Device according to claim 3, characterised by the fact that the mounting legs (18a) of each body of a fitting (17) are offset laterally in relation to each other so that when the mounting legs (18a) engage with the bodies of successive fittings (16) of a continuous chain on their respective common support pins (25), the bodies (18) of the fittings (16) and their receiving parts (17) for the ends of the slats extend by one and the same distance from the internal face of the relevant side frame.
  5. Device according to one of claims 2 to 4, characterised by the fact that the distances between the holes (18b) of the legs (18a) of the fittings (16) are equal.
  6. Device according to one of the previous claims, characterised by the fact that the receiving parts (17) for the ends of the slats (12) are mounted on their respective bodies (18) by relatively rigid feet (18c) transversely, giving the slats (12) stability in their longitudinal direction.
  7. Device according to claim 6, characterised by the fact that the bodies (18) of the fittings (16) are mounted on the relevant side frame so that their receiving parts (17) for the ends of the slats (12) are at about the same level as the top edge of this side frame.
  8. Device according to claim 7, characterised by the fact that the bottom of the receiving parts (17) indicated above is situated in the vicinity of the internal face of the side frame or in contact with it.
  9. Device according to one of claims 1 to 8, characterised by the fact that the receiving parts (17) of the ends of the slats (12) are each in the form of a hood with rectangular cross section transversely to the relevant side frame.
  10. Device according to any one of claims 2 to 9, characterised by the fact that the two frames (6, 7) of the fold away part for supporting the legs are connected to each other by two lateral calliper type hinges, the hinge pin of each of which is the transverse support pin (25) common to the two mounting legs (18a) of the two bodies of consecutive fittings (16) respectively.
  11. Device according to one of claims 2 to 12, characterised by the fact that the fold away part for the back (5) is made in the form of a double head rest which may be extended telescopically in its longitudinal direction when the part for the back (5) is lifted and has a first frame (11) for supporting the slats (12) provided with side frames (8), which are hinged so as to pivot at one end on the faces (2) of the frame (1) of the bed base, a continuous chain of fittings (16) for supporting the slats (12) being mounted on each side frame (8) of the first frame (11), and a second frame (13) for supporting the slats (12) with side frames (8) mounted on the first frame (11) so as to pivot and move telescopically in relation to it when the part for the back (5) is lifted, a continuous chain of fittings (16) being mounted on each side frame (8) of the second frame (13), and by the fact that a retractable part for the back (15) with at least one slat (12) is provided to automatically occupy the space existing between the first and second frames (11, 13) when the part for the back (5) is lifted, the slat (12) of the retractable part (15) being supported at each of its ends by a lateral plate (32) by means of a fitting (16) with mounting legs (18a) mounted on two transverse support pins (25) of the lateral plate (32) arranged in relation to the frame of the bed base so that the fitting (16), which it supports and the fittings (16) of the continuous lateral chains of the first and second frames (11, 13) respectively are in one and the same longitudinal vertical plane.
  14. Device according to one of the previous claims, characterised by the fact that each of the adjacent pairs of side frames of the two hinged frames (6, 7) of the fold away part for supporting the legs respectively is provided with a mask (28) covering the free spaces between the two ends with reference to the two adjacent side frames (19) respectively.
  15. Device according to claim 14, characterised by the fact that the mask (28) has two shells (29), which are hinged in relation to the other and mounted on the two ends of the side frames (19) respectively by interlocking, one of the shells (29) having a male end part (30) engaging with a female end part (31) of the other shell (29) so as to constantly cover the space between the adjacent side frames (19) when the two hinged frames (6, 7) are lifted or lowered.
  16. Device according to claims 2 to 15, characterised by the fact that the fittings (16) are in a rubber based material or flexible plastic material and are each detachably mounted on their respective support pins (25) via their mounting legs (18a), which are engaged flexibly with these pins (25).
  17.
