Abstract
Assembly for mounting a casing (1) in a wall (20), comprising two substantially U-shaped profiles (2), having legs (9, 10) enclosing the wall and being provided with flanged edge portions (13) that are clamped onto the wall by some clamping brackets (19). A sunk portion (14) having its bottom provided with slots (18) is provided in the one leg (10). A corner cap (3) provided with recessions for receiving the upper transom (4) is mounted on the upper end (49) of the profile (2). Means (42) for supporting the upper transom and the corner cap through the profile cooperate with the slots (18) in the profile (2) in such a way that these parts are pushed from the profile (2) upwards against the ceiling. A lift-off hinge (5) can be fittingly received in a sunk portion (14).
Description
- The invention relates to an assembly for mounting a casing in a wall, said assembly comprising two substantially U-shaped profiles, the legs of which enclosing the wall and being provided with edge portions bent inwardly that can be clamped onto the wall by means of clamping brackets, said profiles being the vertical posts of the casing and being able to cooperate with fitting pieces serving to bridge the distance between the upper end of the profile and a ceiling or a like part of a building when mounting a profile, said fitting pieces being provided with recessions for receiving an upper transom of the casing.
- Such an assembly is known from NL-A-8200144. Here, the fitting piece is slidably received in the profile. On mounting the profile, the fitting piece must be slid upwards by means of the upper transom, until it lies against the ceiling, together with the upper transom. In order to prevent the fitting piece from sliding down into the profile during mounting, a stop can be can be formed at a certain distance from the upper edge of the profile, such as by flanging its edge portion, for example. The clamping brackets by which a profile is clamped on the wall, must prevent the fitting piece from sliding down afterwards.
- Mounting the casing therefore requires not only some skill, but at the upper end of the post a recession remains visible, at the point where the post ends in the fitting piece.
- The applied post will also have to have substantially the desired length, since the post can not be shortened at its upper end. The stop for the fitting piece would then be omitted or no longer be in the correct position. Neither could the fitting piece be easily slid into the profile as a consequence of the burr that can arise on shortening. Shortening the post at the lower end is out of the question since then the lift-off hinges, and thus the door to be suspended from them, will no longer be at the correct height.
- Further, the assembly is not suitable right away for mounting a panel, instead of a glass pane, which must come to lie in one plane with a door to mounted in the casing.
- The object of the invention is to remove these difficulties and this is achieved in that the one leg of each U-profile is provided with a sunk portion protruding inwards and substantially extending parallel to the U-profile body, the bottom of said portion being provided with slots extending in longitudinal direction and being situated at mutually equal distances from each other, the fitting piece being formed by a corner cap to be slid onto the end of the profile, covering said end and being provided with the recessions for receiving the upper transom, means cooperating with the slots in the profile being provided for supporting the upper transom and the corner through the profile, in such a way that these parts can be pushed from the profile upwards against the ceiling.
- The means for supporting the upper transom and the corner cap through the profile can be formed by a substantially-shaped supporting element, its one leg being provided with hooks that can be received in the slots in the profile and the other leg being provided with a threaded hole for a bolt that can be tightened against a part of an upper transom slid in the corner cap in order to press the upper transom and the corner cap against the ceiling at the same time.
- It will be obvious that on tightening the bolt against the upper transom, the U-profile concerned is pressed against the ground at the same time, so that this already yields a more or less stable arrangement of the profile.
- Due to the fact that preceding mouting, the profile need not be provided with means for supporting the corner cap, shortening the profile at its upper end does not cause any difficulties.
- Further, a lift-off hinge will be provided with protruding portions that can be received in the slots of the profile, the thickness of the lift-off hinge being such, that the lift-off hinge fits into the sunk portion of the profile. Owing to the presence of the slots, the lift-off hinges can be positioned easily, the support of the lift-off hinges being improved as well. Further, adjusting or possibly adding a lift-off hinge can be effected easily. Such an addition can be necessary e.g. when applying a fire-retardant door or the like.
