Definitions
- the invention relates to a method of manufacturing highly deformed parts, intended for mechanical engineering and in particular for aeronautical construction, using AlCuMg type 2024 aluminum alloy sheets according to the nomenclature of the Aluminum Association.
- Alloy 2024 is widely used in aircraft construction and its composition registered in the Aluminum Association is as follows (% by weight): If ⁇ 0.5 Fe ⁇ 0.5 Cu: 3.8 - 4.9 Mn: 0.3 - 0.9 Mg: 1.2 - 1.8 Zn ⁇ 0.25 Cr ⁇ 0.10 Ti ⁇ 0 15 Certain parts, made in particular by stretch-forming (the term “stretch-forming" is often used), stamping, spinning, bending or rolling, require, in addition to the properties usually required for aircraft construction, such as high strength. mechanics, toughness, resistance to the propagation of cracks etc, sheets having a good formability.
- EP 0473122 discloses a method for manufacturing alloy steel sheets.
- Patent Application EP 0731185 discloses sheets of modified alloy 2024, later registered with the Aluminum Association under the designation 2024A, having a reduced level of residual stresses and improved toughness for heavy plates, and improved elongation for thin sheets. This application limits the content of Mn to 0.55% and that in Fe to 0.25%, with the relation: 0 ⁇ Mn - 2 Fe ⁇ 0.2 (the contents Mn and Fe being expressed in%).
- the patent application WO 96/29440 describes a method of manufacturing a product in type 2024 aluminum alloy, having a hot rolling, an annealing, a cold rolling, dissolving, quenching and cold forming minimum, which may be traction, straightening or leveling, a process intended improve formability.
- the request recommends a preferential composition of the alloy: Cu: 4.0 - 4.4, Mg: 1.25 - 1.5, Mn: 0.35 - 0.5, Si ⁇ 0.12, Fe ⁇ 0.08, Ti ⁇ 0.06.
- Intermediate annealing between hot rolling and cold rolling is presented as favorable for strength and toughness.
- This step the additional and unusual process has disadvantages economic. Nor does it solve the problem posed by the market, namely provide plates with characteristics such that their shaping is simplified.
- the sheets are in a state characterized by good formability, but this state is unstable (state "W"), and the shaping must occur on fresh quenching, c that is to say within a short time after quenching, of the order of a few tens of minutes to a few hours. If this is not possible for reasons of production management, the sheet must be stored in a cold room at a sufficiently low temperature and for a sufficiently short duration so as to avoid natural ripening.
- this solution heat treatment requires large furnaces, which makes the operation inconvenient, including with respect to the same operation performed on flat sheet.
- the possible need for a cold room adds to the costs and disadvantages of the state of the art. For highly deformed parts, this operation must possibly be repeated, if the material does not have, in the metallurgical state in which it is, sufficient formability to achieve the desired shape in a single operation.
- the only possible formatting is a rolling.
- the rolled sheet is then dissolved and quenched, and a second shaping is done either on fresh quenching or after storage in a cold room. In all other cases, the sheet is directly dissolved and quenched before shaping.
- a first shaping operation is carried out from this state, and a second shaping after dissolution and quenching.
- This variant is used when the shaping referred to is too important to be carried out in a single operation from a state W, but can however be performed in two passes from the state O. In this state, the The sheet is certainly less formable, but the state O is easier to use than the state W, which is unstable, and requires additional heat treatment.
- the manufacture of the sheet in state O involves a final annealing of the raw sheet rolling, and therefore an additional manufacturing step, which is contrary to the purpose of simplification targeted by the present invention.
- a sheet in the W state which generally has the best formability
- the object of the invention is therefore to simplify the process for manufacturing formed parts, and in particular parts that are highly deformed by one or more processes such as stretch-forming, stamping, spinning or bending, by the combination of an optimized chemical composition and particular manufacturing processes, to avoid as much as possible the setting in solution on formed sheet metal. It goes without saying that any new manufacturing process of highly deformed parts must lead to parts having mechanical characteristics and use at least as good as existing products. Another object of the invention is to obtain parts whose properties of damage tolerance do not degrade after deformation.
