  • This invention relates generally to automobile door hinges and, more particularly, to low cost, zero-clearance hinges.
  • Door hinges are an important component of automotive closures. Hinges affect the door-margin accuracy, which in turn plays a large role in the quality perception of the total vehicle. It is therefore important that the pivoting joint of the hinge is manufactured in the most accurate way possible, while controlling the cost of material and manufacturing. In many cases, it is a further requirement that the door hinge be able to be dismantled in order to remove the door from the vehicle after it has been painted but before the body has been trimmed. The removal of the door allows large interior components of the automobile to be installed and eases the assembly of the door hardware.
  • United States Patent No. 5,033,163 teaches a mechanism for coupling body-side and door-side hinge members to facilitate for such door removal.

  • the hinge of U.S. Patent No. 5,033,163, however, does not possess a zero-clearance pivot joint and is not perceived as a top-quality door hinge in the current marketplace.
  • U.S. Patent No. 4,542,588 discloses a hinge which does possess a zero-clearance disengageable joint. This hinge, however, is constructed of relatively costly machined, hot-rolled profile parts and is designed as a single shear joint which is weaker than the double shear joint taught in U.S. Patent No. 5,033,163.

Claims (6)

  1. Charnière pour assembler une portière d'automobile à une carrosserie d'automobile comprenant :
    (i) une portion latérale de portière (3) ayant des première et deuxième ouvertures circulaires (23, 24) ;
    (ii) une portion latérale de carrosserie ayant des troisième et quatrième ouvertures circulaires (25, 27) ;
    (iii) lesdites première, deuxième, troisième et quatrième ouvertures adaptées pour être alignées autour d'un axe ;
    (iv) des première et seconde douilles (1, 2) adaptées pour s'ajuster dans lesdites première et deuxième ouvertures circulaires respectivement ;
    (v) un tube (4) ayant une première extrémité et une seconde extrémité adaptées pour être insérées sensiblement à travers lesdites première et seconde douilles et pour s'ajuster sans jeu contre lesdites douilles ;
    (vi) ladite première extrémité du tube comprenant un rebord (16) adapté pour s'appuyer contre ladite première douille (1) ;
    (vii) ladite seconde extrémité du tube (5) adaptée pour être matricée suivant ladite insertion pour s'appuyer sur ladite seconde douille (2) ;
    (viii) ledit tube comprenant une portion taraudée (10) sur sa face intérieure adjacente à ladite première extrémité ;
    (ix) un axe de charnière (7) ayant une extrémité de tête et une extrémité avant adaptées pour fixer la portion latérale de portière à la portion latérale de carrosserie au niveau dudit axe ;
    (x) l'axe de charnière (7) comprenant :
    (a) une tête (19) au niveau de l'extrémité de tête, adaptée pour être tournée par engagement d'un outil ;
    (b) une section conique (13) adjacente à la tête adaptée pour venir en contact avec ladite portion latérale de carrosserie adjacente à la troisième ouverture ;
    (c) une première section filetée (8) ayant un pas de filetage choisi, adjacente à la section conique adaptée pour engager la portion taraudée du tube (10);
    (d) une section non filetée à diamètre plus étroit ;
    (e) une seconde section filetée (9) ayant un pas de filetage correspondant au pas de filetage de la première section filetée adjacente à l'extrémité avant, adaptée pour engager le tube adjacent à la seconde extrémité et la portion latérale de carrosserie adjacente à la quatrième ouverture.
  2. Charnière selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle les portions latérales de carrosserie et de portière de la charnière sont estampées.
  3. Charnière selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle la portion latérale de carrosserie est chanfreinée autour de la troisième ouverture (6).
  4. Charnière selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle la seconde section filetée de l'axe est adaptée pour être auto-taraudeuse à travers le tube et la quatrième ouverture de la portion latérale de carrosserie.
  5. Charnière selon la revendication 1, dans laquelle le tube et la quatrième ouverture de la portion latérale de carrosserie sont taraudés pour engager la seconde section filetée de l'axe.
  6. Procédé pour assembler une charnière consistant à :
    (i) positionner une portion latérale de portière (3) d'une charnière avec des première et deuxième ouvertures circulaires (23, 24) pour l'insertion de douilles (1, 2) et d'un tube (4) ;
    (ii) ajuster les première et seconde douilles (1, 2) dans lesdites première et deuxième ouvertures circulaires (23, 24) ;
    (iii) ajuster de façon serrée un tube (4) comprenant une extrémité à rebord (16) et une extrémité sans rebord (5) à travers lesdites douilles de sorte que l'extrémité à rebord s'appuie sur ladite première douille ;
    (iv) utiliser un outil de matriçage (18), ouvrant et écartant ladite seconde extrémité du tube pour s'appuyer sur ladite seconde douille sans jeu ;
    (v) positionner une portion latérale de carrosserie de la charnière avec des troisième et quatrième ouvertures circulaires (25, 27) en ligne avec lesdites première et deuxième ouvertures circulaires (23, 24) dans la portion latérale de portière de la charnière ;
    (vi) faire tourner un axe de charnière (7) fileté de façon adjacente aux deux extrémités à travers lesdites ouvertures, de sorte que la section filetée de l'axe de charnière (8) adjacente à la tête (19), engage une portion taraudée intérieurement du tube (10) adjacente à son extrémité à rebord, et une portion filetée de l'axe adjacente à son extrémité avant, engage le tube et la portion latérale de carrosserie de la charnière adjacente à la quatrième ouverture, éliminant ainsi tout jeu libre entre la carrosserie, l'axe de charnière et le tube matricé.
