The invention relates to the transport of objects fragile, like works of art and cost objects high, such as master paintings and sculptures. The invention also relates to the security of such objects during transport, in particular, against external, accidental or no, which may be encountered during the transport.

Art antérieur et problème poséPrior art and problem posed

The works of art are currently transported in ordinary packaging, such as wooden cases, light alloy cases. These specific types of packaging do not that partial protection in normal environment of transport, even non-existent in environment accidental. There follows a rate of degradation relatively important, when transporting such works. Given their fragility, they are therefore so far insured for large sums.

In external aggressions which may alter such works of art during transport, we can note, in normal environment, the vibrations due to transport, handling shocks, variations in temperature, pressure and humidity. In accidental environment, there are falls, road impacts, air accidents, fires, abnormal variations in temperature, pressure and humidity, the presence of gas harmful and the possibility of immersion.

The object of the invention is to remedy these disadvantages by proposing an object capable of ensuring transport of works of art under known normal and accidental conditions.

On the other hand, patent document US-A-2,746,824 (J. BOND) describes a waterproof container which must resist shocks, such as crates containing parachutes. This container is parallelepiped shape and consists of a main chest and a cover. Handling means, such as handles, complete this container on its outer walls. Inside (Figure 7), it can be seen that damping means are provided for provide an elastic connection between the outer enclosure and elements inside the container (like panel 15), these elastic connections are made by rubber elements. The outer corners of the container are supplemented with shock absorbers mechanical.

The invention and its various technical characteristics will be better understood on reading the following description, accompanied by the two figures representing respectively:
  • Figure 1, in perspective and slightly exploded, the container-box comprising the box and the container according to the invention;

Description détaillée d'une réalisation de l'inventionDetailed description of a realization of the invention

Figure 1 shows the two parts of the container container according to the invention, that is to say a trunk 1, shown closed, and a container 2A and 2B, shown open, inside which is placed the trunk 1. In this figure 1, we do not therefore distinguishes, from trunk 1, that stiffeners exterior 12 placed on the outer surface 13 of the lower part of this chest 1. In this case, this the latter is of parallelepiped shape and the stiffeners 12 are therefore perpendicular to each other and parallel to the edges and walls of this chest 1. We also distinguishes from pallet tunnels 14 placed completely below the trunk 1, to allow manipulation of the latter by handling elevators.

Preferably, the trunk has a number minimum of stiffeners 12, for example two stiffeners 12 per meter and spaced approximately 300 mm apart, the means connecting behaving like a stiffener 12. The stiffeners 12 are placed in such a way that at the time of the fall, both behave in a way identical with respect to the frontal deformation for avoid any tearing of the external enclosure.

We note that, in this case, the set is shown in transport position, the trunk being placed on edge. We also represented vertically the two parts that are a body 35 and a trunk lid 36.

We now refer to Figure 3. The material of the external enclosure 16 is a ductile steel, it deforms regularly under impact by absorbing of energy and transmits a residual part to the internal enclosure 15 which is slightly deformable, with stiffeners 12 spaced approximately 300 mm apart. To reduce its mass, the internal enclosure 15 is made of an alloy aluminum or composite.

Dans cette réalisation, il s'agit d'un isolant en poudre compactée 17 et d'un isolant en fibres 18.It also has insulation 17 and 18 placed between the outer casing and the corresponding internal envelope. In this realization, it is a compacted powder insulator 17 and a fiber insulator 18.

The internal temperature is limited by a thermal insulation produced by light materials, multi-layers, of variable density secured by bonding, or by pins either to the external enclosure, either at the internal enclosure. For insulating materials 17 and 18 thermally bonded to the external enclosure the calculated total thickness is 70 mm, confirmed by tests on similar specimens, so that the internal temperature does not exceed 60 ° C on the content for a flame temperature of 800 ° C at outside for a limited time of the fire.

An active refrigeration system, not shown, based on pressurized gas in a tank and placed in the external enclosure allows limit the temperature to a lower value in the event of need.