- Further, the clamping bracket will consist of two, substantially plate-shaped clamping elements being provided with flanged portions, said first element of which, in mounted condition, extending along the sunk portion of the profile and subsequently past the leg portion connecting to it towards its flanged edge portion in order to have its end edge abutting the flanged edge portion, a part of the second clamping element likewise extending parallel to the sunk portion of the U-profile and ending in a portion being square to it and having its end edge abut the edge portion of the other leg of the profile, the clamping elements being pivotable in relation to each other by means of engaging parts and both clamping elements being provided with lips extending parallel to each other and being square to the sunk portion of the U-profile, one lip being provided with a threaded hole for receiving a bolt that can be tightened against the other lip for pressing together the end edges of the clamping elements abutting the edge portions of the profile.
- The first clamping element can be provided with one or more threaded holes for receiving a bolt extending through a bore in the profile and connecting a lift-off hinge with the clamp.
- According to a preferred embodiment, at the point where in mounted condition it will extend along a wall of the sunk portion of the profile, the first clamping element will be provided with an opening for receiving a lip pushed from the relevant wall of the sunk portion.
- Due to this, it is achieved that the first clamping element of the clamping bracket, and with it its second clamping element as well, can be fixed in the profile before the profile is mounted on the wall. This occurs in that the clamping element is pivoted into the profile until the opening therein snaps over the lip. Thus, the clamping bracket is located on a fixed position in the profile, as a consequence of which mounting the post on the wall is considerably facilitated.
- Thus, it is not necessary to slide the clamp from the one end in the profile to the desired position, as is the case with known assemblies.
- For mounting an upper plate, which will come to lie substantially in the same plane as a door to be mounted in the casing, it can be provided for that one leg of the supporting element, being provided with hooks that can be received in the slots in the profile, or a leg being provided with hooks and standing alone, is provided with a transverse leg being substantially square to it, that can be received in a slot in the side edge of the upper plate, at least one screw being located at the side edges of the upper plate for clamping the upper plate on the transverse leg.
- By this, it is achieved that the upper plate is adjustable in relation to the casing, so that its lower edge can be mounted at the proper distance from the upper edge of the door and in alignment with the longitudinal edges of the door.
- It will be obvious, that the upper edge of the upper plate is received in the U-shaped upper transom. Naturally, said upper transom will be wider than with the known assembly, since there, only a glass pane is mounted, to wit between the profiles. The height of the upper plate can be measured after mounting the casing and if necessary, the upper plate can be sawed-off at the desired height. The less attractive edge that might arise is received in the upper transom.
- For an attractive appearance of the whole, the holes made in the U-profiles, required for tightening the clamping brackets, can be covered by means of L-shaped plastic strips, one leg thereof being receivable in the sunk portion of the U-profile.
- The invention is further explained by way of an embodiment shown in the drawing, in which:
- Fig. 1 shows a view of a mounted k casing with a door and an upper plate fitted in the casing;
- Fig. 2 shows a cross-section, on an enlarged scale, across a vertical post of the casing according to the arrow II - II of Fig. 1, with a clamping bracket mounted to the wall and a lift-off hinge;
- Fig. 3 shows a side view of the clamping bracket of Fig. 1;
- Fig. 4 shows a corner portion of the casing of Fig. 1 on an enlarged scale, with a part of the wall; and
- Fig. 5 shows a side view of the casing portion of Fig. 4 with part of the upper plate mounted thereon.
