Abstract
The invention is related to a transparent plastic door safety strip at the hinge side of doors or windows to protect fingers and toes from getting jammed, by which the main protecting strip (6) is rigid to bending and is provided with flexible S-formed connecting parts (5) to the flanges (1) at both sides, by which the attachment of the flanges (1) to the door (4) and doorpost (3) is obtained by adhesives or screws or special nails, by which the door safety strip can be fabricated by an extrusion or a co-extrusion method.
Description
Door Safety Strip
Background of the invention.
The invention relates to a provision that behaves like a flexible strip in order to protect fingers and toes from getting jammed on the linge side of doors. This perilous condition exists during closing when children, especially the little ones, put their fingers into the narrow gap between door and door-post, not seldom resulting in serious injury and at least much pain. The advantages of the invention when it is compared with existing safety provisions serving the same purpose and already known, are the uniform and smooth load properties. The main protecting strip is a bended shell, relatively rigid, with flexible s-shaped skirts straddle longitudinal centerline. These thin walled skirts are along the other side moulded to flanges which are provided with two sided adhesive tape for attachment to door and door post respectively. One of the existing finger protecting means can be described as a folding cover, forcing objects in its vicinity backwards. This construction however revealed several disadvantages, such as to much striking and to much complicated. Furthermore the stock must be very bulky to match the wide variety of colours and constructions usual for doors and door-posts. Another known design intended to meet the above mentioned safety conditions can be described as a hemispherical solid strip provided with rigid flanges. This construction however is less stress releasing. Summary of the invention.
The door safety strip according to the invention has two rigid flanges provided with two sided adhesive tape for attachment to door and door-post respectively; flanges straddle longitudinal centerline and connected to the main bended finger protection shell by means of flexible s-shaped thin walled skirts while the above mentioned parts are extruded as a whole, whether or not fabricated
according a known extrusion methode. The transparent material and the construction is such as to meet the lowest possible bending stress in order to avoid disconnecting of the tape. Under certain conditions the consumery shall prefer nails for attachment. This can be done easely due to a longitudinal groove along both flanges. Brief description of the Drawings.
One embodiment of the invention will be explained by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a view of the door safety strip in cross section with the door in closed position and
Fig. 2 is ditto with the door in opened position.
Detailed description of the preferred embodiment.
With reference to the figures, the preferred embodiment of the door safety strip includes a transparent strip 7 made of synthetic or synthetic-like material, provided with two flanges 1 , by means of two sided adhesive tape 2 firmly atttached to door-part 3 and door 4 respectively. In order to achieve the desirable flexibility, not affected by the rigid flanges 1, the strip 7 includes also two s-shaped, thin walled skirts 5 straddle longitudinal centerline of the main protecting part 6, being a bended shell. The rigity of this shell 6 is such as to withstand the normal applied manual load. Under normal conditions fingers of children cannot come to the dangerus narrow gap when closing the door. For the sake of clearness: fingers and toes of adults are protected also by way of the above described invention.
Claims
1. Door safety strip at the hinge side in order to prevent fingers and toes from clamping between door and doorpost or window and windowpost, characterized in that, the main protecting strip (6) is rigid or stiff to bending or pressing and besides has a certain thickness due to a prismatic arched- or curved form and is provided at both sides with relative thin plated or flexible S-formed connecting parts (5) over its total length, which proceed in relative thick or rigid flanges (1), which are fixed to the door (4) and the doorpost (5) with an adhesive tape or other means, by which mentioned strip with S-formed parts (5) and flanges (1) are manufactured from plastic, by which at least the door safety strip is placed at the hinge side from the bottom of the door (4) and doorpost (3) upwards over at least 1,20 metres.
2. Door safety strip as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that, the attachment of the mentioned flanges (1) to the door (4) and doorpost (3) is realised by screws or nails, facilitated by means of longitudinal grooves in the surfaces of the flanges (1) .
3. Door safety strip as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that, the mentioned plastic is a transparant PVC, and that the door safety strip is fabricated by means of extrusion or injection moulding or by forcing plate material, by which the thicknesses of the rigid strip (6) and the flanges (1) are approximately 1,2 mm and the thickness of the S-formed connecting parts (5) are approximately 0,8 mm, by which the bending rigidity of the strip (6) and the flanges (1) can also have a much higher value than that of the S-formed connecting parts (5) .
