- the present invention relates to a sub-mattress with a plurality of elastically flexible slats which are arranged essentially parallel to one another and which run at least in the hip region transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress.
- Known sub-mattresses of this type have a multiplicity of elastically flexible slats which are arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress and are usually mounted in a frame.
- a largely optimal support of the spine in the supine position can be achieved by simulating the double S-shaped body contour.
- the desired straight shape of the spine cannot be completely achieved in a lateral position, since the slats are not flexible enough for this.
- the shoulder area cannot dip as deeply into the side position as would be necessary to ensure a straight spine.
- the upper third of the sub-mattress is designed to be pivotable relative to the remaining part and has elastically flexible slats running in the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress. These slats are therefore provided both in the head area and in the shoulder area. In addition, these slats are connected to each other with a braided band to prevent independent movement of the individual slats, so that when one slat is loaded, the adjacent slats are also moved.
- This known bottom mattress has the disadvantage that the head and shoulder area is not optimally supported. On the one hand, the head area is deeply immersed due to the longitudinal slats provided there. On the other hand, a deep immersion in the shoulder area in the lateral position of a person using the lower mattress is not optimally possible since the longitudinal slats are connected to one another via the braided band.
- the invention has for its object to improve a sub-mattress of the type mentioned so that the head and shoulder area is optimally supported.
- the transverse, elastic, flexible slats in the head and hip area make it possible to form a double S shape in the supine position, as is the case with known mattresses.
- the spring elements in the shoulder area which are successive and essentially independent of one another, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the base mattress, ensure that the body is immersed relatively little in the supine position and thus simulates the double S shape essentially as in known base mattresses with crossbars arranged in this area is, while in the lateral position, because of the then smaller contact surface, a deeper immersion of the shoulder area is made possible.
- This effect results from the fact that a larger number of spring elements is loaded in the supine position, which therefore plunge less than in the lateral position, in which only one or a few spring elements are loaded.
- the aforementioned independent spring elements in a range of approximately 30 to 40 cm.
- the area can also be chosen larger, as long as the replica of the double S shape in the hip area is not impaired by the crossbars in the supine position.
- elastic, flexible slats are provided in the shoulder area as spring elements in the longitudinal direction of the lower mattress.
- the longitudinal arrangement of the slats ensures that a larger number of slats is loaded in the supine position than in the lateral position.
- only one crossbar is loaded in the lateral position, which accordingly plunges deeply and enables a straight shape of the spine.
- the length of the longitudinal slats in the shoulder area can vary depending on requirements, in particular the slats can also be formed in two or more parts, that is, two or more slats are arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction. In this way it is possible that the bottom mattress is bent to raise the head area.
- the longitudinal battens in the shoulder area can preferably be elastically supported, so that advantageously the end areas of the longitudinal battens are also elastically flexible and cooperate in optimally supporting the body contour.
- a plurality of individual spring elements are present in the shoulder area, which are distributed over the shoulder area, in particular arranged in rows and columns.
- Such individual spring elements also ensure a different immersion of the body in the back or side position, since here too several independent spring elements follow one another in the transverse direction.
- such spring elements allow the bottom mattress to bend as desired.
- the spring elements can preferably have a contact surface for an upper mattress.
- the sub-mattress shown in FIG. 1 has a frame 1 in which resiliently flexible slats 2, which are arranged essentially parallel to one another and run transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress, are mounted.
- the flexible slats 2 are also arranged in the foot area 4, in the head area 5 and in the trunk area 6 of the lower mattress.
- the shoulder area 7 of the sub-mattress there are elastically flexible slats 8 which run in the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress and are arranged parallel to one another, two longitudinal slats 8 being arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction, so that the frame 1 can be bent at the point indicated by I.
- the slats 2 are mounted in a known manner in receiving elements 9 of the frame 1 provided for this purpose.
- cross members 10 are arranged in the frame 1, which are either themselves elastically flexible or have an elastically flexible support on which the longitudinal slats 8 are arranged.
- resiliently flexible slats 2 are arranged in the frame 1, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the lower mattress, arranged essentially parallel to one another, namely next to the hip area 3, in the foot area 4, in the head area 5 and in the trunk area 6
- in the shoulder area 7 of the base mattress there are no longitudinal slats 8, but individual spring elements 11 arranged in rows and columns.
- the spring elements 11 each have a support surface 12 for an upper mattress and are mounted on a solid base, not shown here.
- the frame 1 can also be bent at the points marked with I.
- the crossbars 2 are in turn stored in recordings 9 in a known manner.
- the elastic, flexible crossbars 2 in the hip area 3 ensure an optimal formation of the double S shape in the back position.
- the different spring elements 8 and 11 arranged in the shoulder area 7 ensure, in addition to the formation of a double S-shape in the supine position, also a deep immersion in the lateral position and thereby a largely rectilinear shape of the spine. This can be supported in each case in that the longitudinal slats 8 are arranged on an elastic base.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a sub-mattress with a plurality of elastically flexible slats which are arranged essentially parallel to one another and which run at least in the hip region transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress.