- the alloy has a copper content of between 3.9 and 4.3% (and even more preferably between 3.9 and 4.2%), a magnesium content of between 1.2 and 1.4% (and still preferably between 1.25 and 1.35%), a manganese content between 0.3 and 0.45% iron content ⁇ 0.10%, silicon content ⁇ 0.10% (and preferably ⁇ 0.08%), titanium, chromium and zirconium content ⁇ 0.07% (preferably ⁇ 0.05%).
- the method according to the invention makes it possible to optionally use plated sheets, for example examples of sheets covered with an alloy plating more resistant to corrosion, as is usually the case for aircraft fuselage liner plates.
- a first feature of the invention is to use a modified alloy compared to the traditional 2024.
- the first modification consists in reducing the Si and Fe contents respectively below 0.25 and 0.20%, and preferably below 0.10%.
- the Mn content is also reduced below 0.5% and preferably below 0.45%.
- the Cu content is also slightly reduced and maintained below 4.5%, and preferably below 4.3%, or even 4.2%.
- the Mg content is also slightly reduced, and kept below 1.5%, preferably between 1.2 and 1.4%, or even between 1.25 and 1.35%. The applicant has observed that this composition, suggested by the prior art, does not by itself to achieve the required formability.
- the alloy is cast into plates, which are homogenized at a temperature between 460 and 510 ° C (preferably between 470 and 500 ° C) for 2 to 12 hours (preferably 3 to 6 hours).
- the plates may be scalped.
- the hot rolling is carried out with an inlet temperature of between 430 and 470 ° C, and preferably between 440 and 460 ° C.
- the outlet temperature of the strips is at a temperature higher than the usual temperature,> 300 ° C., and preferably> 310 ° C.
- the strips are wound. They present at this stage an elongation of more than 13.5%, and most often greater than 15% in the L and TL directions.
- the strips are then cut into sheets.
- a first variant of the invention consists in shaping, by stretch-forming, stamping, spinning or bending, directly on this state F without annealing or other prior treatment.
- the partially shaped sheet is then dissolved at a temperature between 480 and 500 ° C for a period of between 5 minutes and 1 hour, then quenched, usually with cold water.
- the formatting is done in two or more passes.
- the freshly hardened part (less than one hour) can undergo a new shaping immediately, or it is transferred to a cold room at a temperature below 10 ° C and preferably below 0 ° C, and shaped to the exit of the cold room.
- One or two sided plates can be used, which is the most common case for aircraft fuselage panels plated with a 1000 series alloy, for example 1050, 1100, 1200, 1135 alloys. , 1145, 1170, 1175, 1180, 1185, 1188, 1199, 1230, 1235, 1250, 1285, 1350 or 1435.
- the distributed elongation is the difference in elongation between the beginning and the end of the plastic deformation domain, that is to say the deformation domain permanent before necking, of the deformation curve.
- a cold rolled strip has an LDH value greater than 42 mm and preferably higher at 44 mm, while a hot-rolled strip has an LDH value greater than 73 and preferably greater than 75 mm.
- the preferred composition gives a better formability than the traditional composition.
- the mechanical properties of the intermediate product do not matter in this situation, provided that the finished product at the end of the whole process has at least one mechanical characteristics. as high as the product resulting from the process according to the prior art.
- the two products In the state T42, as defined by the draft standard prEN 4211 of July 1995, for a thickness of 6 mm and with an identical manufacturing range, the two products have equivalent mechanical properties.
- Examples 3s, 3t, 3u, 3v, 3w correspond to the prior art.
- Examples 3a, 3c, 3d correspond to Examples 2h, 2L and 2m of Example 2; they are shown here for comparison to represent a 2024 W state according to the prior art.
- T3-optimized composition plates are compared to the plates used in the processes according to the prior art, that is to say a 2024 alloy in the T3 state (Examples 3s, 3t, 3u, 3v, 3w) or W (Examples 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d)), it can be seen that for a given thickness, the process leads to a better formability, as evidenced by the elongation at break and especially the LDH values. and CLF.
- the springback is lower than in the prior art. More particularly, when the chemical composition is in the preferred range, the process leads to an improvement of the formability as it is characterized by the parameters which have just been enumerated.
