Abstract

A device for transferring a material in the form of a film that is applied to a carrier strip onto a substrate such as a sheet of writing paper or drawing paper. The inventive device comprises a housing that accommodates a supply reel for the film-coated carrier strip and an empty reel that receives the carrier strip when the coating is removed. The film-coated carrier strip is guided via an application foot that is provided with at least one clip-type sliding element which is made of a friction-reducing material in the area around which the carrier strip is twisted and secured to said foot. The aim of the invention is to prove an improved device enabling the film to be transferred onto the substrate as easily as possible. This is achieved by providing the sliding element (15) with an elliptical cross-sectional shape so that when the film is transferred onto the substrate, the sliding element (15) presses against the substrate in a flat area (15) located thereon and the carrier strip is arranged in between.

Description

"Gerat zum Übertragen eines m Form eines Filmes auf ein"Device for transferring a shape of a film onto a
Tragerband aufgebrachten Stoffes auf ein Substrat"Carrier tape of applied material on a substrate "
The invention relates to a device for transferring a substance applied in the form of a film onto a carrier tape to a substrate, such as a writing or drawing sheet, with a housing in which a supply spool for the film-coated carrier tape and an empty spool for receiving the stripped carrier tape are arranged , wherein the film-coated carrier tape is guided over an application foot, which is provided at least in the area wrapped by the carrier tape with a clip-like sliding element made of a friction-reducing material, which is attached to the application foot.
In order to strive for smoothness and good transferability of the film to the substrate, various designs for the configurations of the application foot are known. For example, the application foot can be equipped with an application roller, which preferably has a rubber-elastic tread. However, since the outer diameter of a functionally appropriate application roller cannot be kept as small as desired, because it conforms well to the substrate, it has a minimum thickness for the elastic race requires and the rotational mobility requires a sufficient difference between the stub axle and the outer diameter, such an application role has disadvantages. Therefore, in most solutions, the application foot usually has an application bar, which has advantages over an application roller, since a sharper angling of the carrier tape is possible in the transfer phase, as a result of which the tear-off after the transfer has taken place has less tendency to form a flutter edge. On the other hand, it is disadvantageous compared to a solution with an application roller that the carrier strip is guided over the carrier strip with frictional engagement, which, depending on the carrier strip quality, can lead to undesired stiffness.
Basically, plastics are known which have good sliding behavior, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which, however, is many times more expensive than the standard materials normally used for the components of a generic device. For reasons of cost, the use of an application foot made of polytetrafluoroethylene is therefore ruled out.
Since polytetrafluoroethylene is not a real thermoplastic, it must also be ruled out to apply this high-quality material to the sliding active area of the application foot in a multi-component or back-injection process. A Conceivable solution, such as masking the application bar with a self-adhesive fluoroplastic-coated film, has already been investigated, but is unsuitable for a mass-produced article from a manufacturing point of view.
A generic device is known from US-A-5, 30, 904. In this device, the application foot is provided in the area wrapped by the carrier tape with a sliding element made of a friction-reducing rubber-like material which is attached to the application foot. This sliding element is said to improve the transfer of the film to the substrate. It has a rotationally symmetrical curve profile in the active pressure segment of the application bar and therefore has a small linear contact area with the substrate. It has been found that when the adhesive layer is transferred to a substrate, the adhesive layer tears easily, so that the carrier tape on its silicone layer slides over the substrate and the drive is interrupted.
The object of the invention is therefore to improve a generic device in such a way that a flawless transfer of the film to the substrate is ensured with the least possible effort.
Diese Aufgabe wird bei einem Gerät der eingangs bezeichneten Art erfindungsgemäß dadurch gelöst, daß das Gleitelement eine elliptische Querschnittsform aufweist, derart, daß beimThis object is achieved according to the invention in a device of the type described in the introduction in that the sliding element has an elliptical cross-sectional shape, such that when
Transfer of the film to the substrate, the pressing area of the sliding element lies flat against the substrate with the interposition of the carrier tape.
In a surprisingly simple manner, it is possible according to the invention to create a substantially larger contact area between the sliding element on the one hand and the substrate on the other hand by simply changing the cross-sectional shape of the sliding element, in order to provide a sufficient contact surface which ensures that the adhesive layer does not tear off, so that the device functions properly. The sliding element itself can nevertheless be extremely small in this embodiment, for example it can be produced as a semifinished product of very small dimensions (for example with an outer diameter of 1 to 1.2 mm and 0.2 to 0.3 mm wall thickness) by being on the desired one Cut long, slit lengthways and then spread and pushed onto the application foot. This can also be done automatically in a simple manner.
It is particularly advantageously provided that the sliding element consists of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), since this material has particularly good sliding behavior. Of course, materials with comparable properties can also be used. be set.
Furthermore, it is advantageously provided that the end section of the application foot receiving the sliding element likewise has an at least partially elliptical cross-sectional shape. The sliding element can then be produced in a particularly simple manner since the inner contour thereof can largely correspond to the outer contour. It is then also held securely on the application foot.
Diese zeigen in:The invention is explained below with reference to the drawings, for example. These show in:

