Definitions

  • the invention relates to a visually identifiable, optical element, in particular a security element for Documents of value, e.g. Banknotes, credit cards, ID cards or Check documents or other items to be secured, comprising a carrier with a particularly diffuse reflective surface and a section on the Metallization applied to the visible surface of the support one with a shiny metallic angle appearing surface.
  • a visually identifiable, optical element in particular a security element for Documents of value, e.g. Banknotes, credit cards, ID cards or Check documents or other items to be secured, comprising a carrier with a particularly diffuse reflective surface and a section on the Metallization applied to the visible surface of the support one with a shiny metallic angle appearing surface.
  • optical elements With known optical elements, the appears Metallization before that formed by the carrier Background for metallization either bright or dark. Such an optical element is, for example, in of WO 93/01057.
  • a carrier with a metallization as visually identifiable optical element for Security or decorative purposes, is based on the physically explicable phenomenon that from a certain direction on a smooth metal surface incident light in the form of reflected light in a particular viewing direction from an observer can be perceived.
  • the light does not fall one direction, but acts it is, for example, diffuse daylight or about light from a diffuse light source, so results depending on the orientation of the metallized area to the angle of incidence of the Light a viewing angle range, in the following as Specified angle range from which a viewer is viewed the metallization as high-gloss and bright metallic perceives since much of the within the Angle of incidence reaching the metallization Light is reflected in this specular angle range.
  • the reflectivity dependent on the viewing angle is thus in this is determined by the angle of incidence of the light Specular angle range particularly large, i.e. a lot of the reaching the unit area of the metallization Radiant power is in this specular angle range reflected.
  • the viewing angle appears to the viewer Metallization, on the other hand, is not shiny, but she conveys a metallic gray and matt color impression. Depending on the light reflectivity of the wearer this matt color impression appears compared to the Background either light or dark.
  • metallization becomes any built, especially very thin layer with a understood shiny metallic surface.
  • optical Elements or security elements will be tried, even that inexperienced layperson authenticity information of the secured To make the object visible and at the same time one Counterfeiting, e.g. in the form of a reproduction, under Consideration of known counterfeiting procedures, in particular optical reproduction processes, impossible to make or at least sufficient to complicate. Such optical elements also become Used for decorative purposes.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object optical element of the type described above create that easily and economically is producible and with which an object to be secured can be protected against counterfeiting even more effectively than this is possible with known security elements.
  • This task is done with an optical element like this described at the outset was solved according to the invention by that the visible surface of the wearer has two support areas different levels, especially diffuse reflectivity for light, with a partial area or several partial areas of each of the carrier areas are metallized is or are, and that the reflectivity of the metallization in viewing directions outside of a Gloss angle range is less than the reflectivity of the Carrier area with the higher reflectivity or this essentially corresponds and is larger than that Reflectivity of the carrier area with the lower Reflectivity or this essentially corresponds.
  • the carrier in at least one area higher Light reflectivity and an area less Light reflectivity is divided and the reflectivities of these support areas and the metallization the above described relationships are sufficient, is by means of optical element conveyable to a viewer, visually perceptible information depending on the Viewing angle more diverse; so appears in one certain viewing direction outside the Gloss angle range a metallized sub-area before formed by the carrier area with higher reflectivity Background dark while another metallized Partial area in front of that of the carrier area with less Reflectivity formed background appears bright, provided the reflectivity of the metallization is smaller in the first case and in the second case is greater than the reflectivity of the each of the beam areas considered.- If the Reflectivity of the metallization in one Viewing direction outside the gloss angle range in essentially the reflectivity of the dark carrier area corresponds, i.e.
  • the background is in a matt, metallic dark gray shade and stands out from the light Background appearing dark. If now the optical Element related to the direction of the incident Light is oriented so that a viewer can see the element or the metallized area in the aforementioned Has the gloss angle area in front of the eyes, the Section of the metallization covering the white area of the Carrier partially covered, no longer dark but brilliantly shiny and brilliantly bright. Also on the section of the carrier applied to the black area Metallization appears shiny metallic bright when he in a viewing direction within the Gloss angle range is considered. Here too changes the visually perceptible information when the orientation of the element or the viewing direction is changed.