- the process does not lead, after forming by stretching, to a significant decrease in the properties of damage tolerance, unlike the method according to the prior art. It is even noted that the method improves the damage tolerance on a stretched state, ie the state in which the piece is in the finished state.

Description
The invention relates to a method of manufacturing highly deformed parts, intended for mechanical engineering and in particular for aeronautical construction, using AlCuMg type 2024 aluminum alloy sheets according to the nomenclature of the Aluminum Association.
Alloy 2024 is widely used in aircraft construction and its composition registered in the Aluminum Association is as follows (% by weight):
If <0.5 Fe <0.5 Cu: 3.8 - 4.9 Mn: 0.3 - 0.9 Mg: 1.2 - 1.8 Zn <0.25 Cr <0.10 Ti <0 15
Certain parts, made in particular by stretch-forming (the term "stretch-forming" is often used), stamping, spinning, bending or rolling, require, in addition to the properties usually required for aircraft construction, such as high strength. mechanics, toughness, resistance to the propagation of cracks etc, sheets having a good formability.
If <0.05, with intermediate annealing at a temperature> 488 ° C. It teaches that these sheets have toughness and resistance to improved crack propagation compared to conventional 2024.
Cette demande limite la teneur en Mn à 0,55% et celle en Fe à 0,25%, avec la relation: 0 < Mn - 2 Fe < 0,2 (les teneurs Mn et Fe étant exprimées en %).Patent Application EP 0731185 discloses sheets of modified alloy 2024, later registered with the Aluminum Association under the designation 2024A, having a reduced level of residual stresses and improved toughness for heavy plates, and improved elongation for thin sheets. This application limits the content of Mn to 0.55% and that in Fe to 0.25%, with the relation: 0 <Mn - 2 Fe <0.2 (the contents Mn and Fe being expressed in%).
The patent application WO 96/29440 describes a method of manufacturing a product in type 2024 aluminum alloy, having a hot rolling, an annealing, a cold rolling, dissolving, quenching and cold forming minimum, which may be traction, straightening or leveling, a process intended improve formability. Having found that the use of a pure base (very low iron and silicon content) and a manganese content of less than 0.5% improves the formability, the request recommends a preferential composition of the alloy: Cu: 4.0 - 4.4, Mg: 1.25 - 1.5, Mn: 0.35 - 0.5, Si <0.12, Fe <0.08, Ti <0.06. Intermediate annealing between hot rolling and cold rolling is presented as favorable for strength and toughness. This step However, the additional and unusual process has disadvantages economic. Nor does it solve the problem posed by the market, namely provide plates with characteristics such that their shaping is simplified.
To reduce the cost of manufacture, aircraft manufacturers seek to minimize the number of sheet forming steps, and to use sheets that can be manufactured inexpensively using short transformation ranges, that is to say, say including as few individual steps as possible. For fuselage panels, the current practice of aeronautical manufacturers is to supply hot or cold rolled sheets to the required thickness in the raw state of manufacture (condition "F" according to EN 515) or annealed state (state "O") or in the matured quenched state (state "T3" or "T4"), subject them to a solution heat treatment followed by quenching, and then to formulate them and subjecting them to natural or artificial aging, so as to obtain the required mechanical characteristics.
Generally, after dissolution and quenching, the sheets are in a state characterized by good formability, but this state is unstable (state "W"), and the shaping must occur on fresh quenching, c that is to say within a short time after quenching, of the order of a few tens of minutes to a few hours. If this is not possible for reasons of production management, the sheet must be stored in a cold room at a sufficiently low temperature and for a sufficiently short duration so as to avoid natural ripening. For large and strongly formed parts, this solution heat treatment requires large furnaces, which makes the operation inconvenient, including with respect to the same operation performed on flat sheet. The possible need for a cold room adds to the costs and disadvantages of the state of the art. For highly deformed parts, this operation must possibly be repeated, if the material does not have, in the metallurgical state in which it is, sufficient formability to achieve the desired shape in a single operation.
