Description

The present invention refers to a new method of producing drawings in general, which should be observed through a procedure called "virtual approximation".
The method of the present invention is closely related to the "method of producing drawings for virtual depth effect", developed by the same inventor of the present method and to which a Brazilian patent application PI 9403636-5 (with identical publication number) has been filed on September 28, 1994, which is included herein as a reference.
The method of the present invention is more particularly attractive for the observation of entertainment drawings and/or drawings using characters of comics, among others, made on a two-dimensional plane, whereby they are different from three-dimensional (3D) or similar systems existing in the state of the art.
Thus, the present method of producing drawings for observation by virtual approximation, based on a technique that has not been used earlier for producing two-dimensional drawings, by making them in two separate parts which, upon being observed with an "advanced" ocular focus, get together to form the intended drawing.
The method of the present invention consists in making a drawing in two parts, horizontally aligned and separated by a clearance of up to 5 cm, so that these parts can form a perfectly defined drawing or figure if brought together by any means, either imaginarily or physically.
Then the observer should look at said parts as a whole, with the focus of the eyes displaced "backwards" of the surface where they are drawn, as if he wanted to see through this surface.
At this moment, the two parts, which were separated, get virtually together to form the intented drawing.
By the method of the present invention, it is also possible to obtain an animation effect, like in animated cartoons. For this purpose, the observer should hold the surface where the drawing is made by the side edges and then shake it up and down gently.
All these features of the method of the invention are exemplified in the schematic figures attached hereto, which should not be regarded as being limitative of the scope of the method.
Thus, figure 1 shows a mouse made in two parts. Figure 2 shows a character brushing his teeth, the animation effect being extremely interesting in this case. Figure 3 shows a dog, a cat and a monkey with their tails to be united to their respective bodies. Figure 4 shows two characters of comics kissing each other.
As can be seen, these effects can be obtained through illustrations made by hand strokes.
In order to obtain a perfect visualization of the drawings created by the method of the present invention, it is not necessary to use any special means or device such as eyeglasses. It is enough to look at them straight without worrying to focus them accurately.
Although one can observe, through the present method, perfectly defined drawings by bringing together their two parts, people who wear eyeglasses will be able to obtain good observation by Using their own glasses.
A few auxiliary procedures may be used by those who cannot immediately observe the effect described and illustrated herein. For example, one of them is to look "through" the paper, by focusing one's eyes a little behind the illustration. Another is to place the drawing close to the tip of one's nose and then move it away little by little, without worrying about the focus.
In this way, by the method of the present invention, one can print pictures onto any surface, on materials such as paper, plastic, tissue, wood, glass, etc., for books, comics, covers, packages, commercial posters, toys, clothing, as well as on billboards, canvas and films, among others.
The present method of "constructing" a virtual drawing can also be observed in larger illustrations, separated by more than 5 cm, provided that this distance separating the parts is proportional to that which separates the parts of the smaller drawings. In this case, the observer should look at the surface where the drawings are with a "crossed focus", that is to say, by pulling the focus to the front of the surface.

Claims (1)

  1. A method of producing drawings for observation by virtual approximation, characterized in that it consists in making a drawing in two horizontally aligned parts, spaced from each other by a clearance of about 5 cm, said parts being juxtaposed so as to form the desired drawing, when observed with the focus of the eyes displaced "backwards" of the surface on which they are drawn