  • the optical element according to the invention can be produced in a particularly simple and economical manner, but it can also prove to be advantageous, in particular aesthetic aspects, if the at least two areas on the visible surface of the wearer are designed differently.
  • the area of higher light reflectivity can have a light color and the area of lower reflectivity can have a dark color. It is only necessary to ensure that the relationships given above of the reflectivities of the respective surrounding areas of the carrier or of the metallization are observed.
  • the optical element in such a way that the reflectivity of the metallization essentially corresponds to the diffuse reflectivity of the dark gray background, so that for viewing directions that are outside the gloss angle range, the metallization does not stand out from the dark gray background, but only becomes visible to a viewer when viewed within the gloss angle range.
  • each carrier area can have any shape, also in the form of signs or symbols on the carrier can be applied.
  • the area metallization of the carrier areas can in simplest case by a single contiguous Section of a metal layer of any geometric shape be realized, which is the boundary between light and dark covering area applied to this is. But it is also possible that several sub-areas, especially a large number of sub-areas, the two Carrier areas are metallized; so it can Metallization forms a visually perceptible pattern be applied to the carrier.
  • the pattern can be in shape of regularly arranged subareas geometric shape cover the carrier, being between the background of the metallized sub-areas remains visible. It can prove to be special prove advantageous that the metallization in the form of a visually perceptible halftone dot or Line grid is applied to the carrier.
  • the carrier has several Has areas of the same reflectivity. This can be very can be easily realized, e.g. a square Beam or beam section through an imaginary vertical and a horizontal in four square sections is divided, each of which is on a diagonal lying sections are identical and the Form carrier area of higher or lower reflectivity. It is also understood that other conceivable divisions of the wearer in areas higher and lower Light reflectivity detected by the teaching of the invention are.
  • Optical elements according to the invention can also do more than two carrier areas or groups of carrier areas different reflectivity include. The relationships for the reflectivities of the individual areas and the assigned metallizations are then corresponding to apply.
  • the optical element is at least one of the carrier areas with itself depending on the viewing angle varying, different levels of reflectivity educated. I.e. when changing the viewing direction, for example by swiveling the carrier around one in its plane lying axis, not only does it change the Reflectivity of the metallization, for example through transition into the gloss angle range or by leaving the Gloss angle range, but it also changes the Reflectivity of the surrounding metalization Carrier area.
  • the visible area of the support area can for this with an optically effective thin film coating be coated for certain viewing directions for example a white one and for others Viewing directions, for example, a green appearing color impression conveyed.
  • the visible surface of the support area by a to form a suitable coating such that for Viewing directions outside the gloss angle range the coating appears transparent and thus the Reflectivity of the wearer's field of vision underlying carrier area is determined while in a different viewing angle range, especially in Gloss angle range, the coating a colored, e.g. violet background for the metallization forms.
  • An optical one Element can thus be designed so that not only one Transition from a state with against the background dark metallization in a state with against the background of bright metallization can be achieved, but that at the same time Change in the color impression emanating from the wearer, e.g. from white to purple, is brought about.
  • Coatings of the carrier area are also conceivable in viewing directions outside the specular angle range of the metallization appear transparent and thus the Reflectivity of the wearer and the light / dark or dark / light contrast of the metallization in front of the carrier not or hardly influence, but in Viewing directions within the specular angle range a colored, visually perceptible background for the Form metallization.
  • the optical effectiveness of the carrier coating can be on known physical effects, such as extinction or superposition of light waves, are based on or chemical composition of the used for this Substances.
  • the optical element are a diffraction in the metallization and / or structures causing interference are integrated.
  • diffraction structures structures to be designated in the metallic shiny Area areas can also have spectral color effects in on the structure and frequencies of the incident Light in particular also diffraction angles observed outside the actual gloss angle range will.
  • An optical element designed in this way conveys additional information and is therefore in the Even safer in terms of its counterfeiting.