Starting from the state F, the only possible formatting is a rolling. The rolled sheet is then dissolved and quenched, and a second shaping is done either on fresh quenching or after storage in a cold room. In all other cases, the sheet is directly dissolved and quenched before shaping. When starting from a sheet in state O, a first shaping operation is carried out from this state, and a second shaping after dissolution and quenching. This variant is used when the shaping referred to is too important to be carried out in a single operation from a state W, but can however be performed in two passes from the state O. In this state, the The sheet is certainly less formable, but the state O is easier to use than the state W, which is unstable, and requires additional heat treatment. However, the manufacture of the sheet in state O involves a final annealing of the raw sheet rolling, and therefore an additional manufacturing step, which is contrary to the purpose of simplification targeted by the present invention.
In some cases, even starting from a sheet in the W state, which generally has the best formability, we can not avoid resorting to a second forming step after dissolution and quenching; this is the third variant of the method which corresponds to the prior art.
This way of working the alloy sheets 2024 by deep shaping and, if necessary, on fresh quenching, tends to develop more and more as we move towards individual pieces of larger size to reduce the number of assemblies, which meets objectives that are both technical (assemblies are corrosion initiation sites and fatigue crack sites) and economic (the assembly operation represents a significant part of the cost of manufacturing of an airplane). In addition, the use of large parts reduces the weight of the aircraft.
In all cases, during the last transformation, the properties of damage tolerance deteriorate under the effect of hardening associated with this deformation.
The object of the invention is therefore to simplify the process for manufacturing formed parts, and in particular parts that are highly deformed by one or more processes such as stretch-forming, stamping, spinning or bending, by the combination of an optimized chemical composition and particular manufacturing processes, to avoid as much as possible the setting in solution on formed sheet metal.
It goes without saying that any new manufacturing process of highly deformed parts must lead to parts having mechanical characteristics and use at least as good as existing products.
Another object of the invention is to obtain parts whose properties of damage tolerance do not degrade after deformation.
Preferably, the alloy has a copper content of between 3.9 and 4.3% (and even more preferably between 3.9 and 4.2%), a magnesium content of between 1.2 and 1.4% (and still preferably between 1.25 and 1.35%), a manganese content between 0.3 and 0.45% iron content <0.10%, silicon content <0.10% (and preferably < 0.08%), titanium, chromium and zirconium content <0.07% (preferably <0.05%). The method according to the invention makes it possible to optionally use plated sheets, for example examples of sheets covered with an alloy plating more resistant to corrosion, as is usually the case for aircraft fuselage liner plates.
A first feature of the invention is to use a modified alloy compared to the traditional 2024. The first modification consists in reducing the Si and Fe contents respectively below 0.25 and 0.20%, and preferably below 0.10%. On the other hand, the Mn content is also reduced below 0.5% and preferably below 0.45%. Finally, the Cu content is also slightly reduced and maintained below 4.5%, and preferably below 4.3%, or even 4.2%. The Mg content is also slightly reduced, and kept below 1.5%, preferably between 1.2 and 1.4%, or even between 1.25 and 1.35%.
The applicant has observed that this composition, suggested by the prior art, does not by itself to achieve the required formability.
The alloy is cast into plates, which are homogenized at a temperature between 460 and 510 ° C (preferably between 470 and 500 ° C) for 2 to 12 hours (preferably 3 to 6 hours). The plates may be scalped. The hot rolling is carried out with an inlet temperature of between 430 and 470 ° C, and preferably between 440 and 460 ° C. The outlet temperature of the strips is at a temperature higher than the usual temperature,> 300 ° C., and preferably> 310 ° C.
At the exit of the hot rolling the strips are wound. They present at this stage an elongation of more than 13.5%, and most often greater than 15% in the L and TL directions. The strips are then cut into sheets.
A first variant of the invention consists in shaping, by stretch-forming, stamping, spinning or bending, directly on this state F without annealing or other prior treatment. The partially shaped sheet is then dissolved at a temperature between 480 and 500 ° C for a period of between 5 minutes and 1 hour, then quenched, usually with cold water.