- The
casing 1 shown in Fig. 1 comprises theposts 2 formed by U-profiles, thecorner caps 3 and the upper transom 4. Thedoor 6 is suspended in the casing by means of lift-offhinges 5, and above the door theupper plate 7 is secured to theposts 2. - As appears from Fig. 2, the U-profile of the
post 2 comprises thebody 8 at one side connecting to theleg 9 and at the other side connecting to theleg 10. Theleg 10 consists of twoparts legs edge portions 13 at their free edges. Thesunk portion 14 being formed by thewalls bottom 17 is situated between theparts slots 18 are made in thebottom 17 at equally spaced-apart positions. Theseslots 18 can have a length of 10 mm and be mounted at said distance from each other, for example. The parts to be mounted in the slots can then be displaced with steps of 20 mm. - As shown in Fig. 2, the
edge portions 13 can be pressed against thewall 20 by means of someclamping brackets 19 being distributed across the length of thepost 2. Only a small part of thewall 20 is illustrated. - Each
clamping bracket 19 consists of twoclamping elements first clamping element 21 comprises aplate part 23 first extending along thewall 16 of thesunk portion 14 and subsequently along theportion 11 of theleg 10 to end in apart 24 bent slightly inwards and abutting theedge portion 13 of theleg 10. Thesecond clamping element 22 comprises the squarely flangedportion 25 having its end edge abutting the edge portion of theleg 9. - As appears from the Figures 2 and 3, the portion of the
plate part 23 extending along thewall 16 is provided withflanged edges 27 in whichrecesses 28 have been made for receivingears 29 being situated at theportion 25 of thesecond clamping element 22. In this way, thesecond clamping element 22 can pivot in relation to thefirst clamping element 21. Thefirst clamping element 21 is provided with alip 30 with a threadedhole 31 therein, in which hole abolt 32 has been screwed that abuts alip 33 of thesecond clamping element 22. By screwing thebolt 32 further into the threadedhole 31, thelip 33 is pushed from thelip 30 so that theparts clamping elements edge portions 13 against thewall 20. - For enabling tightening of the
bolt 32, anopening 34 has been made in theleg portion 12. This opening can be closed off afterwards in that the oneleg 35 of an L-shapedplastic strip 36 is received in thesunk portion 14 of the profile, at least as far as this is possible in connection with the presence of other parts. The other leg can be bent away periodically in order to make the opening 34 accessible. This is shown in Fig. 1 at the position where a portion of thedoor 6 has been cut away. Possibly, thepost 2 can be provided with a series ofopenings 34 so thatclamping brackets 19 can be easily added. - Fig. 2 further shows a lift-off
hinge 5 substantially consisting of aflanged plate 37 in a known way provided with and cooperating with further parts (not further indicated) for rotatably supporting adoor 6. Theplate 37 is fittingly received in thesunk portion 14 of theprofile 2 and hastongues 38 being able to project through someslots 18 of theprofile 2. The lift-off hinge 5 can be secured to the clampingelement 21 of a clampingbracket 19 by means of abolt 39, only the axis of which being indicated in Fig. 2. Thebolt 39 extends through bores not further indicated in the lift-off hinge 5 and thebody 16 of theprofile 2 and is screwed into a threadedhole 39A, see Fig. 3, in the clampingelement 21. In this case too it is possible to make a series of bores in the post for passing thebolt 39 so that a lift-off hinge can be mounted at several locations. Possibly, these openings can be hidden from view by theplastic strip 36. In this way, the faces of the post that are the most salient remain free from screws or the like. - As appears from the Figures 2 and 3, the clamping
element 21 is provided with anopening 40. Thisopening 40 can receive alip 41, see Fig. 2, which has been pushed from thewall 16 of the sunkportion 14 of theprofile 2. Before theprofile 2 is slid onto thewall 20, the clampingbrackets 19 are mounted in the profile. There, the clampingelement 21 with theportion 24 is brought into the corner of theprofile 2 and after that pivoted inwardly into the profile until thelip 41 snaps into theopening 40. The clamping bracket is then retained in theprofile 2. Then, sliding the profile onto the wall together with the clamping brackets and subsequently securing the clamping brackets on the wall will not give any problems. - Figs. 4 and 5 show the
corner cap 3 in particular, in which a portion of the upper transom 4 has been received, and a support of said parts. Oneleg 43 of the substantially -shaped supportingelement 42 is provided withhooks 44 which can be received inslots 18 of theprofile 2. Theleg 45 being square to theleg 43 is provided with a threadedhole 46 for receiving abolt 47 therein. By means of thebolt 47, apart 48 of the upper transom 4 is pressed against the ceiling not shown. Theupper end 49 of theprofile 2 will always be situated within thecorner cap 3. - The supporting
element 42 at the same time serves for securing theupper plate 7. To that end, theleg 43 of theelement 42 is provided with a leg 50 which, as shown in Fig. 5, can be received in aslot 51 in the side edge of theupper plate 7. The upper plate can be clamped on the leg 50 in the desired position by means of ascrew 52 screwed in the upper plate, with only the axis of said screw being indicated. Naturally, the leg 50 can extend across a greater distance or a leg 50 can be mounted separately from the supportingelement 42 by providing the leg with apart 43 having hooks 44. Such a separate part 50 can be mounted at a greater distance beneath the upper edge of the post than when this would be desirable for the support of the upper plat. - It will be obvious, that only one possible embodiment of a casing assembly according to the invention has been illustrated in the drawing and described above and that many changes can be made without leaving the inventive idea.
