Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a granulate, a process for its manufacture and its use.
Very fine-particle solids promise due to their large specific surface area and its small Primary particle size a number of advantageous Properties, such as high Adsorption capacity, high chemical Willingness to react, great sintering activity and, in Ceramic powder trap, very fine Microstructures that increase the strength in the component can effect. In addition, fine particles Solids often as functional fillers in the Varnishes, coatings etc. used.
From a handling point of view, however, it is disadvantageous that with decreasing particle size the Difficulties in handling increase considerably. The Solids are mostly in an agglomerated state and have poor flowability as a powder, or are, if they are in suspension, with known methods not in a redispersible to transfer dry powder.
The fine-particle solids prepare as dry powder significant problems with transportation, conveyor and Storage processes as well as dry and moist Deformation by pressing, wet granulation or extrusion. This is especially true for very fine, sinter-active powders Avoiding pack inhomogeneities during deformation very difficult, so the likelihood of Defect formation increases with increasing powder fineness grows (Oberacker, R .; Agniel, Y .; Thümmler, F .: Powder Metallurgy in Science and Practice, Vol. 7, p. 185, VDI-Verlag Düsseldorf, 1991).
To handle and process disperse solids , they have to be converted into granules.
A.: Keramische Zeitschrift, 38 (1986) 4, S. 184-186).The term granulation is used to describe production a secondary grain with the desired properties from the because of their delicacy for further processing unsuitable primary grain size understood (Gottschalk, A .: Keramische Zeitschrift, 38 (1986) 4, pp. 184-186).
Granulate stellen im Formgebungsprozeß Zwischenprodukte dar, die die physikalischen und mechanischen Eigenschaften eines Feststoffes maßgeblich beeinflussen (Ingenerf, G.: Keramische Zeitschrift, 48 (1996) 4, S. 315-317).Granules are intermediate products in the molding process represents the physical and mechanical properties of a solid significantly influence (Ingenerf, G .: Keramische Zeitschrift, 48 (1996) 4, pp. 315-317).
- good flow,
- high bulk density,
- reproducible moisture content,
- as uniform, constant and not too coarse grain,
- Dust-free,
- elastic deformability of the individual granules at their points of contact during transport and storage as well
- complete destructibility in the mold.
The basic requirement for good flowability is almost spherical shape of the granulate particles.
Probably the most widely used granulation process for Production of pressed granules in the ceramic industry is spray drying. By spraying ceramic Slip and simultaneous evaporation drying of the In the liquid phase, granules are formed in spherical form both good flowability and sufficient have high bulk density. This is often a disadvantage encountered hollow ball shape as well as the high hardness of the Granules. Because of these properties require Spray granules in the formation of high compression pressures to a complete destruction of the hollow spheres and a filling to ensure the cavities with fragments. Not completely destroyed granules leave behind in the green body pronounced grain boundaries, especially the sintering process influence negatively (Mazanek, J .; Gizycki, U. v .; Khwaja, Z .: cfi / Ber. DKG, 70 (1993) 6, pp. 272-274; Shaw, F. V .: Am. Ceram. Soc. Bull. 79 (1990) 9, pp. 1484-89). Continues to occur if the granules are too dry as a result of the brittle-elastic Behavior of the grains a large elastic stretch after press molding.
The disadvantages of the formation of hollow spheres are explained by construction granulation avoided. This is called either fluidized bed granulation (Schöps, W .; Beer, H .: DKG annual conference 1993, short papers, Weimar, 6-8. October 1993, Pp. 276-278) or by mechanical unrolling Granule germs carried out in a powder bed. in the the latter case, granules with clear Textures that form a bowl-shaped under pressure Flaking of the built up layers result. in the The result of the fluidized bed granulation is compact built, rounded, unevenly shaped granules (Ingenerf, G .: Keramische Zeitschrift, 48 (1996) 4, pp. 315-317). Despite the non-spherical shape, the good ones Free-flowing and compressibility highlighted (Voigt, M .; Herrmann, J .; Böber, R .; Wand, B .; Witschel, H .; Seege, A .: Keramische Zeitschrift, 43 (1991) 2, pp. 87-89).
The relatively high compressive strength of the Fluid bed granules affect the molding process and lead to a high residual porosity in the green body.
The binding mechanisms that control the mechanical strength of the Granules produced by the known methods cause, on the one hand, capillary forces, which are due to the Evaporation of the suspension liquid take effect and that pull the solid particles into very tight bonds can.
On the other hand there are bonds through solid bridges crystallizing additives or highly viscous Binder and organic macromolecules possible. Especially with non-thermal, mechanical Granulation processes, such as compacting, are also form-fitting bonds by interlocking particles ascertain.
For areas of application in which redispersion of the Granules are required are those listed above Binding mechanisms usually too strong. Especially at extremely fine-particle solids, their primary particle size is in the nanometer range, it is observed that the above-mentioned methods of shaping for the formation of Solid bridges come because of the particles because of their high specific surface area a solubility in the May have suspension matrix. A redispersion, which a particle size distribution that the Output solids corresponds to effect is only therefore mostly not or only by extremely high Energy input achievable.
To make a completely redispersible granulate arrive weaker binding forces between the Primary particles take effect. That's what the Sublimation or freeze drying, a process in which a frozen material in vacuum by sublimation of the Solvent is dried. Because when using the Freeze drying the liquid phase in the solid state is present, none come during sublimation Capillary Forces to Work. The particles are not approaching and there are therefore no hard agglomerates (Hausner, H .: Progress Reports DKG, 8 (1993), pp. 107-121).
