Eine zuverlässige Überwachung der Leimmenge innerhalb des Leimwulstes wird gemäß einer vorteilhaften Ausgestaltung dadurch gewährleistet, daß der Leimwulst innerhalb einer an eine Leimzuführung angeschlossenen Gehäusekammer aufrechterhalten wird, welche mit einer der Niveaukontrolleinrichtung zugekehrten Quellöffnung versehen ist.
Eine Niveauschwankungen schnell und exakt erfassende Weiterbildung besteht darin, daß die Niveaukontrolleinrichtung einen Abstandssensor aufweist.
Das durch Wasserverdunstung abnehmende Leimvolumen des Leimwulstes wird am schnellsten nach einem weiteren Vorschlag dadurch wieder aufgefüllt, daß das Wasserzuführungsaggregat mit einer auf die Quellöffnung der Gehäusekammer ausgerichteten Zugabeleitung versehen ist.
Ein präziser Volumenausgleich des Leimwulstes ist gemäß einer weiteren Ausgestaltung dadurch gewährleistet, daß die Zugabeleitung mit einer durch die Niveaukontrolleinrichtung ansteuerbaren, an einen Vorratstank angeschlossenen Pumpe verbunden ist.
Zweckmäßigerweise ist der Niveaukontrolleinrichtung ein auf die Leimwalzenoberfläche ausgerichteter Temperatursensor zugeordnet, der zusammen mit der Niveaukontrolleinrichtung mit einem eine Abhängigkeit zwischen der Walzentemperatur und der Wasserverdunstung des Leimwulstes pro Zeiteinheit anzeigenden Meßwertgeber verknüpft ist. Auf diese Weise wird sichergestellt, daß ausschließlich durch Verdunstung bedingter Wasserverlust des Leimwulsts durch Wasserzugabe ausgeglichen wird und nicht infolge einer Leimleckage aus der Wulstkammer ausgetretener Leim durch den Leim in dem Leimwulst zunehmend verdünnendes Wasser ersetzt wird.

Dabei nicht abgenommener Leim wird durch die beiden Leimwalzen 2 und 3 in den Leimwulst 24 zurückgeführt. Die Menge des im Leimwulst 24 befindlichen Leims wird durch die Niveaukontrolleinrichtung 13 derart überwacht, daß aus der Leimquellöffnung 12 austretender Leim durch den Abstandssensor 14 überwacht und daß bei außerhalb der tolerierten Schwankungsbreite des Leimniveaus über die Leimzuführungsbohrung Leim nachgefüllt wird.
Falls die Maschine beispielsweise wegen einer Störung zeitweise angehalten werden muß, wird das Leimwerk weiterhin in Betrieb gehalten, um ein Eintrocknen des Leims zu verhindern. Da jedoch laufend Leim aus dem Leimwulst 24 entnommen und auf der Walzenoberflächen der Leimwalzen 2 und 3 herumgeführt wird, nimmt das Leimvolumen innerhalb des Leimwulstes 24 durch permanente Wasserverdunstung des Leims ab, so daß die Gefahr besteht, daß der Leim sich zunehmend verfestigt. Um dies zu vermeiden, wird das dabei zwangsläufig abnehmende Leimniveau an der Leimquellöffnung 12 durch den Abstandssensor festgestellt. Damit ein etwaiger verdunstungsunabhängiger bzw. leckagebedingter Leimverlust zu keiner Verfälschung des verdunstungsbedingten Niveausignals führt, wird durch den die Niveausignale und die Temperatursignale verrechnenden Meßwertgeber 16 eine Abhängigkeit zwischen der Walzentemperatur und der Wasserverdunstung des Leimwulstes pro Zeiteinheit angezeigt. Wenn aus diesen Meßwerten eine Leckage ausgeschlossen werden kann, wird bei registriertem sinkenden Pegelstand des Leims an der Leimquellöffnung 12 der Gehäusekammer 8 ein Signal über die Signalleitung 23 zur Aktivierung der Pumpe 21 ausgelöst, welche Wasser aus dem Vorratstank 19 über die Zugabeleitung 22 in unmittelbarer Nähe der Leimquellöffnung 12 auf die Walzenoberfläche der Leimwalze 2 gegeben, so daß durch die die Verdunstung ausgleichende Wasserzugabe die Viskosität des Leims innerhalb des Leimwulstes 24 aufrechterhalten wird. Damit ist bei Wiederinbetriebnahme der Maschine jederzeit die volle Betriebsbereitschaft des Leimwerks garantiert.
In the normal production process with the machine running, glue is permanently fed through the glue feed hole 9 into the inlet gusset or into the housing chamber 8, so that the glue bead 24 forms, from which glue is continuously removed by the glue roller 3 and transferred to a paper web 26 to be glued . The amount of the glue in the glue bead 24 is monitored by the level control device 13 in such a way that glue emerging from the glue source opening 12 is monitored by the distance sensor 14 and that glue is replenished via the glue feed hole if the glue level is outside the tolerated fluctuation range.
If, for example, the machine has to be stopped temporarily due to a malfunction, the glue unit is kept in operation to prevent the glue from drying out. However, since glue is continuously removed from the glue bead 24 and guided around on the roller surfaces of the glue rollers 2 and 3, the glue volume within the glue bead 24 decreases due to permanent water evaporation of the glue, so that there is a risk that the glue will increasingly solidify. To avoid this, the inevitably decreasing glue level at the glue source opening 12 is determined by the distance sensor. So that any evaporation-independent or leakage-related glue loss does not lead to falsification of the evaporation-related level signal, a dependency between the roller temperature and the water evaporation of the glue bead per unit of time is indicated by the level transmitter 16 and the temperature signals. If a leakage can be excluded from these measured values, a signal is triggered via the signal line 23 for activating the pump 21 when the level of the glue at the glue source opening 12 of the housing chamber 8 drops, which water from the storage tank 19 via the addition line 22 in the immediate vicinity the glue source opening 12 is placed on the roller surface of the glue roller 2, so that the viscosity of the glue within the glue bead 24 is maintained by the addition of evaporation to compensate for the evaporation. This ensures that the gluing unit is always fully operational when the machine is restarted.