Im Hinblick auf die Leichtgangigkeit des Gerätes und eine einwandfreie Übertragung des Filmes auf das Substrat hat sich herausgestellt, daß ein solcher Auftragsfuß 1 nicht zufriedenstellend ist.FIG. 1 shows a conventional device for transferring a substance applied in the form of a film onto a carrier tape to a substrate according to the prior art without a sliding element, but only with the parts that are important for the invention, namely an application foot, generally designated 1. This application foot 1 is equipped with an application bar 2, around which a coated carrier tape 3, which comes from a supply spool (not shown) of the device, is guided around the order bar 2. After the transfer of the layer 4 to a substrate, it is passed on as a blank tape 5 to a winding spool (not shown). With regard to the smooth running of the device and a flawless transfer of the film to the substrate, it has been found that such an application foot 1 is not satisfactory.
According to the invention, another embodiment of the application foot is therefore provided, as shown in FIGS. 2 ff. An application foot according to the invention of a device according to the invention is generally designated 6 in the figures. This application foot 6 has tape guide ears 7, between which the carrier tape is guided. The application foot 6 is provided with a cantilever arm 9 which is pivotably articulated on the application foot 6 via a film hinge 8. This cantilever arm 9 is designed at the end as a receiving profile (end section 10) for a clip-like sliding element 15. Grooves 13 are recessed on the application foot 6, which serve to achieve a latching engagement of the extension arm 9 on the application foot 6 in the pivoted-in position of the extension arm 9, for which purpose locking cams 12 are provided on the extension arm 9 on both sides.
As is apparent from FIG. 3, the cantilever arm 9 preferably has ribs 11 which are directed in a slow direction. These ribs 11 are used in conjunction with the selection of an elastic material, for example polyolefin, for particularly good contact securing between the application bar (end section 10) and possible unevenness in the substrate plane. Since the clip-like sliding element 15 made of polytetrafluoroethylene is also elastic, this is achieved by applying pressure to the entire transfer width of the ribbon even with an uneven substrate and reliably preventing bubbles from forming, similar to an elastic roller, so that a smooth coating takes place on the substrate. Essential to the invention, as can be seen particularly well from FIGS. 2a and 4, the sliding element 15 has an elliptical cross-sectional shape, such that when the film is transferred to the substrate, the pressing region 15a of the sliding element 15 lies flat against the substrate with the carrier tape being arranged in between. Furthermore, it is provided that the end section 10 of the application foot 6 or the extension arm 9 receiving the sliding element 15 also has an at least partially elliptical cross-sectional shape, this area is indicated in FIG. 2 by the reference number 10a.
Figures 4 and 5 show the cantilever arm 9 in the pivoted and locked position. The film hinge 8 is pivoted about 90 °. The clip-like sliding element 15 placed on the end section 10 of the extension arm 9 is additionally fastened in that stop stages 16 and 17 are provided on the application foot 6 and on the extension arm 9, respectively, whereby the sliding element 15 is secured against rotation. By placing the cantilever arm 9 on a crossmember 18 of the application foot 6, it is achieved that the free end section 10 of the cantilever 9 can spring out in its entirety.
From Figure 5, the application foot 6 is a front view with latching cams 12 clipped into the grooves 13 and accordingly attached sliding element 15 to recognize. By stops 19 on the application foot 6 it is achieved that in the event of a possible excessive contact pressure with improper handling of the device, the application bar formed by the sliding element 15 receives a final end stop which is dimensioned such that the sliding element 15 is still a few tenths of a millimeter above the contour of the tape guide ears 7 protrudes so that the transfer function always remains secure. Furthermore, it can be seen that the ends 20 of the clip-like sliding element 15 are advantageously recessed in recesses 21 of the band guide ears 7, which ensures that the carrier band is squeezed from the ends possibly squeezed by the lengthening of the hose from which the sliding element 15 is preferably made 20 is kept away.
In Figure 6 the entire application foot 6 is in the functional position, i.e. with pivoted and locked cantilever arm 9, shown again, in the end position of the clip-like sliding element 15 with protection against rotation and longitudinal displacement.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown. Further configurations are possible without leaving the basic idea. Of course, the sliding element 15 does not have to have an exact elliptical cross-sectional shape, it is essential that it has one flat pressing area 15a forms.