The enlargement shown in Figure 4 shows some elements of the transport case, according to the invention. Indeed, one distinguishes there, in particular to the exterior of the volume delimited by the external enclosure 16, but within the volume delimited by the stiffeners 12, folding handles 45 facilitating handling and in particular the setting on edge of the trunk after loading, and the means of connection between the body 36 and the cover 35. They consist mainly of bolts 19 tightening two flanges of the outer enclosure 16 of the cover 35 and of the body 36. A protective rim 40 of the "water drop" type, fixed to cover 35, protects the seal against external aggressions. Protection vis-à-vis flames and hot gases is ensured by a fire seal 39 and by an insert in form of baffle 41 which, in addition, can receive a thermo-swelling gasket in case of gasket failure firewall 39. In normal use-opening situation and filling the trunk, this chicane serves as protection insulators.

As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the internal enclosure also has a body 38 and a cover 37. The latter preferably constitutes a single face of the parallelepiped formed by the enclosure internal 15. Connection means made up of bolts 44 keep the body assembled 38 and the cover 37, a seal 43 being inserted between these two elements.

Figure 4 shows the presence a metal reinforcement 42 in the shape of a U and placed on the periphery of the body 38, in order to stiffen this internal enclosure 15. It is specified that this last is preferably made of a relatively material light such as an alloy.

Note that trunk 1 can be used alone for land transport, i.e. road and rail.

With reference to Figure 1 and regarding the container inside which is the trunk 1, we distinguish these two main constituent parts which are a base 2B and a cover 2A.

The base 2B, of parallelepiped shape, of so as to match the shape of the trunk, present also horizontal and vertical stiffeners 21 on the external surface 22 of this base 2B. Tunnels 23 are also provided in the lower part of this body 2B to allow the gripping of the entire container by an elevator Handling.

The base 2B and the cover 2A have closure flanges 24 placed at their junction and thus define a joint plane.

In Figure 1, there are shown holes fixing 25 placed in these reinforcing sheets 24 for symbolize means of connection of the cover 2A on the base 2B by screw-nut systems.

Inside the base 2B were shown corners 26 which are preferably in balsa, or a very light equivalent wood. They constitute positioning and wedging for the trunk 1 placed in the container and prevent degradation of these materials internal adaptation by pallet tunnels 14 of trunk 1, during loading and during transport phases.

The rest of the interior of base 2B, that is to say the space remaining between the body 2B and the trunk 1, can be filled with a material of filling and / or internal adaptation 27 intended for avoid internal positioning intended to cushion shock and thermally insulated. Glass foam can perform these functions. The adaptation material internal can also consist of nests bee, small deformable tubes of material composite thus constituting a shock absorbing structure of shock by absorption of energy.

It is possible to put in the plan of joint between cover 2A and base 2B of the means of positioning by deep centering of these two air container components. A deep baffle can perform this function.

In addition, it is also possible to use, at this joint plane, a joint "thermo-inflating", not shown. Such a seal "thermo-inflating" is not effective, from the point of view of tightness, under normal conditions of transport. However, in the event of a very rapid rise temperature, for example during a fire, thermo-inflating joint expands and takes up all the space in which it can expand and thus ensures effective thermal insulation for the trunk placed inside the container.

The assembly of cover 2A and base 2B can be made of a very thick material (3 mm), such as E 690 or E 680 high steel mechanical characteristics. The stiffeners are made of tubes, preferably of sections rectangular and are spaced 300mm apart, approximately. We specifies that, preferably, the reinforcing sheets 24, do not not exceed the space defined by the external surfaces of the stiffeners 21.

You can also use a seal elastomer, not shown, between the cover 2A and the body 2B.

It is specified that such a container meets the I. standards A. T. A. INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION on air containers (Unit Load Device Technical Manual). The container, as it is defined, can therefore provide quality protection vis-à-vis external aggressions to be recorded in accidental environment, like that of a air accident.

It is specified that such a container can protect one or more fragile object (s) placed inside the trunk, during an impact test performed at forty meters per second on one side side of the container, this speed corresponding to that of a vertical fall from the ground for a impact of the aircraft's impact on the envelope of the container between twenty and thirty degrees.