In granules that are freeze-dried Suspension medium was withdrawn, only van der Waals forces or electrostatic forces are effective, provided no auxiliaries are added to the suspensions lead to the formation of material bridges.
Berlin).Van der Waals forces result from the electrical dipole moments of atoms and molecules. They have a very short range. The electrostatic forces are caused by particles with charges of different signs. Different charges can already be present as an excess charge or can arise when solid bodies come into contact with electron transfer (contact potential). In the case of electrical non-conductors, the charges absorbed are localized in surface layers of up to 1 µm. The van der Waals force as a binding mechanism is decisively influenced by the primary particle size and only becomes larger than the competing weight force with particles <100 µm with an assumed consistency of 3 g / cm 3. That means: with larger particles it can no granulation can be imparted via this adhesive mechanism (Bartusch, R .: Das Keramiker-Jahrbuch 1998, p. 24, Bauverlag, Wiesbaden and Berlin).
The object of the invention is to develop a granulate, which is almost spherical and therefore very free-flowing, the individual granules have a homogeneous structure, and all using the dispersion of the starting solid Dispersion conditions can be redispersed.
The invention relates to granules of disperse, finely divided solids with primary particle sizes of smaller than 10 µm, which is characterized in that the individual granules almost spherical particles more homogeneous Represent density distribution, which is among those for the Dispersion conditions applied to starting solids completely redisperse.
This granulate is characterized by an excellent Free flowing, a very low Single granule strength as well as a complete Redispersibility among those for the starting solids applied dispersion conditions.
To ensure complete The redispersibility of the granules plays the part Freezing speed of the suspension one crucial role. Just the combination of the Freeze drying with a spray freeze prevents the Formation of firmer particle contacts, one Stand in the way of redispersion. A slower one Freezing technique of the undivided suspension, for example by pouring liquid nitrogen over the suspension (Reetz, T. Moritz, T. Disclosure DE 41 18 752 A1 (1992)) does not lead to the desired complete Redispersibility.
Can be used as starting solids for granule production both ceramic and metallic as well as polymers Materials as well as carbon blacks are used.
Diese Stoffe werden beschrieben in Ullmann's Enzyklopädie der technischen Chemie, 4 Auflage, Band 21, Seite 464 (1982).In a preferred embodiment of the invention, pyrogenic oxides and / or mixed oxides of metals and / or metalloids can be used as starting materials. These are in particular pyrogenically produced TiO 2 , SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 and their mixed oxides. According to the invention, the disperse can be finely divided Solids in the initial state as dry or moist Powder is available.
Another object of the invention is a method for Production of the granulate, which is characterized is that the finely divided solids flow into Suspensions transferred, these suspensions with a suitable atomization technique divided, as disperses Freezes collectively and then by means of Sublimation drying to the exclusion of the effect of Capillary forces are drying.
By dividing flowable suspensions over Spray nozzles or rotating disks Droplet size distributions that generated the Affect granule size distribution directly. After this Freeze the atomized suspension with droplet sizes between 50 and 500 µm in a coolant or cold gas flow is already the granule shape and size given. During the subsequent freeze drying no further compacting of the material. Likewise, remains the granule shape unchanged. After drying those prevailing within the individual granules Adhesion forces the cohesion of the primary particles.
Due to the surface tension of the suspension medium the spray drops take on a spherical shape, those in the granulate preserved. The density of the individual granules is determined by Solids content of the suspension specified. The granules have a homogeneous particle packing.
A redispersion of granules in which these weak adhesive forces do not require any greater energy expenditure than he for the Dispersion of the starting solids is necessary. Provided Agglomerates in the starting powder due to production are present, which have stronger binding forces, is the Energy amount for the redispersion of these primary Agglomerates even less.
Various can be used to prepare the suspensions organic and / or inorganic solvents, especially water.
Cryogenic, liquefied gases and / or can be used as cooling media cryogenic liquids are used.
Zschimmer & Schwarz, Lahnstein).A suspension with a solids content of 30% by weight is prepared from a highly disperse TiO 2 powder (P 25, from Degussa-Huels) by stirring into water. The suspension is stabilized using the Dolapix CA dispersion aid (from Zschimmer & Schwarz, Lahnstein).
Die Schüttdichte des Granulates beträgt ca. 300 g/l.The suspension is then by means of a Two-component nozzle (Ø = 1 mm) in liquid nitrogen sprayed and frozen suddenly. After a subsequent freeze-drying becomes a very good one free-flowing granules obtained. The Granule size distribution of the granules obtained is Figure 1 can be seen. The bulk density of the granules is approx. 300 g / l.
The granules are very soft, but become during the Storage and handling not destroyed.
For the investigation of the redispersibility, 200 mg of the starting powder and the granules in 100 ml each Water stirred for 15 min with a magnetic stirrer and additionally 12 min in an ultrasonic bath and 30 s with a Ultrasound fingers treated. The particle size distributions are then transmitted using dynamic light scattering (UPA, From Leeds & Northrup). Are surprisingly both particle size distributions (Figure 2) comparable. It is no evidence of undestroyed agglomerates, both of which a complete dispersion of the starting powder as also complete redispersion of the granules displays.
Eine Behandlung beider Materialien durch Rühren ohne zusätzliche Ultraschalleinwirkung zeigt in beiden Fällen noch unvollständig zerstörte Pulveragglomerate an.Treatment of both materials by stirring without additional ultrasound exposure shows in both cases still incompletely destroyed powder agglomerates.
