Description

The present invention relates to a container for a torpedo type weapon light from a surface building, said container being directly installed in firing position and operating independently.

To launch light torpedo-type weapons from a building surface we usually use horizontal launch tubes or catapults installed on the deck of the building or in specific rooms generally equipped with weapons handling and loading facilities in the tubes or on the catapults.

Stored in containers, light torpedoes impose on the crew heavy stages of handling, conditioning and setting up the weapon in the means of launching. During all these phases, the weapon is no longer protected and is exposed to risk of damage. In addition, weapons handling and tube loading facilities are generally complex, require additional servants and are generating additional costs due to their studies, their realization as well as their maintenance.

The energy required to launch light torpedo weapons is generally supplied by compressed air. For a tube launch, the bottles are placed in the cylinder head door or on the tube; the opening of a valve creates an overpressure on the back of the gun which is then propelled towards the front of the tube and ejected outside the boat. For a catapult launch, compressed air cylinders supply energy to a cylinder that propels the weapon to eject it from the boat. Installations using tubes or catapults also include a compressed air table for the initial loading of launch bottles or their refill after use.

Patent EP662599 describes a container which is not necessary extract the torpedo to launch it. It contains a torpedo with batteries used to power the propulsion means, a security isolating a housing load arming, said security being erased upon departure from tear. On most light torpedoes, these elements are held in place by a device called "single pin". In addition, the torpedo has a socket for remote control connected to the control computer for programming the weapon. These items must be removed as late as possible at the time of launch. Gold, it is the movement of the torpedo that produces the withdrawal of these devices.

Un tel conteneur présente de nombreux inconvénients.Such a container has many disadvantages.

On the one hand, this container is not autonomous insofar as it is necessary to remove the front and rear faces of the torpedo, to allow the connecting the power source and the torpedo departure and positioning them on a launch pad, providing the energy essential for launch.

On the other hand, we observe an almost systematic degradation of the elements removing the remote control socket which increases the workload required to allow a new use of the container.

This is why the main object of the invention is to provide a container for storage and launch of a torpedo-type weapon allowing launching autonomous of the weapon from its storage position without any operation of handling and without degradation of the remote control socket when launching the torpedo.

Another object of the invention is to provide a storage container and launching by compressed air allowing on the one hand the storage of weapons in workshop, on the other hand the transport of weapons to the buildings which must be equipped with them.

Therefore, the object of the invention is a container for storage and launch of a light torpedo-type weapon, said container comprising stacking means and devices connected to the weapon, armament security and remote adjustment, the latter comprising in particular a remote adjustment socket, container characterized in that it incorporates means for storing and releasing air tablet needed simultaneously with launching the weapon and separating the safety devices and remote control connected to it, as well as means allowing the compressed air to reach a device for extracting the intake remote setting.

According to an additional characteristic, it includes means for deactivation of the torpedo holding system and of the means for maintaining the locked position of a pin.

According to a particular characteristic, the means of storage and release of compressed air include a tank, a launch valve integrated into this tank, a slow-acting purge valve for filling and draining the tank.

According to another characteristic, the means allowing air under pressure to reach the remote control socket have a solenoid valve.

According to another characteristic, the means for extracting the outlet from remote adjustment have a body, a piston articulated in on the lever itself articulated in on the body, a cable being hooked by one end on the lever, the other end being fixed on the remote control socket after passing on an axis.

According to another characteristic, the device for deactivating the torpedo holding includes a piston and a latch.

  • FIG. 1 is a representation of the container according to the invention and of the torpedo it contains,
  • Figure 2 is a simplified representation of a device for extracting a remote setting socket.
  • Figure 3 is a simplified representation of a pin extraction device; Figure 3 'is a view along F.
  • Figure 4 is a simplified representation of a torpedo holding device.
  • Figure 5 is a simplified representation of taps with slow operation and a firing solenoid valve.
  • FIG. 6 is an illustration of the capacity of the container according to the invention to be stacked naturally.

As mentioned, an object of the invention is to avoid manipulations of the torpedo to bring it into the firing position. The container according to the invention achieves this goal since it is directly installed in the position of shoot. Another object of the invention is to allow workshop storage and transport from the weapon to the buildings without handling the weapon itself. The container according to the invention achieves this goal because it replaces conventional containers storage and transport of light torpedoes.

The different figures reveal:
  • the body of the container 1, the stacking means 2, represented here by frames, a front cover or tape 3, a coaming 4 on which is fixed a device for extracting the remote setting plug 5, a device for extracting the pin 6, a sealed crossing 7 ensuring the connection with the torpedo remote setting socket, a dehydration device 8 making it possible to maintain a defined hygrometry, a torpedo holding device 9, cooperating with a sphere 15 on the torpedo,
  • a rear ferrule 10 integrating all of the equipment necessary for storing and releasing launch energy, namely: a tank 11, a launch valve 12 integrated into this tank, a slow-acting purge valve 13 for the filling and draining of the tank, a slow-action valve 14 allowing the continuity of the launch air circuit to a firing solenoid valve 16.

In the workshop, the ferrule 10 is detached from the container body. The torpedo is guided in the body 1 by slides. The torpedo holding device 9 is put in place so as to immobilize the torpedo through its sphere 15.

The operation will be examined further in the text. Taking remote setting 5 and pin 6 are in place. Ferrule 10 is raised at the rear of the body 1. After connection to an ad-hoc installation the drain valve at slow operation 13 is open to allow filling of the reservoir 11. A pressure sensor (not shown in Figure 1) to know the pressure inside the tank 11. After closing the tap 13 and fitting the cap 17 shown in FIG. 5, the container I is ready, either for storage in workshop, or for transport to a building.

