- a large number of such fine processing machines which are also referred to as honing machines or superfinishing machines, are known. With these machines, for example, the surfaces of crankshaft bearings or journals or the surfaces of camshaft bearings are machined. With machines of this type, the surface quality of the bearing points on the one hand and the desired roundness on the other hand are achieved.
- a finishing stone is pressed onto the surface of the workpiece to be machined either directly or a bowl with the interposition of an abrasive belt, and the workpiece is generally set in rotation. - the shell is so flexible that it can adapt radially to the surface to be machined in a circular geometry.
- the flexible design of the shell now creates the possibility that it can be radially adjusted when the workpiece diameter changes, so that it can rest against the workpiece in a circular geometry over its entire length at any time.
- This has the advantage that the local contact pressure remains constant and that the grinding belt is optimally used.
- the shell adapts permanently to the changing diameter of the workpiece to be machined Workpiece surface. The peaks of ripples can thus be removed and a shape correction can be achieved.

- the shell which is generally made of a rigid, unyielding material, is given a certain flexibility or elasticity.
- the slots run radially or radially to the workpiece, so that the shell can be slightly deformed orthogonally to the rays and the loop diameter can thereby be changed. In this way, the curvature of the shell can be adapted to different machining diameters. The change is in the range of a few ⁇ m.
- the surface of the shell facing away from the workpiece to be machined is provided with at least one open-ended recess running parallel to the axis of rotation, for example a slot.

- the slots can gap be staggered.
- the cross-section of the shell has an essentially lamellar shape, the lamella tips resting on the workpiece.
- the slots can have any cross section, but advantageously have a substantially rectangular cross section.
- the elasticity of the shell is determined by the depth of the slots, the depth of the slots advantageously being equal to or greater than half the thickness of the adaptive shell.
- the slot depth corresponds to approximately 80% of the thickness of the shell.
- the width of the slots and the spacing of the slots can be chosen so that there is still a sufficient contact area of the shell.
- the slot width can be 5% to 40%, in particular 25% of the contact area, depending on the requirement.
- the shell is preferably a pressure element for an abrasive belt coated with an abrasive. With such a bowl, it is ensured that the grinding belt lies against the surface to be machined with the same local contact pressure over the entire length of the bowl, this being independent of the current diameter of the workpiece.
- the shell is a pressure element for an abrasive coated, especially thin abrasive belt. This fact is nevertheless taken into account by the adaptive shell.
- the change in thickness of the tape can be restricted by using thin-film tapes or films. Such tapes, which, for example, have a thickness of 200 ⁇ m in the unused state, have a thickness of approximately 100 ⁇ m in the state of wear.

