Description

The present invention relates to binding systems of printed works and, more particularly, of the type of those which include a large number of pages and which are intended for a intensive consultation.

In known manner, bulky works, such as catalogs, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, etc ... which are intended for intensive handling are connected either permanent using flexible materials such as paper, fabric, leather or plastics, either removably using binders or spiral binders, resulting in wear quick pages and / or binding of the book.

We have already proposed, for example in document GB-A-0 597 192, to produce a book, especially for children, in which the printed part of the sheets is contained in a surface ending at a certain distance from one of the edges of the sheet, so as to leave a relatively large blank margin adjacent to this edge. This margin is perforated with two or more holes circular, extending through the covers and all leaves of the book, and spaced from this edge to receive the pins a workbook. The sheets of the book are joined together by a thread or by any other fixing means arranged opposite the circular perforations, to consolidate and strengthen the edge of the delivers in places opposite to circular perforations.

We also know from document US-A-2 706 645, a book comprising a body of sheets, cover pages, a reinforcement cardboard on each side of the leaves articulated on sheets of cardboard cover. Fasteners extend through the body of the sheets, cover pages and cardboard reinforcements. A sheath protective tape is glued to the outside of the sheets cardboard covers, articulation and cardboard reinforcements; it extends around the back of the book, and covers the fixings. The cover pages are glued to the inside surface of the sheets of cardboard cover and joints.

Also known from document FR-A-2 464 827, a process sheet assembly, where you put a cover sheet above and below a pile of sheets, we pierce the pile of sheets along one of the edges of the pile, we introduce in the point holes formed on a strip of heat-sealable material, has another strip of heat-sealable material on the tips pierced with corresponding holes, the two bands are pressed one towards the other, we weld the second strip on the tips of the first tape, we stick a sheet of resistant cardboard on each sheet of keep. The cardboard sheet has a dimension slightly less than that of the surface of the cover sheet left free by the strip heat sealable, to be able to stick it at a sufficient distance from this band and thus allow it to pivot freely around its edge facing the heat-sealable strip.

These known devices and methods are unsuitable for printed works containing a large number of pages and, above all, they do not protect the sheets of the bound work when it is often consulted.

The present invention is placed in this context and has for purpose of proposing a binding system making it possible to link printed works containing, in particular, a large number of sheets, ensuring effective protection of the sheets thus bound to allow their consultation by a large number of people, and also ensuring good legibility of the sheets in the vicinity of the binding.

To this end, the subject of the present invention is a system binding of printed works consisting of sheets comprising each a first part intended for consultation and a second part intended for binding, in which binding is obtained by pinching of all the second parts of the leaves between two reinforcement strips.

According to the invention, the first part of each sheet has an information carrier covered on both sides with coating material, and the coating material forms a strip without of information carrier, of thickness less than that of the first part of the sheet and of predetermined width, greater the clamping width of the reinforcement strips.

According to a characteristic of the invention, the strips of reinforcement cooperate with rods passing through perforations evenly distributed along the edge of the second part of the leaves.

Preferably, the rods are formed by screw rods cooperating with nuts, screw heads and nuts being located on either side of the reinforcing strips.

According to an advantageous embodiment, the two strips of reinforcement are formed in profiles each having a first wing for tightening the sheets of the work and a second wing intended to be fixed on a piece of furniture.

According to another equally advantageous embodiment, the two reinforcing strips are made in one piece, and are joined by a thinned and flexible central part.

Referring to Figures 1 and 2, there is shown a sheet intended to be bound according to the binding system of the present invention, comprising a first part intended for the consultation and a second part intended for binding. The first one part includes an information carrier 2, constituted for example a sheet of paper printed with text and / or images. The support information sheet (or sheet of paper) 2 itself has a margin 4 at least on the side of the sheet intended to be connected, of width M, this margin 4 being devoid of information.

The sheet of paper 2 is also covered on its two sides, by a process known as plasticization or encapsulation, of a coating material 5, for example a film 5 of transparent plastic material, usable in such processes. A film of this type generally has a thickness E (Figure 2), for example, less than or equal to about 75 microns. The leaves of cover are made in the same way, a cardboard sheet 2 ' (Figure 3) being covered on both sides with a film 5.

In accordance with the present invention, the dimensions of the film 5 are superior to that of sheet of paper 2 and the cardboard sheet 2 'on the side thereof to be connected, of so as to provide a strip 3 of width D predetermined and devoid of information carrier, this strip 3 forming the second part of the sheet for binding.

Such a binding is obtained, as for example according to the document FR-A-2 464 827 cited above, by pinching the sheets between two reinforcement strips 7, of clamping width d. These bands of reinforcement 7 can cooperate with rods 6 passing through perforations evenly distributed along the edge of the second part of the sheets intended for binding. In the example of embodiment shown in the Figures, the rods 6 are made by screw rods cooperating with nuts, the screw heads and the nuts being located on either side of the reinforcement strips 7. We can use conventional screws, so-called type screws "inviolable", or a non-removable assembly such as rivets.

The sheets of the book, including the two sheets of cover, thus each have a band 3 of width D, of thickness less than that of the part intended for the consultation, and substantially equal to twice that of film of coating, either substantially less than or equal to approximately 150 microns in the example used.

In order to improve the readability of the supports information 2 in the vicinity of this binding, the width D of the strip 3 is greater by a predetermined amount than the width d of the reinforcement strips 7 between which the sheets of the work are tight.

