Claims (4)

  1. Motor vehicle starter, of the type having a contactor (10) provided with a movable contact (44) able to be moved in translation by electromagnetic means between an idle position in which the contact (44) is in abutment against a fixed conductive element (16) connected to the electrical earth of the vehicle and towards which it is forced by elastic return means (54), and an active position, in which the movable contact establishes the electrical connection between an input terminal (28) for the current, connected to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery, and a supply terminal (30) of the starter motor, of the type in which means are provided which, when the movable contact (44) is in the idle position, make it possible to establish electrical contact between the supply terminal (30) and the electrical earth of the vehicle by means of the movable contact (44), and of the type in which the elastic return means (54) are arranged between the movable contact (44) and a support block (26) for the terminals (28, 30) produced from insulating material, characterised in that the movable contact (44) and the supply terminal (30) are electrically connected by the said elastic return means (54) produced from conductive material.
  2. Starter according to Claim 1, characterised in that the elastic return means include a helical compression spring (54) made from conductive material in abutment through a first axial end against the movable contact (44) and through its second end against a metallic electrical connection lug (84) connected to the supply terminal (30).
  3. Starter according to Claim 2, characterised in that the contactor has a substantially cylindrical casing (12), closed at one axial end (24) by the support block (26) for the terminals (28, 30), which has an annular skirt (32) for centring and fixing on the casing (12) and a transverse bottom (34), in that each of the terminals (28, 30) has a contact head (36, 38) arranged against the transverse bottom (34) and a connecting stud (40, 42) which emerges axially in the external face of the transverse bottom (34), and in that the return spring (54) is arranged axially in the contactor (10) and in that it is guided at its second axial end in a substantially cylindrical housing (55) provided substantially at the centre of the transverse bottom (34).
  4. Starter according to Claim 3, characterised in that the metallic lug (84) has a first end (90) which is received in the housing (55) and against which the second end of the return spring (54) is in axial abutment, and a second end (86) which is connected to the first by means of an angled connecting strip (88), which has in it a hole for the connecting stud (42) of the supply terminal (30) to pass, and in that the second end (86) is clamped against the contact head (38) of the supply terminal (30) and the internal face of the transverse bottom (34) of the block (26).