Claims (8)
- Assembly for mounting a casing (1) in a wall (20), said assembly comprising two substantially U-shaped profiles (2), the legs (9, 10) of which enclosing the wall and being provided with edge portions (13) bent inwardly that can be clamped onto the wall by means of clamping brackets (19), said profiles (2) being the vertical posts of the casing and being able to cooperate with fitting pieces (3) serving to bridge the distance between the upper end (49) of the profile and a ceiling or a like part of a building when mounting a profile, said fitting pieces (3) being provided with recessions for receiving an upper transom (4) of the casing, characterized in that the one leg (10) of each U-profile (2) is provided with a sunk portion (14) protruding inwards and substantially extending parallel to the U-profile body (8), the bottom (17) of said sunk portion (14) being provided with slots (18) extending in longitudinal direction and being situated at mutually equal distances from each other, and that the fitting piece (3) is formed by a corner cap (3) to be slid onto the end (49) of the profile (2), covering said end and being provided with the recessions for receiving the upper transom (4), means (42) cooperating with the slots (18) in the profile (2) being provided for supporting the upper transom and the corner cap (3) through the profile, in such a way that these parts can be pushed from the profile (2) upwards against the ceiling.
- Assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that the means for supporting the upper transom (4) and the corner cap (3) on the profile (2) are formed by a substantially -shaped supporting element (42), its one leg (43) being provided with hooks (44) that can be received in the slots (18) in the profile (2) and the other leg (45) being provided with a threaded hole (44) for a bolt (47) that can be tightened against a part of an upper transom (4) slid in the corner cap (3) in order to press the upper transom (4) and the corner cap (3) against the ceiling at the same time.
- Assembly according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that a lift-off hinge (5) is provided with protruding portions (38) that can be received in the slots (18) of the profile (2), the thickness of the lift-off hinge (5) being such, that the lift-off hinge fits into the sunk portion (14) of the profile (2).
- Assembly according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the clamping bracket (19) consists of two, substantially plate-shaped clamping elements (21, 22) being provided with flanged portions, said first element (21) of which, in mounted condition, extending along the sunk portion (14) of the profile (2) and subsequently past the portion (11) of the leg (10) connecting to it, towards its flanged edge portion (13) in order to have its end edge (24) abutting the flanged edge portion (13), a part (25) of the second clamping element (22) likewise extending parallel to the sunk portion (14) of the U-profile (2) and ending in a portion being square to it having its end edge (26) abut the edge portion (13) of the other leg (9) of the profile (2), the clamping elements (21, 22) being pivotable in relation to each other by means of engaging parts (28, 29) and both clamping elements being provided with lips (30, 33) extending parallel to each other and being square to the sunk portion (14) of the U-profile (2), one lip (30) being provided with a threaded hole (31) for receiving a bolt (32) that can be tightened against the other lip (33) for pressing together the end edges (24, 26) of the clamping elements (21, 22) abutting the edge portions (13) of the profile (2).
- Assembly according to claim 4, characterized in that the first clamping element (21) is provided with one or more threaded holes (39) for receiving a bolt (38) extending through a bore in the profile and connecting a lift-off hinge (5) with the clamp (19).
- Assembly according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that, at the point where in mounted condition it will extend along a wall (16) of the sunk portion (14) of the profile (2), the first clamping element (21) of the clamping bracket (19) is provided with an opening (40) for receiving a lip (41) pushed from the relevant wall (16) of the sunk portion.
- Assembly according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that for mounting an upper plate (7), one leg (43) of the supporting element (42), said leg (43) being provided with hooks (44) that can be received in the slots (18) in the profile (2), or a leg (43) being provided with hooks (44) and standing alone, is provided with a transverse leg (50) being almost square to it, that can be received in a slot (51) in the side edge of the upper plate (7), at least one screw (52) being located at both side edges of the upper plate (7) for clamping the upper plate on the transverse leg (50).
- Assembly according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the holes (34) made in the U-profiles, required for tightening the clamping brackets (19), can be covered by means of L-shaped plastic strips (36), one leg thereof (35) being receivable in the sunk portion (14) of the U-profile (2).