The formatting is done in two or more passes. The freshly hardened part (less than one hour) can undergo a new shaping immediately, or it is transferred to a cold room at a temperature below 10 ° C and preferably below 0 ° C, and shaped to the exit of the cold room. One or two sided plates can be used, which is the most common case for aircraft fuselage panels plated with a 1000 series alloy, for example 1050, 1100, 1200, 1135 alloys. , 1145, 1170, 1175, 1180, 1185, 1188, 1199, 1230, 1235, 1250, 1285, 1350 or 1435.
In the case where sheets are used in the T3 or T4 state, these sheets have a compromise between their mechanical strength and their formability corresponding to at least one of the following sets of properties:
- an average value of the three values R p0,2 measured in the TL, L and 45 ° directions, greater than 305 MPa, and
- an LDH value greater than 72 mm for a thickness of 1.6 mm, or an LDH value greater than 76 mm for a thickness of 3.2 mm, or an LDH value greater than 80 mm for a thickness of between 4 and 7 mm .
- an average value of the three values Ag measured in the TL, L and at 45 ° directions, greater than 18%.
- an average value of the three values R p0,2 measured in the TL, L and 45 ° directions, greater than 305 MPa, and
- an average value of the three Ag% values measured in the TL, L and 45 ° directions, greater than 18%.
- an average value of the three values of plane traction Atp measured in the directions TL, L and at 45 °, greater than 18%,
- an LDH value greater than 72 mm for a thickness of 1.6 mm, or an LDH value greater than 76 mm for a thickness of 3.2 mm, or an LDH value greater than 80 mm for a thickness of between 4 and 7 mm .
- Rp0,2 : limite conventionnelle d'élasticité à 0,2 % d'allongement permanent (en MPa);
- Rm: résistance à la rupture (en MPa) ;
- A: allongement après rupture (en %), représenté parfois par le symbole " A% ";
Parts made with sheets both in the T3 or T4 state and in the W state show very little deterioration of the damage tolerance after the last shaping operation, if its amplitude is less than 6 %.
The various parameters used above, as well as in the examples which follow, for characterizing formability, a generic term indicating the relative ease of a metal to be deformed, are defined as follows:
From a uniaxial tensile test according to EN 10002-1, carried out for a sheet thickness greater than or equal to 3 mm with a proportional test piece having an initial length between Lo marks proportional to the area of the initial section So according to the relation Lo = 5.65√So, and for a sheet thickness of less than 3 mm with a non-proportional type 1 test according to EN 10002-1, Table 4, the following parameters are obtained:
- R p0,2 : conventional yield strength at 0.2% permanent elongation (in MPa);
- R m : breaking strength (in MPa);
- A: elongation after rupture (in%), sometimes represented by the symbol "A%";
- A g : non-proportional elongation under maximum load, also called distributed elongation (in%).
All values from a uniaxial tensile test are average values obtained from two specimens taken at the same location.
The distributed elongation is the difference in elongation between the beginning and the end of the plastic deformation domain, that is to say the deformation domain permanent before necking, of the deformation curve.
The plane tensile elongation A tp corresponds to the elongation at break in a so-called flat tensile traction test, in which, unlike the uniaxial tensile test, a two-dimensional deformation is obtained, therefore in a plane, and not in three dimensions, that is to say that ε 2 = 0 instead of ε 2 = - ε 1/2 .
The parameter LDH (limit dome height) is widely used for the evaluation of the drawability of sheet thickness 0.5 to 2 mm. It has been the subject of numerous publications, including:
The same method can be used to characterize the formability of sheets of greater thickness (from 3 to 9 mm), but it is then necessary to use a larger tool (punch ø = 250 mm).
A flat test piece of length L = 250 mm, width λ = 12 mm and thickness 0.1 mm <e <5 mm is inserted between two self-locking clamping jaws and kept under tension by means of a hydraulic cylinder, integral with the test mechanism . The traction force, defined beforehand, is kept constant throughout the bending, thanks to the servovalve hydraulic regulation of the traction cylinder. The control loop integrates the voltage stress per measurement with a piezoelectric sensor (Kistler washer). The tensile stress depends on the alloy and the thickness of the specimen.