In Figure 2, we find the elements of the container, such as the corners 26, the material internal adaptation 27, the reinforcing sheets 24, the palletizing tunnels 23 and stiffeners 21. We specifies that these are perpendicular to each other in relation to others and in relation to external surfaces of the air container which is shaped cuboid. On the section, that is to say the left part of this figure 2, we found around the horizontal stiffeners 21, sling shackles 28. Between the balsa wedge 26 and the internal glass foam type adaptation material 27, a housing 30 has been provided for a tunnel palletization 14 of the trunk. We also included a screw-nut closure system 29 between the two reinforcing sheets 24 of the cover 2A and of the base 2B.

Un rebord 40, fixé au couvercle 35 juste au-dessus du plan de joint, protège ce dernier (système du type "goutte d'eau").Regarding trunk 1, we can distinguish in Figure 3 the cover 35 and the body 36 placed one on the other, the screw-nut connection means 19 fixed on external reinforcing sheets 46 of these two parts which constitute the cover 35 and the body 36. The trunk also has suspension means shock absorber 32 of the internal enclosure inside the external enclosure. They consist here of studs "RADIAFLEX" elastic bands 33 sold by the company PAULSTRA and elastic screwed shims 49, arranged in look of the reinforcements 46. It is also possible to provide level of shock absorbers made up of small high capacity composite material tubes energy absorption. A flange 40, fixed to the cover 35 just above the parting line, protects it ("drop of water" type system).

The external face of the external enclosure can be equipped with rigid gripping parts allowing tilt the trunk from the position of loading to transport position, for example by means of a hoist.

  • une température variant de - 25 à + 50°C ;
  • une pression ou une dépression de ± 100 mb ;
  • un brouillard salin de 2 jours ;
  • un arrosage ou une pluie d'une heure à 5 cm/h ;
  • des vibrations de 1,5 à 100 Hz ;
  • des chutes de manutention de 1,2 m sur le côté le plus fragile ;
  • un choc dit "moyen" de 30 g à 11 m/s ;
  • des accélérations statiques de l'ordre 10 m/s2.
The trunk can therefore undergo the material conditions of a normal transport environment. These are:
  • a temperature varying from - 25 to + 50 ° C;
  • a pressure or vacuum of ± 100 mb;
  • a 2-day salt spray;
  • one hour of watering or rain at 5 cm / h;
  • vibrations from 1.5 to 100 Hz;
  • handling falls of 1.2 m on the most fragile side;
  • a so-called "medium" shock of 30 g at 11 m / s;
  • static accelerations of the order of 10 m / s 2 .

  • une chute de 9 m de haut (vitesse d'impact : 14 m/s) ;
  • un choc sur une barre métallique du type fourche de chariot élévateur ;
  • un incendie dû à un feu de kérosène à 800°C, pendant 30 minutes, ou pendant 10 minutes s'il est agressé ;
The accidental conditions for the trunk are as follows:
  • a 9 m drop (impact speed: 14 m / s);
  • a shock on a metal bar of the forklift fork type;
  • a fire caused by a kerosene fire at 800 ° C, for 30 minutes, or for 10 minutes if attacked;
  • immersion in 1 m of water for 8 hours.

The container must undergo more difficult conditions, in particular with regard to the usual vibrations of 5 to 2000 Hz and static accelerations of the order of 30 m / s 2 .

  • une décélération de 100 m/s2 selon l'axe longitudinal du conteneur ;
  • un impact à 40 m/s selon les axes vertical et horizontal sur une cible rigide ;
  • une immersion en grande profondeur (15 m d'eau pendant 8 heures) ;
In an accidental environment, the air container can undergo the following conditions:
  • a deceleration of 100 m / s 2 along the longitudinal axis of the container;
  • an impact at 40 m / s along the vertical and horizontal axes on a rigid target;
  • immersion in great depth (15 m of water for 8 hours);
  • kerosene fire at 800 ° C for 30 min.

L'intérieur du coffre reste en dessous d'une température de 60°C.In all these conditions, the trunk provides maximum protection to the object transported. The interior of the trunk remains below a temperature of 60 ° C.

The present invention applies to transport of works of art, fragile objects and expensive, special food, products pharmaceutical or medical products, high technology.

In the present description, the trunk has been described in its application to transport and the container in its application to air transport. Other modes of transport and storage may of course use such equipment.