Known sub-mattresses of this type have a multiplicity of elastically flexible slats which are arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress and are usually mounted in a frame. With such mattresses, also known as slatted frames, a largely optimal support of the spine in the supine position can be achieved by simulating the double S-shaped body contour. However, the desired straight shape of the spine cannot be completely achieved in a lateral position, since the slats are not flexible enough for this. In particular, the shoulder area cannot dip as deeply into the side position as would be necessary to ensure a straight spine.
In a sub-mattress of the type mentioned at the beginning of DE-U-87 08 282, the upper third of the sub-mattress is designed to be pivotable relative to the remaining part and has elastically flexible slats running in the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress. These slats are therefore provided both in the head area and in the shoulder area. In addition, these slats are connected to each other with a braided band to prevent independent movement of the individual slats, so that when one slat is loaded, the adjacent slats are also moved.
This known bottom mattress has the disadvantage that the head and shoulder area is not optimally supported. On the one hand, the head area is deeply immersed due to the longitudinal slats provided there. On the other hand, a deep immersion in the shoulder area in the lateral position of a person using the lower mattress is not optimally possible since the longitudinal slats are connected to one another via the braided band.
The invention has for its object to improve a sub-mattress of the type mentioned so that the head and shoulder area is optimally supported.
This object is solved by the features of claim 1.
The transverse, elastic, flexible slats in the head and hip area make it possible to form a double S shape in the supine position, as is the case with known mattresses. The spring elements in the shoulder area, which are successive and essentially independent of one another, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the base mattress, ensure that the body is immersed relatively little in the supine position and thus simulates the double S shape essentially as in known base mattresses with crossbars arranged in this area is, while in the lateral position, because of the then smaller contact surface, a deeper immersion of the shoulder area is made possible. This effect results from the fact that a larger number of spring elements is loaded in the supine position, which therefore plunge less than in the lateral position, in which only one or a few spring elements are loaded.
In order to ensure sufficient immersion of the shoulder area in a lateral position, it will generally suffice to provide the aforementioned independent spring elements in a range of approximately 30 to 40 cm. Of course, the area can also be chosen larger, as long as the replica of the double S shape in the hip area is not impaired by the crossbars in the supine position.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, elastic, flexible slats are provided in the shoulder area as spring elements in the longitudinal direction of the lower mattress. The longitudinal arrangement of the slats ensures that a larger number of slats is loaded in the supine position than in the lateral position. In particular, only one crossbar is loaded in the lateral position, which accordingly plunges deeply and enables a straight shape of the spine.
The length of the longitudinal slats in the shoulder area can vary depending on requirements, in particular the slats can also be formed in two or more parts, that is, two or more slats are arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction. In this way it is possible that the bottom mattress is bent to raise the head area.
The longitudinal battens in the shoulder area can preferably be elastically supported, so that advantageously the end areas of the longitudinal battens are also elastically flexible and cooperate in optimally supporting the body contour.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, a plurality of individual spring elements are present in the shoulder area, which are distributed over the shoulder area, in particular arranged in rows and columns. Such individual spring elements also ensure a different immersion of the body in the back or side position, since here too several independent spring elements follow one another in the transverse direction. In addition, such spring elements allow the bottom mattress to bend as desired. The spring elements can preferably have a contact surface for an upper mattress.

The sub-mattress shown in FIG. 1 has a frame 1 in which resiliently flexible slats 2, which are arranged essentially parallel to one another and run transversely to the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress, are mounted. In addition to the hip area 3, the flexible slats 2 are also arranged in the foot area 4, in the head area 5 and in the trunk area 6 of the lower mattress. In contrast, in the shoulder area 7 of the sub-mattress there are elastically flexible slats 8 which run in the longitudinal direction of the sub-mattress and are arranged parallel to one another, two longitudinal slats 8 being arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction, so that the frame 1 can be bent at the point indicated by I.
The slats 2 are mounted in a known manner in receiving elements 9 of the frame 1 provided for this purpose. To support the longitudinal slats 8, cross members 10 are arranged in the frame 1, which are either themselves elastically flexible or have an elastically flexible support on which the longitudinal slats 8 are arranged.
In the variant shown in FIG. 2, resiliently flexible slats 2 are arranged in the frame 1, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the lower mattress, arranged essentially parallel to one another, namely next to the hip area 3, in the foot area 4, in the head area 5 and in the trunk area 6 In contrast to the variant in FIG. 1, in the shoulder area 7 of the base mattress there are no longitudinal slats 8, but individual spring elements 11 arranged in rows and columns. The spring elements 11 each have a support surface 12 for an upper mattress and are mounted on a solid base, not shown here. In the variant of FIG. 2, the frame 1 can also be bent at the points marked with I. The crossbars 2 are in turn stored in recordings 9 in a known manner.
In both variants, the elastic, flexible crossbars 2 in the hip area 3 ensure an optimal formation of the double S shape in the back position. The different spring elements 8 and 11 arranged in the shoulder area 7 ensure, in addition to the formation of a double S-shape in the supine position, also a deep immersion in the lateral position and thereby a largely rectilinear shape of the spine. This can be supported in each case in that the longitudinal slats 8 are arranged on an elastic base.
In all variants according to the invention there is an optimal support of the body contour both in the supine as well as in the lateral position.