A displacement sensor, connected to the acquisition computer, allows continuous control of the test parameters and calculates the bending angle of the specimen. A shaped punch, integral with the upper frame of the traction machine, serves to support the test piece. The bending angle used during the tests was 140 °, for a punch of radius r = 70 mm. Each folded sample is inspected after disassembly using a probing profilometer. This measuring device makes it possible to evaluate the final angle as well as the radius of curvature obtained.
The traction applied to the test piece, corresponding to the desired plastic deformation, is determined using the rational tensile curve by graphically raising the stress equivalent to the desired strain rate. The initial strain rate, defining the bending force, was kept constant during the 0.2% test.
The springback is given by the formula:
- α f =
- angle measured by the profilometer (in °)
- α o =
- angle measured during folding by the PC (in °)
- R e =
- elastic return (worth 0 for a null return and 1 for a total return).
- R o =
- punching radius
- R f =
- radius measured with the profilometer
- R e =
- elastic return (worth 0 for a null return and 1 for a total return).
and D. Lee, "The automated measurement of strains from three dimensional
deformed surfaces", J. O. M., vol. 42, 1990, pp. 8-13.
avec les coordonnées ε1 et ε2.The forming limit curves are determined according to ISO 12004 (1987). Rectangular sizes of size 500 x L (L equal to 300 mm or 500 mm), are stamped according to the LDH test after having been previously printed with a grid (mesh 2 x 2 mm 2 ). The test with L = 500 mm conducted after stamping at: ε 1 ≅ ε 2 (biaxial deformation); the test with L = 300 mm conducted after stamping at ε 2 ≅ 0 (plane deformation).
After breaking, the formats are analyzed using the automatic CamSys system in the vicinity of the cracking zone. The Asame-CamSys software makes it possible to establish a map of the deformations of the measured zones as described by JH Vogel and D. Lee, "The automated measurement of strains from three dimensional deformed surfaces", JOM, vol. 42, 1990, pp. 8-13. The limit deformations before localized necking are thus estimated and put on a forming diagram with the coordinates ε 1 and ε 2 .
The damage tolerance is characterized according to ASTM E561 (R curve test). The test was carried out on test pieces with a central crack width W = 400 mm for a crack length 2a 0 = 133 mm. It measures both the critical factor of plane stress in stress intensity K c and the apparent stress intensity factor K c0 (sometimes also designated by the symbol K app).

It is found that the judicious choice of the chemical composition, suggested by WO 96/29440, is not sufficient on its own to improve formability in a manner consistent with the object of the present invention. On the other hand, the plaintiff observed that the choosing a high hot rolling mill outlet temperature leads to a improvement in formability, expressed by elongation at break A. the effect of chemical composition (especially Cu <4.3 and preferentially <4.2, Si <0.10; Fe <0.10) being only auxiliary.
It can be seen that the method according to the invention ensures a better aptitude for the implementation of form in F, expressed in terms of A%, LDH or CLF, that the process according to the prior art. More particularly, a cold rolled strip has an LDH value greater than 42 mm and preferably higher at 44 mm, while a hot-rolled strip has an LDH value greater than 73 and preferably greater than 75 mm. We also see that for a thickness given, the preferred composition gives a better formability than the traditional composition.
composition chimique (ex 1p et 1q comparés à 1k et 1n).The mechanical properties of the intermediate product (R m , R p0,2 etc.) do not matter in this situation, provided that the finished product at the end of the whole process has at least one mechanical characteristics. as high as the product resulting from the process according to the prior art. In the state T42, as defined by the draft standard prEN 4211 of July 1995, for a thickness of 6 mm and with an identical manufacturing range, the two products have equivalent mechanical properties.
For the process according to the invention, there is also a cumulative effect of the exit temperature of the hot rolling mill (eg 1 e and 1j compared to 1k and 1n) and of the chemical composition (eg 1p and 1q compared to 1k and 1n).