- This Expansion shoe 23 is provided with a cavity 24, which extends over the entire length of the expansion shoe 23 and is arranged immediately behind the first surface 16.
- a relatively thin wall 25 bears against the workpiece 1.
- the cavity 24 is filled with a pressure medium and sealed. If the two shoes 5 are pressed onto the workpiece 1 in the direction of the arrows 22, the contact pressure is distributed uniformly over the entire surface of the wall 25.
- the pressure medium is, for example, hydraulic oil or detergent medium.
- the grinding belt 12 lies directly against the wall 25 of the expansion shoe 23.
- a flexible processing shell is arranged on the expansion shoe. The advantage is achieved that each individual shell section 20 is pressed onto the grinding belt with the same pressure.
- FIGS. 5 and 6 Conventional hard shells 26 are shown in FIGS. 5 and 6.
- 5 shows the position of the shoe 26 in a greatly exaggerated manner at the start of the machining process.
- the free ends 27 of the hard shell 26 mainly press the grinding belt 12 onto the surface of the workpiece 1, whereas the central region 28 is hardly involved in the material removal. It is easy to see that the hard shell 26 has a ripple of the workpiece 1 follows, since it rests only on the free ends 27 on the workpiece surface. A shape correction cannot be achieved or can only be achieved slightly at this processing stage.
- the central region 28 is mainly in contact with the sanding belt 12 and presses it onto the workpiece 1 with high force, the free ends 27 only slightly pressing the sanding belt 12 onto the workpiece 1 press on.
- a shape correction can also be achieved with such hard shells 26, but this is not as effective as with the flexible processing shell 8 according to the invention.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a microfinishing machine for machining cylindrical inner or outer surfaces of a workpiece, with at least one finishing element resting on the inner or outer surface of the workpiece, with a clamping means to press the finishing element against the surface to be machined, and with means for generating a Relative movement between the workpiece and the finishing element, the finishing element having at least one C-shaped shell which partially encompasses the surface to be machined.
A large number of such fine processing machines, which are also referred to as honing machines or superfinishing machines, are known. With these machines, for example, the surfaces of crankshaft bearings or journals or the surfaces of camshaft bearings are machined. With machines of this type, the surface quality of the bearing points on the one hand and the desired roundness on the other hand are achieved. In the case of fine machining, a finishing stone is pressed onto the surface of the workpiece to be machined either directly or a bowl with the interposition of an abrasive belt, and the workpiece is generally set in rotation. At the same time, the workpiece can perform an axial oscillation movement, so that a so-called cross-cut is created. The oscillation movement can also be carried out by the tool.
It is known to press a textile cutting tape with a relatively soft shell, which consists, for example, of Vulcolan, onto the shaft surface to be machined. With this soft shell, it is possible to press the textile sanding belt over a large area onto the surface to be machined, the diameter of the shaft changing during the machining process playing almost no role. It has been found to be disadvantageous, however, that the textile abrasive belt soaks up in aqueous lubricant emulsions and swells as a result. In addition, no or only slight shape corrections on the shaft are possible with soft shells, since waviness is not completely ground off.
On the other hand, shape corrections can be achieved with hard shells that rest on wavy surfaces on the tips of the shafts and remove them. So the shape of the shell can be transferred to the shaft. However, an incompressible tape is required here (EP-A-161 748). It has turned out to be disadvantageous with these hard shells that, due to their rigidity, they only optimally press the grinding belt onto the shaft surface at a certain diameter. If the shaft diameter is larger, even if only slightly, the hard shell presses the abrasive belt onto the shaft surface essentially over two linear regions, the linear regions being essentially at the ends of the shell seen in the circumferential direction. With a smaller diameter, the hard shell only presses the grinding belt onto the shaft in a small central area. It is then when the diameter of the shaft does not exactly correspond to the diameter of the recess of the shoe ensures that the abrasive belt is pressed onto the shaft over the entire surface. In addition, it has been found that in the case of shafts with too large a diameter, which is always the case with ground and not yet finely machined shafts, the front and rear edges of the hard shoe follow the undulation of the cylinder surface. A form correction is hardly possible here.
If the shaft is not machined with an abrasive belt but with a finishing stone, then the problem of shape correction mentioned above does not arise, since the stone adapts to the radius of the shaft due to permanent wear, which is not the case when using an abrasive belt.
Starting from a flexible shell, which can adapt to a changing diameter, but which does not bring about a shape correction, the object of the invention is to provide a fine processing machine with which an optimal work result can be achieved in superfinishing.
This object is achieved in that the shell is so flexible that it can adapt radially to the surface to be machined in a circular geometry.
The flexible design of the shell now creates the possibility that it can be radially adjusted when the workpiece diameter changes, so that it can rest against the workpiece in a circular geometry over its entire length at any time. This has the advantage that the local contact pressure remains constant and that the grinding belt is optimally used. In this way, the shell adapts permanently to the changing diameter of the workpiece to be machined Workpiece surface. The peaks of ripples can thus be removed and a shape correction can be achieved. Such shells are therefore adaptive.
Die Veränderung liegt dabei im Bereich von einigen µm.In a further development it is provided that the surface of the shell facing the workpiece to be machined has at least one open-edge recess running parallel to the axis of rotation, e.g. is provided with a slot. In this way, the shell, which is generally made of a rigid, unyielding material, is given a certain flexibility or elasticity. The slots run radially or radially to the workpiece, so that the shell can be slightly deformed orthogonally to the rays and the loop diameter can thereby be changed. In this way, the curvature of the shell can be adapted to different machining diameters. The change is in the range of a few µm.
In another embodiment it is provided that the surface of the shell facing away from the workpiece to be machined is provided with at least one open-ended recess running parallel to the axis of rotation, for example a slot. Another embodiment provides that both surfaces are provided with slots. In this way, the shell is highly flexible when the material is very hard and brittle, such as with stone or ceramics. The slots can gap be staggered. The cross-section of the shell has an essentially lamellar shape, the lamella tips resting on the workpiece.
The slots can have any cross section, but advantageously have a substantially rectangular cross section.
The elasticity of the shell is determined by the depth of the slots, the depth of the slots advantageously being equal to or greater than half the thickness of the adaptive shell. In one embodiment, the slot depth corresponds to approximately 80% of the thickness of the shell. The width of the slots and the spacing of the slots can be chosen so that there is still a sufficient contact area of the shell. The slot width can be 5% to 40%, in particular 25% of the contact area, depending on the requirement. The shell is preferably a pressure element for an abrasive belt coated with an abrasive. With such a bowl, it is ensured that the grinding belt lies against the surface to be machined with the same local contact pressure over the entire length of the bowl, this being independent of the current diameter of the workpiece.
Since the thickness or thickness of the strip also changes during machining of the workpiece due to the influence of coolant, lubricant and wear, the shell is a pressure element for an abrasive coated, especially thin abrasive belt. This fact is nevertheless taken into account by the adaptive shell. In addition, the change in thickness of the tape can be restricted by using thin-film tapes or films. Such tapes, which, for example, have a thickness of 200 μm in the unused state, have a thickness of approximately 100 μm in the state of wear.
In another exemplary embodiment, the shell is coated on its surface abutting the workpiece with abrasives, in particular with CBN (cubic boron nitride), diamond, etc. In this exemplary embodiment, the shell itself serves as a removal tool, as a result of which a higher dimensional accuracy is achieved.
In another embodiment, the shell contains bound abrasive e.g. Corundum, SiCa and is designed like a grindstone.
According to a preferred embodiment, the shell is an expansion shoe. The shoe has a cavity for a pressure medium that extends parallel or coaxially to the contact surface. The wall between the cavity and the contact surface is so flexible that it is during the processing of everyone Diameter change can follow, but at the start of machining only the shaft tips of the surface are processed.
Stahl, Gummi, Kunststoff o.dgl.According to a preferred embodiment, the expansion shoe is made of a flexible, fluid-tight material, e.g. Steel, rubber, plastic or the like
The expansion shoe can serve as a support for the lamellar pressure element. In this way, the pressure element is supported over the entire surface and each lamella is optimally adjusted in the radial direction. In another embodiment, the lamellar pressing element can also be supported at points.
The invention also relates to an adaptive finishing element for a precision machining machine, the element having one or more of the above features.
The shell can be in one or more parts, or two shells can be combined with one another.

In Figure 1 this is a
The material removal from the
Die Schalenabschnitte 20 bilden einzelne U-förmige Abschnittskörper, deren benachbarte freie Schenkel miteinander verbunden sind.FIG. 2 shows an enlarged illustration of the
Dabei liegen entsprechende Schlitze 18 bzw.
In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 3, two mutually opposite
In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 4, the
In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 4, the grinding
At the end of the machining process, when the diameter of the
