 teeth and Z 17 = 16 teeth, we will have: NOT 17 = 1 + 176 16 = 12
Figure imgb0002
Thus when the barrel 1 makes a turn, the pinion 17 makes twelve or, in other words, when the barrel 1 rotates at a rate of one twelfth of an hour, the pinion 17 and therefore the turntable 9 which him is linked, rotates at the rate of one turn per hour.

Examining in more detail the cut of the figure 2 it will be seen that the shaft 11 of the wheel 10 mounted on the barrel 1 pivots, on the one hand, in a drum 31 which the barrel 1 presents and on the other hand in a first bridge 32 fixed on this drum. As we can see in figure 1 this first bridge 32 carries an outgrowth 40 which is none other than the index or hour hand 40 since, as we saw in the previous paragraph, this first bridge 32, linked to the barrel 1, rotates at the rate of one twelfth of an hour.

The figure 2 shows again that the second part 19 of the cogwheel is sandwiched between the turntable 9 and a second bridge 33 fixed to this plate 9. As seen above that the plate 9 rotates at a rate of one revolution per hour, the second bridge 33 will do the same. The figure 1 shows this second bridge 33 according to a plan view. The bridge 33 also has a protrusion 41 which is none other than the index or minute hand since, linked to the turntable 9, it rotates at a rate of one revolution per hour.

Examining further the cut shown in figure 2 it can be seen that the movement of the invention comprises a fixed plate 34. This plate 34 is traversed at its center by a sleeve 35 which is intended to center the cylinder 1 on this plate, and this via the first bridge 32. A stone 36 is housed in the sleeve 35. This stone is traversed by a first shaft 37. This shaft carries at its lower end the pinion 17 for driving the turntable 9 and at its upper end the turntable itself . On the second bridge 33 is driven a second shaft 38 disposed coaxially with the first shaft 37. This second shaft 38 pivots freely in a bearing 39 carried by the ice 6 which covers the box.

The figure 2 also shows that the bottom 8 of the box is secured to the shaft 12 of the cylinder 1. This bottom has grooves 26 which allow the winding of the barrel. Thus, as already mentioned above, the reassembly does not use a usual winding rod, but is ensured by the rotation of the bottom. The bottom 8 still has a toothing 27 which cooperates with a retaining pawl 28. figure 2 also shows that the bottom 8 is retained under the box by a ring 60 fixed to the middle part 7.

The figures 1 , 2 and 4 show that the bezel 23 of time setting is a rotating bezel equipped with external splines 29. It will be understood that by acting on this bezel, the rotating plate 9, the bridge 33 and the index 41 which is linked to it are moved. to set the time of the movement, the hour mark 40 being then also set to the time by the displacement of the turntable 9 which in turn drives and in order the pinion 17, the wheel 10, the barrel 1 and finally the first bridge 32 on which is the index 40 hours.

It will also be noted that the fixed plate 34 is perforated as shown in FIG. figure 1 . This fixed plate can bear markings of hours 61 and possibly minutes. It will be observed that the fixed openwork plate 34 shows the drum 31 of the barrel. This situation can be exploited by practicing in the drum 31 a light 42 showing the spring 43 enclosed in the barrel. This arrangement then makes it possible to assess the state of winding of the spring and to know if the cylinder must be reassembled.

Finally, we will observe ( figure 1 ) that the movement according to the invention has some analogies with a baguette movement known to watchmakers where all the mobiles are placed in a row, from the barrel to the pendulum. Here, however, the rod has only the second part of the train that rotates at the rate of minutes instead of remaining stationary.
