Abstract

A pocket for a knitted garment panel which is produced by knitting with needles in single or double bed or in a combination thereof. The pocket comprises a pocket opening (12) adjacent a pocket pouch (11) knitted in single bed and an edge arranged in connection with the pocket opening, which edge forms a pocket border and which comprises at least one knitted loop (15) made in single bed in direct connection with the pocket pouch (11). The pocket border also comprises at least one structural knitting (14; 16, 17) running in parallel with the loop (15) and below it at the front of the pocket.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention refers to a pocket for a knitted garment panel which is produced by knitting with needles in single or double bed or in a combination thereof, which pocket comprises a pocket opening adjacent a pocket pouch knitted in single bed and an edge arranged in connection with the pocket opening, which edge forms a pocket border and which comprises at least one knitted loop made in single bed in direct connection with the pocket pouch.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In modern double bed knitting machines, one or more pockets may be knitted in directly during forming of a knitted garment panel, see for instance WO-A-9 605 349 or US-A-1 072 640. The method facilitates manufacturing of knitted garments, e.g. jackets, because it reduces the work effort considerably, in comparison with conventional attachment of separately produced pockets. Also, the pocket automatically is positioned at the right place on the garment and in relation to the pattern.
However, this production method has hitherto found limited use, because the appearance of the pockets manufactured according to the method has been suchlike, that the method is best suited for knitted garments of a certain design. If for example the pocket border only comprises one single tubular loop knitted in connection with the pocket pouch as known from WO-A-9 605 349, it has proven when the tubular loop has been stretched, that it falls to the outside pulling pocket material with it, which impairs the appearance of the garment.
THE TECHNICAL PROBLEM
One object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved pocket which also can provide decorative effects for a knitted garment.
THE SOLUTION
For this purpose, the invention is characterized in that the pocket border also comprises at least one structural knitting running in parallel with the aforementioned tubular loop and below it at the front of the pocket. Owing to that the structural knitting forms a stiffener along the front edge of the pocket front edge, preventing it from falling outwards, enabling the tubular loop to pull pocket material downwards/inwards.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The invention will be described here below with reference to an embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing, in which
Fig. 1
shows in a plane view, a piece of a knitted garment panel having a pocket according to a first embodiment of the invention, and
Fig. 2
shows correspondingly a pocket according to another embodiment of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
Figures 1 and 2 shows a piece 10 of a machine knitted garment which is knitted with needles in a so called single or double bed stitch structure or in a combination thereof. A pocket 11 is open at 12 and has been formed during knitting of the garment piece, by knitting the two sides of the pocket in a single bed stitch structure. The two sides of the pocket is joined by means of seams 13.
The pocket shown in Fig. 1 is provided with a pocket border which comprises a horizontal loop piping 14 knitted in single bed stitch structure and in direct connection with a tubular loop 15 which has been made in single bed stitch structure in direct connection with the pocket pouch 11.
By this design of the pocket, two adjacent cooperating tubular loops 14 and 15 are provided, which results in a considerably more stable edge at the pocket opening. The loop piping and the tubular loop may be knitted with yarns having one or more differing colours, which at the same time may provide for decorative effects at a knitted garment.
According to a second embodiment of the invention, the pocket shown in Fig. 2 is made with a pocket border which comprises a horizontal loop piping 16 knitted in single bed stitch structure and in connection to said loop piping a pocket border 17 knitted in single or double bed stitch structure. This border 17 connects directly to a knitted tubular loop 15 made in a single bed stitch structure in direct connection with the pocket pouch 11.
Because of this design of the pocket, a further enhanced structural stability is provided, at the same time as further variations with regard to decorative effects are possible.
Because strikingly designed pockets may be positioned in this way at precise positions on a knitted garment piece which may be folded into the front and back pieces of a garment, several time consuming work operations are dispensed with, in the manufacturing of a garment.
The pockets may be located optionally as back pockets, side pockets, breast pockets or front pockets. The garment may be designed as a waistcoat or a jacket, without folded front parts or with front parts which are folded outward or inward.
The invention is not limited to the above described embodiments, but several modifications are possible within the scope of accompanying claims. For example, the described sub-elements which form the pocket opening may be combined in many different ways, both with reference to colour and dimensions. Further, an additional loop piping 16 may be located at the transition from the pocket pouch to the garment panel, i.e. at the inside of the pocket. This loop piping 16 may also be made so wide that it can form a pocket flap.

Claims (7)