The containers are positioned at the periphery of the building so that be directly in the firing position. The containers can in particular be stacked. The stacking means 2 can for example be frames made up of two mechanically assembled parts. The lower and upper sides are machined to serve as an installation plan, either on a carfingage, or on two others containers in the case of stacking. Each frame is equipped with centering allowing the positioning of the containers on their fixing, or in the case of stacking, positioning of the upper containers compared to lower containers. The fixing devices are integrated into the frames.

  • According to the invention, the installation of the container on the building gives rise to the following operations:
  • a) fixing of the container by means of stacking means 2,
  • b) connection of the torpedo data transmission cable from the building control computer to the watertight crossing 7 and of the transmission cable for the electrical safety devices and the firing order,
  • c) removal of the cap 18, opening of the slow-action valve 14 to allow the pressurized air to arrive at the firing solenoid valve 16, replacement of the cap 18 (cf. FIG. 5). A sensor 19 makes it possible to know the position of the slow-action valve 14.
  • Le conteneur est prêt pour un tir.The container is ready for a shot.

  • The firing order for the launch, issued by the building control computer leads to the following sequence:
  • a) Opening of the firing solenoid valve 16 which allows the pressurized air to arrive at the device for extracting the remote setting socket 5.
The solenoid valve has a manual control 20, accessible after removing the cap 21, which allows manual "emergency" launching (cf. FIG. 5).
  • b) The device for extracting the remote adjustment socket 5 shown in FIG. 2 comprises a body 30. a piston 31 articulated at 32 on a lever 33 itself articulated at 34 on a body 30. A cable 35 is hooked by one of its ends on the lever 33, the other end being fixed on the remote adjustment socket 5 after passing over an axis 36. The arrival of the air coming from the firing solenoid valve 16 causes the displacement of the piston 31 therefore of the lever 33. The traction exerted on the cable 35 causes the extraction of the remote adjustment socket 5.When it is at the end of its travel, the piston 31 discovers an orifice which allows the pressurized air to arrive at the torpedo holding device 9.
  • c) The torpedo holding device 9 shown in FIG. 4 comprises two jaws 41 and 42 articulated around the axis 43, held in position by the latch 44. The latter is connected to a piston 45. The assembly is mounted in the body 46. In the position shown, the torpedo is immobilized longitudinally by means of its sphere 15. The arrival of the air coming from the device for extracting the remote adjustment socket 5 causes the piston 45 to move. which causes the latch 44 to move in tranelation and by the same to unlock the jaws 41 and 42. At the end of the stroke, the piston 45 discovers an orifice that allows the pressurized air to reach the launch valve 12 and cause are opening. This sudden opening releases the compressed gas which causes the torpedo to move forward, movement made possible by unlocking the jaws 41 and 42. As we will see, the forward movement of the torpedo causes the release of the pin 6.
  • d) The pin extraction device 6 shown in FIG. 3 comprises a support 51 fixed to the surface 4, a lever 52 mounted on an axis 55 of a rotary electromagnet 53, a sensor 54, a manual control 57 (not permanently mounted).
In nominal launch, the lever 52 maintains in position the head of the pin 6 under the action of the return spring of the electromagnet 53. The sensor 54 informs the computer for launching the locked position of pin 6. thus authorizing the launch.

During the forward movement of the torpedo, the pin 6 is subjected to a translational movement under the action of lever 52, and it then releases the different torpedo safety devices.

For this the device of extraction of the pin 6 comprises an electromagnet 53 whose supply drives a rotation of the lever 52 therefore the release of the head of the pin 6. The sensor 54 is then released, this release authorizing the continuation of the sequence by firing solenoid valve supply 16.

In the absence of electrical supply to the electromagnet 53 or failure of the latter, a manual control 57, put in place after disassembly of the cap 58 fixed on the coaming 4, actuates the lever 52 and by the same to release the head of the pin 6. The sequence can then continue.

Another arrangement of the container according to the invention relates to the lid or tap before 3. Indeed the cover or tap before 3 is fixed to the body of the container using a seal (not shown) so that as soon as the launch air is released, an overpressure is created inside the container, and causes the ejection of cover 3 before the torpedo has traveled the distance between them initially. In other words, when firing the torpedo, ejecting the front tape (3) is caused by an overpressure inside the document, this ejection having place before the torpedo has traveled the distance which separates it from the front tape (3). The launch therefore takes place safely for the torpedo.

  • In summary, the present invention therefore makes it possible, thanks to the use of a container according to the invention, to obtain a certain number of advantages such as:
  • a) protection of the torpedo for the duration of its storage in the workshop, its transport, its handling, its installation on the shooting stations,
  • b) the container frames allow its natural stacking either in workshop storage or on board installation,
  • c) the container according to the invention can be used without any handling after its installation on the shooting stations, because it is autonomous and integrates all the devices necessary for the storage of launch energy, for its loading and its release, without the need to establish a connection to an air table installed on board vessels.
According to the invention, the pneumatic device for extracting the intake remote adjustment allows an optimal extraction avoiding any deterioration of the elements contact. Otherwise. the end of the movement of the piston 31 allows ensure the continuity of the air circuit to the next equipment. The sequence of launch is thus perfectly broken down, an elementary action does not starting only when the previous one is finished.