The value of the LDH and the level of the CLF curves are lower for a sheet cold-worked only for a sheet which has only undergone hot rolling; this effect is known. On the other hand, the plaintiff was surprised to find that for one given process (hot rolling) and comparable thickness, the value of LDH, which is one of the relevant parameters for measure formability, increases significantly when the chemical composition is within a preferential range: Cu 3.9 - 4.3 and preferably 3.9 4.2, Mg 1.2-1.4 and preferably 1.25-1.35, Mn 0.30-0.45, Si <0.10 and preferentially <0.08, Fe <0.10. In addition, the plaintiff found that the formability is further enhanced when certain addition and impurity elements are strictly controlled, as follows: Zn <0.20%, Cr <0.07% and preferably <0.05%, Zr <0.07% and preferably <0.05%, Ti 0.07% and preferably <0.05%.
Various alloys have been made whose compositions are shown in Table 3. Rolling plates were cast, scalped and then homogenized at a temperature between 470 C and 510 ° C for 2 h to 12 h. After plating with an alloy 1050, the plates were hot-rolled (abbreviated method "Lc") up to a final thickness greater than or equal to 4 mm; for thicknesses lower, the strips were rolled cold. After cutting sheet metal strips, these have been subjected to a typical dissolution for these types of alloys (see prEN 4211 of July 95), quenched and characterized 30 minutes after quenching. The The results are summarized in Table 4. In order to compare rigorous sampling, dissolution and quenching were carried out on machined test pieces ready for use, and for each characterization of the properties mechanical, the deformation started exactly 30 minutes after the end of the quenching. The Examples 2h, 2L, 2m, 2p correspond to the prior art.
It can be seen that the process leads, for examples 2a, 2b, 21, 2j, 2k, 2n, of comparable thickness, to better formability in the W state, as is apparent from the following properties: total elongation A%, elongation distributed A g , elongation in plane tension A tp , LDH, CLF. With regard to the forming limit curve, it can be seen that for a sheet with a thickness of 5 mm (eg 2n), unlike a sheet according to the prior art, it is practically of the same thickness (eg 2p). coefficient ε 1 0.22 for L = 500 mm, and ε 2 > 0.18 for L = 500 mm.
The advantage of the above method over the prior art is therefore to be able to carry out deeper shaping in the W state, or even to eliminate an intermediate solution for very deep shaping.
It was thus possible to manufacture parts in a single pass, whereas according to the prior art, two passes were necessary to achieve them.
Various alloys were prepared whose compositions are shown in Table 5. Rolling plates were cast, scalped and then homogenized at a temperature of between 460 ° C. and 510 ° C. for 3 hours to 6 hours. After plating with 1050 alloy, the plates were hot-rolled to a final thickness greater than or equal to 4 mm; for lower thicknesses, the strips were cold rolled. The sheets cut from these strips were subjected to dissolution typically for these types of alloys indicated in Table 6 (see prEN 4211 of July 95), quenched, matured (at least 48 hours at room temperature). Then a cold work hardening was carried out by means of wrinkling followed by a controlled pull with a permanent deformation of 1.5%. The results are summarized in Table 6.
Examples 3s, 3t, 3u, 3v, 3w correspond to the prior art. Examples 3a, 3c, 3d correspond to Examples 2h, 2L and 2m of Example 2; they are shown here for comparison to represent a 2024 W state according to the prior art.
When T3-optimized composition plates are compared to the plates used in the processes according to the prior art, that is to say a 2024 alloy in the T3 state (Examples 3s, 3t, 3u, 3v, 3w) or W (Examples 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d)), it can be seen that for a given thickness, the process leads to a better formability, as evidenced by the elongation at break and especially the LDH values. and CLF. The springback is lower than in the prior art.
More particularly, when the chemical composition is in the preferred range, the process leads to an improvement of the formability as it is characterized by the parameters which have just been enumerated. It is possible to carry out a much more severe shaping than in the T3 state of the prior art, or even to eliminate the dissolution in solution since the process leads to a product in the T3 state which has formability at least as good as the product in state W from the process according to the prior art.
Les résultats sont rassemblés dans le Tableau 7.On the other hand, stretching was carried out on two sheets leading to a total elongation of 3% or 5%, and the properties of damage tolerances, namely the toughness K CO and K C in the directions, were measured before and after drawing. TL and LT. The mechanical characteristics in the TL direction were also measured. The results are collated in Table 7.