  • K est une constante déterminée par les propriétés mécaniques de la matière d'enrobage 5;
  • a est une constante déterminée par l'épaisseur de la couverture 2' ;
  • d est la largeur de la zone de serrage 1;
  • M est la largeur de la marge du support d'informations 2 (distance entre le bord des informations et le bord de la feuille de papier);
  • More precisely, this width D, representing the margin of the sheet to be bound, that is to say the distance between the edge of the sheet of the book and the edge of the information carrier 2 or 2 ′ is generally determined by the following formula: D ≥ K [d + π 3 (NE + a) - M] in which :
  • K is a constant determined by the mechanical properties of the coating material 5;
  • a is a constant determined by the thickness of the cover 2 ';
  • d is the width of the clamping area 1;
  • M is the width of the margin of the information carrier 2 (distance between the edge of the information and the edge of the sheet of paper);
  • N is the number of sheets making up the printed work, and
  • E is the thickness of the coating material 5.
For flexible plastics used in plasticization or encapsulation processes, the thickness of which is less than or equal to about 75 microns, we can consider that K is very close to 1.

As shown in Figure 7, the sheets to be bound are assembled in a stack, then clamped between two strips of reinforcement 7 over a width d of the strip 3, so that it there remains a strip of width D-d of maximum flexibility between the edge of the strips 7 and the edge of the information carriers 2.

As shown in Figures 3 to 6, this width D-d, where D is determined by the above formula, ensures the good readability of the pages of the book thus bound, and flexibility necessary for viewing the work, even if it includes a large number of leaves.

For works intended for intensive consultation by the public, such as directories or catalogs, we can expect, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, to make the strips reinforcement 7 in the form of profiles, for example at angles. A first wing of the profile is used for tightening the sheets of the structure, a second wing of the profile being fixed using screws 8 on furniture such as a table, counter or desk. These screws may be apparent as in Figure 3, or concealed as in Figure 4, the second wings of the profiles being directed one towards the other. The advantage of such a provision is that it avoids the disappearance of works intended for public consultation and, in more, assign them a fixed location.

In the event that these latter constraints are less imperatives, we may prefer a binding as we have it shown in Figures 5 and 6, where the reinforcing strips 7 are made in one piece, and are joined by a part central 9 thinned and flexible, so that it can be used for connect works of different thicknesses.

In addition, it can be seen that the set of connected sheets according to the invention has a thickness between the reinforcing strips 7 equal to 2 * NE, that is to say twice the number N of sheets multiplied by the thickness E of the coating material 5, less than the thickness of the rest of the structure, in the part intended for consultation, and equal to 2 * NE + e , with e = (N-2) * E '+ 2E'' where E 'is the thickness of an information carrier 2, and where E''is the thickness of a cardboard sheet 2' of cover.

We can then advantageously choose, in particular for the embodiment of Figures 5 and 6, reinforcing strips 7 such as their thickness, added to that of the screw heads 6 and nuts associated with them, ie less than the value e determined above. The works thus linked can then be easily stacked on top of each other, without the strips of reinforcement thwart this stacking.

So we did well in accordance with the present invention a binding system allowing to link in a simple way printed works containing, in particular, a large number of leaves. The sheets thus bound are effectively protected against soiling and other soiling, as well as against the malicious uprooting of the sheets of the book thus bound. Such work is therefore particularly well suited for consultation by a big number of people. In addition, the invention makes it possible to obtain good readability of the sheets in the vicinity of the binding, even in the case of works with a very large number of pages.

On the other hand, provision may be made for the leaves to be secured at the level of the strip 3 of the coating material 5 devoid of support of information by fusion of the coating material 5 or of a material added fuse, for example by laser or other means equivalent.

    Claims (8)

    1. System for binding printed works consisting of sheets each comprising a first portion for reading and a second portion for binding, binding being achieved by clamping all the second sheet portions between two reinforcing strips (7), characterized in that the first portion of each sheet comprises a data medium (2) covered on both its faces with a coating material (5), and in that the coating material (5) forms a strip (3), free from data medium (2), having a thickness (2E) less than that of the first sheet portion and a predetermined clamping width (D) greater than the width (d) of the reinforcing strips (7).
    2. Binding system according to Claim 1, characterized in that the reinforcing strips (7) interact with rods (6) passing through perforations which are regularly distributed along the edge of the second sheet portion.
    3. Binding system according to Claim 2, characterized in that the rods (6) consist of screw rods interacting with nuts, the screw heads and the nuts being located on either side of the reinforcing strips (7).
    4. Binding system according to Claim 3, characterized in that the two reinforcing strips (7) are formed from sections each comprising a first flange for gripping the sheets of the work and a second flange for fastening to an item of furniture.
    5. Binding system according to Claim 3, characterized in that the two reinforcing strips (7) are made in a single piece and are connected by a thinner, flexible central portion (9).
    6. Binding system according to Claim 1, in which the data medium (2) comprises a margin (D), the data medium (2') of the cover sheets being a board sheet (2'), characterized in that the predetermined width (D) of the strip of the coating material (5) is given by the formula: D ≥ K [d + π3 (NE + a) - M] in which:
      K is a constant determined by the mechanical properties of the coating material (5);
      a is a constant determined by the thickness of the cover;
      d is the width of the clamping area (1);
      M is the width of the margin of the data medium;
      N is the number of sheets forming the printed work; and
      E is the thickness of the coating material (5).
    7. Binding system according to Claim 6, characterized in that the thickness (E) of the coating material (5) is less than or equal to 75 microns and in that K is very close to 1.
    8. Binding system according to Claim 1, 6 or 7, characterized in that the sheets are secured at the strip (3) of the coating material (5), free from data medium, by melting the said coating material (5) or another added-on meltable material.
